Hi
is there any program which turns on WIFI for windows email checking and turn it off afterward(even in standby state)?
Would LOVE it !
Yes there is But, its not free, it's $10.00. The app is called "ct scheduler" It'll allow you to turn on/off wifi at anytime you like and however many times you like. Theres more features also, like turning on/off bluetooth, sending a sms at a given time, schedule a softreset, adjust volume at chosen times, and more. i love this app, but again, it's $10.00.

I think you mean SKSchema.
What I'm looking for is this:
An app that uses the GPS to turn WiFi ON at predetermined coordinates.
So for example, I walk to the coffee shop, GPS knows I'm getting close, turns WiFi ON. WiFi auto-connects while I'm there, as I step out, it times out at the preset time (part of wm6). I drive to the office, again, GPS know to turn Wifi ON and phone then auto connects to the network there. Same when I get back home.
This will save me some $ on data plan and get me a faster connection when I'm in a friendly wifi zone.
Thoughts?

Anyone else noticed that the Jasjar will disconnect all network connections if you put in into standby for more than 5 mins?
my XDAII never did that and I keep my mesenger programs on all the time. The Jasjar drops me out after 5 mins of standby and its getting very annoying.
Anyone know if theres a hidden setting/registry setting i can force it to stay on? I dont have the dissconnect if not used checkbox checked for wireless and there doesnt seem to be one for GPRS/3G.
Thanks
Stot
Well it seems that its only doing this for my WiFi connection not GPRS/3G but its a pain in the posterior. Id like to recieve messages when in the warehouse on wifi and the unit is in standby :?

Do you have the power saving set for the WiFi?
well the best I can do is slide the slider to the "best performance" end and make sure the turn off if not used checkbox isn't checked. its not actually turning off the wireless its just dropping connection til I open the device agiain then it re-connects
cheers

Hmmm I was quite sure my MDA Pro didn't do that. You're right - it certainly doesn't for 3G / GPRS. Quite possible to close the device and leave it, then come back a bit later and still be on MSN etc.
but I thought mine did it on WiFi too?
For the mobile signal time to time it try to pick wcdma instead of GSM if it doesnt find the WCDMA then it goes for GSM... after a while again it search for it...
You can disable this by going to Start-Settings-Personal-Phone & Then under Band u will find Auto which you can set it to GSM which will stay to GSM instead searching for WCDMA time to time...
well if you would like to give it a try Timetex, and anyone else, I'd love to know if its just me. make sure GPRS doesn't kick in, maybe turn off the phone. I'm using Jasjars 1.13 updated rom from clubimate.
Cheers

If anyone followed this and didnt like it either I came up with a work around.
I sent my power settings to NEVER turn off on battery. the Backlight still will but the unit doesnt. Now with the Jasjar we have a clam design and I dont know about you but when im not using it its closed, i.e. screen and backlight off.
Tested this all out today, on 3G and GPRS for 1/2 the day, WiFi the rest. Took a number of photos, listened to an album, made some phone calls. Average use. It lasted all day and still has 32% battery left. Plus when I open it up, BING its on every time and it stays connected to the WiFi.
Dont spose there are reg settings that decide what turns off when you close the clam?

Dear all,
I'm wondering about Wifi telephony on the QTEK 9100.
It works fairly well with various software soutions. However, the phone has to stay "fully on" (except backlight) in order for th Wifi connection to remain up. This alters battery life severely.
I'm wondering if it is possible to have the Wifi connection stay up during power save mode, with some kind of "Wake on WLAN" event that would wake up the phone so that IP phone software can process incoming data.
Some of it already happens for GSM. I'm wondering whether the GSM part is "fully independant" (like on a different processor), or if it's handled by the main processor. In the later case, it may be possible to achieve something similar with Wifi telephony.
Thanks in advance for any hint.
so there is no way having WIFI enabled and lettign the pda go to sleep mode / power save mode ??
is there an APP that leaves power save mode off if the WIFI is enabled, so only the screen goes of light, and the pda stays on ?

It's fully independent. It's very cleverly written; this is why, for example, listening to incoming IMAP IDLE or Push Mail callbacks don't require the CPU at all.
yes i got that part on my own, thats why the GPRS connection stays on... but still there should be a registry somewhere to prevent device to go to sleep if WIFI conneciton is made..
tried all the powermode stuff in regisrty, nothn worked... out of clue...

