OMG, I just found out the stock HTC case doesn't protect the touchscreen from being unlocked by accident. I have the HD2 in my jeans pocket and sometimes when I take it out the phone is swithced on and is unlocked. So I tried unlocking it while still in the case and it's easy to unlock by just pressing through the fake leather. I guess this is a good time to start searching for a nice sturdy case (pouch) with pulling strap in which it's IMPOSSIBLE to unlock your phone by accident.

No issues at all with the device unlocking in my pockey with the pouch - fits nice and snug
how the hell are you managing to unlock the device when its in the pouch?
that makes no sense at all.
The screen on the HD2 will not respond to anything other then a finger or capacative stylus.
If you know how capacative screens work then what you say is happening is actually impossible.
he means wake up from standby
Well, yeah it does that as it's tight around the buttons - still it won't unlock the device so nothing to worry about!
I put mine in the pouch top first, firstly it leaves the earphone socket free, secondly you don't have to take the case all the way off to use the phone, and thirdly it doesn't press on the buttons so much.

lol, you might as well say 'how are you going to see the phone if the screen is damaged!?'
What a silly question, i won't of course, i'll be claiming on insurance.

yes it is a silly question that aimed to highlight your seemingly lack of care over your phone after just months. why go through the hassle of insurance when you could just take the advice? my message didnt convey so it doesnt matter now.
so what is the point of this thread again??

Try it before you start the lecture man. Pushing the power button through the pouch is easily done. Unlocking it wiping your finger over the pouch proved possible. Ofcourse this was only a test, but I've taken the phone out of the pouch and saw it unlocked twice in the 3 weeks I own it so somehow it seems possible the wiping is done by moving around in my pocket while still in the pouch.
The purpose of this thread is warning people the stock pouch doesn't protect a lot. In fact I think it sucks, though it's still better than nothing.
<edit>
I did some testing to see if I could unlock the screen without touching it directly:
Phone inside stock pouch: YES
Pouch placed on top of phone (2 layers of pouch between phone and finger): YES
Plactic overhead sheet on top of phone: YES
1 paper sheet (A4) on top of phone: YES
6 paper sheets on top of phone: YES
12 paper sheets on top of phone: YES
24 paper sheets on top of phone: YES
Stack of Post-its on top of phone (approx 15 sheets): YES
Booklet (15 pages, plastic cover, cardboard back): YES
New sealed stack of Post-its on top of phone: NO
Teabag (unused) on top of phone: NO
Aluminum foil & plastic bubblegum bag on top of phone: NO
he's right, after pressing the end button, you can actually unlock it by sliding your finger over the pouch.
maybe my screen is less sensetive than the one you have, i cant unlock my hd2 in the case, and no, i have not enabled bsb decrease sensetivity tweak. maybe thats something you could try?
I tried it too, and it did unlocked through the case. I have never had the issue of it unlocking while in my pocket though.
I am using 1.66 stock rom, with S2U2, and not enabled the BSB Tweak.
I've tested and after using the BsB Decrease Screen Sensitivity option it isn't possible anymore to unlock the screen through the pouch. 4 sheets seems to be no problem though.

the "shadow" is visible only with che screen off, and it's not of the screen protector....i removed it yet!
it appears only some times, not every...
what could it be?!?
Thanks!
Hi, I also have this on mine. I had one spot, but now it have been split into two smaller spots. I'm not sure what it is, seems like some kind of liquid??. When I press my finger on it, it floats around. I'll be happy if anyone can explain what this is. Maybe my dear Trinity needs a service ?.
i sent an email to the htc support with the photo of the problem...waiting for an answer!
It looks like liquid between the digitizer and the LCD.
you need send Trinity to assistance... your lcd screen need to be changed
little bit of advice, send it via the retailer you purchased from. Not direct to HTC. Retailers (in my experience) can get a little funny if you bypass them.
but,it comes an goes randomly...for example, yesterday night it was there and from this morning until now there's nothing...
could be the magnet of htc case
you can explain better?
my english isn't good, but the clip magnet of the case have a little attraction also inside the case... so maybe a magnet a little bit more "power" **** your touchscreen... pda should put into case always with touchscreen beside magnet because battery take a good shield and you haven't problems... but in your case it's late. I think it's the magnet of case that broke your touchscreen... check if direction of touchscreen problem is the same of Clip
here the answer of the htc team:
"Dear Sir,
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe support.
With regards to your query, it is a possible fault with the handset. I would advise that you contact your retailer. However if they are unable to assist please respond and we will assist you further."
I dont know to express right in english, but i try: If you go from a warm humid place to a cold place water in the air is condensing (!?)) on surface (like in winter on thin windows) that could explain why this happens only sometimes.

