After 2 oem batteries and 2 extended batteries, Im very confused as to whats going on. It will turn on fine, and it will even charge the battery, but once it hits 100% the wizard will restart and it will show battery level as zero and shutdown. I thought mabey it wasnt charging but it will let me install roms and i can restart it as much as i want. Thanks for looking!!!!
One thing i forgot...
I can also get it running by running wires from it to another phone battery ( i was trying to use it to replace my blackjack2) and by taking the 3.3volt power adapter route, i can even get it to start charging. but it will either cut off at 99% and reboot saying dead battery or take the battery out adn put it in to get 0%.
Update.... Not that anyone is reading lol
Ok, Ive made a little more progress today. Using sketchy methods, 3.3v adapter wires between phone and battery, i got it to charge whil on usb with computer to 100% today without shutting off ( a first since before flashed). Once I removed it from usb thou, the battery bar went immediatly down to 50%. I charged it to 100% percent again, but once i dosconected it, the battery level would decrese almost as if the gague were a countdown clock. I tried doing the powersave registry edit posted in these forums, but the phone showed 0% charger after the soft reset and promptly died again.... I just put in the other extended battery i pulled from a nap in the freezer, and if i ever find a solution i will post it... thanks to whoever is looking for looking!!!

Another update...
Ok. Still freezing battery and such. But today i finally got around to dissasembly and everything on the inside seemed fine to the unexperienced eye. the water sticker was ok, no clearly visable burn marks. It was a little dirty, but nothing that should cause this type of error. I did notice some weird things, but im not sure if thats just wizard guts or if its something to be concerned about. Hopefull I'll be able to get some guidance on this, i really hate missing calls on Crapjack2
This is getting expensive.....
So, I bought a battery charger and after rigging it with some wire to charge my extended battery(s), it shows the battery being charged and will run like normall... except i cant charge the batteries in phone..... so yeah... Im waiting on an oem wall charger in the mail, but im still open to the fried main board. I just need to know a little more before i start spending more money lol
edit: oh also, im only really charging it by usb whenever i attempt at internally charging the battery. Occasionally i borrow my cousin's kaiser wall charger, but i dont have mine yet

so strange, i think this is not a fault of battery, because lithium polymer battery is really long lasting, have you connect your x1 to computer, please connect your x1 to charger and wait about 1 hour. but maybe it's the fault of mini usb port, can you sync your x1 before it happen? in your case, bring it up to guarantee service is the best solution, what did you do before the device turn off?
Leave it on the charger, it could take about 15 - 20 minutes to start charging if the battery completely died.
i used a wall charger, and a computer charger, still no luck...i wasnt doing anything, i was playing a game and shut the game off started browsing through the fone, and it just shut off after a few battery low warning sounds. but the red light goes on after a wall charger, but nothing when i try to turn it on, it doesnt turn on, and when i unplug it to try to turn the phone on, the side lights flash red...i have no idea whats goin on but i got the phone today and its pissing me off already i spent 680 on the phone for a peice of crap...

ah, you should keep it in the wall chager a bit longer, and don't use the computer charge at this time, when the battery complete die, you should keep it charge about 10 minutes before you can start it, don't worry, when you can see the flash light turn red, it's charging, wait a few minutes more, it's will work, just forget about it, go somewhere, when you comeback, push the power button:d

was had same problem.just leave it charged.i leave it charged into usb drive, and it needs 5h before he turn on.battery was completely dead, like probably you have too.just leave it charged throught the night.
Charge some time and then remove battery cover and try to reset. as u mentioned lights are flashing when u r trying to switch on so just reset.
The X1 of my colleague had the same problem and he had the battery replaced by the vendor, no questions asked as it was dead after only 2 days...

Hi, I got similar problem and I called the support guys.
They advised me to remove the battery and charge the phone for 30 min and charged with the battery for 1.5 hour.
He claimed is some 'internal battery' stuffs.
Anyway I tried and it works.
In addition, I charged the battery when the level hits a minimum of 20%.
So far so good
Good luck.

i drained my hero completely now when i plug my charger into the amber light blinks and the device won't turn on or charge like i said the amber light is blinking not solid please help!
im guessing its blinking because its low. have you tried pluggin it into the pc usb slot? tried another cable? maybe its just your one charger
how did you drain it? were you tethering and it got hot?

