When I first purchased the imagio it ran okay but than it ran slow the more I used it. So I went and did a hard reset/format choosing CUSTOM CINFIGURATION. Now I dont know if it was that format or the fact that its ALWAYS good to give a device a second formaty when first purchased (my 2 cents). But now the phone is super super fast! I ran navigator, camera,,opera and 2 other programs on the background and the phone still kept running great!
In my movies which are formated with iphone format are running nicely, before they were out of sync with the voice coming from peoples mouth.
Try it!
Btw, if you keep hitting the volume keys alot. Here's what you can do which works great. Tape the sides of the volume buttons, than get some 1000 or 1500 grit sand paper. Use a small flat peice of SOMETHING to to put on the back of the sand paper. Now sand block the buttons down to your liking!
Finish it of by sandin very lightly so the light scrathes will sand of. Than polish it up with some SMALL amount of black shoe polish or the like.
Now Im not costently hittin those buttons and I can still use them well.
Anyone have any other tips? Next im going to drill a very small hole on the battery cover so I can reset without having to take out the battery cover!
i was thinking of a reset hole as well, but shutxp works nice for me. how about a small slit so the mem card is accessable without pulling cover off? fire up that dremle tool!

Pardon my ignorance, what is this Hard Reset you talk about? Is this like reinstalling Windows? If possible explain your steps I'm interested.
Hard Reset
Hard Reset is basically deleting the entire device and all apps installed and restoring to a factory setting. This is done by:
All Settings > System > Memory > Clear Storage.
You will be prompted to enter in a value of 1234 and this will proceed to restore the phone to the factory settings.
Good idea if you need to reset, transfer the phone to someone else, etc. This does not delete your memory card if you have one in the phone. So make sure to remove that if you're giving the phone to someone.
JasjarMan,
Any idea what CUSTOM CONFIG got you? Less bloatware? More free memory?
I've been thinking about doing a hard reset after I play with a few tweaks/cabs to see what I like before "finalizing" my config.

Yeah... I noticed that option.
I went to my local Verizon store today to play with the Imagio and I noticed that it was lagging pretty bad so when the reps weren't looking I went to Clear Storage, but I just figured maybe someone had messed with this one and had saved some sort of settings or something... so I just chose the default one. Took forever! and it didn't seem to help the lag very much.
One thing I noticed that was kinda cool though was that it doesn't force you to go through the "first experience" wizard (I think that's what it's called). It just grinds away for a couple of minutes, then takes you straight into the today screen. Hadn't seen that before. Every other WM device I have seen forces you to calibrate the screen and set the clock, etc after a hard reset.

Hey guys,
Todays i dropped the XDA2 and it got some scratches near the bluetooth blue lamp. It looks a bit ugly, but i could only be thankful that it didn't die.
Few hours later, i charged the thing, took it off, left it for a while, grabbed it to use the calculater, finished using it, was closing the application, AND BOOOM, a hard reset for no reason.
Note : I was closing it through the battery pack X icon on the top.
Question is, what was that for, and am i to expect sudden death hard-resets in the future, and if so, what can i do.
Thanks in advance.
LOL!
"Hard-Reset For No Reason after it had dropped"
Yeah! Sure..
"Pasient died for no reason after surgery by drunk doctor with a leatherman"
Try getting it serviced..
If the problem doesn't get fixed, return it to the same service point..
Depending on the laws in your country, you might get a new one after a while..
Well i bought this one from england, so i don't know there is any way of returning it, that if the returning policy of O2 includes getting a hit on the ground.
The question remains, will it do this hard-reset again...?
Any one with similar experience.
hard reset
Mine has done involuntary hard reset 2x now. Both have been whilst using the Agend Fusion application, On the first occasion it wiped and disabled a 512 SD card (real pisser) and the second aload of backed up appointments notes etc that I'd just entered. However I did get the SD card before that too was wiped. Thats the good news.....
