Bah still a year to go on my contract. Ah well it's been more or less precisely one year between the HD and HD2/Leo so hopefuly as soon as my contract is up next year HD3 will be out
In addition, all I can find in regards to operators is that O2 will be stocking it?

There's a code for the HD2 on Carphone Warehouse's computer systems, along with an entry on the 'Coming Soon' page of their mobiles.co.uk subsidiary site.
So even if Orange and/or Vodafone don't carry the handset directly, it may well be available through a third-party retailer.
HTC Unveils First Windows® Phone with HTC Sense, the HTC HD2
Quoted from the official release in Taiwan by Peter Chou - CEO HTC Corporation
"At HTC we believe that the best things in life should be experienced, not explained. HTC Sense is based on this principle by making the phone more simple and natural to use and by enabling people to personalise their mobile experience in their own unique way," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. "With HTC Sense, the HTC HD2 melds the power and flexibility of the Windows platform with the most advanced phone we’ve ever created."

I'll be going with the HD2 for £18.99 through MobilePhonesDirect.co.uk.
T-Mobile Combi 35 + Web'n'Walk: 800 minutes, unlimited texts & unlimited data for £39.15 per month. Sounds good to me!
Went with MobilePhonesDirect to get my HD on Vodafone last December and was mightily impressed with their customer service (especially after been led along the garden path by Mobile.co.uk!) Since having an unbranded version of an HTC phone (previous phones had been 'pimped' by O2 and T-Mobile) I'd never go back to one through a regular carrier.
i pre ordered mine sim free on mobile fun for £499.99 inc vat Plus £5.95 for delivery. what a bargain cant wait
here is the link

Now I feel angry that I bought the Diamond 2 instead of waiting for HD2..... Oh well, hopefully they'll release a new device just when I need one.
^^OMG... This time it looks like they're shipping the device with drivers.
Awesome PPC! Will be ordering one unlocked from across the pond

We are talking about an OS that will shipped to OEMs 9 months from now and then must be tested against the hardware. Considering that a year from now HTC will have announced 5 to 10 new devices, I would say that Crossbow will never run on devices you buy today. It just doesn't make any sense commercially.
Crossbow is already shipped out to OEM, and will be released to end-users Q1/2 2007. <- *edit: just to be on the safe side: Crossbow should be shipped out to OEMs Q4 2006, so we still got a month to go
I think you are talking about Photon(or something like that), which will be sent out to OEMs next year...
Yeah, I think anonimo is talking about Photon not Crossbow.
Anyway, I just hope we get our upgrade to Crossbow by the end of the year, that would be great.
Also, I wish they'd release their ActiveSync replacement in time for Vista launch.
I would think that they would be release it in conjunction with Vista and I think HTC may release the update but they may charge a fee ($29.99 - $99.99) as HP released a update for some of their devices and the fee was $29.99. I would be happy to pay between $29.99 - $99.99 for the update.
Has HTC (via brands Qtek, Imate, Dopod) ever offered an OS upgrade in the past?
As far as I can see and this is why I have not purchased an HTC branded device yet , they do not even supply updated downloadable ROMs for the devices they sell unlike Imate branded HTC devices. I can't see the section on their site and have only heard that the ROM updates will be sent to your suppliers . I can't see expansys doing that .
I would guess that if they cannot do that then they will not offer Vista Upgrades either.
If anyone can point me to the ROM upgrade section on the European or any other site of HTC's then that would sway me in to buying one their own branded products.
-mobile and htc has agreed to join as i have heard at work/today (t-mobile)////Pleasant ‘Dream’ for HTC, Google: FCC approves =
The FCC has approved HTC’s ‘Dream’ phone, which will now be the first Android-based handset to hit the market, InfoWeek reports. It will support T-Mobile’s 3G network. (Let’s see if it handles 3G better than Apple and AT&T.)
Given the disparities between HTC Dream and Android SDK 0.9, it’s safe to say that “Android will likely improve greatly before HTC and T-Mobile debut the first phones to use Android in October, thanks in no small part to the OS’s openness toward third-party developers,” as PC Mag says.

i cant wait till this thing comes out they are showing it has touchscreen and track ball, etc and it should retail at $ 399.99
nice i read on another site we can expect it in oct.-nov.
The rumors I hear is that the dream will be available for pre-order mid sept. If you pre-order you can get it for $150. It will become available beginning of Oct. for $200 if you didn't pre-order it.

Anyone get any specs on this phone... My wing is painfully slow even with the latest opentouch micro on it... and if anyone knows what browser they will be using that would be a plus!
I did a Google search for 'HTC "Touch HD"' webpages in the last 24 hours and this came up from the O2 Forums.

Now just diverging to the rumours that O2 will be getting this themselves, I was very surprised to hear, when I wandered in to my local O2 shop, that they were expecting them in in December. WTF I thought, so I checked out the news, and lo and behold there are a few others that have heard the same. Now I'm not going to hold my breath on this for too long, but if that is true I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks...