Try another charger, i had two chargers go bad on me.
i ran the battery down while i was talking on it.
and now it just does that.. im very depressed about it lol!
let it charge for a while until it has enough power to complete a boot cycle.
i tried this, it sat overngiht for 7 hours and stil ldoes the same thing..
Tried pulling the battery and putting it back in after a minute or two?
absolutely man i've tried everything i've known..
Just leave it plugged in with the blinking amber. It should charge up enough to turn solid amber within 15 minutes.
that's the thing i left it plugged u for 7 hours and still flashing amber
wow... don't know what to tell you. call sprint about that
Have you tried booting w/o the battery into recovery and resetting the battery stats?
I would definitely try what Biggz said above. I do recall hearing once that the type of battery the Hero uses isn't meant to be completely drained, and that's why it shuts off before it runs completely down to 0. You may have messed up your battery or something. I think the easiest thing to do would be to call Sprint.
Sounds like a problem ipods have lol..when the battery completely drains it,it sometimes doesnt charge up..n if it does it takes forever....try a different battery.if that dont work, take it to sprint..thats weird.keep us posted on what they tell u.....most likely the battery overheated.id probably take the battery out meanwhile i take it to sprint, just in case the battery leaks; it wont mess up the phone.
Yeah, Lithium-Ion batteries aren't meant to be deep cycled (completly draining them and then trying to charge them). It can shorten the batteries lifespan, or kill it altogether.

battery issue
I've run into this issue like 4 times. Its one of my biggest issues w the hero. I go to bed w a low battery warning plug it in then i wake up to a paper weight.
Has anyone found a good answer? my phone charged 7hrs and I've been pulling the battery on off plug unplug for about 2 hrs now. I've already ordered a new battery but that wont help me today.
Anyone find a fix? I'm up for any and all suggestions: eek:
When I'm at my desk (most of the day), I like to have my phone plugged in to keep the battery full. The vibrant has an annoying "feature" that will beep and pop up a window whenever the battery is full, which makes using it when plugged in difficult. Even once it's full, it will occasionally pop up again while I'm trying to do something on the phone. I know leaving it plugged in won't actually harm the battery, so I don't see this as being anything other than an annoyance.
Is there any way to disable this thing? They sell (or will soon sell) car and desk docks, and I can't imagine you're expected to deal with this popup every few min. while you have your phone in a dock. There must be some way to get around it.
Third thread in two days. No solution yet.search.
Did a title-only search for "battery". Only two relevant results in last 10 days, neither said no solution. Best answer from those threads was "I don't know".
try renaming the chargingwarning.qmg file to chargingwarning.qmg.backup in the /system/media and see what happens. I did this with the bootsamsung.qmg to get rid of the bootup animation
What file manager did you use? I just tried this with ES File Explorer and got "operation failed". I assume it's a permissions thing? The phone is rooted, but ES never asked for SU permission.
I was able to rename it with root explorer, which killed the notification beep. The window still pops up whenever it's plugged in, though. Can't wait for a stable, stripped down Froyo rom.

keeping your phone stored on the charger for an extended period of time is actually bad for the battery. lithium polymer packs like we have are pretty sensitive to overcharging. the last thing you want to have is your battery puff on you.

nobody said you had to. im just saying that in general its advisable to remove the phone from the charger when the battery is done charging.. or as close to that time as possible. a few hours after its done wont make a significant difference. just dont leave it charging for 12 hours after its already full.
I thought the lithium ion batteries certified with ISO standards have a overcharge protection circuit?
I think its bad if overcharging is causing the battery to overheat, but I really doubt there is no overcharge protection for such a high end phone.
I've read in a couple places now that the phone actually stops charging once it reaches 100%, at which point it runs off of the battery until unplugged and plugged back in. The "Battery Full" message then would be to say that there's no reason to keep the phone plugged in anymore. Since the phone is not drawing a current/charging anymore, there's no way the battery can be damaged by leaving it plugged in.
Downside is that you can plug the phone in at night, it'll be fully charged 2 hours in, then discharge for 6 hours before you even wake up.
I'll see if I can find the discussions on this.
I don't believe that is correct, I plug the phone in at night before bed and unplug it in the morning and it has a full charge.
Trying the rename now. Will post if it fixes the popular. But may only change the alert noise. I keep my phone off or on silent at night.
These phones have lithium ion batteries over charging is not an issue.