Moisture is the possible problem. I had a SonyEricsson P800 that I dropped in the lake. It had the same type of discoloration, only worse because it was IN the lake. It finally dried out and even worked but there were always little bubbles (minerals) in between the plastic touch membrane and the LCD screen. Try putting your phone in a slightly warm dry place overnight.
Ok,thank you.
This morning i have put the P3600 in a packing with 4 envelop of "silican gel",anti-moisture.... what you think about this?

probably best to stick it in the airing cupboard. That would be nice n warm.
At my work, our engineers keep getting pentablets wet (when it rains - they use them as an umbrella), I advise them to stick it in the airing cupboard, and it works a treat.
Hi guys,
I have this phone for more than a month and I have exaclty the same problem.
I went back to my retailer and when I showed the screen there was nothing !!
Yes it is definitively random.
But I am not sure this is not linked to the protection. I noticed this problem after I put the protection and even if there is still the problem when you put off the protection, it seems to disappear after a while.
So my question is : is there a guy having this issue and who has never used a protection ? And if you remove your protection, is it totally disappearing or not after a while ?
One last thing, when you have the problem have you try to remove partially the protection ? On my screen the shadow becomes bigger !!
EDIT : I Have a new case (noreve) with a magnet button at the bottom (so not on the screen) and I still have the problem
hi!
well, i start to think that there's a link with the screen protector (i have a brando ultra clear). Could be that the the screen protector with his electrostatic power attracts too much the "touch screen" creating separation from the lcd screen?
Because thinking about, there was no problem until i try to install the screen protector...we should try to uninstall the screen protector for some days, and look if the problem comes back...
This is my protection :
http://www.covertecstore.com/fr/t-s...00-t-mobile-mda-compact-screen-protector.html
I think there was two kind of protection, one ultra clear and the other ultra ....
You can do the test to remove the screen protection for few days and check if you still have the problem.

I'm testing what you said...tomorrow i will tell you what has happened...
did you try to remove che screen protection for few days???
News:
without screen protector, there isn't the problem...
so,i think there are two possible options:
1)the screen protector ,with his electrostatic power, attracts too much the "touch screen" creating a little separation from the touch screen and the lcd screen;
2)when I removed the screen protector with the scotch,i involuntarily raise the touch screen from the lcd favoring the exit of the moisture that probably had entered some time before.
What you think?Did you try to uninstall the screen protector?
I just got this phone and I have read through the manual and looked at the picture of the cover off the phone in the quick start guide. Maybe I am retarded but sliding the phone up like it says in manual isnt doing anything. How can the battery cover for a phone be so hard, I am looking at my sim card and battery next to the phone right now and I'm like putting those 2 in the HTC hermes was no problem at all.
First device I have ever encountered where I couldnt even figure out how to open the battery cover to get the darned thing powered.
The Trinity is hard to open the first time but easier after that. The cover is tighter than other devices I have used. I suggest you cradle the device face down in the palm of one hand with fingertips holding each side and one finger just around the top edge. Then use the thumb of your other hand to push the back cover away from you pushing on the corner of the back cover near the USB connection.

No you are not retarded just push the cover up, it will be hard for the first time since everything is new but it becomes easier after couple of times.
Hold it in your left hand face down and puuuusssshhhh with the right.
pu pu pu pu pu push it good , ooh baby baby
When I went to the shop to test a Trinity the vendor tried for 20 minutes to open it. Finally I had to do a search on the web on his laptop to find out how to open the phone
haha
i also had some serious difficulties in opening the cover too... i was almost breaking a sweat...
yeah.... I was also cursing Dopod about the user manual that only has an arrow... Thinking they'd stuffed it and the product is just another product from the usual suspect manufacturing countries with poor documentation... Searched online, found nothing, then pushed real hard... Bit of a bastard that.
For anyone else who wants to read through some other (sometimes funny) experiences with the battery cover, look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=283976
It was really embarrassing also for me, ... a computer specialist not
able to install the battery on a phone !!! ... It took me about 10 minutes,
several web searches, reading the manual chapter 3 times, trying to
discover some new messages .... until I gave a little bit more energy
trying to open it !
With the phone on the table, screen on the bottom, just move the back cover to the phone top.
Heh, so glad it's not just me..
Had the exact same problem, took me 20 mins. Of course, having spent the buxx on this, last thing I was going to do was force it! Had a bad experience with a $400 piece of electronic gear, within 20 mins of getting it was heading out to use it the first time and a.) fumble dropped it, just as I was walking and my foot was swinging out so b.) basically drop-kicked it down the sidewalk. Got some wonderful scratches all across the faceplate. All in the first 20 mins. Not going to do that again with anything if I can help it!
I find the cover fit a nice change to my previous phone - a Blackberry Pearl... it's cover would fall of by merely looking at it!