I don't think you can do this - the WI-Fi module is completely independent of the radio module. Furthermore, you'll constantly need a LOT of power to keep the Wi-Fi connection up, as opposed to GSM/GPRS, where handshaking is only done during roaming to another cell and/or every (AFAIK) 10-20 minutes. Otherwise, the PDA doesn't trasmit anything, a sopposed to the Wi-Fi case.
That is, it seem sit's impossible to do any long-term Wi-Fi "listening" in the current Wi-Fi / PPC architecture.

all i need is a tool that disables POWERSAVE mode if WIFI connections is made, or even if WIFI is enabled...
that would do all the work....
anyone ?
i think the closest thing is in phm powertoys (http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/PowerToys/)
the screensaver option... what it does is turn off your touchscreen like in "sleep" mode but if u use this you might want to disable the power save option cause while u have screensaver on its still gonna count down n shut off ur ppc hope this helps!
My 8125 is about a month old now and it is great. It’s my first experience with push email and it’s wonderful. I do have a few problems that I can not find a fix for. I have read many forums and have come to the conclusion that these features are either broke or were meant to work incorrectly.
1.) If you leave Pocket Outlook as the foreground task the 8125 will not notify you in any way that you have a new message. You have to turn the device on to check for new email. If Pocket Outlook is not running or its running in the background the phone will beep and the orange light will blink. If the phone is in standby it should notify you of a new message no matter what.
2.) The Bluetooth LED is always blinking. I always use a Bluetooth headset and it’s very common when I am driving to leave iNav GPS software running that uses a Bluetooth GPS. There is no reason for me to ever turn Bluetooth off so I do not need to be notified it is on or off. It would be nice if I could change the Bluetooth LED to notify me of voice mail or a missed call and the orange light can be used for new push email or SMS/MMS messages.
3.) When you open the keyboard it should light up. If you are in a dark room you have to open the keyboard the press a key to get it to light up. I also have not found a way to change how long it stays on for. There are a few reg hacks that claim they change the time but they do not work on my 8125.
4.) Every time I use WiFi I have to change my internet profile so it does not use a proxy. When you turn the WiFi radio on it should automatically change that info. When you turn WiFi off it should change it back automatically.
The following two have nothing to do with the 8125 but if someone has a fix it would be helpful.
5.) When you use push email your IT department can force a policy on the phone to ask for a password every 30 min of inactivity. This is a real pain if you are using a GPS. I found a reg hack that lets me change it to 24 hours but the policy gets forced on the device once a day and I have to run the reg hack again. Has anyone found a way around this?
6.) iNAV GPS Software has a bug that makes the voice navigation on all WM5 devices go very very very slow. The fix is to turn off the GPRS radio. When you do that all your push emails do not come in. iNAV claims they are working on a fix but I was curios if anyone found a way around this issue.
If anyone has any advice on these items it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
SeanH
There is no fix for the keyboard light issue. It is a flaw in the way it was built and is a hardware-activated light, so registry keys won't do anything.
Sorry, but that's all I have for you.

I don't have a fix but just work around. What i am doing is to create a separate connection for wi-fi (no proxy). When you need to use wi-fi instead of gprs, you can simply select this connection from settings-->connections-->advanced-->select networks. Hence you don't have to remove the proxy settings for gprs everytime you use wi-fi. It takes a few steps but still easier than add/remove proxy settings. Hope this helps.

I have a T-Mobile MDA (US) and use Pocket Informant v5 as the default PIM. I don't normally have PI in the foreground but haven't noticed this behavior under any circumstances.

Just touch the bottom right key or the spacebar and the keyboard backlight will turn on without affecting anything else. I've heard complaints about this but I can't see why this is an issue. OTOH, the timing of the backlight is another matter, and it should be adjustable. Alas, it appears not to be.

I'm using iGuidance v3 and haven't noticed this, but GPRS isn't being used. I'm not sure how to enable/disable it, but in Settings > Connections > GPRS it is set to "Chap Authentication." When upgrading firmware I do not auto-load the Ext. ROM programs and have only a few loaded manually, so the GPRS functionality may not be fully implemented. Needless to say, I am not subscribing to internet service at this time.

In a dark area it’s hard to see the keyboard until it lights up. I use the right arrow to get this display to light up. When you press the space bar it will enter a space in what ever app is active. Not turning the light on when the keyboard opens is a design flaw. Most people open the keyboard to use it. As soon as you press any key the light comes on so you can see the keys. It just makes sense to turn the keyboard light on when you open it so you can start typing.

It looks like iNavcorp is in the process of posting a fix. This is from there web site.
Patch file (for DVD version only)
This patch will correct slow voice guidance speed issue on ppc phones as well as some other minor syntex/routing errors on ppc, laptop, and umpc/car pc versions. It also includes few new features such as panning mode exit timer as well as timer reset code for ppc phone edition.

