Beginning of the year my younger brother gave me his replaced HTC Touch from Telus (which I believe is the Vogue - correct me if I'm wrong). I used it for all of 2 weeks before it cracked in my pocket (huge rage moment).
I've got a Sapphire now, so it's cool, but I just found this busted phone. I still boots and I can hear sounds coming from it, but the screen is still toast (of course).
So, is there anything cool or fun or useful I can do with it? I'm not afraid of getting dirty or technical with it.
Here's a picture:

get a new screen?
Is it worth the cost? And where do I get one?
(I post before googling, mostly to get more responses, but off I go...)
I found a couple of replacement parts. I guess the screen for the Vogue and Elf are the same.
Now theres two things here:
OEM LCD Screen Display $50 US
https://www.gsm4world.us/htc-touch-oem-lcd-screen-display-d-01230_238.html
OEM LCD Digitizer/touch screen $20 US
https://www.gsm4world.us/htc-touch-oem-lcd-digitizer-touch-screen-d-01246_238.html
What's the difference? I'm fearful of the second one only being the touch input, and that I'd actually need to replace the screen, which is $50 US (and I'm in Canada - pushes it high enough not to be worth it).
Anyone got a broked model with a working screen they want to send me?
I was hoping I could do something without a screen. Like run a TF2 server or host a file share. (I hope you get the sarcasm)
you could sell it... check ebay for the lcd screen and you might save a little money.

Yeah, found this: http://cgi.ebay.ca/LCD-Screen-HTC-C...QptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item3a53e3cd35#payId
$35 US, shipping from China. I'll have to do more looking when I'm not in the office and get some time.
can you access the internal memory using active sync? if you can, you can place a .lnk of any program installed on your phone into the /windows/startup/ folder and have it run automatically on boot. trying to think of a program that would be useful without the screen, coming up with blanks right now.

Not sure, I've never done this before. Perhaps I'll try some of that this weekend. It's not really important for me, just something cool to do.
Screenless Device
interesting.. Lol.. I am in Canada looking for a Touch Vogue Cell (doesn't matter what provider as I am pretty sure they are all the same except for Roms and Wifi. )that I can use for parts.. My Touch sensor died, was hoping to get one that was mostly in tact as I can use the touch sensor and the Casing to fix mine.. If you want to be able to do stuff still you can actually, get ActiveSyc working and use My Mobiler and you can do everything you need to through a computer as well.. Is how I do most of my major stuff like txting and settings etc..
Just some random thoughts..
PM ME if you want to talk
I mostly just want to use it as a phone. I've got a Magic from Rogers that work pays for, but my girlfriend's phone is crap. I've seen screens for these things for about $50 around... I may try to take this apart and see if I can get the screen off. If I can, it may be worth a shot.
Are you saying you'd be interested in taking this shell off my hands? I'm pretty sure it's only the screen because I can turn it on and still here things and clicking and whatnot.
continuing on tatnai's thought....I guess you could set it up to act as an ipod shuffle listen to mp3's without a screen. you could have the music link boot from start and set it to be the only thing that runs and bam you have an mp3 player. Also can be used for a paper weight
Note that taking apart the Vogue is hard without the right equipment. You need a fivesided screwdriver (T5) as well as a plastic prying tool. I recently replaced my digitizer and it was fairly easy with these tools (they came with the new digitizer)
If you want a guide to disasembling the vogue, this is what I used.
http://mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/OSeven%27s%20Disassembly%20Guide%20to%20the%20HTC%20Touch%20-%20Elf%20.pdf
Hey, thanks a lot. I'll keep that guide handy. I don't have a plastic tool, but I should be able to make due with some other things around my tool box.
I personally thought my Vogue is one of the easier phones I've disassembled (had to air it out and redo the LCD flex - water damage). You just need a T5 which you've probably got in a screwdriver set somewhere.
Replacing the display itself would be *very* straightforward - disassemble, remove and reinsert one flex cable and two screws, and reassemble. You aren't going to get much out of it without a display, sadly.
As a note, I had the most trouble putting mine together because of the SD card door on the side - try not to let it fall off during disassembly as it's got some rubber tethers that are mildly tricky to put back. It's not exactly a disaster if it comes off though - it took me maybe 30 seconds. Was frustrating though.
Should be good as a card reader, microSD of course.
Get a big enough microSD card and it's a portable drive...slow and there're cheaper and/or faster alternatives...but something to brag about.

