Hey guys,
i've tried a few rom's on my aussie device yet the 850mhz band is locked out/not showing...900mhz is though. Is anybody able to cook me a radio/rom with this option?? Or is there a .cab file i can install to fix this??
Thanks!
I know under 6.1 what was addvised was a reg edit to display an option for the 850 frequency i tried it and yes it did display but i never tested to see if i got coverage with it i assum the same would appy i may have the reg key extracted of a telstra hd handset around i will look again i have not tried this on a 6.5 rom and even if it does display have not tested for next g coverage
let me know if you want me to track it down

Hey that would be amazing if you could find it as I'm on the next g network and been looking for a while!
worked out how to up load file here i had to zip it as .reg files are vaild for here let me know how you go
thanks for that! Now how do i install it? It's asking me to start a program on the handset when i try to...any tips? I'm coming up blank with the search...
sorry guys, i un did the hidden folder thing as windows wasn't showing..now..where do i put it in the device's windows directory??
If you put the phone in "auto", it will pick the 850MHz band, no matter what the registry (or the scroll down menu) says
For instance, try manually changing to 3G only, and leave the band in "auto"
Un zip the file copy file to the hd or memory card "IMPORTANT YOU MUST HAVE A REGISTRY PROGRAM THAT CAN IMPORT A KEY" open the regisrty edit program go to the section that you use to import a key then it will as you for the key to import point it to the file you just placed on the HD eith the phone it's self or memory card. Once key is imported you can delete file
Would this work on a tri-band phone in the US of A?

Having been unable to get any sense out of O2 in Thailand or Singapore, I took the plunge and installed the PUG ROM (stripped version) from this forum. This went smoothly and most issues that I was having have been resolved. There are however a couple of caveats, obviously the Autoconfig utility goes, not a big issue but I found that using Orange I could not initially receive calls but after making a couple of outgoing calls could. Looking through the Phone settings I note that the Band Selection is gone, i.e. Auto, 900, 1800 etc. presumably this is installed with the Autoconfig. However I think this is not a major issue just to KIV. The issue of the 'vanishing' screen orientation shortcut at the bottom of the today screen isn't resolved, it vanished very quickly. Anyone know how to resolve this one?
Another advantage of the PUG ROM is that it gives more memory!
I've installed pug's rom with o2 crap stripped and camera being improved and it's working find. I did share the same problems like you but it's all gone. I should say almost all but the missing screen orientation icon on the bottom of the today screen.
As for the band selector etc., maybe the following would be of any use to you. You can download custom asia rom here:
http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/Alpine/ExtROM_XDAIIi_v1.11Cooked_2577.rar
you'll find some rom goodies there. Just install whichever you like with a cab installer program so that you can put them in your storage instead of cluttering your main memory!
cheers from your ASEAN friend.
Cooked Asian EXT Rom
Cheers, downloaded this, indeed has quite a few things that may be of use...
downloading it, hope this one will work.
The only things that missing are:
1. Screen orientation button
2. Band network selector
is that all ?
using ftp://xda:[email protected]_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed.rar
sorry for the silly questions.
autoconfigurator
hi. any cab files for the autoconfigurator in the original O2 rom?
Missing screen rotation icon
Has anybody found out how to restore this feature?
Combine pugs ROM with the one from pdamobiz.com
Just take the Autoconfig Asia from pdamobiz and make our own Extended ROM......
Im sure it will help you.....
Is the screenrotate.dll still part of the startup service?
I used Memmaid to check on the startup service of my Alpine. (Still using stock 02 Asia ROM, and still trying to understand to cook own ROM)
If pug's ROM still has the screenrotate.dll in startup service, can we have the icon back by editing the registry?
Screen Rotate & Band Selection CABs
Found something that might be of interest for those who want the band selection and screen rotate icon.
Found out from O2 asia ExtROM that there is a bandsel file... from another forum I read it was for band selection in Phone properties. Might be the band selection everyone here is looking for.
The other is RotateSE.Arm.CAB. Stated it is for rotate screen.
The first I have attached a copy but for the second I can't seem to DL it but rest assured will post it ASAP.
Haven't tried it out, I'm still making research to customize my own ExtROM.
Hope this helps!

