hi everyone, i would like to know why the hell everytime i insert my SD card i lose about... 10MB of RAM? and when i remove it, they come back, this is really annoying, and no i don't have anything running @ startup from the storage card.
Thanks in advance everyone
I too have been experiencing a memory leak but didn't know whats causing it. Now that you mentioned this, i pulled out my Mini Sd and Ram to 15mb free, i plug it back in now there is 5.7mb free. I just hard reset this morning
What rom are you using? I'm on Summiter's customized 2.17 w/a2dp
and the apps installed on device mem is as follows:
Opera Browser
SPB Pocket +
Resco Explorer V5.40
Skype
Micro. Voice Command
and a bunch of reg edits.
Now i just got some error with "relprog.exe" and i sent the error report and now its down to 4.9MB free..
---------update-----------
I just soft reset and when it turned on it reported 10mb free, took out mini sd and now its at 18 free....
Nothing strange about that. It simply memory reserved for running the SD. card data, working space etc. It's the same thing on your PC. Though you might not notice it since you probably have about 2GB of RAM like me
like someone said i guess we are still beta testing this windblows mobile 5, and alabij, that makes sense but since i have a nokia 6630 too which is on a symbian platform and that does not happen, i really thought this was very strange
we are beta testing(and paying 500bucks)
for wm5
this things gonna happen
double post...
the problem is i don't remember this happening on my Jam(magician) sp3, sp3i or sp5... started recently(within this month) on my kjam(wizard) and i don't think its normal for a storage card to take 10mb of ram to be accessible. My device is basicly crippled with this BS! i can't run anything with 4mb of ram. I think i'm gonna hard reset next week and run my device barebone(nothing installed) and see if it does it just to prove taht 10mb ram is not needed to read a miniSD card.
I've had a lot of headaches over wm devices but this is by far the worst because for every other problem there is a solution. there may be a solution for this, but so far no ones reported one yet.
yes, no way should it take that much to run a memory card. i just tested mine and it takes less than a third of a megabyte. not sure if this helps, but i had a bad card which often brought my mda to its knees trying to cope with it and all its bad sectors. maybe try formating it or trying another.
so is it really just devilboy1488 and I that are experiencing this?

mine did not it uses 4/5 mb.
cinguler 2.2?
where did you get the Cingular Official AKU 2.2 ROM? I have the Cingular 1.8.11.1 right now, I got my phone off of ebay and it was unlocked. If I install the official Cingular ROM will it relock the phone?
What is a normal memory? I was running close to 20, before but I had to hard reset, and now I am down to 14-15. Is that OK? I am using the 2.17 rom, havent updated to the latest yet. It is so much hassle, to keep upgrading.
I'm running the 2.21 ROM and use a 512Mb miniSD. When I eject it my program RAM drops from 17.74Mb to 17.50Mb. It is consistant with every eject and insert. The storage RAM doesn't change at all.
i think i found the problem. Last night i reflashed my device with the official imate rom and after installing all my regular apps and all the reg edits, i was back to square one. From 21mb free to around 10mb after i insterted my memory card. so i undid a few reg edits such as increase font cache, glyph cache, and the 2 enhanced perfomance reg edits which increase storage manager cache sizes. So basicly all the cache increase reg edits were causing this, or so i noticed from my little test. Now i've got 21.95 free without card and 19.65 free with the card in which is a lot better than before
Hi. I've had my Cingular 8525 since mid December or so, but I haven't really done much as far as customizing it or adding apps. I added PocketPuTTY and ended with that. I just bought a 1GB micro SD card, so I'm more comfortable loading things up.
First, though.. I love the look of the default green HTC theme - I'd searched for this and how to load it before, but I didn't find it for the TyTN... I think I found it for the wizard. Does anyone have a copy of this that they can post? Also, I'll have no idea how to install this... any links that would help, or posted guides, would be great!
Second, I've had the 1GB SD card for a little over a week now; I bought a 1GB card instead of a 2GB card as I heard the Hermes doesn't work very well with a 2GB card - that it slows considerably. I've noticed since adding the 1GB card that my 8525 slows down to a point where I have to reset it; I never noticed this before. Any ideas? I haven't been running more programs, and I've only 56MB of storage used on it for mp3s/pictures.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
Sorry to bump, but this question should probably go here also:
I've read a tad about loading other ROMs, and it seems like the South African ROM on this board is pretty popular. I can find threads as far as how to install it, I think, but what benefits does it provide?
Thanks.
The theme should work on the Tytn as well as the Wizard. You can download a HTC green look alike theme from the MS Windows mobile web site.
The green theme may be on your device. When you select Start-Settings-today is there a Windows green theme there? My 8525 had them on there..
As for the SD card. Yes it is a hit or miss issue with them. You sort of need the darn thing for storage but they will cause the device to hiccup... When that happens I usually just pop out the card and pop it back in and it seems to like it better.
Just don't install apps to the card that run in the background and try to write or will force a write to the card on wake up. For me it weather radar, I used to store it on the card and that caused the thing to freeze up like crazy, moved it to main storage and its is better.
As for ROMs I would stick with the one you have now from Cingular. In order to get that ROM on your device you have to downgrade the bootloader to 1.04 then flash the ROM. If mess up the bootloader your phone is dead or bricked as folks here will call it. There is not way to recover. So there is an element of danger downgrading the bootloader. There has not been a good way posted yet to downgrade or to change a ROM with the 1.06 bootloader on the 8525. So I am waiting on that to happen before I take the plunge..
Remember to check the wiki for Hermes folks - link at top of page.
The Green theme is on this page I think:

Simply flash your 8525 with the 1.30 Cingular ROM which has 1.04 bootloader...It's on the wiki and FTP site.

also have a noobie hermes question..
i currently have the 8125 and was thinking of getting the 8525 in about a month..
anyone else upgraded from the 8125? is it worth it?
i fiured the extra cpu power would allow much more programs to run better?
and will the same programs i use on 8125 work on 8525?
thanks
I just thought I'd give a quick update: I took the dive this morning and am now running the South African ROM. It was much easier than I thought, but also much more time consuming (waiting for things to complete).
Everything seems to be great so far, but I just now noticed that I can't get onto the internet. I guess I'll play with that later.
I think the most immediately exciting thing for me was seeing the default HTC look when I loaded the ROM. Thank god, no more of that ugly Cingular stuff! It does seem a bit snappier also, but I haven't gotten online to load many things yet.
@HLSniper
Look forward to hearing your findings on the ROM...expecting my 8525 this week and looking for the most current stable and efficient/fast ROM. Thanks for your time.
Regards.......
P.S. would you mind posting the ROM version info so I can find it easier...I would like to try it out as well, thanks again.

Sure; I found the ROM in this thread. Made my first few calls with it loaded since my last post, and I can honestly say that call quality has improved; maybe I'm just having a lucky day with service, but it is definately better today (with the new ROM) than yesterday. I can't speak for stability yet, but it's definately faster than the default that shipped with my 8525.
I'm still trying to figure out the internet issue, but I'm almost certain it's my own foolishness to blame for that.
edit (addition):
I forgot to mention this: when loading the ROM it gave me the default HTC theme, which I personally prefer. This was meant for a model (like the TyTN) that has a video camera on the front, though; when dialing to make a phone call you see a 'video' button that wasn't there with the default 8525 ROM. I'm not sure yet if this can be removed or not. Personally, I don't care as long as things work... but it may annoy some people.

I made the upgrade from the 8125 to the 8525 and love the new device. The major benefit is 3G speeds where available (about 4 to 5 times faster than Edge). I don't notice that much difference in processor speeds, because I was overclocking my 8125, but the 8525 is very fast. All the same programs I was using on my 8125 work on the 8525 except the overclocking program. The 8525 also has a few other hardware improvements especially the scroll wheel on the side for faster movement on any screen. Especially if you have 3G coverage I would encourage the upgrade...if you don't have 3G coverage I might advise you wait for a little price reduction from Cingular on the device before you change.

thanks for that info....
so there is no way to overclock the 8525?
ims ure the price is still ridiculous on this phone but ill be eligible to upgrade next month so ill see what that offer is they offer..
i might sell my 8125 to make this purchase a little easier
Alright! Just to finish up the thread and avoid scaring new users away from ROM upgrades, the South African ROM is working great for me now. After loading it I had no internet access, but following the setup information in Cingular's support area got me going wonderfully.
All is well, and thank you to everyone who tried to help out!