This is not the solution. This makes the full battery image go away when the phone is off, making it seem stalled. The pop-up notification remains.

QMG files are the 3d/2d renderings used when the phone is off or when booting up. the fully charged notification is text and thus not a QMG. To fix this you need a custom rom or a specialized app to disable it as it is in the source code.

This is not true. There isn't a lithium ion/polymer device battery that can be damaged by staying on the charger. The charging circuitry switches from constant current charger when the battery is mostly full to constant voltage charging. After reaching a predefined max voltage the charging stops. Overcharging is not only bad for lithium based batteries, but rather they can explode. So, it would be impossible to have something on the market that didn't intelligently stop charging (unless of course you are buying things from flea markets in china).
In fact, if you want the longest life out of your battery you will keep it as fully charged as possible. Lithium based batteries are primarily limited by number of charge/discharge cycles (approx 300 and it also depending on load requirements, i.e. less for high load devices like laptops) and secondarily by age. Keeping it charged is the best way to go.
Samsung support told me on Twitter it was not configurable. I told them to have their software team make it disableable in the 2.2 update.
I'm sure they'll get right on it, just like they did with the GPS issue... and the compass issue... and the accelerometer issue... and the stalling issue...
Hey guys,
I noticed this yesterday my Nexus 4 (running PA 3.6, franco milestone 1) shut down at 30% charge. I went home and charged it (it showed 0 when I started charging it) to 100% continuously.
Today too the phone shut down when it was around 32-31% and now charging has again started from 0%.
What could be the issue?
I have tried the battery calibration app even though I know it does nothing.
Any ideas?

I have been flashing nightlies merrily on the Nexus4, never had to recalibrate the battery, though it sounds like your does need that. (I had a Desire HD before this, and it was very sensitive to errors in battery calibration)
How about if you charge the phone fully then either reflash the ROM or flash a nandroid backup you've made? Either of those options will overwrite the battery stats file - if that's the problem.
It could be that the chip in the battery is malfunctioning, ie a new battery could be needed, but that sounds much less likely

Okay I'll try reflashing the ROM when I'm at a 100%, I know deleting the batterystats.bin file doesn't do anything but I did that anyways yesterday, but it seems it didn't fix the calibration issue.
Any other ideas I could try while I charge my phone to a 100%?

Hi, @paul c, I would like to inform you that my phone's discharging just fine (charged it to a 100% last night and it's currently at 48%, I didn't reflash my ROM but I did reboot it once. I also haven't charged it since then)
Could you tell me what's the minimum and maximum battery voltage? I am guessing that the max voltage is around 4200mV but what's the minimum? Also, can we calculate the REAL battery %age from the voltage that is displayed by apps like DashClock? If we can do that could you tell me how/what formula we use to do that?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions and I would really appreciate any help here !
Thanks!

Hi,
I was inspecting the battery's voltage/charge the entire day today and I realized that at around 36% the voltage went around 3000mV (3100mV, Nexus 4's battery is rated at 3800mV and it maxes at around 4200mV). After that when I plugged it back in and turned it on it started charging from 0%.
I think the battery is at fault.
Is there any fix for this which does not involve replacing the battery?
Thanks!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I tried charging through the night and then discharging it completely and charging it completely again. I also tried deleting the batterystats file (even though I know it doesn't do anything)
So what do you suggest I should do? Get the phone replaced or get the battery changed?
I live in India and the phone is from Canada, so replacing the phone will take some time but I can get the battery replaced for around $20
Also my nexus is also showing +ve mA values while it's not charging, and the values are absolutely crazy, +268, +168, +1171 (in batter monitor widget)
Please tell me what I should do.

Okay, I got my battery replaced, drained it to 0% (after a full charge) and going to charge it completely by the travel adapter that I purchased from the service center.
Attached are the pics of my old battery, I don't know if you can see it but it's swollen. If I recall I used a nexus s' charging cable to charge the phone from a computer and it was charging like AC (my kernel usb fast charge was OFF) and it also never detected my phone in the explorer (Windows)
My problem's solved now, it was a battery issue for me. I upgraded to PA 4.3 in the process by the way
So I guess I'll stick to my regular micro USB cable and charge via the travel adapter whenever possible, thank you everyone for your inputs!