Could you copy the bandsel.exe file from your phone and add it here to a zip file? I'm trying to fix the crippled bandsel.exe from my blackjack. No, it's not mine which is "broken". It just comes like that straight from Cingular.
I found this file on ftp:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Hermes/SetHSDPA.zip
I don't know who uploaded it and where is it from (probably an ExtROM).
I used cabextract and strings commands to see what's in there, it seems released by HTC, as it contains this string, very similar to others found on other HTC binaries:
d:\My Documents\HTC\Proj\Hermes\SetHSDPA\Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK (ARMV4 I)\Release\SetHSDPA.pdb
Anyone tried it? Is it really working? Is there more info about this I am missing?... thanks!
Whats it do?
Apart from Set HSDPA ?!?!?
Oh yeah, pof !
Also just discovered it on the ftp.
Mystification or leeched from a HTC server ?
The exe won't run on the PDA, but what should it do if run on a PC ?
On the one hand I keep away from trying out dubious software on the PC (won't catch me one of those tricky rootkit trojans or the like).
On the other hand you can also find information on this code here:
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/kyunga/20060707
and here
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/kyunga/20060720
Only problem is:
I do not understand Japanese...
But I'm sure someone here can read this and can report what our friends far away in Japan might have found out
[Calling for xda-dev members from Japan !]
Also I'd be interested in finding out what it does as I always "only" get very good UMTS speed with my HTC here, though HSDPA is there (checked with one of those Mobile Connect Data Cards).
So my TyTN is either not (yet) HSDPA enabled or somehow it is unable to "understand" the encoding from the network here and falls back to UMTS.
Interesting anyway, but I'm sure we will find out about it soon.

You have to run the .lnk file, not the .exe file, this is what it does: SetHSDPA.exe /Enable

Yes, I am always getting UMTS speeds too...
Yes, I am original writer of those articles in my blog
20060707 is written about SetHSDPA.exe option, and 20060720 is about English ROM for Dopod CHT9000 (actually for Dopod 838 Pro that just released in Singapore).
I guess SetHSDPA.exe is in the ROM of all HTC hermes devices. The "SetHSDPA.exe /enable" or "SetHSDPA.exe /disable" is described on PreAutoRun.txt file in \Windows folder of Hermes, and be executed it at the first (or hard reset) initializing process of device(before AutoRun from Extended_ROM).
You can check whether HSDPA of your device is enabled or disabled through open the \Windows\PreAutoRun.txt. At least in case of CHT9000, HSDPA is enabled by default.
Regarding the SetHSDPA.zip on the FTP, I guess a Japanese guy (NOT me) has uploaded it, because I saw a post about uploading this file in a Japanese BBS yesterday.
In Japan, NTT DoCoMo (the largest mobile phone service provider in Japan) has started to ship Japanese version of Hermes under the "hTc Z" name from end of last month. hTc Z have also SetHSDPA.exe in the ROM, however it has DISABLED by default, because still DoCoMo has not started HSDPA service on their UMTS network (branded as "FOMA") yet. I heard it will be started end of this month or early September.
So I guess the Japanese poster of this file has copied it from his or her CHT9000, and post into the FTP with /enable shortcut (.lnk).

Yes you're right, I've checked on my TyTN and SetHSDPA is in \Windows folder and called from PreConfig.txt file (not PreAutoRun.txt).
There is some other interesting stuff on that file also
Many thanks for your clear explanation, I posted the details to wiki

My V1605 shows "disable" in preconfig.txt. Phoned customer support at VF business and was told that this was correct as they are currently only supporting HSDPA on data cards. At this time it is not clear if/when this may change! This is totally different to what I was told when I ordered it.
Since I got my t-mob data card at the weekend I thought the V1605 was slow.
The sethsdpa.ink will not run on my device so I assume it is a first boot only thing, if not somebody please tell me how to make it run!

just put .exe and .lnk in the same folder, and click on .lnk. Nothing is displayed on the screen (as it is intended to run at boot time, and you don't want to see popups when booting), but HSDPA is then enabled.

I tried that but I think Vodafone did something later on to stop it working. I get the message
"The file 'SetHSDPA.exe /Enable' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file."
Please help Just got a data card and I now realise how much faster HSDPA is and want it for my mobile surfing.

The EXE is already in \Windows Folder on XDA trion!
You need only the .lnk File.
right you are. but nevertheless, if you use the xisting sethsdpa.exe, I get the error message: "hsdpa.exe/enable can't be opened. either you are using a file with not trustworthy signature or the file can't be found. please install file again"
have you really tried it on your trion? definitely not working on mine

sorry, I meant "sethsdpa.exe" I guess, I have the right file as I only copied it from the upload on ftp without any changes. just does not work.
has anybody experienced that it works?