do you have a broken wizard you'd like to sell? simply put it under www.ebay.com and signal the broken wizard offer (THE LINK!) under this thread - specifying the type of defect.
There is a number of OTHER broken wizards (like mine!) that could be repaired by recovering parts from others. And very often we could repair more than one - so after you've repaired yours you could try to resell the remaining pieces.
So, anybody having a broken wizard: follow this thread and we will ALL save money!
As you know, the service manual is very detailed and allows easy replacement of many parts: screens, keyboards, mainboards, stylus holders...batteries!
anyway, we are not anymore under warranty....right?
Comments also welcome, since keep the thread high in the list...
Anything YOU NEED?
Hi,
all those in need of parts could also post here...i desperately need one LCD PCB - since the connector on the flat cable between the LCD and the PCB went bad and my display doesn't work anymore/ after months of shaky performances...THX
anybody got a screen around?need the lcd+digitizer. im not sure yet whether its a gold or black connection, will check later on, but just wondering if anyone has an lcd around..
where could i get the service manual?
anyone know where I can find a switch? Yes, a switch not the button. Long story
Hi,
I have for sale the LCD and touch screen. However, it's more complicated.
My touch screen was cracked but the LCD was good so I bought a new touch screen and tried to fixed it but I was not able to connect touch screen to the LCD (solder the tape?). So I quit and bought a new LCD with the touch screnn. So now I have an used LCD and a brand new touch screen for sale. If you are good in fixing things, I'm sure you will have fun
Let me know if you need some more information or pictures.
Peace,
Tom
I'm looking for a brand new full external case (the front frame with the Imate Logo on it) and a non scratched LCD preferably with a screen protector installed on it.

My son's Wizard/Cingular 8125 Died
I'll be listing my son's Cingular 8125 later on today on Ebay. It appears the motherboard went "belly up" on it. . . just 3 weeks out of warranty. At least -- from reading some other threads on the forums about the same type problems, that's what I'm surmising happened to it. It wasn't dropped, kicked, sat on, run over, etc., etc. -- it just shut down while he was on the Internet, never to be revived again. I tried switching out his battery with my fully-charged battery to rule that out and tried a few other ideas I found on the forums -- NADA.
No blinking LED when plugged into the wall charger and the PC gives me an error message that the "USB Device has malfunctioned" when plugging it up to the USB sync cable. He had been running the WM6 Underground Edition ROM for a little over 2 months without any problems. It's also one of the original G3 chip phones.
Thought I'd post on here before listing it to see if anyone is interested. PM me if you are.

What do you mean? Did the actual button break the one inside soldered to the board or just the case button that is used to press on the real button?
I broke the actual button trying to put the case back on and I got an old board I am desoldering the buttons from. If this is the case then I could probably send you one.

I just got this phone and I have read through the manual and looked at the picture of the cover off the phone in the quick start guide. Maybe I am retarded but sliding the phone up like it says in manual isnt doing anything. How can the battery cover for a phone be so hard, I am looking at my sim card and battery next to the phone right now and I'm like putting those 2 in the HTC hermes was no problem at all.
First device I have ever encountered where I couldnt even figure out how to open the battery cover to get the darned thing powered.
The Trinity is hard to open the first time but easier after that. The cover is tighter than other devices I have used. I suggest you cradle the device face down in the palm of one hand with fingertips holding each side and one finger just around the top edge. Then use the thumb of your other hand to push the back cover away from you pushing on the corner of the back cover near the USB connection.

