Jade over/underclocking? - Touch 3G General

Hey, guys.
Is there any simple and reliable piece of software that will allow us Jade users to tweak our phones' CPU speed? I actually want to underclock it a few, in order to prolongue battery life when playing games during long train rides etc.
Thanks in advance.

hi
try the attached i used it to overclock my previous phone Which was a gene
hope it helps try it at your own risk OK
Note : to my knowledge and usage all application working on a gene do work on a jade

Thanks, haree, but that app. is way too "heavy" for my needs. I'm running the stock HTC ROM, so i have no need for the Today screen plug-in and all that jazz. I just need a simple app. or way to underclock. Something along the lines of "HTC Performance", "xcpuscalar" et cetera.

Hi
dear the same application has the omap which is used to over or under clock the phone sorry this is the only one i know of

So, if i understand correctly, there is no other app. for under/overclocking Qualcomm CPUs other than Home Screen Plus Plus. I wonder why hasn't anybody bothered to make such an app. It would've been very well received by the vast majority of experienced HTC users. I wish i knew how to code.
Thanks alot for your help, haree!

Stupid Noob! Needs Advice

Yep the title is right-
I've searched the forums countless times and read the wiki. Although i am more than technically experienced to perform the "upgrades" I cant quite nail down the step by step procedures for my device and the upgrades i desire.
Feel free to rip me a new one- but please direct me down the right path.
Oh i'm not in any kind of hurry.
I have a Cingy/ATT 8525
and I want to run Black and I want all the worthy tweaks that
allow one to have an extended array of functionality.
Thanks in advance and sorry for creating clutter.
Hi
I dont understand what you are asking - are you asking how to flash the black 2.5 rom? The instuctions to do so are in the black 2.5 thread, and also on the RUU installer package that you can download.
All tweaks are also included in the black 2.5 thread.
Its quite a simple flash process.
1) Backup all your personal data as your the device will be formatted (not including the microSD card)
2) Connect your phone via activesync on a winxp pc
3) Run the installer
4) In approx 5 mins, its all done
hi nmonger
thanks for the advice.
What i am trying to accomplish is get a fully tweaked 8525- or as damn
close as humanly possible.

I think that first you have to figure out what do you want with your phone...there are a lot of Tweaks and changes and improves you can do to your 8125, but not all of them could be usefull for you or ...
My personal sugestion is that read again the forum and decide wich things want to change and the go for them... everyone here can help you and there are already a lot of threads whit step-to-step info about upgrading and Tweaking your device.
I could also sugest that you follow the upgrading guide here on the forum and first upgrade the bootloader, then the OS and the Radio... and after that you will have a better phone and the time to look for more changes to apply...

really depends on what you want to use the device for. upgrading is easy [if you read and follow the guides], and the available roms on this site are pretty damn stable (for me at least). Depending on which rom you install, you will need different tweaks, add-ons. For example, for your 8525, at a minimum, you will want the cingular settings (which some roms bake in) and the keyboard fix. Everyone has their favorite installs. For me, a corporate user of the 8525 on Cingular, I have installed the following (keep in mind this is a subjective list) ... I don't watch video or listen to music much with this device, so I have not tweaked it out for these things:
Must haves (for me)
Goodlink
Bandswitch 1.2.3
BatteryStatus today plugin
Cingular Settings (by wpbear)
ComButtong-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix
8525 Keyboard Patch
Cyberon Voice Dialer (I use it, and I know it is lame)
Pocket IE Card Cache (to cache on my SD Card)
Acrobat Reader LE
Speed patch (buzzing for Black 2.5 when I run that ROM)
MPM patch (for Custel 1.3 when I run that ROM)

Interesting list you have there weinson.
So i have already stated on my journey here is what i have so far, its not a long list but i suppose its a good starting point.
WM6 Pro Black 2.5
Radio Version 1.40.30.00
What i need my 8525 to be is as highly efficient as possible i need the apps to open quickly and be easily found, i do a little traveling so i need my music and maybe a video or two. Web browsing to be effortless because i need to get on the internet for my job (i am a real estate agent) and i need the best WiFi connectivity available in addition to the 3g connection because sometimes im in Wifi enable buildings and cant get a "cell signal", thats also why i am looking at VOIP options and lastly i am searching for a non-windows push service, i'm really going to miss my BB until i can get a reliable solution.
I want to thank everyone for there help so far and the members for this forum ive been lurking for a while and am very impressed with its diligently helpful atmosphere.
Keep sending those suggestions- I will continue my search.

