So there are two different Magic boards :
- PVT 32A (HTC branded?)
- PVT 32B (Vodafone branded?)
Could someone explain what the difference between the two boards are?
What does the CPLD-10, CPLD-11 and CPLD-12 in the SPL mean?
Also, I noticed that a rooted recovery of the PVT 32A will not work on the PVT 32B and the other way around, why exactly is this?
My vodafone branded magic is PVT 32B and CPLD-10 ...

Different memory chip.
I read that ROM's for 32A are not compatible with 32B and the other way around... is this true? Is rooting for A and B different as well?
Cheers

Oops, corrected it , still no idea what the CPLD means, maybe it's related to the bootloader and not the hardware.

The rooting method is the same, but you will need a different rooted recovery for PVT 32A and PVT 32B.
Reason :
PVT 32A : 288MB RAM / Qualcomm MSM7200a
PVT 32B : 192MB RAM / Qualcomm MSM7201a
I guess that because of the different Qualcomm chip (and board) they will need different drivers so also stuff inside the kernel.
I noticed that I could run a PVT 32B ROM (like the vodafone ROM or ION ROM) on a PVT 32A, but this gives problems with the camera and wifi, so probably a change is needed in the kernel to support these things. Running a PVT 32A ROM on a PVT 32B doesn't seem to work at all unless you change things in the kernel.
Thanks for clarifying that! You seem to be in the know .
By the way, B boards consume less power due to a better connection somewhere.
I've just one small off-topic question: will I keep my Dutch language support when I root with haykoru's stuff in the tutorial above?
my htc magic is PVT 32E from vodafone uk
can i root, and how to

Am I in the UK? No... I don't have the ROM, post in that thread instead.

Actually B boards consume less power cause it's made with 65nm process instead of 90nm of the A version...
I imagine the Google ION is a PVT 32B since it has a Vodafone Shortcut on the home screen. Any clarification?

boot your phone with BACK + POWER. it will say.
The Ion shouldn't have a Vodafone shortcut but yes it has the PVT 32B board (192MB RAM).
But I have check my goolge ion, I have 32b board with 295mb internal though...

I think you guys might be confusing the internal storage memory with RAM
I don't believe any european Magics have more then 192mb RAM
now im confused:
i did a adb shell df and this came out
C:\data\Android\android-sdk-windows-1.5_r2\tools>adb shell df
/dev: 49460K total, 0K used, 49460K available (block size 4096)
/sqlite_stmt_journals: 4096K total, 0K used, 4096K available (block size 4096)
/system: 92160K total, 72492K used, 19668K available (block size 4096)
/data: 302848K total, 8004K used, 294844K available (block size 4096)
/cache: 81920K total, 1160K used, 80760K available (block size 4096)
/sdcard: 7821312K total, 604672K used, 7216640K available (block size 32768)
i can't see 192 mb anywhere in there.
but i do see the 288 one.

you are seeing storage flash, not static RAM, read this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/209244426/HTC_20Sapphire_20Service_20Manual.pdf
page 5 is summary
nice cpu/chipset, has Java acceleration, as well as video:
http://www.qctconnect.com/products/msm_7201.html
Check your memory by doing "cat /proc/meminfo" :
(The basebandchip already takes 64MB)
PVT 32A : 288MB RAM / Qualcomm MSM7200a :
cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 197144 kB
MemFree: 65708 kB
PVT 32B : 192MB RAM / Qualcomm MSM7201a :
cat /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 98920 kB
MemFree: 2388 kB
You can clearly see that there's huge difference in free RAM.
If you're having a MemTotal below 100MB you're probably using a PVT 32B.
Hi,
I have bought a HTC dream yesterday. When I press vol. down + power keys, it shows -
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.33.0008 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO-3.22.20.17
Apr 29 2009,2:28:53
But "Android System info" , "Free memory", "Systray Monitor" software show that the RAM is 192MB.
In the "About phone" I can see-
Baseband version- 62.525.20.18H_3.22.20.17
Build number - sapphire-user 1.6 DRC83 14721 ota-rel-keys
Which one is real? How to check the real RAM ?
Since I paid for 288MB RAM version and I want to have 288MB RAM version, so it is very important for me to know ASAP. So that I can claim and change/get refund.
Please help me on this.
From what I heard its true that only 192 RAM is useable of the 280...
The 32b also report to have 192 RAM on the paper, but about 92 is useable only...
So yeah you have a real 32a...
So I picked up a MyTouch from eBay a few weeks ago and have been toying with Rooting, Roms, etc. I noticed that when I install CM6 (Android 2.2) roms the phone will constantly reboot. I have been installing ROMs for the 32B original MyTouch board b/c when I pull up fastboot I get the information below
Device : SAPPHIRE PVT 32B ENG S-OFF H
HBOOT-1.33.2005 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
Radio : 2.22.19.26I
The really strange thing is that the available phone storage is 274MB. Is it possible that the person who sold it to me had put a 32A board (from a MyTouch 1.2) in a original MyTouch body? It still would not explain why fastboot shows a 32B board. I am really confused. How can a 32B board have that much available RAM???
No, that's correct. Both phones have 512mb of ROM for storage. Half of that holds the OS, the rest for your apps. Where they differ is in RAM, this is where the OS and running apps are loaded into to run. The 32B(original myTouch) has 192 mb while the 32A(myTouch 1.2) has 288 mb.
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G using XDA App
Well i can confirm that you have the right radio and spl.
The H or G in the first line er known to changed without cause if you play with spl/radio long enough :0)
Never happened to me though :0)
Hello,
I check all information shows that MYTG3g 1.2 has 288 ram. But my phone shows only 192 ram. I have read the thread "MT3G 1.2 w/ 192 MB Ram?".
The internal storage shows only 256mb instead of 512mb.
However, I am wondering is there a tool to show the exact total ram of the phone? Why it only shows 192 ram?
I know my question is quite silly. I really appreciate any of your information.
Thank you.
My phone information is:

Ok So I have a Mytouch 1.2 and a Fender and they have been rooted with the goldcard style.
I'm ready to change firmware but dont know which to get It showed I was 32b before the root now its 32A
Do I use a firmware for the original 32B from before root or use 32A for after root.

You have a 32B
So I should use 32B firmware even after the root changed me to 32A, Correct?

You never had a 32A and never will. Yes, 32B.
Let me straighten this out.
The phone is a 32A/32B hybrid. It's a 32B phone with twice the memory as normal 32B devices (equally as much as 32A) so it uses a 32A memory map. Which is why it says 32A. HOWEVER, it requires 32B radios, roms and kernels. Fair warning, unless you design a rom specifically for your device (and the only rom out there is stock) you will NEVER take advantage of that extra ram that comes with the phone because of the different memory map. It's gone, wasted. Because the kernel's that you use are built for devices that have less memory. Kinda like running Windows 7 x86 with 16gb of ram. It runs no different than if you had 4gb of ram. (Poor example but best I could think of.) So you will want to treat it as a 32B otherwise you can break your phone. I would dare to say that at least half of the problems in this forum for people with this device are because they break their phones trying to treat it as a 32A. Don't be one of them!
Thank you i am now informed. I am used to G1's i know there isnt alot different but rather be safe then sorry. Thanks again.

Sure not a problem. Refer to the G1 section for the majority of ROMs to use on your device.
