My stylus fell out of the phone a few times, a couple times when I had it in my pocket and once when I picked the phone up off my desk to answer a call. I didn't really notice it falling out I just noticed it later when I reached for it and it wasn't there. It's really weird because I put it back in and the magnet is still working so I don't know how it just slides out. Does anyone else's do this?
Mine has never fell out, its magnetic so its never done that...strange yours did.
It also fell out today when I had my phone in the cupholder in my car. Didn't notice until I was inside and then spent 20 minutes trying to find it.
Is it the original stylus you're using? Some "replacement" ones are just plastic so the magnetic "hold" doesn't work on them

OMG THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME ALSO. TWICE! and it took ages to find it under the seat. My opinion is that the stylus got caught on the rim of the cupholder when taking ur phone out, and it slide out
Well, well, don't be astonished, magnets lose their memory over time and the unlucky spot HTC chose for the stylus slot will teach you that lesson eventually. A simple replacement stylus should do it, AFAIR a second stylus comes packaged with Touch HD... Mine hasn't fallen out yet ...
When i got my replacement HD i realised how much magnetism my stylus had lost. So yeh.. over time the magnet gets pretty weak.
That's stupid, it never does that on my Diamond.
today i lost my stilus in this way. now, i looking for the second in the package :-(
Had my device for over a year, no issues what-so-ever with stylus. Suggest you replace stylus and test magnetism.

I had only used my stylus once since I had one from my old Palm Treo. One day I just noticed a blank space where it used to be, don't know when or where it fell out.

Woke up yesterday morning and found my Exec on the floor. It had apparently dropped two feet from the bedside table onto the hard wooden flooring.
To cut a long story short. It wouldn't switch on, wouldn't respond to soft or hard reset and I'll now have to send it back to O2. It can't be that fragile, can it?
impossible but depends on how hard your floor realy is. My xda exec nearly falls everyday as i use it as a bedside alarm clock. Althogh i do have carpet though.
Any obvious signs of impact? They may refuse to fix it if they can tell it's been neglected :-(

Thankfully it's been well taken care of. I should be fine on that front. With regards to the first reply, I wish you were right but it refuses to switch on at all, battery inserted, battery out, hard reset, soft reset, power button. And THEN I found that it will go through POST (or the PPC equivalent) where you see the O2 water drop if I take out the SD card, but will promptly switch itself off again. This is not repeatable.
So, it is possible, unfortunately.
I have thrown mine round our works car park on many occasion lol
and apart from a few scuffs is fine. supprised a fall from your bedside table killed it.
open up the device (you should find the service manual somewhere around the forums) and ensure everything is fine...
It is possible that one of your data connector cables might have just pulled off....

anyone else have the philosophy that the magnet on the case (that which holds the flap to the case) will mess up the mda/wizard...i have not used my case yet because of this rumor....any thouhgts on this?
thanks
The MDA doesn't have any kind of magnetic media in it (HD or Floppy) so the magnets wont cause problems. I would be concerned about putting something like an ipod in that case, since the ipod has a HD.
it has magnets that tell the device whether it is open or closed so if you use magnet case the screen can turn landscape automatically.
I have kept my phone in the case every day for the past 9 months..... no problems so far.
Thanks

I was wondering why my wizard was "flipping" almost always I took him out of the case..
Never thought about the magnets though..
Ah ha, one of lifes little mysteries solved!
The protective cover on my front camera has disappeared! Given that I haven't even dropped the phone, this is vaguely annoying! I'm sure it won't come to much harm, but anyone know where I can find another?
My Ameo is now getting WM6; for some reason it went into a mad rebooting cycle lately and refused to work reliably before, eventually, locking up entirely. Attempting to access messages or similar resulted in a locked-up phone with spinning progress wheel.
Very annoyed about that, it's going to take ages to get it all the way I liked it.
spooky mine has also disappeared. Have only dropped mine twice. Both on the same eve (excess alcohol). Although hammered asssumed that i would have noticed things flying off.

oh wow... i hadn't noticed my lens was missing until after new year's eve also... my phone was perfectly fine on the eve of, but i guess a little too much Patron had something to do with that...
Same for me, I don`t know when. Thinking of going to a glazier to see if they can cut a small pice of glass.
BTW, I have also lost the small rubber thing on the joystick but this I have repaired with the eraser from a pencil (the one with lead) Cut the top of and glued it on the joystick.

