G1 is starting to show it's age and we've had the superior Hero for awhile and now the DROID is out and even better than Hero. The problem is, they are for other carriers.
Tmobil just cam out with the Motorola CLIQ but it doesn't seem to be even as good as the Hero and definitely not as good as the DROID.
Are there any rumors of a worthwhile upgrade coming to Tmobile?
Sony Xperia X10 hopefully.
The Samsung Behold II is coming to T-Mobile, I don't know much about the phone, but that's something you can look into and decide for yourself.

Excuse me but the hero is actually superior to them all I thought I should correct your error mate.the only reason its slow is because HTC is using slow hardware that can't keep up with such elegance and beauty.the droid uses 1.6 while heroes use 1.5 so comparison isn't fair...

I'm only hoping there next contender will also have a 5 row qwerty keyboard, im not much of a onscreen typer and hopefully running snapdragon.

lol, apparently not I hate Sense UI, it's a resource hog that looks pretty but doesn't do anything useful. I'd rather just have a faster phone than that bogged-down UI.
i hope they make an actual G2, like 5 row keyboard 1ghz proc. capacitive touchscreen trackball with light , LED light ambient light sensor ,3-8000MP cam, 512 mb ram
pretty much a G1 with an upgrade =]

Very true. Also I'm really loving what Google did with the new icons in 2.0, much nicer than the HTC ones, so no need for a theme to hide the 1.6 icons that look like they're from the 90's >.<
Check out these pics and post...I know these are all predictions but man they do look nice.

leaked images of tmobiles phone "map" showed motorola sholes and the sholes tablet...
motorola sholes ofcoarse is the droid but gsm, and i am guessing the sholes table is the same as the moto droid, but full touchscreen w/ no keyboard..(no date annouced or leaked)
mytouch le (fender phone) definitely worth it compared to the behold 2... uses the 32a board = 288mb ram, 16gb sd card, and a 3.5mm jack. basically having a hero without sense ui stock...and i am sure the phone can be rooted the same way as the regular mytouch3g...maybe.(date: jan 2010)
i think that HTC should ask us here at XDA what we want, because being power users, i think we will have a better understanding of what we would like to see in a phone and at a decent price
thankfully my work let me exchange my storm for the droid and this phone could have been perfect but instead they decided to give it a **** keyboard. the G1's keyboard feels huge in comparison. luckily the screen is so big that using the OS-keyboard is easier and much preferred. This droid not only looks nice but it makes my G1 feel super slow. I always knew that the g1's screen wasnt as nice as the iphones but it was still a good looking screen compared to most other phones. Well just wait until you see android running on the droids screen and put the g1 beside it. It totally put the g1's screen to shame in not only size but resolution. this thing is so hi-res its sick. All i know is tmobile needs to get something equally as good as the droid by the time my contract is up next october. Oh to answer the OP's question, for the time being the droid is the "next phone". i dont think any of HTC's current phones can touch it.

Not trying to start any fanboy stuff here its just I was dead set for the Hero until I came across some info about the Samsung Galaxy.
For those of you choosing the hero over the galaxy what are you basing that choice on? It seems on first glance that the Galaxy has better spec with regards to the screen - OLED, Storage - 8GB, Battery - 1500....
for me the only pro for the Hero is the Sense UI (which can be ported possibly) and this board. I must admit I missed the board whilst on my Symbian experience over the last year.
I am still leaning towards the Hero (I am not even sure why) but which are you choosing and why?

Hero - Always like HTC devices, they just seem much better in terms of build quality (all bar TP2, had 4 with problems!).
Support on this in invaluable.
Tefflon coating!
I like the chin - don't shoot me down, I really do like it for some reason.
Haven't seen the spec on the Samsung, but the last few Samsung phones I've owned, I gave them to my mum!

Even though the Samsung Galaxy has better specs, I prefare the Hero because of the UI, the design of the actual phone, and the fact that its made by HTC, I'm not a fanboy but because its made by HTC it will be supported by this website and the Galaxy wont be.
The Galaxy has only 128Mb ram where the hero has 288mb. nuff said.