Hi Frank,
Just want to know, does your ISP HSDPA can make voice call? Per HK smartone vodaphone said 3.5 G HSDPA service has no voice channel!!! What else solutions can help? SKYPE (really stupid for a phone to use SKYPE to make calls) or dual Number SIM card? Does a dual chips SIM card can support both 2G and 3.5G at the same card?
Thanks,
siukeung
Hi all,
I recently got my SPV 3100. I am using the original Orange ROM and extended Rom. Intially the 3G symbol was showing after the installation of the extended ROM. Now, after I have installed loads of apps, the symbol has reverted back to a U. Has anybody had similar or are there any solutions?
Thanks
Isn't the U (a very short version of the word "UMTS") the 3G symbol? The G is for GPRS/EDGE connection...
Yes it is - but i prefer to actually say 3G
Allright.. But what is the 3G symbole (as compared to the U symbol)?
It is just 3G rather than U
True, but its still bugs me, there must be a way to fic this?
there is, don't cancel the ext rom install. One of the cabs adds the 3G symbol. Either that or find out which cab does it and manually install it. Depends entirely on how much it bothers you.
shouldn't ot just be a case of replacing the "U" bmp with a "3G" bmp
can't find the "U" bmp/icon though
all the others are in the windows directory i.e. the "G" icon and all the other icons but not the "U" icon
where is it?
Guys,
These icons are held in phcanOverbmp.dll, you will need a resource editor like HeavenTools Resource Tuner to edit it. However, I tried this and was not successful, the files saved OK and I even signed it (possibly not correctly). I then placed it in the windows directory but for some reason it would not pick it up, still got the U. If I use the original Vodafone one which has the 3G icons it works fine (so I knwo it is definately this file) but the problem here is that this file also contains the Call History icons and I do not like the vodafone ones.
If anyone has any luck let me know.
I have rerun the orange ext Rom but the icon is still a U. I have installed the vodafone dialer skin, I wonder if this has something to do with it?
It's not a problem but it is bugging me. In AKU2.3 in 3G network I had "U" icon. There is separate thread about it.
In SA Rom AKU3.3.1 thare is "3G" icon and I would like to change it to "U" icon. Any sugestions how to do it?
Solution from AKU2.3 is not working.
I agree with you. The "3G" icon looks very amateur. An "H" and a "U" would be far more appropriate!
I fixed this with a .dll from a different ROM. Let me find it and I'll upload it here.
Ok, here it is. You need this .dll - phcanoverbmp.dll . I've been using the one from the HTC WWE 2.05 (AKU 3.3) test Rom. It will show H for HSDPA, U for UMTS, E for EDGE, and G for GPRS.
The .dll goes in the \Windows directory. You won't be able to overwrite the old one since it's protected. You can RENAME the original file to something else (I suggest phcanoverbmp.dll.OLD) and leave it there as a backup in case something goes wrong. Then copy or move this .dll into \Windows
I used Total Commander to do all the renaming/moving. Not sure if you can do it from File Explorer or not.
Then power off, power on or soft reset.
All the fixes people made into cabs in other threads would do screwy things. Usually they'd always say 3G or U even when I was limiting the phone to GSM/GPRS mode (Disabling 3G).
I'd like to know how I can tweak the country code/settings of HTC Home before installing it to Artemis?
My wife had P3300 (Artemis) with English language (WM5) and I flashed it to Finnish WM6. Now when I installed HTC Home version 2.xxx to it, some of the features work and some of them don't work.
So how to tweak the country code in order to make HTC Home work in my wife's phone?
Thanks in advance!
Well, many have read this thread but unfortunately nobody knows the answer although some persons know how to tweak ROM settings

In the windows folder of your wife´s Artemis should be a file named HTCHome.dll.0409.mui and you have to rename it as HTCHome.dll.040B.mui

Thanks! Now it's working a bit better, but still not completely right. The weather forecast appeared and it tells you to choose the correct city. After that nothing happens. Some features were added to "Launcher" but I still cannot add any applications to it. Still it's not possible to add any favourite people to "Quick dialer". The audio manager works fine.
Is there something else that should be taken to account ot tweak in order to get HTC Home work completely right? Maybe those things I mentioned are language related things and thus HTC Home doesn't work with Finnish WM6???
OK, what to do next? Should I change the name of some folders from Finnish to English if HTC Home would then find the paths more easier or do I have to tweak other HTC Home files (plugin?) files as well?
And as always, your hints are highly appreciated.

OK, thanks a lot again! I searched Windows directory but didn't find any other files with the title .0409.mui. Maybe I should extract HTC HOME file to my laptop's harddrive and try to search whether there are any other files with the title .0409.mui. If I remember correctly, there was also a mention of 0409 in one of the DLL files. Maybe I should change that 0409 to 040B also inside the file as well to its name???

YES, YES, that's what it takes
I connected my wife's phone to my laptop computer and renamed every file which was titled *0409* to *040B*. After that I did a soft reset and when the phone was turned on, HTC Home worked perfectly.
Thank a million for this advice!
BTW, is this "040B" some kind of universal code for HTC Home or is it just a code for Finnish WM6?