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has fully dismantled an X1 - and if so, do you know if there are water indicator stickers on the inside of the phone?
So far, I can see two on the outside (one on the battery itself and the other where the battery contacts are on the phone itself)
Thanks in advance!
some where on youtube there is a vid on dismanteling an Xperia

Thank you!
It doesn't appear to have any on the inside.. however I'm not sure if the 3 rectangular white things on http://www.phonewreck.com/wiki/images/thumb/a/a8/Xperia_x1_pcb_2.jpg/800px-Xperia_x1_pcb_2.jpg are teh same as the water indicators on the outside.
Yes Dismantled it.
Mine fell down. Touch stopped working and so did the finger scroll sensor. The touch worked in landscape but in portrait it wont work.
Opened it and found the connector slide cable (similar to ones in samsung slide phones) unplugged. Guess the shock of the fall made it stick out.
Anyways plugged it back in and whoa....Phone was as good as new.
For thoe whose touchscreen stop working, I suggest please first try the "BOAN" method. (Battery off all night). Insert the battery in the morning and the screen works miraculously.

Or make a hard reset may i add...
Or full flash instead thats worked for me...
Hard Reset did not solve my probem though. I tried flashing to Generic R2a0010 as well. Did not work.
One more thing before i tried the BOAN methodm was inserting a visiting card between the screen and the casing especially the four corners to wipe out the dirt. beleive me, its the small particles that pile up and sometimes pressurize a particular point disrupting the touch mechanism. I got my X1i only 20 days back, and i stay home or office and believe me there was enough dirt residing in the corners. I was actually surprised why they had such a big gap between the screen and the casing.
Anyways, since i did the flash, I flashed mine with the latest R3A0010. All's well in my x1 except that custom ringtones are not loud enough.
Hi,
It never happened to my Shift before but I never travelled with it till now.
I used to use the Shift in UK with no issues but I am on holiday in Rio (38 degrees Celcius right now) and every time I use the Shift it gets very hot to keep it on my lap.
Once, it shut itself down with no warning and I thought it was the battery but it was not. Then I noticed that, while on my lap, the vents were been covered and now I cannot find a position to hold it that is comfortable and does not block the vents. And holding it up in the air for long periods of time is not comfortable (I am very little!) and if I want to use the keyboard I have to use it on a desk or table which makes it not a very mobile option.
I wish designers would think of such things as vent positioning when designing essential parts of equipment. It would save so much grief!
Does it happen to anybody else, or is it just me?
Thanks from very, very hot Rio.
Overheated Shift
Happened to mine for the first time ever, had it on my lap,
airvents probably covered, and kapfiewwww it shuts down
to completely off.
Now I discovered my headphone jack doesn't work, when
I plug in earpieces, the sound shuts down trough the
speakers, but no rerouted sound to the headphones, pull it out,
speakers give normal sound again... strange...
Anybody ever had this?
Kind regards from a snowy Belgium
Freakydile
just happened exactly like woven. luckily it has overheat control
yeah same here just learned to keep it vented most of the time the protective case it comes with dose well with this
My solution!
It happened to me when I tried to use it on a irregular surface like a bed. As everyone has figured out, the ventilation areas are blocked and the device seems to have no alternative but to suddenly shut down... At first, I got surprised but then I eventually found a solution:
Now I simply use it with my proporta leather case, since it has custom designed holes that allow ventilation (and a couple of plastic furniture feet I decided to glue one day), creating enough space between any surface and the actual device...
Another solution if you rather want to hook it to a big monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse, is a glass table and no case...
Ohh by the way, leaving it on inside a bag pack also causes it to overheat, unless it is on WinMo only!!
Try using yr shift sitting on top of a rectangular plastic tray , ( u can get it at any supermarket anywhere , bring yr shift to test it out first before buying ) , the tray's height is about 2 to 3 inches high , it is best using it on yr table , but for lap or bed , then u need some balancing act - cheers - jimmunsw
