Connecting to hidden wireless networks - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

Hey all, does anyone know how to get the Universal to connect to a hidden wireless network? I've got the router set up on WPA-PSK and know all its info but i cant seem to find anything which allows me to put in all the info and it will connect to it, when available, like i can on my computer. Only way that seems an option is through a VPN.
I've got it hidden just for security as well as MAC control (im in a high student/geek density area)
Cheers
JAmes.

If you have disabled SSID broadcast you need to add the SSID and the other parameters manually in the Pocket PC. Go to wireless settings, view wireless networks, add your own.

Ahh that worked
Dunno why I didnt notice that before, Doh!!
Thank you.

under > CONFIGURE WIRELESS NETWORKS
i can see the available network named NETGEAR ----- which is the name of my wireless router, but it keeps displaying connecting/available only.

Check you've got the following settings in "Configure Wireless Network" on your Exec:
General tab:
Network name: NETGEAR
Connects to: The Internet
Network key tab:
Authentication: WPA-PSK
Data Encryption: TKIP
Network key: [whatever it is]
Also, make sure your WiFi network adaptor in your Exec is configured for static or dynamic IP, whatever your network router is set up for.

Don't forget to reset your access point. Sometimes a simple reset takes care of the connection problem.

Does it work on the HTC Universal?
Yes the software is written for PPC. And the screenshots are windows 2003.
It should work on HTC Universal. I'm testing the software now. (only 9 Euro's) It should create more overview when configuring the WiFi network.

Hi WizzarD-me,
If you are looking for a WiFi scanner. Try WiFiFoFum, it works great on the Universal.

Update
I was thinking. Since the option for connecting to the internet automaticaly does not indicate a WiFi connection... the PocketWinc program didn't find the WiFi cause i had my phone connection online.
After closing the program and turning of the phone connection and enabling the WiFi connection the program recognized the WiFi antenna.
Still experimenting with it at home. It has a Wifi Sniffer option in which you can set a WiFi sniffer interval. The program remembers the networks and you can set you favorites and even remember the settings on those.
The reason i set this program on this post was and still is for the overview of settings the program provides. You can sellect the network SSID and create a report of the IP configuration. There are several other interesting options like ping, trace route and more.
PS thanks for the link. I will check the WIFOFUM thingy
If anyone has the time could they help
I need someone to talk me through wifi..
I have xda exec but cant seem to get connected via access point..
I have installed the above software and wififofum. but nothing
Please help
router to have;
- ssid created, suggest a family name or similar, broadcast it
- dhcp enabled and auto control
- enable wep encryption (128 or 64 bit)
- use a shared key 9usually a choice of 4, pick one)
universal needs:
- wifi turned on!
_ start - settings - connections - network
- ypu should see it searching, cancel auto detects, do it manually
- in connections, add
- insert info above
* ssid
* choose wep encryption, shared, remove auto, enter the choosen key, txice
* slect and tell it which key number you chose (eg 1-4)
those are my settings to get it working initially
You can later if you want disable your dhcp, dns, wins n stuff
you may want to consider stopping broadcasting ssid later to prevent people looking for the network, but the wep key encryption should prevent all but the most enthusiastic genius from using the network.
this works on my netgear system.

8125 Wireless Issue

Hello all,
(Skip down to question if you don't feel like reading.)
I recently purchased my 8125 (almost brand new) from my boss, he had it for a week and didn't like it so he sold it to me for $100.
Please do not yell or flame me for this very n00bish question. I would appreciate it if you would read the entire post before yelling at me.
Yes, I have scoured the internet for solutions that are not quite specific to my issue.
Here is my network setup.
I have a Linksys WRT54G that any computer can connect to wired or wirelessly. However my 8125 can see every wireless 802.11b network. (I haven't modded it for G, yet.) I can walk around the mall, school, work, my house and see every wireless B network. I can even input the WEP security keys. The issue is I can not connect to the wireless network(s).
Here is what I have done to try and resolve this issue:
I first tried configuring my different connections, "enable for internet use", "disabling mediaNET Proxy", set up a new connection. None of those work, I always end up connection to GRPS for the internet. I
I have discovered that I can not connect to wireless network, with encryption enabled or disabled. I have tried a hard reset with to no avail.
So to simply state it for my first set of problems are,
I can not connect at all to a Wireless Network, I can see it but can't connect and every solution I've found out on the web has not helped.
Can you all please give me suggestions for help?
I'd also appreciate it if you would list everything step by step.
Thank you all very much in advance,
Duo
u have a tweak that has GRPS always on enabled.
I have the same Linksys AP as you and operate without any problem. What version of software are you running?
does it still not work with WPA turned off?

