Would like to know is there any way to connect to wifi hidden network?
All of my devices (ie. Laptop, PSP, Windows Mobile PDA) are able to connect to the hidden network but the Magic can't. Any idea to do this?
Mine wifi connection is hidden (I didn't broadcast the SSID). If the I enabled the SSID broadcast, then only it can connect.
Do share some experience on this since I can't find any additional settings on the Magic.
Thanks!
settings>wireless controls>wifi settings>add wifi>fill in from there.
My old neighbor hide his wifi and i just typed in the name that used to pop up in the ssid and it worked just fine. I had to do it with every comp and wifi devise in our house.

Yep it's working. Thanks a lot!
We have to add it manually. Previously what I've done is I've unhide the wifi connection and broadcast the SSID in order for the Magic to see it. From there I've added the network to the Magic. Then I've set the network to hidden mode again. After that, the Magic won't connect to the hidden network. Main point is that it seems to remember whether the network is hidden or not when the network is added into the list.
** Windows Mobile does have an option to determine whether the selected network is a hidden network or not

Hey all, does anyone know how to get the Universal to connect to a hidden wireless network? I've got the router set up on WPA-PSK and know all its info but i cant seem to find anything which allows me to put in all the info and it will connect to it, when available, like i can on my computer. Only way that seems an option is through a VPN.
I've got it hidden just for security as well as MAC control (im in a high student/geek density area)
Cheers
JAmes.
If you have disabled SSID broadcast you need to add the SSID and the other parameters manually in the Pocket PC. Go to wireless settings, view wireless networks, add your own.
Ahh that worked
Dunno why I didnt notice that before, Doh!!
Thank you.

I've recently successfully enabled my XDA Mini S to talk to my home router over WiFi.
Does anyone have advice on how to enable "self discovery" of WiFi network, such as in aiports, cofee house etc
Thanks, balquidder
how did you do it mate...
been trying for ages

Networks that have already been configured (ie connected to and the WEP key entered etc) are classed as 'Preferred Networks. In the WLAN configurator, you can tick the checkbox which says 'Automatically connect to non-preferred networks', and this will search and (attempt to ) connect to any available network, preferred or not.
When this box is checked, the PDA will detect any new networks and give you the opportunity to configure them (if needed).
Hope this helps.
I have used this quite a bit when out and about - several hotels I have stayed at have had hotspots and I have had no issue in connecting with them and using the net as I would at home.
Hi guys,
I've got a netopia router (Irish "eircom" broadband) and while normal internet connections via laptop or PC (with USB Wifi dongle) work fine I just can't get my XDA Mini S to actually access the internet. I have managed to actually get it to connect via WIFI however when I launch internet explorer and click on a link it says it can't access using this connection.
"Can't connect with current connection settings. To change you connection settings, tap Settings".
Under connections I'm not sure what to select as I don't believe I need to setup a modem connection or VPN - am I wrong here??
It shows "connected" in the WIFI settings, indicating my SSID etc. Could someone advise me on what else I need to set. Basically I'm obtaining an IP address and my laptop etc work fine, just wondering what more I need to do to bash internet explorer into submission on the XDA. Is is just me or are Microsoft making this very hard on the normal user..
Start--> settings -->Wireless Lan
SSID is correct.. i.e my Wireless LAN
Mode : infrastructure
BSSID is set (though I don't know what this indicates)
TX Rate :auto
Channel :7
Start--> settings -->Wireless Lan - Advanced Tab
Status : Associated to Network
MAC number given
IP address given (so I guess DHCP is working fine)
Leap tab and Enroll tab - all settings blank.
------------------------------------------------
Start --> settings --> system --. Network cards
SSID shows Connected
Under Network Adapters tab : My network card connects to the Internet.
Adapter NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver. (not sure what difference this makes????)
I temporarily disabled WEP for the purposes of simplifying things.
Simple yet very annoying problem:
Go to Settings->connections->connections->advanced->network selection and make sure both combos read 'My ISP'.
Then, when connecting to your WiFi network select 'This network connects to the internet' (as I understand you already have this set under 'network adapters' so it should be ok).
THANK YOU!

Thank you so very much I have been look for this forever!!!
thanks so much for the tip too. i've been trying to fix my wifi ever since i upgraded to windows mobile 6 and this did the trick.
I cannot connect to my home network today. When going through all the settings, I see that the IEEE 802.1x checkbox is ticked, but greyed out. How can I remove either the network, or remove the IEEE setting ? I don't know how this changed, as it was working yesterday. I have two notebooks connected to the same router without any problems and neither has this check box ticked. so am presuming this is the problem - the problem being that it will not get an IP address. It finds the network but will not connect. I can see an option to edit the network, and remove the settings, but there is no option that I can see to remove the IEEE setting, or delete the network so I can start again, but am not sure this will prevent the IEEE setting from being selected by some other means. Obviously something caused it to select this, but I don't know what. I have removed any programs I have installed over the past day or so in the hope that this might have resolved it.
ieee802.1x == wifi network

Thanks for that. I realise now that when WEP is selected (which my network is) that IEEE is activated by default. This means that I have some other problem accessing the network. It detects the network, says "connecting" then reverts to available. Never had a problem with this before and at a loss to know how to resolve it. Will try to connect to another network that I know works tomorrow.

I also tend to experience similar problem,
there are networks I can never connect to even after configuration,
when other work great..
The problem is that it has never been a problem to connect to this, or any other network. The only change I have made to the PC, which connects to the same router as the X1a is that I have set up one of my browsers to access the internet via a proxy, but I don't think that would impact on the inability of the X1a to access it.
Hi
Using Sense V5
Zimage from Juliy 25.
problem.
I have my Wifi router configured with a hidden SSID and with no security.
When I try to setup the conecting I add the SSID name manualy, the new SSID showsup on the list of avaible networks but with poor connection. I try to connect and connect but it does not conect. If I Unhide the SSID them the connection is fine.
Any think I can configure?
Thanks!
Perhaps one of the networks in your neighberhood is running in the same channel?
It might be confusing since hidden networks dont send out their SSID's.
You could try changing the channel (1-11) it's using?
ps. Having a 'hidden' network without any encryption is not very safe, since even hidden networks are plain visible to most network sniffers (just not the windows "View networks" screen)

Hi
What I do is to filter the mac address.
Btw WinMO has an option when adding a Hidden SSID to set as "This is a hidden network" does andoid has the same option? I haven't found it
Thanks
Iosu
I have a hidden network (Channel not broadcast) with WPA-PSK encryption. I've used both the Desire V5 and Darkstone's Froyo V1, and the wifi works just fine. What I did just adding the channel manually, and the phone will connect itself.
Did you check the channel of your router like what Lostdreamer said?