No you are not retarded just push the cover up, it will be hard for the first time since everything is new but it becomes easier after couple of times.
Hold it in your left hand face down and puuuusssshhhh with the right.
pu pu pu pu pu push it good , ooh baby baby
When I went to the shop to test a Trinity the vendor tried for 20 minutes to open it. Finally I had to do a search on the web on his laptop to find out how to open the phone
haha
i also had some serious difficulties in opening the cover too... i was almost breaking a sweat...
yeah.... I was also cursing Dopod about the user manual that only has an arrow... Thinking they'd stuffed it and the product is just another product from the usual suspect manufacturing countries with poor documentation... Searched online, found nothing, then pushed real hard... Bit of a bastard that.
For anyone else who wants to read through some other (sometimes funny) experiences with the battery cover, look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283976
It was really embarrassing also for me, ... a computer specialist not
able to install the battery on a phone !!! ... It took me about 10 minutes,
several web searches, reading the manual chapter 3 times, trying to
discover some new messages .... until I gave a little bit more energy
trying to open it !
With the phone on the table, screen on the bottom, just move the back cover to the phone top.
Heh, so glad it's not just me..
Had the exact same problem, took me 20 mins. Of course, having spent the buxx on this, last thing I was going to do was force it! Had a bad experience with a $400 piece of electronic gear, within 20 mins of getting it was heading out to use it the first time and a.) fumble dropped it, just as I was walking and my foot was swinging out so b.) basically drop-kicked it down the sidewalk. Got some wonderful scratches all across the faceplate. All in the first 20 mins. Not going to do that again with anything if I can help it!
I find the cover fit a nice change to my previous phone - a Blackberry Pearl... it's cover would fall of by merely looking at it!

hahaha i like that one! cover would fall off just by looking at it! maybe you have telekenetic powers you didn't know about.
anyways i too had the same problem. it was obvious to me how to open the cover but god it was really stuck on tight. i spent 10 minutes trying to slide the damn cover and my fingers just kept sliding off the shiny new surface.
I hope this helps. I had problems openning it at first, but got instructions from my saler.
Basically put each hand on each side like you are praying, then slide in different directions. The cover should get off. Hope this helps.

okay i bought a hermes off ebay, ment to be scratched like u expect after a year in ya pocket.. it was SCRATCHED to hell like a sheet of sand paper was used on it, and somoen had written war and peace on it.
it was cheap so i thught i may as well pick up a new chassie for it, i did it arrived today, i had already watched the few videos about how to dismantle this phone (i am no stranger to doing this as i tend to repair my friends and ppl i knows mobiles and used to have a alpine that went through 2 lcd`s and 3 touch screens until i learned to look after it)
i carfuly stripped it down, replaced all the casing to a new jasjam case, and now the keyboard wont light up (ya i know about the light sensor) and the screen wont auto flip, but i can still use the keyboard just with a normal portate screen, i have tried hard resetting as i am still trying to find a rom i like and dont have any software installed.
is it the kb ribbon thats gone? and anyone know were i can get one in the uk? is there any way of manualy rotating the screen like on the alpine? as i can live with doing that until i get a fix.
I did the same, got a new case but I was lucky, it still works altough the blue light is always on.
To manual rotate the screen you assign a hardware button to it. Go to setting, buttons, select a button and the rotate screen from the program list.
Good luck

Amost certainly either the Keyboard ribbon cable or its connections (As you say). The magnet operated orientation sesnsor is built into the ribbon cable and is of course also linked to the keyboard open light up action.
BUT, I have seen this happen because the magnet has dropped off!!! It's a small metal oblong and does not look like a magnet.

OMG, I just found out the stock HTC case doesn't protect the touchscreen from being unlocked by accident. I have the HD2 in my jeans pocket and sometimes when I take it out the phone is swithced on and is unlocked. So I tried unlocking it while still in the case and it's easy to unlock by just pressing through the fake leather. I guess this is a good time to start searching for a nice sturdy case (pouch) with pulling strap in which it's IMPOSSIBLE to unlock your phone by accident.

No issues at all with the device unlocking in my pockey with the pouch - fits nice and snug
how the hell are you managing to unlock the device when its in the pouch?
that makes no sense at all.
The screen on the HD2 will not respond to anything other then a finger or capacative stylus.
If you know how capacative screens work then what you say is happening is actually impossible.
he means wake up from standby
Well, yeah it does that as it's tight around the buttons - still it won't unlock the device so nothing to worry about!
I put mine in the pouch top first, firstly it leaves the earphone socket free, secondly you don't have to take the case all the way off to use the phone, and thirdly it doesn't press on the buttons so much.