You need to also remember that the "x" button on pocketpc's just minimizes the app, so even if you think you're not running too many apps, they will still start to stack up. You should get a task manager program that allows you to see what's running and actually close apps. Personally I use Wisbar Lite, but it's not free and there are a few free alternatives out there.
I've the t-mobile wing week less than 3 week and the problem im having alot is the camera memory error. I have a 1gb memory stick and it still keep poppin up can some help me. thank you
What it probably means is that there is not enough RAM for the camera. If you go into settings and then memory you should be able to see how much you have free.
Sounds like someone needs to use the PagePool tutorial
That's a known problem with the Wing. The page pool fix The Dutchman posted about will stop the memory problems.

now i read through various posts from within your threads...and feel a complete novice again ( i wrote the sd-card-flashing wiki entry for artemis)...
- should i stay with the custom 6.1 rom in order to not fight with battery drains - i read plenty custom roms drain battery within a day
- tomtom seems to create a couple of worries, read the "compatible software entry on wiki for touch hd" - but according to some posts this doesnt seem to be fully upto date - does tomtom 7450 run?
any help highly appreciated!

I ran an older version of Tom Tom 7 (might have been 7.2?) and it ran with no issues whatsoever.
For your first question, did you mean should u stay with the stock 6.1 ROM instead of changing to a custom one? If that's the case, then I'd say that new manila is totally worth the ROM swap. and as far as battery drain, I haven't noticed a difference. I think battery drain is more dependent on what radio you're using. I heard the new Radio drains battery faster (but better GPS). I've stayed with stock radio so far, but have changed ROMs several times and have noticed no difference in battery life. For me, under heavy (daily) use, the HD manages a full day. (this includes around 6 hours of music/radio, a couple phone calls and txts, email dling every 30min., facebook status downloading every 2 hours. and some internet.) I'm very content with the battery life.
oh, and WELCOME TO THE BLACKSTONE PORTION OF THE FORUM!