hahaha i like that one! cover would fall off just by looking at it! maybe you have telekenetic powers you didn't know about.
anyways i too had the same problem. it was obvious to me how to open the cover but god it was really stuck on tight. i spent 10 minutes trying to slide the damn cover and my fingers just kept sliding off the shiny new surface.
I hope this helps. I had problems openning it at first, but got instructions from my saler.
Basically put each hand on each side like you are praying, then slide in different directions. The cover should get off. Hope this helps.

Not sure why but my u key requires a hard press that other keys don't.
I tried compressed air but it didn't help.
Its the only button I have trouble with.
Pressing it lots of times doesn't help either.
Suggestions?
i have the same problem with my "E" Key
if anyone has a fix for it thatd be wonderful
because im so accustomed to pressing a key, and hearing the click, so i go on to hit the next one
just to realize my E didnt hit
I have the same problem with "O" key lol
Still havent found a solution.
I am having the same problem with "u" key. Tried running the cingular keyboard fix. Didn't work
Never occurred to me that it might be software related. I just assumed it was hardware.
lol the cingular keyboard fix doesnt fix that
its for if you install say, the official Dopod WM6 Rom to your Cingular 8525, the key layout isnt the same, so the fix puts the right layout number into the registry
no software can correct a hardware problem

i tried to get the back face plate off...
and now the slider thingy to the battery cover is stuck in place?
anyone have that problem? and how can i get that completely closed? coz it looks like the back just didnt close all the way?
UPDATE
i took it completely apart - took the keyboard out - the circuit board and the membrane - blew on it
put my phone back together
and viola! the E works FINE! =)
theres a fix...but no more warranty lol
i'm gonna waint another year so my warranty voids and then take it apart lol
Thanks for the info
Correction
it was working perfectly for a few hours
and right back to the harder presses...grr
ive already taken it apart 5 times since yesterday lmao
because first the PTT button didnt line up right
then the Camera MACRO adjustment wasnt aligned
then the back cover release didnt line up
then the bottom clip wouldnt snap into place...but that was because of the back cover release
so yeah now ive got it working as if i had never touched it....lmao
buuttt...im thinking of taking it all apart and spraypainting it Flat Black?
i think thatd look pretty dayumm sweeet
interesting...
the entire keypad is a single strand.
I thought about popping up a single key but they are connected.
yepp - one large membranee
This practical solution applies only to those situations where one or a few keys are unresponsive.
It DOES NOT apply to a general unresponsiveness of the keyboard where all keys are slow to respond or "laggy" (this would more likely be a software related problem/low memory/too many running progs etc).
Right...... for a long time I have meant to investigate the keyboard and its problem keys.
It has all become clear.
The keyboard does NOT use a conductive rubber membrane - Which would in my view have been better, though would not have the key press clicks.
The Keyboard does use small isolated concave metal disks, stuck on a white plastic film that in turn sticks to the board.
The major problem with metal is the oxidation layer that forms on the surface. Repeated pressing of the keys may keep the oxides away but not reliably.
So if you are brave you can peel back the sticky white film with the disks on it - at least until you get to the problem key and clean the disk. A wipe will not be enough, you will need to use something more abrasive and be careful not to get greasy fingers on the sticky film. A fiddly and rather tricky job - but possible.
I advise you NOT to peel the white plastic layer completely off. If you do you may find it difficult to line it up accurately after cleaning!!

I suggest cleanning the contacts (including the disks with a small piece of steel wool.
I will not supply a dismantling guide here. There are plenty around. See my signature website for links to some and the Service Manual.

