Hi all,
I recently got my SPV 3100. I am using the original Orange ROM and extended Rom. Intially the 3G symbol was showing after the installation of the extended ROM. Now, after I have installed loads of apps, the symbol has reverted back to a U. Has anybody had similar or are there any solutions?
Thanks
Isn't the U (a very short version of the word "UMTS") the 3G symbol? The G is for GPRS/EDGE connection...
Yes it is - but i prefer to actually say 3G
Allright.. But what is the 3G symbole (as compared to the U symbol)?
It is just 3G rather than U
True, but its still bugs me, there must be a way to fic this?
there is, don't cancel the ext rom install. One of the cabs adds the 3G symbol. Either that or find out which cab does it and manually install it. Depends entirely on how much it bothers you.
shouldn't ot just be a case of replacing the "U" bmp with a "3G" bmp
can't find the "U" bmp/icon though
all the others are in the windows directory i.e. the "G" icon and all the other icons but not the "U" icon
where is it?
Guys,
These icons are held in phcanOverbmp.dll, you will need a resource editor like HeavenTools Resource Tuner to edit it. However, I tried this and was not successful, the files saved OK and I even signed it (possibly not correctly). I then placed it in the windows directory but for some reason it would not pick it up, still got the U. If I use the original Vodafone one which has the 3G icons it works fine (so I knwo it is definately this file) but the problem here is that this file also contains the Call History icons and I do not like the vodafone ones.
If anyone has any luck let me know.
I have rerun the orange ext Rom but the icon is still a U. I have installed the vodafone dialer skin, I wonder if this has something to do with it?

Having been unable to get any sense out of O2 in Thailand or Singapore, I took the plunge and installed the PUG ROM (stripped version) from this forum. This went smoothly and most issues that I was having have been resolved. There are however a couple of caveats, obviously the Autoconfig utility goes, not a big issue but I found that using Orange I could not initially receive calls but after making a couple of outgoing calls could. Looking through the Phone settings I note that the Band Selection is gone, i.e. Auto, 900, 1800 etc. presumably this is installed with the Autoconfig. However I think this is not a major issue just to KIV. The issue of the 'vanishing' screen orientation shortcut at the bottom of the today screen isn't resolved, it vanished very quickly. Anyone know how to resolve this one?
Another advantage of the PUG ROM is that it gives more memory!
I've installed pug's rom with o2 crap stripped and camera being improved and it's working find. I did share the same problems like you but it's all gone. I should say almost all but the missing screen orientation icon on the bottom of the today screen.
As for the band selector etc., maybe the following would be of any use to you. You can download custom asia rom here:
http://files.pdamobiz.com/ROMs/XDA/Alpine/ExtROM_XDAIIi_v1.11Cooked_2577.rar
you'll find some rom goodies there. Just install whichever you like with a cab installer program so that you can put them in your storage instead of cluttering your main memory!
cheers from your ASEAN friend.
Cooked Asian EXT Rom
Cheers, downloaded this, indeed has quite a few things that may be of use...
downloading it, hope this one will work.
The only things that missing are:
1. Screen orientation button
2. Band network selector
is that all ?
using ftp://xda:[email protected]_Radio-1.04_O2stuffstripped_Camera_Fixed.rar
sorry for the silly questions.
autoconfigurator
hi. any cab files for the autoconfigurator in the original O2 rom?
Missing screen rotation icon
Has anybody found out how to restore this feature?
Combine pugs ROM with the one from pdamobiz.com
Just take the Autoconfig Asia from pdamobiz and make our own Extended ROM......
Im sure it will help you.....
Is the screenrotate.dll still part of the startup service?
I used Memmaid to check on the startup service of my Alpine. (Still using stock 02 Asia ROM, and still trying to understand to cook own ROM)
If pug's ROM still has the screenrotate.dll in startup service, can we have the icon back by editing the registry?
Screen Rotate & Band Selection CABs
Found something that might be of interest for those who want the band selection and screen rotate icon.
Found out from O2 asia ExtROM that there is a bandsel file... from another forum I read it was for band selection in Phone properties. Might be the band selection everyone here is looking for.
The other is RotateSE.Arm.CAB. Stated it is for rotate screen.
The first I have attached a copy but for the second I can't seem to DL it but rest assured will post it ASAP.
Haven't tried it out, I'm still making research to customize my own ExtROM.
Hope this helps!