For you the bad news, since my original post I've had no response to my query. I've checked out the issue with Dev one the designers of agenda fusion cross checked the ROM version and all to no avail!!
Pisser I know, but it seems to me the only way to protect from this is regular backups to PC and use Xbackup to a seperate SD which you always carry.
If anybody can add anything more useful please advise.
Finally, you can take it back to o2 and ask for a replacement as the superficial damage didn't appear to have an immediate effect...
let me know how you get on with this I'm interested.
Pete
I'm not intending to return it O2, it's working, and maybe this problem of Hard-Reset was just due to that when it was dropped the battery got misplaced or that some dust got into it which cause that Hard-Reset.
That was 1, 2- I live in Egypt, and i have to send it all the way back to O2, not unless something really bad Happened, like it doing this hard-reset on it's one 2-3 times more.
A backup will be a VERY GOOD CHOICE. (Please do it for god's sake, or you will have to lose everything, I've warned you!!!)
Thanks for sharing.
But the question remains, Will this damn thing do it again, maybe time will only tell.
I have an O2 XDA2. I just took the phone out of my jacket pocket to find that it wanted me to calibrate the screen. It went on to take me through the whole set-up wizard and then I found that all my data and installed programs had been lost
I'm guessing the phone decided it wanted to reset itself!
Does anyone have any idea why this might have happened so I can avoid it happening again?
The phone had plenty of battery power (approx 80%). It had plenty of space space (approx 28MB). I hadn't recently installed any software although I did uninstall Pocket Money on the weekend. I also created an IMAP email account then but I've had no problem with the phone since then until now.
Any ideas? Thanks very much
would prob be a good idear if you stated the rom version you are using
Sorry, It's 1.60.00 WWE
I have never upgraded it as I haven't the first idea how or what the implications are.
the latest officail rom is 1.72
if you get that from their site you will not get warrenty issues
when i used 1.66 i had lockups from time to time
after i got 1.72
i havent had any issues
I don't really feel comfortable upgrading it as I haven't the first idea what to do.
How do you normally reset a device? Is it something I could have done by accident?
there is a little hole in the buttom of it in the right corner if you press that using something thin like the stylus while you press the on button
then it hardreset
but there is software which let you do it as well
the upgrade is really pretty simpel
Thanks very much. I know the reset button, I use that every now and again. There's no way I could have pressed it and the on switch by accident given tha the phone was in an otherwise empty jacket pocket.
Oh well, I guess my phone just had enough of life. I'll look into upgrading the ROM when I feel a bit more adventurous
Fabulous...My phone has again decided to reset itself out of the blue.
I have no idea why it does this but it's a pain in the rear. Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone know if there's anything I can do to prevent it? (other than upgrading to the Universal when it comes out!!)
And it's happened again...seems to happen approximately once a month.
Has this spontaneous hard reset issue not happened to anyone else?
I suffered this audacious curse only to find that by removing my 1gig sd card remedied the problem.
I'm wondering if the sd card draws too much power/resources or whether I have a dodgy sd card.
Either way, without it I'm flying. I pop it in when I need to use my TomTom and as it's on charge in the car cradle it doesnt matter about resource usage etc.
So, try removing your sd card and see what goes
SD cards seem to be causing all sorts of problems. I kept getting the eternal spinning timer when copy, paste or deleting files, if the card was inserted. Did a soft reset today to be met with the calibration screen as from a hard reset. Such fun isnt it.
Hi Guys
Thanks very much for your comments. Unfortunately it isn't the cause as I have had my SD slot empty for a while now (my SD card is in my new car radio/MP3 player )
I'm starting to think that after 15 months my XDA2 has decided that it's had enough of the world. My colleague told me that it's seeking revenge as it's heard me salivate over its younger sister (the Universal).
As you say having the phone hard reset itself is a whole lot of fun!