Touch HD directly from O2
Hi there - it's quite odd to see myself quoted here! (I'm PWJW in the above mentioned thread).
I should point out that the thread that this is from is about buying the phone from mobiles.co.uk (here > http://forum.o2.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=9555&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=180), which is offering O2 deals. The first two comments may well be referring to availability through this route, or not, I am not sure myself, which is why I raised my point, hoping for some clarification.
I spoke to someone in an O2 shop, and they said that they were aware of the Orange exclusive, but thought it was only until the end of the month, and that they (O2) would be getting it in in early December. Now I took that with a big pinch of salt, because I usually know more about handsets and release dates (due to these great forums) than they do!
I was actually so shocked that I did not ask the obvious follow up questions like "Are you absolutely sure about that?!" and "Can I have it in writing?", but there you go. I might give them a call in the morning and see if there is any "news"...
Fingers crossed, as this would save me some hassles I could do without.
So much for the Orange exclusive!!!
O2's network sucks though, 3G coverage is the worst of the lot... Why would you want it on O2?

lol! Well I'm already there, that's why
I'm not averse to switching network, but O2 works in my home, which is also where I work, and therefore where I need to use my phone 99% of the time. I also have personal reasons for never going near Orange, so that leaves my options limited, though I have seen the HD available on Vodaphone, which is tempting > http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b509/n443/p3185.aspx
At the moment I am waiting to see one for real before making decision, but I know that I am only postponing the inevitable. At least if O2 get this themselves, then I can negotiate an upgrade from them - I'm on Simplicity at the moment, which I have to say is a cracking deal - £20pm, 600 mins + free bolt-on ("unlimited" web in my case).
Well, it's appeared on the Intranet in the past few days, Orange seem to think they've got the HD as an exclusive "...well into 2009!"...
its all a bit dodgy if you ask me, we know O2 Germany are running with the HD, we know Orange have some sort of exclusive deal but for how long remains at question, perhaps a get around for this would be the fact that Orange WOULD have exclusive rights to Touch HD, simply because 2 would make it there own so perhaps that might be the answer.
Ive heard that There is a XDA release in December but its not the HD, but as teh other Forums suggest it may well be headed O2 directs way.
All in all im somewhat confused, if anyone has any answers out there please feel free to enlighten us!
Its also worth noting that Both the XDA Ignito and Serra were registered names against there respected phones LONG before they actually released them, and since ive not heard a peep about a new XDA name its doubtful in my opinion that an XDA Touch HD will be here this side of new year.
Well I phoned a store in Hertfordshire, they said no idea. The girl searched on her system and came up with strange alternatives.
I phoned upgrades twice. First person said no idea. Second person gave me a lecture on how HTC phones are branded O2 XDAs. Yes.... Ok.

Probably the XDA Mantle. Screen not as big as the Touch HD. You can Google it.

HTC HD on O2
Hi All,
Just wanted to let everyone know that I have got my HTC HD on O2. Completely unbranded and without any logos... Brilliant! The only website I found selling this on O2 last week was e2save!! all other websites have it on preorder on O2.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,

This is very tempting for me too. But are Vodafone good? as i'm a T-Mobile user and I am getting bored with them and their phone releases. But I fear that it I leave they will get the phone so I am waiting till the beginning of next year to see whats happens.
Could this be why Orange dropped the Touch HD????

Not that it makes any difference to me, still don't like the iPhone. It's to much like a "My First Smartphone" for my liking.

Would doubt this is the reason. Orange probably dropped the HD due to newer models being released by HTC and sales of the HD itself where dropping.
Doesn't look like they will be getting the Leo though.

Hah, don't make me laugh.
Someone just printed 'HTC Leo' and details of a standard O2 tariff onto a piece of A4 paper and took a photo of it next to an O2 leaflet, how does that prove anything?
I could print out Leo's specs and picture them next to some Apple brochure but it sure as hell wouldn't mean Apple were going to be producing a handset with WinMo...
As for Orange, I wouldn't say they seem to carry a disproportionately large number of HTC devices.
Plus, even if you're only prepared to buy from a bricks-and-mortar store, you can generally get a lot of 'exclusive' handsets on a number of different networks - for example Carphone Warehouse sold the HD on O2.
And that's before we even start to consider the huge number of websites that will sell pretty much any phone on any network...
HTC just put up the press release that they launched Desire HD and Desire Z in asia.does this means the wait is over?or WTF?

On another note i believe you are being a bit over ambitious about the moderating, have a bit of patience with locking topics, i guarantee you you will have more than enough of that once the phones are finally out...

Couple of days ago talked to my local supplier in Beijing about when can get Desire HD or Desire Z from them. Was told after mid Oct they can get for me the phones, but for +30 to 40% the price in Europe, in mid Nov they can offer the phones "normally priced" (whatever this means)

Meaning, most probably the phones will be launched in Europe first, and they'll be grey imported into Beijing for a hefty price (since there is no way you can get them besides through grey import).
Once the phone is finally launched officially in Bejing, they'll be able to obtain the phone from an authorized distributor locally, and the price will be the RRP (recommended retail price) set by the distributor.

As I know these phones are not getting officially into China - all will be grey import. I dont believe this import will come from Europe but from other Asian locations - Taiwan, HK, Singapore, Malaysia etc. Mass supply (grey import) starts after local techie community is ready with Chinese ROM. The distributors are re-flashing the sets and then putting them on the market.
Before Chinese ROM available there will be imported only very limited number of sets - the reason for the "hefty price" in the beginning. No RRP as no official channels, but in general expect the "normally priced" phones to be cheaper than in Europe.
The funny is to get a phone with stock ROM I made a "special request order" with the supplier
I too appreciate the posting. Any news about the DHD is considered relevant info. Sure, some stuff will be more relevant than other, and sometimes news will be repeated, but come on... let us all play nice, and appreciate that our friends share all the cool stuff they find about the DHD. Personally, I appreciate this thread.
For those who read chinese. This site captured quite a fair bit of the "Launch Party" in Taiwan.