Could you copy the bandsel.exe file from your phone and add it here to a zip file? I'm trying to fix the crippled bandsel.exe from my blackjack. No, it's not mine which is "broken". It just comes like that straight from Cingular.
I've been playing this weekend, first downgrading the ROM with 1.04 bootloader, so I could upgrade to the latest HTC x.35 ROM. Having done that and upgraded the radio to the latest version as well, I find I still have one issue.
I've combed through all the registry hacks and have flipped the right bits and entered the appropriate keys/strings and yet I can't get this phone to display anything but "ROGERS" (302720) on the today screen. I was successful changing the operator name on my HTC Herald before sending it off to a friend, but this unit will not cooperate.
Anyone have some hints on where else (obscure if necessary) I can look to make this thing display what I want?
I've never been able to do this either on the Hermes
I kinda think I'm missing the point here...but I got rid of most of my Cingular logos simply by simply downloading all the stuff in my 8525's \windows directory to my pc, and finding all the gif's, png's and jpg files that were Cingular logos. Then I loaded those graphics into photoshop and made transparent images of the same size and properties, saved them back using the original names, and reloaded them to the original locations on the 8525. Restart, and voila, no more Cingular branding.
Maybe this will work in your case?

No actually, this has nothing to do with the files on the phone, except that the tweak to change the Operator Name given the right registry value (302720) should work, but doesn't.
OK ... never mind. But I'm confused by what you're asking. You actually have Rogers branding on your Today Screen? Where does it appear?
Maybe this is something Cingular didn't implement? (Thankfully?)
Sorry I couldn't help. (wish there was an icon for "embarrassed"),
No, not branding, it's just displaying "Rogers" on the homescreen when I'd prefer to dictate what it displays.
Cruisin1966 - Rogers name is part of SimCard, you wan't change it.
Same was here - non VoiceStream (or current T-Mobile US) cards said VoiceStream (T-Mobile US), VoiceStream (T-Mobile US) cards said VStream (T-Mobile).
It is part of SIMcard and if your's OTA operator can change name as they want.
Hope this help
No disrespect intended, but please re-read my original post. I successfully changed the name displayed on the homescreen with the HTC Herald, and my question was why can't I changed the name displayed on this 8525.
Cruisin1966 - Question: Does Rogers has 3G network so your phone could log in there?