Camera-based Motion Tracking

Hello everyone!
I'm new on this forum and I've only read TONS of useful information till now...Few days ago I bought an HTC Touch device and immediately I flashed its ROM with a new one found in this *** WONDERFUL *** site
Well, in the past I developed some (stupid) applications for Windows in several languages; then I discover the "pocket-pc" world and began to have to do with it! One night I was reading about a feature of a developement-version of a well known browser and WOOOOOOOW!!!! "You can perform several actions, like scrolling, panning, zooming...only by moving your phone!" The software use image-processing algorithms to recognize your gestures ...only using the built-in camera!!!! No accelometers needed...
Something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3pVaEVHpvI
Now, image-processing algorithms are not too difficult to implement...but how can I get access to the built-in camera on my Htc ?!? I tried to search all over the internet, and in this forum too...but I found only few things about HTCCameraAPI and many other programs and their dlls. I cannot believe there's no way to have access to the camera!!!
HELP please!!! this "project" could be very interesting!
One thing is sure - it _can_ be done, and it can work really good, even on weak hardware - look at this:
http://rivia.net/Fishopolis.aspx
I just tried the demo and i was amazed how well it worked on my wizard (especially considering its crappy camera), even in less than perfect lighting conditions (incadescent light). No overclocking required.
Also, from what i've seen WM7 is going to use the camera-based gestures too. So, anyone willing to beat M$ to it and develop a camera-based ftouchflo-like app?
I've looked at the libs, and I've even dabbled in the source, and this is my next project. Like I said, we know it can be done, it's just a matter of doing it. Obviously though, I've got to finish off PocketMelody etc. But it's my next move, once no one beats me to it . And personally, I hope someone does! It's not THAT hard.
Welcome to the forums gregnapola!
This website hepled me choose my very first PPC Phone 18 months ago and helped it become the best little device I own. It just keeps getting better and better with tools such as FTouchFlo, PocketMelody and Picture Flow, and I look forward to this feature onMY HTC Hermes!
Shows how much really can be done with this WM platform, all you need is developers with imagination and talent (and all the other things that go along with it like coffe and donations and and respect on the forums ).
Thanks guys.
maybe we would have some1 develop a program that automatically changes portrait mode into landscape by jus rotating the camera..hey u never kno..this is XDA-DEVELOPERS..
Sounds awesome and would definitly love to see this done. Just a quick question about it. Would it be a big battery drain to have this running all the time?

Considering that you're not rendering anything to the screen, it's at least safe to assume you'll be using A LOT less power than if you were walking around with your camera application on all day .
Thank you for your replies...
I've just installed the demo version of "Rivia Fishopolis" to see how well can it work but it doesn't run it because of an unknow security-error
Now, I found a lot of useful camera-based applications, but they'll come in the future - I'm talking about WM7 gesture-based control, NetFront 3.5 or EyeMobile Games by GestureTek...but all I really need is the way to capture frames by my Elf camera; code samples in any Visual Studio language with HTCCameraAPI, or any other lib...
any update?
I'd also love to substitute my D-Pad for a Camera-based Motion Tracking system
No Dev takes this challenge?

Im trying to use Fishopolis on my phone ( an HTC Wizard) but i keep on getting some kind of weird security error.
Any ideas why im getting that error and how to fix it?
doesn't seem to work with the camera on the Hermes...hmmm
Looks like we will have to wait until 2009 for WM7.
wouldn't it consume a lot more battery if camera is always on.
just my thought
I think this is a cool idea and I think I mentioned this somewhere else in this forum, but if this could be done, it would be cool if one could use the camera of there phone, link it via bluetooth and use it as a mouse for a laptop.
Just thinking outloud.

Overclock Capability

Hi,
I overclocked my Prophet about a week ago to 301MHz and have it seems to be very stable - i've had no freezing the whole time whilst browsing the web, send emails and watch streaming video via orb. I just wanted to know if anyone has been able to push the Prophet any further to get an idea about its overclock capability. I know the phone in most cases remains working if you clock it to high but my Tornado seems to have slowed down after I overclocked it too much and I don't want that to happen with this one aswell.
Thanks
The highest speed I can OC my prophet to stably is 286. The chips all behave slightly differently so one may clock higher than others...
cool thanks!!
I advise you not to overclock it that much. At least not in a regular basis. It is a good idea tu use the scalar mode. You can find that setting on BatteryStatus plugin.
someone can tell me the name of a overcloker ?
id proved 2 types of programs (turbotry, other) with no results.
anyone knows a cool program tooverclock a Prophet - qtek200 and WM5 ?
thanks a lot
Try Battery Status, I've been using this for a very long long time with many cool features other than overclocking......trust me and try it....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751

Hi,
The program your looking for is omapclock, however this only temporarily overclocks the cpu. To overclock over a longer period of time you will need tornado power control (which comes with omapclock) - I have attached a file

How to optimize your HTC Shift

I've been using it for two weeks and I love this little machine!
However, I sometimes find it quite slow (I usually open two apps at the same time) and turn on Wi-fi and GPRS.
Anybody can share your experience on how to optimize your Shift / Vista?

