mda carrying case-magenets - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

anyone else have the philosophy that the magnet on the case (that which holds the flap to the case) will mess up the mda/wizard...i have not used my case yet because of this rumor....any thouhgts on this?
thanks

The MDA doesn't have any kind of magnetic media in it (HD or Floppy) so the magnets wont cause problems. I would be concerned about putting something like an ipod in that case, since the ipod has a HD.

it has magnets that tell the device whether it is open or closed so if you use magnet case the screen can turn landscape automatically.

I have kept my phone in the case every day for the past 9 months..... no problems so far.

Thanks

Krusell Quick Mounter

Hi Guys,
I bought one of these and as "good" as it may seem, just warning you off, or at least giving you notice.
The magnet affects the phone and operates the screen by it's self.
Well, that's a little miss leading. What it does is I think, is tell the phone that you have opened the slide.
So depending on your settings, whenever you attach the phone it will either unlock it, open the dialer, read your sms messages or start pressing the soft keys.
Apart from the ridiculously poor delivery (1st class postage arrive 7 days after shipping. A parcel from US came quicker" ) that I don't know whether to blame on them or Royal Mail, I must of got the one adapter with no bloody adhesive on the back! Industrial sticky tape needed, that's if I decide I can live with the unlocking!
*mods* Really sorry, I didn't notice the "accessories" thread. I only hang out in this one, I've only just noticed it.
Sorry to hear you are not very happy with this, i've had one for a while and i reckon its one of the best i've had. as well as being small and discreet the magnet holds the pda even when driving down dirt tracks and over speed bumps.
The magnet does occasionally set off the quick list but it has already been mentioned on this forum that it is activated by magnet it just depends where you put the adapter
i dont know about you guys but im keeping magnets well away from my device.

Do you have a Dual then? Where is your strip to attached the magnet?
After a bit of experimentation, if you place the strip horizontal just underneath the camera (in the center) then the magnet wont set off the phone!
Now I've fixed it with my own tape I'm really happy with it!
i've got mine right in the middle, covering the orange logo, after playi g with it a bit last night it seems to depend a lot on how quickly you move the dual towards the magnet and whether you go staraight towards it or come in from an angle. one thing i havent tried is disabling the quick menu, will give it a go later as i never use it anyway

8525 defaulting to landscape

My 8525 has a small problem that's been lingering. Everytime I hit the power button (to wake it up, not power up), it has defaulted to landscape mode and after a few seconds resolves back to normal.
It's a bigger problem when I get a phone call, because I cannot answer the call (soft keys won't work) until it switch back to normal view.
I haven't tried uninstalling all of my program to see which one is causing the conflict problem, but would prefer not to do that. I have stuff like RL today, SPB, Google bar, etc running on my today screen.
Anyone else have this problem or have a suggestion on any settings I can look into to try to fix this?
Thanks!

Most likely because you keep it in a pouch with magnetic catches. The screen orientation switch is magnetically operated and drawing it out of the pouch (or even just sitting in it) can operate the switch.

Wow. I never heard of that before. And I do keep my 8525 in a BodyGlove pouch with a magnetic clasp.
But it didn't have this problem before I upgraded to a cooked ROM and added a bunch of programs though.
I'll experiment keeping it out of the pouch and see if it solves the problem or not and let you know.
Thanks.

Well you can test whether it's the case or not. Does it ever do it when it's not been in the case - maybe overnight or just try leaving it out of the case to see if it ever goes to landscape. You could temporarily try a different method of carrying it around - not trouser/pants pocket though Hermes doesn't like that at all.
If you pass the magnets on the pouch around the case, you'll soon find the location of the magnet operated switch.

I did try holding the 8525 next to my case and you're right, the magnet in it is triggering the phone to switch to landscape mode, so that has to be the culprit. Good call there.
I guess I need to find a new case with a snap or velcro or something...

Does anyone else's stylus fall out?

My stylus fell out of the phone a few times, a couple times when I had it in my pocket and once when I picked the phone up off my desk to answer a call. I didn't really notice it falling out I just noticed it later when I reached for it and it wasn't there. It's really weird because I put it back in and the magnet is still working so I don't know how it just slides out. Does anyone else's do this?
Mine has never fell out, its magnetic so its never done that...strange yours did.
It also fell out today when I had my phone in the cupholder in my car. Didn't notice until I was inside and then spent 20 minutes trying to find it.
Is it the original stylus you're using? Some "replacement" ones are just plastic so the magnetic "hold" doesn't work on them

OMG THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME ALSO. TWICE! and it took ages to find it under the seat. My opinion is that the stylus got caught on the rim of the cupholder when taking ur phone out, and it slide out
Well, well, don't be astonished, magnets lose their memory over time and the unlucky spot HTC chose for the stylus slot will teach you that lesson eventually. A simple replacement stylus should do it, AFAIR a second stylus comes packaged with Touch HD... Mine hasn't fallen out yet ...
When i got my replacement HD i realised how much magnetism my stylus had lost. So yeh.. over time the magnet gets pretty weak.
That's stupid, it never does that on my Diamond.
today i lost my stilus in this way. now, i looking for the second in the package :-(
Had my device for over a year, no issues what-so-ever with stylus. Suggest you replace stylus and test magnetism.

I had only used my stylus once since I had one from my old Palm Treo. One day I just noticed a blank space where it used to be, don't know when or where it fell out.

Nexus 7's "smart cover" feature

I just received a cheap case for temporary use until I get an actual one, but the case claims to have the "smart cover" feature where the magnets put the tablet to sleep. However, the tablet doesn't go to sleep. I tried using a fridge magnet and running it along the screen as I've seen it done in videos before, but that doesn't even work. Is mine defective? Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks
You're sure that you're putting the magnet on the right spot?
Well I ran a magnet all the way around the 4 sides and it doesn't shut off. It's "supposedly" on the left side right?
Yeah, it's on the bezel just left of the screen somewhat near the bottom. Make sure that you're placing the magnet exactly where they put it in the videos.
Okay I played around with it, a kitchen magnet does nothing. The case does nothing. Weird thing is, when the tablet is not in the case, I can use one of the magnets in the cover and it'll work. I've tried many other magnets and none work. The case itself seems messed up as the magnet is on the outside edge (right side) and not on the left. Does it only work with certain magnets?
As far as detecting magnetism goes, it's only the strength that matters, so maybe your non-working magnets aren't strong enough and therefore the sensor can't detect the presence of a magnet?
Yeah I considered that, but I tried several different ones but no go. Although the magnets on the case that holds the case closed does work. The thing is, those two magnets that hold the case closed are on the right side of the tablet, whereas the sleep is on the left side. I'm going to email the seller about this and hopefully it can be dealt with. At least I know that it works...

Case that turns screen on automatically

I have this case that somehow, when opened, turns the screen on automatically.
This is the case: STILGUT - ULTRASLIM CASE MADE FROM LEATHER FOR LG G2 (sorry, can't post links, new user restriction, Google it)
I thought it was an LG G2 feature but then I bought another cheaper case and with the new case the screen doesn't turn on and off automatically when the case is opened or closed.
I don't understand what it could be - how does this case work?
There's a small magnet on the inside of the flap of the case, this activates a sensor in the phone to shut the screen off when closed

Really? That's awesome.
I find it weird that I couldn't find this specification on their website. It was a huge surprise when I started using it and never knew why, and it was also a huge disappointment when the new one didn't work the same. Damn.
Anyone knows of any other cases that can do this? I think this feature is very, very helpful and again, like I said, I find it odd it's not one of the key selling points of the case on their website.
