Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has fully dismantled an X1 - and if so, do you know if there are water indicator stickers on the inside of the phone?
So far, I can see two on the outside (one on the battery itself and the other where the battery contacts are on the phone itself)
Thanks in advance!
some where on youtube there is a vid on dismanteling an Xperia

It doesn't appear to have any on the inside.. however I'm not sure if the 3 rectangular white things on http://www.phonewreck.com/wiki/images/thumb/a/a8/Xperia_x1_pcb_2.jpg/800px-Xperia_x1_pcb_2.jpg are teh same as the water indicators on the outside.
Yes Dismantled it.
Mine fell down. Touch stopped working and so did the finger scroll sensor. The touch worked in landscape but in portrait it wont work.
Opened it and found the connector slide cable (similar to ones in samsung slide phones) unplugged. Guess the shock of the fall made it stick out.
Anyways plugged it back in and whoa....Phone was as good as new.
For thoe whose touchscreen stop working, I suggest please first try the "BOAN" method. (Battery off all night). Insert the battery in the morning and the screen works miraculously.

Or make a hard reset may i add...
Or full flash instead thats worked for me...
Hard Reset did not solve my probem though. I tried flashing to Generic R2a0010 as well. Did not work.
One more thing before i tried the BOAN methodm was inserting a visiting card between the screen and the casing especially the four corners to wipe out the dirt. beleive me, its the small particles that pile up and sometimes pressurize a particular point disrupting the touch mechanism. I got my X1i only 20 days back, and i stay home or office and believe me there was enough dirt residing in the corners. I was actually surprised why they had such a big gap between the screen and the casing.
Anyways, since i did the flash, I flashed mine with the latest R3A0010. All's well in my x1 except that custom ringtones are not loud enough.

I've done everything I could do without taking apart the phone.
I don't know what's wrong, sometimes it will work sometimes it won't.
Now though, I reinstalled WM5 (latest cingular build) and I have to tap the screen to start using it, but the screen won't work.
that happened to me when I put a screen protector on my phone. I took off the protector and the phone worked again
I dont have one of those.
Has the mobile fallen on the ground? Make sure the screen doesn't have any dust on the borders... if there is contact on the screen on any point, it won't recognize any other point of touch (multi-touch is not supported by our screens).
I'll try cleaning that out when I get a can of compressed air
I got it to work for a second so I can use the phone. Now I just want it to always work.

Thanks so much for this post!!
The other day my touch screen stopped responding to my taps.. The lcd worked fine and I could still navigate with the buttons, it just wouldn't respond to touch..
So I was almost ready to take my phone apart to see if the digitizer connection was loose.. I decided to search around and see what other ppl had to say about TS problems.
I read this post and started to go around the edges of the screen with a business card and lo and behold it started to work again.. Must've just been some dirt up in there.. You just saved me a huge headache!
Thanks dferreira
My screen is all white now.
Anyone know how to take apart the phone, I'm thinkin my ribbon is not connected right.
hi,
since yesterday, my niki doesn´t response to touchscreen tapping if the slider is opened. i hear a very quiet metallic clicking sound if i open it up... if i try tapping the touchscreen before this little click appears, the touch works... but with slider open completely, it doesn´t. i guess this is hardware specific. i´ve tried a hardreset now, but still doesnt work any advice?
EDIT: i didnt flash any other radio...
EDIT2: sometimes it does work.
Sounds like a ribbon cable has come loose to the touch screen - send it back if it is under warranty, if not, Mike Channon has collected links to the service manuals somewhere on here which should show you how to correctly take it apart, fix it and put it back together again
Cheers,
Smiffy
I had the same problem. In my device it was: cable that goes to touch screen contacted metal on back panel.
I've solve it by finding manual to take my niki apart (http://www.pdacenter.ru/razborka/razbor_htc_touch_dual/ - but it is in russian). I've done everything till 6 point. Then I put my v-card between this cable and metal. Now it's ok
I've got extra service on mine.
6 euro's a month.
handed in the phone today (same issue), and got given an new one! ;D

You ROCK! I had this exact same problem happen on my NIKI100 after I put Tom's Niki Project ROM on & immediately blamed it but after flashin back to stock the problem still occured & I was really bummin! I found this thread, tore my NIKI apart to step 6 as you described & I could see the spots on the metal of the inside back of the back cover where the cable was rubbing along with the protective plastic worn off on the cable a little bit so I suspect it was touching the metal & shorting out causing the problem (heck I'm surprised it didn't do some real damage!) so I cut about a 1" length of electrical tape & taped it to the area of the metal that it was rubbing on (I didn't see any legit reason for anything to make contact to that area for a ground so I figured it was OK. I started at the edge & ended just before the gaps where you would be able to see the tape from the other side in the battery cavity) and VOILA! it fixed it! To me it looks like a nasty design flaw on HTC's part but not expecting a recall any time soon. I suspect this fix will out last the phone & hopefully this thread will help others. I am 1/2 tempted to tear apart my NEON to see if the same design exists or if they put a piece of tape in that area.