Try it before you start the lecture man. Pushing the power button through the pouch is easily done. Unlocking it wiping your finger over the pouch proved possible. Ofcourse this was only a test, but I've taken the phone out of the pouch and saw it unlocked twice in the 3 weeks I own it so somehow it seems possible the wiping is done by moving around in my pocket while still in the pouch.
The purpose of this thread is warning people the stock pouch doesn't protect a lot. In fact I think it sucks, though it's still better than nothing.
<edit>
I did some testing to see if I could unlock the screen without touching it directly:
Phone inside stock pouch: YES
Pouch placed on top of phone (2 layers of pouch between phone and finger): YES
Plactic overhead sheet on top of phone: YES
1 paper sheet (A4) on top of phone: YES
6 paper sheets on top of phone: YES
12 paper sheets on top of phone: YES
24 paper sheets on top of phone: YES
Stack of Post-its on top of phone (approx 15 sheets): YES
Booklet (15 pages, plastic cover, cardboard back): YES
New sealed stack of Post-its on top of phone: NO
Teabag (unused) on top of phone: NO
Aluminum foil & plastic bubblegum bag on top of phone: NO
he's right, after pressing the end button, you can actually unlock it by sliding your finger over the pouch.
maybe my screen is less sensetive than the one you have, i cant unlock my hd2 in the case, and no, i have not enabled bsb decrease sensetivity tweak. maybe thats something you could try?
I tried it too, and it did unlocked through the case. I have never had the issue of it unlocking while in my pocket though.
I am using 1.66 stock rom, with S2U2, and not enabled the BSB Tweak.
I've tested and after using the BsB Decrease Screen Sensitivity option it isn't possible anymore to unlock the screen through the pouch. 4 sheets seems to be no problem though.
I decided to go back to stock rom a few weeks ago after using Lineage, I obviously was an idiot because while the stock rom flashed perfectly as soon as there was an OTA update it went into the bootloop, couldn't flash it as the bootloader is locked.
Tried using ABD fastboot but it wouldn't unlock the bootloader, the mi unlock tool wouldn't do it either.
I now have an EDL cable but can't seem to get the phone into EDL mode to flash it. I connect the cable to the PC, press the button and plug into phone, the phone simply goes boots to the normal charging screen that presents when you plug it in whilst the phone is off. Nothing shows up in device manager etc.
Anyone help me unbrick it?

If EDL Cable is not working, try "test point" method. It will definitely work.

Thanks, that was the next step, which did work, but I've damaged it taking it apart. So all a bit pointless in the end!

Not really sure what I've damaged either since it doesnt seem to be a part of the screen or back plate. So not sure if it's worth getting it repaired.
I damaged my phone too yesterday while I was trying to open it so I could unbrick it but I don't care. Having a working phone (the way I want it) is more important than having one with stock Pie in immaculate condition.

It's called "middle frame housing/chassis" which holds all the components together like display, motherboard, sub board, battery etc. You have chipped off the plastic bezel/border of the housing that surrounds the display and protect it from breaking during fall.
It will not affect the functionality of the phone but will definitely make a big dent in your pocket if your phone falls from your hand / pocket.
I will suggest you to replace the middle frame as soon as possible and until then use it with extreme care or with a good quality case.
You can find it on Aliexpress or from your local spare parts dealer. It will cost you around 5-7USD.
P.S. : Don't try to do it yourself, get help from a technician(2-3USD) as they separate the lcd and frame using heat of lcd-glass separator machine.

Thanks, it's okay the price they'd charge to replace it would be around £60 here, even if I supplied the part, I can buy a new one for £60ish on ebay so it's not worth it.
I ordered the Note 8, the plan was to pass thr Mi A1 on to someone but I'll just write it off.

£ 60 is too much for this. Here in India I can get it done at just INR 100 which is equivalent to around £ 1.05