Hmm it was confirmed on some italian sites that the galaxy has 192mb usable by apps. Which probably means its has the same or very similar total ram.

yep i read the same. So apart from the board here, and sense UI there really isnt much in favour of the Hero?
For me the sammy wins on;

screen (AMOLED)
storage (8GB Internal)
battery
still havent seen pricing for the galaxy yet though...

very sad I can't say my ideas here
COZ DEFINITELY I'M HTC FANBOY
After working with the EzInput 2 onscreen-keyboard on my little Diamond, the reason for me for going with the Hero is the keyboard-software. The rest I don't really care about.
The extra widgets and 7 homescreens and such is nice, but not really 'needed'. But the onscreen-keyboard is what you use more and more and more... being stuck with a commercial application or the stock Cupcake keyboard would be a deal-breaker for me. The HTC keyboard is far superior to most out there. And from what I see they made some handy changes to this android version (picking the correct word from 7 suggestions is nice and fullscreen, finger friendly for example) and the color coding in the suggestions.
For me going from 2.6" (Diamond) to 3.2" (Hero) will be heaven when typing .
That and the posibility to use Compact Qwerty and even the old phonepad-block (1 through 0 numbers) with T9 makes it possible live without a phsyical keyboard.

true, very true. Was thinking about going for an Xperia or Blackstone because they are relatively cheap now.
But if I have a new phone I want a new experience. After years of WinMo phones, and after a year of cooking and tweaking for the Diamond... getting a TouchHD would seem like I would not get anything new. It would feel like 'a bigger diamond' within a day I guess...
.. must be my gadget-vibe, I don't know. But I've set my sights on Android + HTC Tweaks and I'm curious how it will work out

hero: transreflective screen (amoled SUCKS outdoors)
I still don't know that the Sense UI is going to be a bonus for me... I'll have to look more into that feature. The main reason I'm leaning towards the Hero is time frame combined with a potential discount: the Hero is already out, plus the rumors say it will be on the AT&T network which means I may get a discount on the phone since I have an account with them.
If the two phones came out around the same time and neither of them were on AT&T, then I would be leaning towards the Galaxy.

Agree with that. AMOLED displays in the sun are practically useless. Inside they are gorgeous.
Spent some time in Las Vegas on business and my Nokia N85 was almost impossible to use when standing outside. My N82 (always take a spare in case of theft) was more than useable.
Keyboard on Hero is fantastic as said above... the two things you're going to be using most are the screen and keyboard.

EDIT: Just checked ebay and looks like the majority of listings now say shipping in August...
dang, 02 is giving hero away for FREE!!!!!!!! wtf, now i got to spend $700 on this or the galaxy. right now I want hero pretty bad, especially the graphite one but it doesn't have tmo 3g bands for the us. if the galaxy does which it seem so so far i will buy that instead.
The only difference I see is the .3 size increase in the screen. Anything else different? Thanks
Well apparently the N1 now officially has 2.2. I'd say that's a pretty big feature.
Yea, but the Galaxy S will also have 2.2 ... Its already been rooted by Paul...
The Galaxy has a Hummingbird GPU, which is more powerful than the Adreno the Nexus has. Actually I believe it is the best out of all the Android devices.

i think the jump from the N1 to the Galaxy is nice but more so for someone who wants to have the next best thing, because I'm certainly happy with my N1 with no hurry to purchase a new phone. My brother on the other hand has a blackberry and would like to try something else so i feel its a bigger jump for him then someone with current specs on a phone.
The Galaxy S does not have LED Flash.
Front facing camera
Lack of Camera Flash
Screen if closer to glass
Better GPU
It also has a better screen .... super amoled and real multitouch (like that matters since I don't play games on My phone
How about....it's not running stock Android, so it will take forever to get updates... If it gets updates at all. This is Samsung we're talking about. Anyone remember that Behold II? It's finally getting upgraded... to 1.6. I'd also want to know the details on whether any of the Google services have been replaced by Yahoo, as I had read a couple of months back on Samsung phones.

Well there is only 1 good version (pro), the other 4 are gimped beyond belief.
1. Galaxy has significantly better media playback. (mkv, divx, xvid ect)
2. Twice as fast 3D performance. (2x FPS in games)
3. Better and bigger screen. (Super Amoled + bigger ! )
4. Screen has flawless multi touch capability ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVlsRCMltDg
Why in the hell would T-Mo not attempt to push a technologically superior device? I just don't get it....Verizon, Sprint and the DeathStar(at&t) all entice customers with very good devices.... After reading the Tmo Vibrant specs I have no motivation to ditch my Nexus One at all. Actually I'm more inclined to get a HD2 and hack Froyo onto it.

Yeah the screen and gpu are the biggies in my book. Of course, nexus will be made with a tft LCD (I'm sure I butchered itsbreal make) instead of ****ty amoled soon so maybe the gpu will end up being the main attraction. Whatever I just hope there's a nexus two planned for the future

Uh.. Seriously? Gimped? I too have no idea why they'd not include a FFcamera but being the bad ass phone it is spec wise, could no way in any shape or form consider it gimped lol... Jesus christ. Hey all !
i was wondering about selling my legend and buy the htc desire ?
but i thought the htc desire looked pretty big.. ?
but is this a good replacement ?
The desire has better specs but a little lower build quality.
I'd say over all its a great replacement though
On a side note, how much would you be selling your legend for? I'm looking to grab one if its the canadian version
I'm from Faroe Islands (check google or something if you want to know more about it)

The best comparison I could find is here http://www.omio.com/phones/compare/htc_desire+htc_legend
It seems the desire is just a few millimeters bigger length and width wise, so it shouldn't be a problem at all.
How much are you looking at selling it for? As for the islands your at, I'm really not sure how it would work anyways, international mail or something maybe?