3G isn't available anywhere but around Toronto, as far as I know. Definitely not in/near Calgary, that much I do know.
Cruisin1966 - hmmm I thought that it might be OpName over UMTS but now it might be just imposible to change SIM directive in this model. I have the same problem with Cingular or T-Mobile.
Lets wait for official aku 3.3 and then we can go back to this discussion.
It's not a problem but it is bugging me. In AKU2.3 in 3G network I had "U" icon. There is separate thread about it.
In SA Rom AKU3.3.1 thare is "3G" icon and I would like to change it to "U" icon. Any sugestions how to do it?
Solution from AKU2.3 is not working.
I agree with you. The "3G" icon looks very amateur. An "H" and a "U" would be far more appropriate!
I fixed this with a .dll from a different ROM. Let me find it and I'll upload it here.
Ok, here it is. You need this .dll - phcanoverbmp.dll . I've been using the one from the HTC WWE 2.05 (AKU 3.3) test Rom. It will show H for HSDPA, U for UMTS, E for EDGE, and G for GPRS.
The .dll goes in the \Windows directory. You won't be able to overwrite the old one since it's protected. You can RENAME the original file to something else (I suggest phcanoverbmp.dll.OLD) and leave it there as a backup in case something goes wrong. Then copy or move this .dll into \Windows
I used Total Commander to do all the renaming/moving. Not sure if you can do it from File Explorer or not.
Then power off, power on or soft reset.
All the fixes people made into cabs in other threads would do screwy things. Usually they'd always say 3G or U even when I was limiting the phone to GSM/GPRS mode (Disabling 3G).
Right here we go
You can download the Google Panel files here in the "Google Panel.zip" file. This Zip contains the files needed for the google panel (including some renamed files to work with the VodafonePanel registry settings).
Download the file, extract it somewhere on your pc.
Make sure your phone isn't on the Vodafone Panel and connect your phone to the pc and open Program Files/Panels/VodafonePanel/
Delete all the files (don't worry, I've uploaded a copy of the original Vodafone Panel files too)
Now copy all the files from the Google Panel you extracted to the phone into the VodafonePanel folder
Disconnect your phone from the pc and press the panel key.
Enjoy the Google Panel
Thanks very much for this mate. I want to get the X1 on vodafone, since its too pricy for me to justify getting it sim free/unbranded. Seeing as you know more about the vodafone version of the phone than I do, would you mind answering these questions I have please?
1- Is it really sim free, as people are claiming it is (what I mean is, can you put another sim in it during the contract period and just use it as if it was a normal sim free phone- while still paying for your contract, of course- due to travelling, I may have to do this a couple of times)?
2- I have heard there is a problem regarding the internet connection on vodafone versions, where it will restrict you from using wifi to connect for some reason. Is this true? If so, is there a way round it? (I specifically plan to only use wifi over here)
3- Other than the google panel being replaced by the vodafone panel, are the rest of the panels the same as on the normal sim free models? (I heard one other one 'The design panel' is missing)
4- If I perform this change to replace the vodafone panel to the google panel, can the google panel then be changed for something else? (ie, will it be locked to the panel UI like the vodafone one was?
Thank you so much

1. It is sim free, I'm using mine with my Tmobile sim
2. I can't get it to use Wifi myself, but there are others on here who have.
3. I don't have the design panel on my vodafone branded X1, but it appears the rest of the panels are standard and unbranded.
4. The vodafone panel can be unlocked by changing the key HKLM/Software/SonyEricsson/PanelManager/Panels/Vodafone Panel/Locked to 0.
Hope this helps
'I can't get it to use Wifi myself, but there are others on here who have.' -At all!!!???
One more thing then: if the phone is vodafone branded, what happens as regards firmware updates?
Cheers
I can use wifi for opera etc, but email and messenger want to use the vodafone gprs or 3g.
It has Windows Update so I assume that is where any updates will come from
I've got a vodafone one with an O2 sim in it, so like Hutchy says, it's definitely sim unlocked.
I've connected to my exchange server via wifi fine, although I haven't tried it with any other accounts.
Realistically firmware (ROM) updates will be done manually by you after OliNex and co have created a HardSPL to allow us to flash without bricking our phones. If Vodafone are anything like O2, they will only release an updated ROM once a year, about 6 months after HTC have released it.

windows update is not used as far as i know - its quite redundant. ive never received an update on it for the years i have used these phones! If it plays out like it does with other HTC phones, which i assume it will, then the new firmware will come from Sony Ericsson for unbranded, but for the network operator phones, it will come from the networks, so Vodafone will get it, play with it and then release it, if they ever do!

Sweet thanks for this hutchy69
Anyone else have any issue with multiple words? When I search using two keywords, it only passes the first one to Google in Opera.
Does anyone have the google panel cab so I am able to install it???
Cheers
I tried using this to install over the O2 panel, but it now says 'No Screen Shot' on the panels screen which is less than ideal! Other than that it works fine... Any way to fix this?
Anyone? I can't be the only one who has this.
I tried copying the google panel file to the o2 one but it won't let me, how do you copy them across in the first place?
If any kind soul wants to do a walk through for 02 I too would be most grateful!