sure, one of the plans of shift project is to collect shift specific and also non specific tweaks to vista
I'm still on my little holiday but ltxda is looking into that
here's some generic ones though common sense will already tell you, but just in case:
- disable stupid services - though HTC already did some of that work, still worth checking that out. funny thing here: shagctrl relies on windows audio so leave those services alone.
- disable window animations, the vista theme itself doesn't require much resources but any kind of animation and other vista fluff will have a serious impact on GUI performance.
- disable any other features in control panel that you don't need. I heartily recommend you check out all advanced settings too
- remove all useless tray icons and startup services / other startup apps
- use apps that are light on resources - my preferred email and IM clients are such programs, also opera is a bit faster than the default IE7... definitely faster than firefox 2 (sorry).
that way I get 500MB free ram easily and near 3 hours on battery with some wifi usage.
ofcourse the ultimate optimization is ... snapvue
Hi Cmonex,
500mb of RAM free eh? i'd love that... best i've got is about 400mb... is there any chance you could embellish the above a bit more and give us a bit more detail of what you did please?
Thanks!

That is a big list! Just what I asked for. Thanks
Just for info, I found that by typing 'disable vista services' into Google.
Google really is your best friend.
Lots of people I know think that I know everything about computers - I don't (yet ) but I do know that Google knows all. All you need to know is how to ask the question.
There is an excellent tutorial on getting the best from Google here.

I guess you're right...
Thx for googling for me.

Overclocking the Treo Pro is possible!!

Ok, Before I start, I'd just like to note that this is my very first Thread on XDA, so if this is the "wrong section" and what not, sorry.
Now, If somebody has already figured this out and has a source, please direct me towards it, because I simply couldn't find it, Googling for my life! But I actually figured out a way myself and thought I'd share it in case this is still unheard of.
It's quite simple really, from my research on the CPUs that are in these HTC Devices, I figured MSM7kCpuSpeed should do it, but whenever I adjusted the clock in there, the phone froze, even under clocking froze the phone, then after toying around with other clocking programs, I discovered the phone apparently does some kind of auto CPU Scaling CONSTANTLY, so I looked for a way to disable this, and found Pocket Hack Master. and to my surprise, it worked! MSM7kCpuSpeed no longer froze the phone with the Auto Scaling disabled!
So here's how to in short:
1. Download and install Pocket Hack Master, and under File > Edit > Settings > Advanced. Tick "Disable Device Built-in Scaling" then tap "Ok" and then "Minimize" Make sure Pocket Hack Master DOES NOT CLOSE! Keep it open and MINIMIZED.
2. Download and install MSM7kCpuSpeed, Overclock and enjoy!
I've only gotten my Treo Pro up to about 730mhz without any crashing. but this actually works! I haven't tested with some kind of Benchmark, but I tested with many different emulators, and they are indeed much faster!
And that's it! Enjoy!
Hi there, I tried your overclocking solution but I got a problem, when I try to run MSM7kCpuSpeed I get an error message and the application does not open. I have Pocket Hack Master running with the mentioned setting activated.
Any ideas? I installed MSM7CpuSpeed v2. Looks like the device is not supported from what I have read in the MSM7CpuSpeed thread. I have the unlocked GSM Treo Pro. Perhaps you are running the CDMA device?
Would love to overclock my Treo Pro.
Yea, I do have the CDMA version, but I don't see why that would make the program not work... Unless the GSM Version really has a different CPU? and not just clocked at a different level.
Maybe you need Compact Framwork 3.5 or higher? I dont know if its needed to run MSM7kCpuSpeed, but give that a check.
Both the CDMA and GSM versions of the Treo Pro have the Qualcomm MSM7201 chipset. The difference is the clock speed; the CDMA runs at 528MHz, while the GSM runs at 400MHz.
Thanks for the info.... hummm, I just checked and my TP has CF 3.5 installed. Maybe it has to do with my ROM. I am using Mordaz 6.5 21884 in Spanish. Are you in 6.5 or maybe 6.1? Perhaps the language?

I'm using a 6.1 - 21057 rom from RaiderFan, English.
Well, I really don't know what to tell you. this really does work... for me at least...

I'm using the same rom but in Dutch. Anyways I also get the same failure report.
Well I'm going to instal another rom today, so I will let you know if that is a game changer.
edit: Tried with the 21903 and 28.... (both 6.5) but still nothing and the same error.

I do got a question regarding the battery. It seems that the apps are really draining my battery, do you also notice that or is it just me?