Hm, same problem here. Thought first that it was an error of the ROM that I used..
Btw: isolated every contat that I could find (nearly ) but no result -> still my touchscreen doesn't work when my slide is open..
EDIT: has anyone PHOTO'S of their disassembly and isolation work? I the problem is different on my device 'cuz the cable hasn't worn off...
Ok,
Now I took my device apart to the last piece, took the display cable apart, taped it in completely and my touchscreen WORKS once again :-D.
Woot! Thumbs up for XDA-developers!
EDIT: Now my touchscreen doesn't work when slide's closed... Any suggestion?

ive brought my dual to a vodafone shop and they have fixed my dual. Replaced a part and software update, got windows 6.1 now, legal and my screen is working like a champ!
I have had the same problem with my touch screen except mine stopped working completely, it didn't matter if it was slide out or not. I could get the phone replaced on warranty though.
Just posting so people know this isn't just isolated case.
mine slowly stopped working.. im gonna disassemble later and try this. im glad im not alone
edit: worked a treat. some insulation tape on the metal shielding worked great.
That did't work for me! Can it be something else or is it the flex cable for shure? I'm considering buying a new flex cable on ebay! Will that fix the problem with touchscreen dos'nt work when slide is open?
theres a 99% chance that its the flex cable.. did you check it for any damage? mine had tiny tiny little dots with wire exposed. barely noticable but it was enough. try taping the cable. i dont know. if not, i'd get a new cable for sure.
It's worth a try. I've just bought a new cable. Hopefully it will make my
Dual working again. Now I just have to wait a week for it.
The cable arrived today and my dual now works perfect. Now the question is which phone i'll use, my dual or my new Diamond.. =)
hey, where did you get yours from? and how much did it cost?
i have seen ebay, but they are over 30$US including shipping.

Hello,
After many hours of searching I havent found something that is like my problem. I got this model recently, and now the touch area issint working. In landscape mode only the bottom of the screen is working.
Is does not mather if you push for example in the left upper side corner or the left lower side corner.... Both will result in getting "Phone" up
I havent tried a hard reset or something. And Im running the standard Vodafone rom on it. (Windows mobile 5)
Is this problem hardware or software? and is there perhaps some kind of software so I can get a mouse cursor with my Arrow-keys?
I hope you guys can give me some answers. Its a waste not using this phone
I have also no idea what the reason is why its not working. It did not drop on the floor or something like that.
Thanks in advance,
Erlerain

Yes, but it is not getting the points that it should get. So you can try it a thousand times, and it would not make a diffreance.
Anyone? (sorry to bumb)
I have the same problem. Though I read on someplace that the screen is actualy getting pressed somewhere. try these steps and check after each try.
1st: Massage the screen softly all over.
2nd: Take a something very thin and move it under the edges of the screen.
3rd: (this on is the one that usualy works for me) try to tap softly on the back of the screen.(The aluminum plate) tap it all around the back of it.
4th: (this is the last way out when step 3 doesn't work for me.) Tap softly around the screen.
Gonna put up a video on youtube on how I do it. so you get to know how hard to tap and stuff. Since I guess we're not the only people with this problem.
Edit: Ehm. does anyone know a good free webcam recording program so I can make a video.
Ive already tried those steps. did not work
Then open the monitor part of the phone and press on the backside of the LCD.
Yep, thought the same. Ive tried to open the casing of the monitor part, but its pretty hard to get the plastic cover off
Ill try it soon again.
Thanks MiZore for ur active answering
No problem, but if you find a solution that lasts please write how here. Because I also have this problem. You have to use a little force to the the cover off. There is a dissassembly guide somewhere, I can find it for you if you haven't used it already.
i dont have that guide
Here's the guide
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC Universal Service Manual
I've found another temporary solution. Take a good grip on each side of screenpart of the universal, then bend it softly back and then forth. This hasn't failed me once yet. But still no permanent solution.
gonna open mine and put something that will apply a constant pressure to the back of the screen like som cotton or something simmilar. I'll let you know the results.
Also, do you use a replacement battery or the original that came with the Uni?
Okay I opened it up today, and I think I've found the problem. Though not 100% sure. From my inspections one of the cables(small ones inside the silver tape) on the flexcable is not connected. and sadly I'm not that skilled with fixing it. So I'm gonna order a new one. I will tell you if it helps.
Okey, so I continued working on the uni today again.
Ive de-assembled the entire screen section. inspected it if anything looked broken. Wich was not the case.
Re-assembled everything again. but I still have the same problem.
As far as I know I use the retail battery
When I have some spair time ill try to look for some damaged cables.
I dont see the future of this device very brightfull

Well I had to cut open the gray cover for the cables to see the damage.
But I'll see what happens when my new cable arrives.
I've installed the new cable and that fixed the touchscreen for me.
But now my sound won't work for some reason....