Haha same thing happened to me. After being idle for like 2 years, now i find that things changed alot... there are talking about SPL HSPL USPL and nbh files... But I adore the HD its just everything you need... You will love it.
Thanx for your infos,
basically sums up what i have been collecting browsing through them threads
roms are built on *.nbh, yet i cant find anything on sd-card-flashing - does that mean it doesnt work, flashing from sd?
Greetz
Flashing from SD works fine, there are threads scattered around the forum but nothing on the wiki as yet (?). From what I gather, limitations include people reporting problems flashing from >4GB cards and Transcend cards not working. I have successfully flashed images from a SanDisk 4GB Class 2.
The image file needs to be placed in the root of a blank FAT32 formatted card (I used a blocksize of 32k), with the filename of "BLACIMG.nbh", then perform a hard-reset by powering on the device while holding the Vol Down button.
I use TomTom Ver 7.450 with absolutely no problems on Dutty's V2.6 ROM in landscape mode. However, there is an issue with the latest radio ver 1.13.25.24, which is what I am using. The satellite signal strength bars do not display anymore, but TomTom gets a great, fast fix with this radio ROM. This is apparently due to the fact that the new Radio ROM has opened up more channels for the GPS receiver and the ver of TomTom I am using can't cope with this. It has been reported to work well with later versions of TomTom.
Hope this helps.
battery will be a problem... :-(
Dear friend,
I have the HD since November. I still have not switched to a cooked rom. I am enjoying it as is for now! But as far as battery is concerned I confirm that the battery drains very fast with the official rom. Especially if you use wifi or 3g connection (even in stand by) it drains in about 12hrs! Actually I intended to look in the forum for this ...
Apart from that, TF3D is buggy (especially with the mp3 player). Compared to the iphone it is much slower and less stable. You can expect that since iphone is unix flavor and wm6 is microsoft(!). But it has great many advantages overall making it an excellent choice at least for me.
Enjoy!
GPS navigation
I forgot. I use MN 7.3.1, for Europe I think it is the best...
Welcome too this part of the forum =)
First of all I'd like to reply on the flashing bit.
When I got my HD, the battery drianed within a day, but that was mostly because I played alot with it:
(internet using hdspa, phoning, trying games, programs and etc.)
These days I have Dutty's ROM 2.3Xtreme with the new 1.13.25.24 radio with some special settings in the program "Advanced Configuration".
Settings like "shutdown HDSPA after 1 minute of non-usage".
And "sync mail every 15 minutes between 6AM and 0AM".
Furthermore I keep on using Memmaid 2.2 which is a program that deletes cached files which reduce the usage of your ROM (don't know if it helps but it will make your HD way faster after you used it).
I use Tomtom 7 and it works great!
I think you'll experience the same batterydrains the first few days because you won't be able to lay it down and keep it still.
If you're not happy with the stock ROM, functionalities and so forth, you should reconsider flashing it.
Good luck with it!
grmbl,
that really makes me wonder,
is it worth paying a really good bargain 475 euros,
...and dumping my p3300, which under normal use lasts me 5-7 days, flight-mode overnight, flawlessly running any tomtom version and these days valuing in at about a mere 100 euros...and a machine which is simply an all day device i dont have to worry too much about- and be able to simply use it (accepting a shake and a bump here and there)...thats somehow not far away from why i dumped the iphone....well, lets see when it gets here...
greetz
Using flightmode overnight should increase your batterylife with a few hours.
Max. a half day.
Is there any newbie flashing gudie somewhere, and if i flash it, how do i get back teh original one? Any rom got "flip-it" buildt in? SMS in landscape mode?

All your questions are answered in full glorious details in the ROM section. As for flip it, Dutty's new ROMs use it. Other ROMs have landscape mode enabled as well, although it may be with various other methods.
howdy,
my mind is made up - i am gonna keep the touch hd!
now, before killing my custom firmware, how does dutty compare to miri, rom-wise?
and, havin had that battery drain in many of them cooked roms over at the artemis forums as well, what is the latest OFFICIAL radio rom? is there an extracted download?
in the times when drains occured in the artemis roms, some "researchers" went into testing labs, and found out that all drains resulted from a constant "polling" of the radio for a signal, whereas the original radio version decreased its polling ratio once a signal was found!
this concludes that after flashing a standalone radio rom with an official version, drains faded drastically!
Thanx for your guys help,
greetz
I've been having quite a big problem recently. Something has been sucking internal memory like crazy. I've flashed several ROMs and still have the same problem of the low memory alert.
I flashed another ROM today and had 144MB of internal memory at noon. Now, without downloading any apps or doing anything major, I now have 133MBs for internal storage. I've currently been using a2sd because iGo is a total space hog and its better than the native gps app imho (doesnt seem to lose GPS signal every few minutes)
The other issue I'm having is the GPS. Its pretty much crucial to me right now because I've been going from Thousand Oaks to LA and everywhere in between and have only found two ROMs that I dont have GPS problems with. Those: EE4.0 and Aloysius
However, both of those have been giving me the low memory warning constantly and I cannot recover space no matter what I delete. I tried deleting iGo (a huge app) and it only accounted for a few MB (the full app is over 20)
I'm quite confused and have never had this problem before.
I've searched the web and it seems theres no solution available at the moment and Froyo takes care of it.

Well, about the internal memory storage, it could be your cache. Try downloading an app called CacheMate; I'm not sure about the free version, but the paid version has a 'Power Clear' option that clears ALL the cache on your phone. It usually clears about 8-14MB of cache everyday.
Also, 11MB really isn't really a big deal at all, as it will function just as well with 133MB as it will with 144MB.