Was having a debate elsewhere and a few of us have realised, that we are not actually sure what this does and if really required?
I turned mine off a while back for example and my widgets would still update as I wanted and I still received emails etc.
Therefore can anyone actually explain what "Always on Internet" is actual for?
I read a somewhere on Google that the G1 users in the past who used the "Always on" option, found that when they went abroad, they were getting charged a fortune in roaming charges. Is this a sneaky reason for it being included maybe?
There's another setting which enables / disables data whilst roaming.
Personally I have found that it is better to have the Internet Always on as it is quicker for any app to use the data connection. With it off, sometimes apps failed but since enabling it again, no probs
Vince
I think what the option does is leave the 3G or whatever connected so that when apps need it your phone doesn't need to reconnect each time.
Without it checked i imagine apps will connect the 3G, download the data they need, then disconnect the 3G connection.
Makes sense anyway, ive never had it off.
If you turn on the always on internet, your device will stay connected to the intenet so you dont have to keep connecting, if you turn it on, you can still connect to the internet when needed but it will turn it back off after x amount of minutes idle i think lol

Thanks for just rewording my post....
Cheers guys, have put mine back on, just hope battery drain doesn't get too bad.
Hi,
i'd like to save some battery on my desire and i think WiFi is draining the battery a lot.
Like many people i use wifi only at home but i forget to turn off wifi often and then the phone is searching for new wifi networks all the time.
Is there an app out there which turns off wifi automatically when a certain wifi network is out of range? Switching on manually is no problem, cause when i use internet at home i realize quick that i am on 3G and not Wifi. I think there is no way for an auto-on/auto-off.
Any ideas?
thanks
There's an app called Sweet Dreams that turn Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Ringer/ on or off based on some things like current day, hour of the day, location, sound in the room, movement of the handset.
It's more focused on saving battery and turning sound down when you sleep but works perfectly for what you need.
There's also something like Locale
thx, but i think both apps use GPS for the Location which drains the battery again
A Simple:
If wifi XXX is out of range for more than 5 minutes -> turn off wifi
Or you can use "Setting Profiles" which I use and prefer much more over "Locale"
With Setting Profiles you have the option to save a location based on either
Lat/lon or Cells ids or WIFI location.
Also has reverse logic

Well both have the option of using GPS but it can work just fine with cell triangulation. If your GPS is off it can work just fine based only on approximation from GSM towers, similar to what Google Maps does for the "My Location" feature.

Well if you want it to turn off WIFI when your leaving home and get out of reach of your WIFI you do the following:
1. Press "locations" and press the menu button and press "New location". Choose "Wi-Fi AP Identified" and put a mark where it says the name of you WiFI at home. and name it like "Home"
2. Now press the profiles button and create 2 profiles. First one you can call "At Home" and set it up like you want you telefon with WiFi enabled and so on when your at home.
Next create another profile and call it something like " Away from Home" and set it up with WiFi disabled and so on like you want it.
3. Now press the "Rules" button and press menu again and create a new rule.
Again press "Menu" and then "Add condition" and choose location you just created before.
Now press Menu and choose "add action" and choose "Activate profile" and choose the profile "At Home" that you created before.
4. Now press the "Rules" button and press menu again and create a new rule.
Again press "Menu" and then "Add condition" and choose location you just created before. But this time put a mark in "Inverse condition logic"
Now press Menu and choose "add action" and choose "Activate profile" and choose the profile "Away from Home" that you created before.
Now your telefon is set to turn off Wifi and what else you want off when you leave reach of your network at home and also it is set to turn back WiFi on when you get back home in reach of your network.
Simple once you learn the logic of setting up profiles and so on. And extremely powerfull as you can basicly set and rule and action for anything you want and get it to do anything you want.
Hope that helped a bit.
Ahh i see.. Ive set that up..
Now i need to figure a way to turn bluetooth on when im in the car lol...

That isn't going to work, when coming back from 'Away from Home' the wifi is in an off state therefore it won't detect that it is back in the home wifi range.
You need to set-up lon/lat for the wifi to turn back on again.

No, I think it works out your location using the mobile network masts
I thought the HTC desire switched over to the 3G network when out of range of the wifi anyway.
How do you know for sure that it continues scanning for a wireless network?
And if this is certain, does it do this only when the phone is on and not in stand-by?
I think the best way to approach this is something like Nokia have.
Get the networks (wifi or 3g) in order of preference to connect. Then when sync is need if you have wifi network in a major priority of an 3g, the phone try to connect first to the wifi, if not in range go to 3g.
i downloaded the y5 app form the market and used it for a full day, i say it works amazing like how you want it...
at first i thought it was not working because when i was out of range, the wifi didnt turn off...but i found out why
when you first got your y5 app, open it and it will auto remember your wifi AP(if you are connected to the wifi AP when opening the app)
ok now the tricky part is setting it to turn off, you have to go out of range from the wifi(just go out the house until there is clearly no signal), then manually turn off the wireless.....
ok now go back into the wifi range, voila it will turn itself back on! and go away from it, will turn wifi off!
=D tried and tested....
ps: if you dont manually turn it off when you go out of range for the first time, it somehow wont auto turn wifi off after that......for me at least...
Does it have to be automatic? ToggleWifi shows a not connected icon in the topbar when you have wifi on and not connected. And it is not a widget, so you can customize the icon for wifi (which acts as a wifi toggle)

- cause i get a notification when an open wifi is awailable, and in addition, how should the phone know that i am at home without scanning (and do an auto connect)?
- second is true, i set at the wifi-policies that wifi is turned off when in standby
