First of All I want to thank everybody in this forum I've learned a LOT from you guys..
I have a question though.. does flashing a SHIPPED ROM (not a DUMPED ROM) after CID-unlocking the device with HardSPL causes the device to brick??
In other words.. does a shipped ROM contain SPL?? cause I read that HardSPL cannot be overwritten so that may brick the device..
Sorry if that question has been answered before.. I tried the WIKI but I couldn't get a definite answer..
Thanks in advance..

All shipped ROMs contain an SPL.
If you have a Hard SPL it will not allow flashing of ROMs with built-in SPLs. That's the point of it being called a HARD SPL.
If you have the USPL instead of Hard SPL it will allow flashing of ROMs with built-in SPLs (but not safe).
If you don't have any USPL/Hard SPL, but just the stock SPL and you use the white screen method instead to flash, it's even less safer AND NOT RECOMMENDED.. because, if you brick your device you won't be able to flash anything from Bootloader since you only have the original SPL.
The white screen method is only used to flash the USPL or Hard SPL. If you have a Hard SPL, the white screen method is the only way to downgrade to another SPL.
You can remove the SPL from the shipped ROM though.. (i.e. use NBHextract.exe to grab all the components then rebuild just the OS.nb with HTC ROM Tool).
For more questions, just search or post in the correct thread.
thnx dsixda.. u r the best
can someone add the bloody response from dsixda to the roll up thread or something?? maybe it will save sometime for the n00bs (and for the rest of us too).
good day sir...
so by using this (i.e. use NBHextract.exe to grab all the components then rebuild just the OS.nb with HTC ROM Tool) is the safest way to downgrade lets say from WM 6.5 to WM 6 ?
I'm downloading this file:
RUU_Elfin_DOPODASIA_WWE_2.20.707.1B_4.1.13.51_03.0 7.90_BLUE_Ship_Reduced.exe
Device: ELF0100*0
CID: DOPOD001
Version: 2.20.707.1B
Language: USA
for my:
Touch version : Elfin
Device ID : ELF010050
CID : DOPOD001
IPL : 3.10.0002
SPL : 3.10.0000
I used NBHextract.exe to extract the files to make ROM my question is should I add the ext_ROM or just the OS coz If I want to revert back to its original state I can flash it with this "original" OS.
-by the way what OS version is this : RUU_Elfin_DOPODASIA_WWE_2.20.707.1B_4.1.13.51_03.0 7.90_BLUE_Ship_Reduced.exe
WM 6.0 or WM 6.1? thanks

Happy that your problem solved. Please see the following page for answer of your question:

Hey guys,
Is it possible to remove Hard-SPL and flash a stock bootloader? I've seen a thread at the HTC Wizard forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=342744) where this is described, but is it also possible for the Polaris? Reason is that I want to return my phone for warranty, and they won't accept it with a non-stock bootloader flashed...
Thanks!
Try this

Don't forget to disable antivirus and maybe firewall (I have problems with COMODO firewall).

Thanks man Now all I have to do is figure out which of the spl's I need for my NLD phone Any idea? Is the WWE supposed to be the same for every language? And is there a known connection between te IMEI nr. and the spl version?
I think that version of SPL corresponds with first numbers of ROM version.
For example, official WM6.1 named RUU_Polaris_HTC_WWE_3.13.405.0_radio_sign_25.85.30.07_1.59.42.15_Ship, and SPL version 3.13.
But I don't know if it's same in non-WWE ROMs.

can i know the SPL version of the ROM before i download it ??!
i have 1.66.0000 SPL version and i want to change to 1.42 or 1.43 version
note: i have ROM version: { 1.66.415.3 (76641) wwe } , ROM date : 01/18/10
you need to find a stock rom that matches your region and provider that is version 1.43 or 1.48.
thank u....
i see but as they say in HTC web .... u can't do downgraded for the ROM !!!
is the rom locked to provider? if the HTC website says no to your serial, then it is locked to provider, so you must get roms for that provider, that is ver 1.43 or 1.48.
thanks,..
Is the SPL the same in all ROMs......??
I mean that if i change my ROM, the SPL will be the same or will change??!
To the OP,
Please ask all your spl and rom related questions in this thread to avoid duplication. I have closed the other thread down.
Thanks
WB
ok , i am still new , and don't know the rules
Thanks EddyOS , but....
How can i flash the stock ROM i started with using the SD card method to get the SPL back on ?!!!

There is a tutorial sticky in the Rom Dev forum on here. Take a careful look at it then proceed once you FULLY UNDERSTAND what you are doing.
Thanks

Hello all,
In my searches i see that before install any cooked ROM you must use Hard SPL, and there is dedicaded ones for especific machine (maybe im wrong).
Is there a Hard SPL for Qtek9000?
Thank you.
No HardSPL is required for the HTC Universal
(it was built before HTC put in the copy-protection that made using a HardSPL necessary)
Thank you very much. I will then procede with new ROM
If any doubt have a read on my signature link
I really hope someone can help me.
I got this phone from a friend of mine, so i wanna pimp it without breaking it.
I am still not totally clear on the Hard-SPL and USPL.
I got the Elf 64/128.
original SPL: : 1.11.0000
I want to flash to Onyx WM 6.5
I read somewhere on this forum that i need to use the USPL first.
I already got the ELF USPL patched 1.19.0000SPL now ready to be installed.
Is this correct?
And can i install an Hard-SPL after that? or isnt that really necessary?
If so, does it matter wich one i use for HARD-SPL?
for example the 2.27.0000 i think it was.
I know, a lot of questions, but it would really help me out here
Thanx in advance
Hi
If you read this carefully http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408637 you have to use first Uspl 1.xx then upgrade to Uspl 2.xx and then Hard Spl from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445666.
Good luck