Just a normal file copy using the USB cable worked for me... Well, apart from the Panel image not showing up.
Is anyone else getting the 'No Screen Shot' image?
Funny, I thought the panels were supposed to be miniturised 'live' previews of the panel application not static images. I'm surprised there isn't even a way to refresh the image it displays.
Okay, I managed to fix the preview not showing up... I'll post it here in case anyone else gets the same problem;
To replace the O2 panel with the Google Panel, first follow the instructions in the first post. Then you need to edit the registry:
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SonyEricsson\PanelManager\Panels\O2 Panel
Edit the following keys:
Landscape to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\l_bh.bmp'
LargeLandscape to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\l_b.bmp'
LargePortrait to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\p_b.bmp'
Portrait to '\Program Files\Panels\O2 Panel\p_bh.bmp'
Hope it helps someone.
Is it possible to use the google panel and the vodafone panel?
I thried to copy the old VodafonaPanel Files in a new folder called TestPanel haha
But it doesnt work.
Somebody who' nows how to use both of them?
Best Regards Alcje
Sorry doubble post

hey hi may i know how could i acces to hkey_local files?????????
Please look at the attached photo, which is directly off of HTC's Europe website. The top taskbar shows the "H" (HSDPA) icon both above the "signal bars" and also to the left of them. On my TMO US branded HD2, I only get a generic "3G" icon above the signal bars, but nothing to the left (i.e. the "H" in the box as seen in the picture). Is there any way, aside from flashing a cooked rom, to get my HD2 to look like the Euro one? The only thing I want is to see the "H" both above and to the left of the signal bars. Please help, thanks in advance.
Try Lost in Asia ROM. Search the member "bobsbbq". The ROM is fine with few minor bugs.
Note: the ROM in the member's sig will work with US version HD2 (I installed 235xx Glass)
You just have to unlock it via a reg edit I believe. You might be able to find a cab through some searching. All it means is that you are connected via HSDPA.Which is really just 3g+, in real terms a bit faster then standard 3g depending on the exact connection and signal.
That is HSDPA or 3.5G service which is not available in all markets I think. I live in Northern VA and I get the H almost everywhere but sometimes I just get 3G bars when I'm not close to a major city
with a minute to search it was found. Try that it should give you a switch in connection settings to turn it on and off. If you have HSDPA in your area then you'll see it show up if not then you'll never see it short of modding the actual 3g image file.
T-Mobile branding removed G/E/3G/H icons on the left of signal icon. To get it back, you need custom taskbar or de-brand your phone.
Don't forget to run HSPL2 before flashing custom ROM.

With a minute to read, its evident that's not what I was asking. It appears as though Mingkee is right, TMo does like to remove the "H" icon. HSDPA can be enabled from the stock ROM, there is no need for the "switch". Thanks everyone.
The T-Mobile USA branded HD2 does not have the independent icon on the task bar. I actually hardreset my deivce twice thinking that the cabs I installed messed up my device or something.
All you have to do is install a custom taskbar and you would get it back. Not a big deal, as that icon is redundent, as it would just mimic what ever that comes up above the singal bars. Its a matter of getting used to it.

Already working?
Does that mean that inspite of having the 3G icon on the taskbar, the 3.5G or HSDPA is actually working when using the mobile internet??
Because i really do feel that the internet thru network carrier is fast inspite of not having the H sign!

The H on the task bar means nothing other than looks. If you are the stock rom and you have HSPA+ in your area it will just hve faster data with the same 3G icon.

I can tell the difference just by pages loading faster but you can always test on sites like www.mobilespeedtest.com
I use this and it works great on the stock ROM no need for flashing. Here is the link...make sure you use both sdkcert files and restart after everyone you install. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679518
I don't think so
Is it worth to get bugs and crashes from installed cab files just for the sake of changing the way ur stock ROM looks?
I'd rather stick with the 3G sign only than to get cranky error msgs all the time!
But thanx anyways for the tips!

It depends on what kind of cabs you're installing if you're going to have problems. A simple taskbar icon cab does nothing but change the icon pictures. Some do more. I'm using these icons found here. It also requires sdkcertsnew2015.cab (found in same thread). I have not had one bug, crash or bad result from changing to those icons.