I have the Sprite Back Up programe so all is not lost - it creates an exe file on the SD card that you locate and select thus restoring everything just how it was before it was lost
one can also just have activesync do an inc backup at each sync
and if the device hardresets one can connect as guest and restore the backup from ones normal profile
The nice thing about the Sprite software is that you can restore when you're out and about unlike the active sync method which means you need your pc close by
I need you guys help real bad. Went to go use my phone when I noticed there was a gap between icons on the bottom tray of the phone. I tapped the space there to see if it was something there with no icon, but nothing happened. I figured I'd soft reset to see if that icon would go away. Now my phone has been soft reseting itself over and over and over for the past half hour. I can't get into my phone now. It loads the T-Mobile screen, loads the Windows Mobile screen then shuts down and repeats the process. Please tell me there is something I can do to fix this. I need my phone.
If it matters, I had installed some software prior to this, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Thanks in advance.
Try removing your SD card if you have one installed then soft resetting. If not then I really have no advice & wish you luck!
As mrbelvedere stated removing the memory card(if you have one) might fix it. If not you might have to reflash your ROM. You can d this by going to Bootlader mode (Hold CAMERA button and reset with stylus.) and flashing like normal from there.
Haven't gotten a chance to try either of your suggestions yet (I'm still at work and left my phone home) ut if I have to reflash my ROM, what exactly does that entail? I'm pretty novice when it comes to things like this so if I do like stated above, is it a pretty straight foward self explainitory process? And am I correct in assuming that if I hard reset, I lose everything and start completely fresh?
Well, you guys both helped me and unfortunately the answer isn't good. Removing the storage card did the trick, it finally stopped continously rebooting. However, a few of the apps that would load off the SC didn't load (which I could probably fix later) but then another error would pop up and this one said "No language dat file". I would press the ok button but the phone would just lock up and freeze and I'd have to pull the battery just to shut it off. Tried it a few more times, same thing every time. Did a little research and it seems this is caused by having Fizz Weather installed on your SC, which, of course, I had did not to long ago. Every article I read basically said I need to do a hard reset to get rid of this problem. I'm resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to start fresh, which in a way is a good thing because I can start clean and not download all the bull I previously had on my Wing (I was a new app fiend!), but I do have a few quick questions if you'd be so inclined.
Also, I don't have a sync cable, just a memory card reader so I can't do any ActiveSync stuff.
1. I did have SPB Backup on there and do have about 2 recent backups, however all I really need off them is my contact info, because I would like to start fresh. After I hard reset, do I have to reinstall SPB Backup to run the backup, or can I run it on my fresh Wing with out it.
2. What do I do about my Storage Card? I know I can just copy my movies, music, tsk files and extra stuff to my computer but what about the program files of apps I installed to the storage card? Do I just delete that folder? Should I delete the whole card and start fresh there as well? How exactly does that work?
Sorry for all the questions, but this is my first time having to do a hard reset and I don't want to screw up my phone any worse than I apparently already have. Thanks in advance.

First off, I would get a data cable for your phone, and then get the latest version of ActiveSync. This way, you can transfer files easily, plus, you can backup all your data/contacts. Plus, if/when you want to flash to a better rom, it's easier this way. You are going to want to reformat your flash card. Just for the time being back up all files on your computer, and flash it that way. Doing a hard reset isn't difficult or bad, but you will lose all data stored on your phone. It just basically reinstalls the original operating system, so it will be like you turned it on for the first time. Do you know how to do a hard reset? After this is all said and done, I would start looking into flashing to a different rom. The one that comes stock on our phones SUCKS.
Yeah, I definitely will be looking into a data cable now. Ironically, I was just looking at docking stations with the cable attached right before my phone went down. As for the latest version of AS, do you mean for the PC or the phone? I figured I should clear the storage card as well, since nothing will be linked to it anymore. The only thing I'm really mad about is losing my contacts, but hopefully spb backup will fix that. I do know how to hard reset, was reading up on it all night. I'm going to do that, see if all goes well, if it does, I'm going to buy that docking station then probably ask you about flashing! Thanks again for the help.