Sounds to me like your having "regular" networking issues rather than wireless specific ones.
If you go Start -> Settings -> Connections -> WIFI -> Network Adapters Tab -> From the list pick the one that has "Wireless Adapter" in the name and click on it. On mine it's called "SDIO WLAN Wireless Adaptor". Should be similar on yours
NOTE ON ABOVE: I have WM6 and if I recall some of the names of the control panel icons are different. I don't think it was called WIFI in previous versions. Root around for one which has the "Network Adapters Tab".
There you will find your IP address settings as well as your name server settings. (Both tabs). Make sure that the IP is set to "User Server Assigned IP Address" is set. Then go to the Name Server tab and make sure they are ALL BLANK. Nothing in them at all.
My suspicion is your boss changed these settings. Have a go anyway.
any problems following those bad instructions get back to us!

8525 problems???

I have been reading this forum and many others all day about the wifi problems people are having but none are like mine so I would like to ask this question, I turn on wifi and it will not find my network or any network around. I have tried to manually put in the ssid and ip address and still it will not connect that way either. I have checked and double checked all my router setting (currently set to open with no wep or anything) I am begining to wonder if the wifi is broken? My second problem I have found it when I change the connection setting to my isp I cannot connect to the internet. Maybe a bad setting, I am not really sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
is your router set to broadcast the ssid? if not then that is the problem. if this option is not enabled then no one can see your router.
as far as connecting via a cell connection, make sure you are using an operator cab. I am sure if you do a simple search you will be able to find a cab that will load all of the proper setting for a cellular internet connection.
who is your provider?
Yes, my router does bradcast the ssid and I have four computers and printers that find it without anyproblems. When i turn on wi-fi the phone doesn't even search for a network the icon shows up but I don't get the arrow that go back on forth to show that it is searching or connecting.
I am also having a problem with my 8525. I do get connected but i cant browse the net. Can someone tell me how to setup a connection from scratch to connect to wifi. Thanks

Search around on the Hermes forum. IE doesn't know to use the WiFi connection when it's available. There's a registry key setting that needs to be changed in order for IE to make use of the WiFi connection rather than going out over your data connection with your carrier.

Connecting to hidden wifi network

Would like to know is there any way to connect to wifi hidden network?
All of my devices (ie. Laptop, PSP, Windows Mobile PDA) are able to connect to the hidden network but the Magic can't. Any idea to do this?
Mine wifi connection is hidden (I didn't broadcast the SSID). If the I enabled the SSID broadcast, then only it can connect.
Do share some experience on this since I can't find any additional settings on the Magic.
Thanks!
settings>wireless controls>wifi settings>add wifi>fill in from there.
My old neighbor hide his wifi and i just typed in the name that used to pop up in the ssid and it worked just fine. I had to do it with every comp and wifi devise in our house.

Yep it's working. Thanks a lot!
We have to add it manually. Previously what I've done is I've unhide the wifi connection and broadcast the SSID in order for the Magic to see it. From there I've added the network to the Magic. Then I've set the network to hidden mode again. After that, the Magic won't connect to the hidden network. Main point is that it seems to remember whether the network is hidden or not when the network is added into the list.
** Windows Mobile does have an option to determine whether the selected network is a hidden network or not

WiFi and WPA2-PSK Hidden?

I have a Treo Pro and can't get it to connect to my home WiFi which is using WPA2-PSK and the SSID is Hidden. The issue is with it being hidden because when I go into the linksys settings and make it visible it can connect, but as soon as I make the network name hidden it can't connect.
BTW. My HP iPaq has no issue connecting to it hidden.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks
wpa2-AES is a lot better
but unless somebody is really out to get you psk should be secure enough to broadcast ssid
Even if your network isn't broadcasting its SSID wireless scanners can still pick it up. If a person is determined enough to brute force your passkey then they will most certainly be able to use NetStumbler.