I know this isn't what you asked but...
Have you considered the Nexus One rather than the desire? Same spec but the N1 runs froyo...
On paper the desire/N1 is faster, in reality the gap, as far as I can tell in my research is non existent (although I have heard claims that the legend is much faster due to lower res screen). The legend has less memory however and therefore could run fewer apps at the same time? This has never been a problem for me personally.
Build quality of course is a big change, the N1/Desire feel quite sturdy but the Legend is made of frikkin metal.

just an update, legend should get froyo
BUT
flash 10.1 most likely wont run due to the phones processor, it is not capable of running it, as of now anyways...
however, i'm sure after some time flash may get officially released or the modding community may try and do something about it but thats not something to rely on
desire is actually a reallllly good phone, i say sell the legend and get it!
The legend is hot to look at but like most phones it will get damaged. I had an HTC Hero and using a Desire is great for the bug screen and browsing. That extra half inch has made a good mobile experience great! Gaming wise you probably won't notice a big deal due to the higher resolution. Neocore demo actually was on par and sometimes better than my Desire. The only thing would be the number of apps you could have running at once. Build wise I think the Desire is great, mine is anyway though being machine out of a single block of aluminium certainly gives it a feeling of solidity.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i actually just found out that you can use the htc evo flash 10.1 on the legend running froyo with a small work around and it apparently works near flawlessly so it should take much for a full unhacked version to become released. if not the hack version will do just fine
I have one question about the Nexus One..
if i want trackball light on it, do i need to take in half, and install a LED to it, or is this already done ? so i only need boot the phone to get custom LEDs ?

I wouldn't get it but I also wouldn't call the CPU/GPU outdated. It's practically a given that it's just a rebranded Desire Z which is part of HTC's latest line of phones -- at least for now.

Hmm, well the latest specs that I read (about a week ago) said that it would have an 800mhz processor - endgadget says 5mp camera, no front-facing, ect. Not sure the front facing camera has every been used on my phone, but it's still cool to have, I guess; I was referring more to the outdate/price of it in my mind - Radio Shack said $150, so to me, it's outdated/slower/smaller than the EVO and costs more.

How is it slower? I agree that it's not a overall very appealing phone but how is it faster? It has a better CPU but more importantly it has a much better GPU.
This is the 2nd gen snapdragon and it overclocks like a motha! I been hearing 1.7 Ghz OC stable on G2's. I'm just turned off by the small screen and the keyboard. It's a shame really. I just hope the next evo has the looks of the Desire HD, but with better cpu/gpu.

I am all over this if those specs are correct. I have been looking for a slide out keyboard smartphone running android. I know there is the Epic, but Samsung phones have a history of no support/sucking.
Currently got an Touch Pro 2, and just waiting for the perfect phone. The front facing camera is the make or break for me. I would like to have that, and if this phone ends up not having it then I won't get it. All the pictures seem to show a camera on the front by the top speaker bar, so I am hoping all the rumors that there is no FFC are wrong.

What's funny is the Evo is actually about to be outdated tech. Hell, the CPU/GPU is the next generation of Snapdragon, so it is actually moving forward.
My girlfriend has an Evo, and i love it, but i like how this phone has the same resolution in a smaller screen.
I'm definitely getting one on launch day.
The internals are better in the Evo shift than the Evo.
Clock speed is irrelevant, much like clock speed on processors.
Don't even try to suggest that the i5s at 2.5 ghz are slower than the Pentium 4 3.0ghz.
My comment to the Evo shift is the fact that, while it is better than the Evo, it is 2010 technology.
By summer we are going to have 2011 technology.
Why would I not just wait 3 - 5 months and pay the same amount for much better?
I find it odd not one person has mentioned the landscape sense. That's usually a hit
I'm still unsure about this device. I love my EVO, and I love the G2, but the screen size on the Shift is just too small for me. Not to mention, the buttons at the bottom look laughably too big on the poor thing.
I guess it would be pretty nice to have the new CPU/GPU butttt I'm not sure. I'm pretty picky about keyboards so maybe I will know once I've played with one in person.

I would be surprised if there wasn't an Evo 2 to with dual-core processor released in the summer.
Good point; it doesn't have the new Sense either, which sucks!