Sorry to post again, but I have yet another question. My friend has this ( http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Mad-...oid/199058/catOid/0/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do ) and no longer uses it. It looks like the ports are the same as my Wing. Could I use that as a active sync cable?
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. Was looking for a HDMI cord in my junk wire box under the bed and, low and behold, what do I find? Not 1, not 2, but 3 usb sync cables! I'm such an idiot! I hard reset, lose everything and now I find the cables. Oh well, you live and you learn. Besides, I can start fresh and get into this flashing business.
Hi guys i wasnt quite sure where to put this thread but finnaly decided this forum was fine. I am sorta a newbie but have been reading loads. I think this website is awesome and i will probably donate!! Anyways i have been having a problem with my phone . It is a T mobile MDA Vario Uk IPL 1.06 and SPL 1.06 and WM5, OS 5.1.70 (if that matters)it died, i went to the tmobile shop they sent it to thier place but it came back unfixed. Anyway to make a long story short i turned out to be the charger but now a week back i have got it up and running again!! But when it freezes as it does everynow and then i have no choice but to take the battery out. When i turn it back on the date and time has gone back to November 2005! It does not do this when i turn it off by holding down the power switch. It also loses some tasks i have made . But wierdly not all the tasks. For example i had 4 tasks i took the battery out , when i restarted it the date went back to 2005 and only 1 task remained!. Is there some other way to put it of that i dont know about when it is frozen? Or am i just doomed to keep changing the date!
Thnak you very much for your replies and your time in advance.
Are you trying to soft reset the phone first? Are you trying to turn the phone all the way off? Removing the battery should be a last resort approach.
Here's the deal...
You can stave off a lot of these kind of memory/freezing problems in the future by loading some kind of RAM indicator (QuickMenu has a built-in one, can manage running programs, and gives you a Windows desktop-style start menu for programs instead of the dumb folder avalanche) to let you know you have too many programs running, and you need to do a soft reset every once in a while, or at least hibernate it periodically (you can do this from QuickMenu), just to jog it clean. It would also be wise for you to load a temporary file cleaner to clear out your temp files every once in a while...you'd be shocked how much crap piles up under the OS when you're not looking.
Lastly, since you might end up really losing some important data, I'd recommend getting DotFred's PIM backup tool and loading it on an SD card in your phone, and configure it to back up your phone regularly (like once a day at 2 am, for example). As long as the phone's left on, it'll do that for you, and if your phone really craps the bed, at least you'll have your contacts, meetings, and other info safe and sound.
Also, in the future, please add the info on your phone to your sig, so you don't have to repeat yourself 8,000 times, and you might want to try more descriptive titles for your topics than "Hey," unless you like being ignored...
Thank you Myrddin Wyllt but what did you mean by hibernating it ? do you mean just pushing the on/off button quickly so the screen goes of? oh yeah and thank you for all the advice on this forum i shal procede to do that now! Thnak you again
Yep i have done that now
upgrade your OS to at least WM6.
When I got my phone it had WM5 on it, and it used to lock up or spontaneously soft reset at least once a day, even though I soft reset it regularly. Since I upgraded to WM6 I no longer have these lockup problems.
thank you i was thinking about upgrading but wasnt sure! About the battery thing i just found out about the little hole on the side. I think this solves the problem . But about upgrading will it make my phone slower or take up precious memory or something? And the big question which one?? Also some apps i would like to have require .net framework 2.0. I tried installing it on my phone on the storage card , i had about 50mb free but it still said there is not enough space and told me to clear up space and start again! will upgrading my rom also solve this problem? Is WM6 just like WM5 what are the differences i am a beit of a newbie here! You might have to treat me like a child on this one!