Screw it.
i'll just buy a Kaiser.
What happens when my space bar V,G,T key don't work. I have replaced both the keyboard and the membrain. The same keys are still not working. I was wondering if it could be the ribbon cable, so I replaced that to. Same story, no keys working. Now where should I start looking? It has not gotten wet nor have I dropped it.
Thanks
Does opening up the phone void the warranty?
How would HTC know?
Yes, there is a "Void if removed" sticker covering a screw you need to remove. Check out the HTC service manual (use the search function) or go to Mike Channon's web page. You'll find HOW to take your Hermes apart and put back together again, and as a bonus, it may still work....
Cheers...
okay i bought a hermes off ebay, ment to be scratched like u expect after a year in ya pocket.. it was SCRATCHED to hell like a sheet of sand paper was used on it, and somoen had written war and peace on it.
it was cheap so i thught i may as well pick up a new chassie for it, i did it arrived today, i had already watched the few videos about how to dismantle this phone (i am no stranger to doing this as i tend to repair my friends and ppl i knows mobiles and used to have a alpine that went through 2 lcd`s and 3 touch screens until i learned to look after it)
i carfuly stripped it down, replaced all the casing to a new jasjam case, and now the keyboard wont light up (ya i know about the light sensor) and the screen wont auto flip, but i can still use the keyboard just with a normal portate screen, i have tried hard resetting as i am still trying to find a rom i like and dont have any software installed.
is it the kb ribbon thats gone? and anyone know were i can get one in the uk? is there any way of manualy rotating the screen like on the alpine? as i can live with doing that until i get a fix.
I did the same, got a new case but I was lucky, it still works altough the blue light is always on.
To manual rotate the screen you assign a hardware button to it. Go to setting, buttons, select a button and the rotate screen from the program list.
Good luck

Amost certainly either the Keyboard ribbon cable or its connections (As you say). The magnet operated orientation sesnsor is built into the ribbon cable and is of course also linked to the keyboard open light up action.
BUT, I have seen this happen because the magnet has dropped off!!! It's a small metal oblong and does not look like a magnet.

Hey there,
i've had my jade for about a week and i've come across three issues concerning the casing.
Issue #1: On the bottom of the Touchscreen, under the htc logo, just above the d-pad, there is a small bump which can be seen when looking at the screen's reflections.
Issue #2: The battery cover doesnt fit perfectly, on the left side it's perfectly flush but in the right side it sticks out a very small bit, but you can feel it when holding it in your hand, maybe because of that
Issue #3: When applying gentle pressure on that left side of the battery cover, it creaks. It really doesnt take much, it usually happens when writing sth with both thumbs and it is really annoying and gives the phone a low-quality impression.
I just wanted to ask if someone has come across the same or similar issues here, so i can find out if i got that one in a thousand and get a better one when returning mine...
#1: Not here
#2: Yes, only a very small bit. Doesn't bother me that much.
#3: I never noticed this until I tried it after your post. Doesn't bother me because it never happens when I use it.
I guess it could be worse.
Can someone please reply to my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=463365 regarding the sound click issue ?
thanks for the answer, i just ordered myself a new one for comparing...
1/ Yes very slightly.
2/ Yes.
3/ No.

But there are three important things made me disapointed..
1- Very bad operation of opening and closing of Back cover..
2- Nonhandy perimeter (chrome stripe) of the device.
3- Unreachable Softreset switch w/o opening back cover.
Near Perfect

Been using my black Jade for over 3 mnths now. love it. No defect detected yet. I think lilithpro's set is one of those that manage to sneak pass the QA team.
I think the designers forgot to put a hole on the backcover for easy soft reset.
The only problem I have is that I need to remove the back cover in order to change the mSD card or to perform a soft reset.
Ah, and of course that there is no Hard-SPL available so that I can flush the English ROM!.....

It seems like some others' sets have the same problems. Doesnt seem like an isolated issue.
I resolved it by ordering a new one, exchanging back covers, and returning the new one. Now the back cover fits perfectly, without any gaps and sounds. The little bump still exists, but doesnt bother me much.
I never open the back cover, the sim and µsd-card remain in the device, since the transfer speed via activesync and mass storage is really fast (it was horribly slow on activesync with my palm treo pro, and mass storage wasnt available), so the back cover is no problem for me.