Im using PHM (Pocket Hack Master) Version 4.36.062, Msm7kCpuSpeed Version 2.
As for battery, I've been able to keep my Treo Pro steady at 768mhz, and theres only a very small decrease in battery life.
Hmmmm.... You know, I had discovered 2 different ways to overclock the Treo Pro, I didn't even bother mentioning the other method, because its a bit tricky and requires you to be fast, but it seems more reliable, however it only has 1 clock choice and thats 768mhz.
well, here it is: You need to download NueOverclockTest (Google NueOverclockTest, wont let me post links)
After you install it, theres 2 ways to do this, if your lucky, you can just open PHM to stop the CPU scaling, then just go ahead and use NueOverclockTest to overclock to 768 Mhz. However for me, after I did that a few times, it didn't seem to work anymore untill i started doing it the tricky way, witch goes like this.
First, you have to have PHM CLOSED, then you gotta have a way to open PHM real fast, either by setting one of your keys to open it, or whatever, next what you do is this, open up NueOverclockTest and click "ok" twice till it gets to the "Your current clock speed is xxx.xx Mhz, set clock speed to 768.00 Mhz?", when it gets to that menu, sit and wait for about 10 seconds, whats happening at this point is your Treo Pro's CPU is scaling a bit for whatever reason, and by waiting 10 seconds, it should scale to 400Mhz and sit there, if you click "Ok" while it isn't scaled to 400mhz, the phone will just freeze, now, IMMEDIATELY after you click "ok", open PHM as fast as possible, otherwise before it can open and stop the scaling, your phone will just reset back down to 400mhz...
there is 1 problem though, these instructions are for my Treo Pro witch is clocked at 528, as you already know.... I don't know if its the big jump in CPU clock that freezes the phone, but if is, jumping from 400 to 768 might still be too big of a jump and will just freeze....
now, if it does work for you, the way I check to make sure I did it fast enough, is to use Nue Clock Control to see if it says "768mhz". I also use Nue Clock Control to clock my phone back down, Because closing PHM and letting it scale back down automatically only froze my phone. Letting my phone go to sleep also freezes it.
Well, thats it! Good luck!
xXHawkeyeXx, thank you so much for the tutorial!
But it is probably the device itself. None of the hacks worked for the GSM version, I even downgraded to wm 6.1 but nothing.
Still happy with 6.1 though =)

Awww, but we can't just give up there...
Its been confirmed that both devices use the same exact CPU, just clocked to a different default level. The oddest thing is, there's no reason Msm7kCpuSpeed shouldn't be starting up, I'm about ready to hard reset my phone and starting clean to see what exactly it was I did without noticing to get Msm7kCpuSpeed to start...
It would be a darn shame, I love the Treo Pro, and want other fellow Treo Pro owners to experience the joy of overclocking.
Yea, 6.1 does seem to run better IMO.
...well, if I can convince my self to try a hard reset, I'll let it be known, just that it would be a lot of work setting my phone up again.
Hi guys, I have not been able to try another ROM yet, I will give it a try in the weekend.
Ruben__ about the ROMS you tried, were they in english? Sometimes developers create their apps in english and do not support another languages...
Edit: looks like a couple of posts in the MSM7K... thread point to the Treo Pro.

Hi guys, I have not been able to try another ROM yet, I will give it a try in the weekend.
Ruben__ about the ROMS you tried, were they in english? Sometimes developers create their apps in english and do not support another languages...

Yeah, but it looks like the guy in that first post has his info a bit backwards... The CDMA Treo Pro isn't the one with the 400 Mhz clock.
At any rate, looking forward to hear how that trying a different ROM goes. Perhaps it was that all along since you both weren't using English ROMs.
I'll be trying this on my unlocked GSM Treo Pro, with stock English ROM build 19216.1.0.5, this weekend and report back my findings.
Just tried with 6.5 21884 Mord4z ROM in english (GSM unlocked Treo Pro) but unfortunately the same error message when opening MSM7... maybe other ROMS might work. I hope someone else has better luck than me!

That is some real Palm Treo Bro-ttitude!
But seriously don't! It is a pain to set things up again.
@ guilledil
I have tried different roms and nothing worked for me but I did find a program which is not that great but it does something. It's called 'speedbooster' and it doesn't really 'overclock' the phone but let you prioritize the cpu for program's. It will also let you improve the video speed but it's not that noticeable and it really drains my battery.
I think we gsm'ers are stuck @ 400 mhz
MSM failed to run on my stock unlocked GSM Treo Pro. It complained about the Compact Framework being too old on my device.
@hockeyfan: I think stock GSM does not have CF installed by default. In Mord4z 6.5 21884 ROM it comes installed. You could try installing CF 3.5 but it is not working for me in wm6.5.
@ruben__: I have been using Speedbooster for quite some time now and it does what it says... it is not overclocking but it is something. Guess other Treo Pro owners could try it. Well, we tried it but as you said, we GSM'ers only get 400 mhz!!
there's no way to overclock treo pro.i've tried many ways, but all lose.