Also i was wondering out of the 47.4mb internal memory of the MDA Vario how much is used by the system and how much crap have i got on? Also if i use "clear storage" then will it also get rid of programs i have installed on my memory card and i have unlocked my phone. Will it re-lock it and return the old crappy t-mobile themes?? (i have spb moble shell atm)
Thank you in advance!
Hi,
So I have an UnBranded Rogers X10a Phone
I have been having issues where the phone will freeze up go black screen (but you can see the backlight is on) and the two indicator lights come on. They go on and off with the power button being pressed. The only way to get the phone re-working is by battery pulling... I am running the Stock Home screen,
no taskkillers, and just Beautiful Widgets (Which has been force closing alot)
I have attempted a few factory resets including the Memory card but still running into the same issue...
Any Suggestions?
Try removing the widgets...

Thanx for the Suggestions
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the suggestions - I have tried removing the widgets, and a complete re-flash from SESU - Still no luck...
Hey, had to create an account just to answer your queries...
If you mean by the phone not able to 'wake up' from its sleep mode, I experienced the same thing for the past one month...
For my case, I started one saturday with my phone acting this way when I did a reboot after a full charge.
Same as your phone, mine suddenly couldn't wake up from its sleep. I thought is was just an ordinary freeze, so I took out the battery to reboot it once more.
After that, the problem didn't do away. With an attempted phonecall which triggered the proximity sensor to deactivate the screen display, the screen couldn't come back after ending the call. So the suspicion of lags or freezings were ruled out.
The phone was basically working, just that the display wouldn't appear. This was supported by the fact that the LED lights between the hard keys were still functioning, and the faint backlight on the screen hows that the phone is indeed working.
But the unlock screen just wouldn't show up.
So, without a choice, I sent it for servicing.
First attempt, the phone had a 'software upgrade' (just reinstallation of the software). Didn't help.
2nd attempt, the technicians replaced the receiver hardware. Didn't work either.
3rd attempt, they did another software upgrade (I have absolutely no idea why they tried that again since it didn't work on the first time).
4th attempt, they replaced the whole motherboard, and I got it back last night.
And you know what? The problem didn't go away. But I didn't send it back for servicing, since replacing the motherboard IS already a very last possible solution, as my X10 is as good as a new phone.
So obviously it's the user's problem.
So I did abit of testing on my own.
With the microsd card taken out, the phone was perfectly ok. I spammed the power button to stress-test the screen. No problem. But when I re-inserted my 16gb card, the sickening problem was back.
So I suspected it might be the card that's faulty. Naturally, I tried it with my 8gb card which came bundled with the phone. No problem. Until I moved my files into it.
Narrowing it down, obviously it's the contents that is affecting the phone.
So I did a step-by-step trial:
I removed the video folder, cos I have quite a number of movies inside. So I thought it's the sheer sizes of the files which is lagging the phone out.
Wrong.
Next, I removed the music files.
BINGO.
Phone was working fine. And to make sure, I put the videos back. Screen responding nicely.
To enact my theory, I just dragged and dropped my 1600+ wmas into the music folder.
Voila! Case closed. 20 hours have gone, and that idiotic problem never resurfaced.
So... What actually happened???
Well, as I recall, this whole escapade happened after I used Media Go to transfer my music to my phone.
And Media Go acts like iTunes - it sorts the files into different folders categorized by the artiste names. So essentially, almost a thousand of folders were created in the microsd card.
I guess it's the immense number of folders that's making the phone try to read from the folders, thus lagging it and preventing it to work before the screen goes back to sleep.
For me, cutting the number of folders helped.
Hope my method works for you too =)
And pardon my long-windedness (+_+)
Thanks loneLEE for making an account here & telling us about all that. It may help for many who have or will have such kind of problem Thanks
Thank You Soo Much
Lonnee Thank you so much for you information on that! I was going BONKERS. I had figured it was to do with the Media Card, as soon as I would remove it - the phone would work fine...
I almost had them swap out the phone as I was going STIR CRAZY trying to figure out what was going on!
It's good to know that I am not the only one...
