email auto check question

I have my email set to check for new mail every 30min
I have it set to check using "GPRS Settings"
My choices are:
GRPS Settings
MMS Settings
My Work Network
My ISP
Work
The Internet
What I'd like is that when I am on my Wifi network that my email uses Wifi to connect and when I am out it uses the GRPS settings. The outgoing mail servers are different for each location even though I am using the same account.
I don't think that anything can be done, but I thought i'd check. Thnx.

Cannot Connect to yahoo Mail on G1 using Hero. And No sound from speaker.

I have
G1
FW 1.5
MLIGN-HeroV3.0
I can't log into yahoo mail.
does it have something to do with a port? it's on port. 995.
And when I play music, it plays from the speaker that you hear from.
Not the one in the back.
Do you have Yahoo's paid service or just using the free version of yahoo mail? If you don't pay for the extra upgrade you can't get yahoo emails on your phone.

Okay here is the procedure on how to get the free version of Yahoo mail WORKING on your G1.
Make Sure your WiFi Connection is turned OFF first, before you tell me this does not work.
Go to your Email icon > Press Menu > Add Account
Type in your full yahoo email address including @yahoo.com
Type in your password
Go to manual setup > Press IMAP account and change to these settings....
Incoming server settings
Imap server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
port - 143
security type - TLS (if available)
Press Next, It will check your incoming server settings, then it takes you to the Outgoing Server Settings
Outgoing Server Settings
SMTP Server- smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
port - 25
security type - TLS (if available)
* check Require sign-in
Press Next, Verifying Out Going Settings, Press Next at Account options unless you need to change a setting.
Give your account a name (optional ) - i called my Yahoo Mail and click Done
Hope this works out for those that could not get this done.

Midnight scarab, The reason why you are getting this message is if you chose TLS (Always). I tested it with that setting and got the same message "TLS required but not supported by server". Try it again hope that helps.

Psychoace, the only thing I know of that would cause the invalid username or password is having the wifi connection turned on. The initial setup needs to be done over a 3G connection. If that does not work let me know and I will try to help you out some more..
Thanks a TON! As always I searched all over but should have came to XDA in the first place

Can't send e-mail with authentication

My outgoing mail server requires authentication (the incoming server doesn't). But it just won't work. I'm connecting through Wi-Fi and using the exact same settings as in Outlook. I always get the same error message (see screenshot).
I am entering the mail settings in Start/E-mail/Menu/Options not in Mail/Account Settings - which does not remember the authentication username and password (this is discussed in another thread).
This is driving me nuts. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know anything about outgoing e-mail authentication?
Yes I have this problem to can any won help to shed some light on this subject
Im using about 20th ROM on my HD2 and there is no problem with SMTP authentication. Just only set CORRECT SMTP server name and login name and password. And it does work on GPRS, HSDPA, Active Sync, WIFI without problems... I dont understand what is your problem...

Thanks Petulinek,
I am using the exact server name, login name and password that I am using in Outlook. I have checked it many times but it is still not working. I have tried it on Active Sync and WIFI.
On your screenshot is strange message. I think it try email send via data connection, not via AS. Is in your Active sync set that connection connects to internet?

Yes, I can use Active Sync to access the Internet. I can receive e-mail and browse and remote desktop etc. but not send e-mail.
On email settings, page with SMTP server - Advanced server settings - is in network connection "The internet"?

Yes it is set to 'The Internet' but I have also tried 'Work'.
Petulinek,
Do you know what type of Authentication is supported by HTC Mail?
My server supports PLAIN/PLAIN TEXT, CRAM-MD5 or DIGEST-MD5.

trouble setting up my yahoo email...

I can't seem to get my yahoo email accounts to work when I try to set them up on the email app. Any idea what can be wrong or what I can do?
I had this problem as well, it wouldn't automatically set up so I put in the mail servers manually. To do so type in your email and password then select manual setup. Choose IMAP as the option after that and then set the incoming mail server to imap.mail.yahoo.com and then select next and then set the outgoing mail server to smtp.mail.yahoo.com and then select next then go through the rest of the set up and you should be good, worked for me.
Still can't get it to work keeps telling me my password or username is incorrect.
Are you sure that you have switched off any wifi connection on the phone? It will not connect over wifi but over your phone 3g/g connection.

E-mail doesn't get updated

Hello, guys
My e-mail used to be updating correctly the first few days. (set 2 hours interval). But now it isn't. Is it because I already opened the new e-mails in my PC? I use Yahoo, FYI. One more thing, how to refresh the e-mail? Like update now option in weather and twitter. Thanks.
try send/receive and see if you get all the emails you've already read come through.....
Sometimes emails will update on wifi only as you'll need to go into email setup manually and choose your connection...
That could be your problem...
Had the same problem but solved it as follows:
Goto Settings, Wireless controls, Menu, Connections, Set up my proxy server.
If the box 'This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet' is checked, uncheck it! This works for me every time.