Well the phone is smaller but that D-pad does not make any sense... why include such thing on a device with a touchscreen. Even better would be to remove the D-pad to make space for some additional keys OR expand the current keys.
It looks 'toy-like' similar to the Epic.
I think I will wait for another device. Staying with the EVO until something else pops up.

Clock speed is irrelevant, much like clock speed on processors.
Don't even try to suggest that the i5s at 2.5 ghz are slower than the Pentium 4 3.0ghz.

You hit the nail on the head. Right on all counts.
Second Gen Snapdragon kills it, but I'm waiting for the dual cores!!!

that is a great arguement/point..
but it has a great flaw as well!
wait 3-5 months... and reuse
wash, rinse, and repeat...

that is exactly what i was gonna say, if it had the new sense then i would've thought about it. Plus it wont work with a powermat, i love my evo for that

My wife is completely gaga over this phone and being someone who got suckered by Samsung and my local sprint reps (When I was torn between the epic and the evo at epic launch, they all said 'hands down its the epic it'll have 2.2 in a few weeks'...heh) into buying a phone with a keyboard I wish I had gone the other way. Personally, I hate the blue tint of the phone, I despise the trackpad (who uses a trackpad anymore?), I could care less about the lack of FFC or the 5mp vs 8mp but in all honesty there needed to be a smaller alternative for people wanting high-end hardware on sprint without having to have a massive screen. Part of the reason my better half loves this phone is that she rarely carries a purse and if she got an Epic or an Evo she could not carry her phone in her pocket as she is used to and would then have to carry a bag for it.
Sprint just posted the fact sheet but no availability date.
http://newsroom.sprint.com/news/htc-evo-shift-4g-fact-sheet.htm
the fact sheet says it has the newest version of HTC Sense. There's no reason they wouldn't include it.
its damn slower than my htc evo shift...seriously not like in opening app and other stuff like launcher but in typing and touching screen have to press lil bit twice almost most of the time..charging slower than my htc shift...and it eats up all the ram everytime i open and see in task killer only shows 60m..where in shift it was always around 80 to 90m remaining same apps and everything infact not running any htc apps..and no notification lights no for charging and non for text or anything
i would suggest you guys to stick with shift and just dont worry too much about updates..wish htc had made this one too just like nexus one
just my opinion
Got mine a few days ago and is hella nicer than the shift (course rooted) think maybe you got a bad device

LMAO!!..
When I leave this phone, it will be multi core(so not a nexus s), it will not have a locked/cryptographic signed loader(so not an evo 3d), and it will preferably be a four inch or smaller screen (I may have to concede on this one though the way they are going)

Wouldn't get my hopes up for Honeycomb, Google pretty much stated HC is tablet only and Ice Cream Sandwich is going to replace both Honeycomb & Gingerbread by the end of the year. So more then likely we'll get ICS long before we see HC for phones.

I'm in the same boat as you...except for screen size. No way I'm "upgrading" to anything but a dual core at this point. --------> Photon 4G or Sunfire or whatever it will be called

I'm guessing you had a Moment? The Transform is actually pretty nice for a low to mid level device.
I would also have to agree that when I switch from my shift a dual core is a must. As far as the Nexus S I wasn't impressed by it's design nor its specs. No expandable memory being on of the biggies. And no improvement in processor versus previous galaxy s phones, not 100% sure. I can't see what this device has that makes it superior to others, rather than just being vanilla android.
I'm not happy with Samsung's plasticy feel of their devices either. Makes them feel cheap. I do like the AMOLED screens but not the dotted effect that some (including me) can see.
However, I am seriously giving the Galaxy S II phones consideration when choosing my next device. Specs wise seems rather nice. Has dual core processor, nice camera, and expandable memory. And the Super Amoled Plus screen seems to correct the dotted effect of the previous Amoled screens as the rgb colors are evenly presented.

You my friend need to root your phone. Secondly, the nexus S 4G has not been out very long, and samsung is typically slow on the updates. I do not know if you ever had an EVO 4G (not shift), but when i originally had mine, it was absolutly horrible in terms of responsiveness and battery life (battery still sucks). This was 3 months after its release.
Why is this in the shift forum? Not to be an ass but I don't think this is necessary or productive. We need an offtopic forum lol

This is just a guess, but I think ALOT when on behind the scenes on the Nexus that we don't know about. I mean how would google allow their flagship phone to come out with technology that is outdated by almost a year? I think this phone was in development, and got held up, and by the time assembly on it started it was too late to scrap it. That's why there is another rumored Nexus that should be ready come Holiday season. Have to make up for your mistake somehow.

Yea I agree with you. I didn't think Google would have purposefully put out a technologically inferior flagship device unless they had issues while developing.
If other galaxy s phones are any indication, probably took that long to get gps working.