Just confirmed this issue on my Omnia7.
This is retarded. Capacitive screens don't work that way.
not having any problem on my omnia 7...tried everything to try emulate some of the effects reported! not seeing any deterioration in sensitivity!
Not a pickle from my Omnia 7, Still as lush as ever and responsive as it should be, i've been mostly USING in on a pillow/soft surface when it's laying down next to me when i'm home and sitting here for hours on end.
Loving it even more when all these bugs/glitches come out and it's stomping them down.
I feel I should come back to this and apologise as I have found a pillow which messes up my phone's touch responsiveness too. Interesting.

What kind of pillow? This smells of static to me, seeing as capactive screens rely on the tiny electrical charges in your body. Polyester fabrics getsquite static, do they not?
It happens to me when I place it on my desk...

I believe the manual is a load of BS. My iPad works fine when connected to my powerpoint. I've noticed that when the Omnia is charging via powerpoint its screen sensitivity does go down, BUT, when you hold the phone with your other hand, or even just touch part of the rear/side with one finger, the screen starts working flawlessly.... imo it could be some design flaw regarding conductivity
When I place my Omnia 7 on my car phone holder (from Capdase), the screen does not respond at times, and I can't seem to find any pattern why or how this happens. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Once I take it off the phone holder, the screen is working fine again.
I wrote it in the other thread... but I had this problem too and after I flashed the newest firmware it was gone. Now the screen responds perfect no matter where I place the phone.
You should check the thread with omnia firmware out
Another solution I found is that you would need to Hard reset your device not through the settings but turning off and than press/hold volume down + camera and power on. Than press the middle button twice and than you will not have anymore problems with touch screen.

o really?! I thought it was just magic and the magic couldn't work when the phone was placed on soft things! im so glad someone with intelligence could teach me about this capacitive thingy whoever he is!
you have completely cleared this up for me - i now see the error of my ways. must have been having hallucinations or something. sorry for this disruption everybody!
i hope the next version of our phone uses magic because that would be really cool!
on a side note to that, after updating my firmware yesterday this dosnt seem to happen anymore. stupid hallucinations!
Had this before, after the firmware Upgrade the Problem seems to be resolved but after some time ( 1 week or so ) it's back again.
Looks like there is a fix for the laying-flat-issue for the Focus:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11077163#post11077163
Maybe it works for some issues with the Omnia 7 as well. Did anybody already try?
Yes, have the same. If I put it on my couch, or bed. Sometimes also on hard surfaces. Doesn't bother me too much though, but it is weird.
I'm not trying to toot my own horn here...but I was literally the first person (or one of them at least) on Microsoft answers, Youtube and forums alike to raise concern about this issue.
It's a conductivity problem. As long as one hand is touching the back of the phone (sometimes near the top or sides too) then the touch screen will operate normally.
The reason it stuffs up when you have it flat is because you're not touching the back of the device, hence the conductivity flaw.
Check all this, it's a problem with the Omnia 7's, deal with it or chose another handset. I ended up keeping mine, I can live with it.

Hi all. I replaced my battery, put the phone back together, and turned it on. Everything looked fine until I tried to use the touchscreen. It wouldn't register any touch. I figured I messed up the screen somehow when removing it, so I ordered a replacement screen - touch doesn't work with that either! Does anyone have a suggestion for what might be wrong?

I have replaced the cracked screen on my PH-1 without issues... Since you are seeing the same problem with TWO different screens, I would check the connector on the board. Could be something like small piece of debris or dust or whatever. Remove the cable, and try inspecting it with a magnifying glass, if you can. Might be able to use a wooden toothpick to *carefully* clean it up, but I would only recommend that if you can actually see it well. You could also just blow a couple of shots of compressed air into it.
Other than that, I have no ideas, sorry...

might need a factory reset as this recilibrates the screen, back up ail your data first of course (pics, chats, game data etc). Not sure if recalibration apps still work, might be worth a shot first.
I had the same issue after replacing the screen. Someone on reddit mentioned the same problem and used a bit of foam behind the screen and its connection. I took a razor and trimmed a mm or two thick of some soft foam (used the foam that the screen was packaged in) and placed it over the connector. Touch was back after that, so it was an issue with the connection not being snug enough for me. Been over a month and everything is fine
