Has anyone had any problems with the new Garmin XT update version 4.20.40w. I updated yesterday and now it will no longer find a GPS located on com 4, it will only find the "GPS Intermediate Driver." If anyone else has experienced this problem, or has any answers please help me out. Thanks
I'm using DCD 3.0.0, with Sprint.

Sounds like a similar issue with 4.20.30. I would stick with 4.20.20, as that is verified as working.
Thanks for the reply roninld. I did not know there was an issue with 4.20.30, guess I will go back and downgrade.

Where can I get the 4.20.20 version? I don't see an option to download previous versions on their website.
I am currently running version 4.10.40
Version 4.20.20 can be downloaded here: http://www.gpsinformation.org/perry/gps10/GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42020w.exe
I've been using "GPS Intermediate Driver" since start using Garmin Mobile XT. When upgraded to 4.20.40, it tried to hook up with COM4, but very slow. I went back directly to the Intermediate Driver.

I've thought about trying that and seeing how that works out. What's the difference between Intermediate Driver and the actual GPS on COM4. I wonder if there is any accuracy difference?
4.20.50w is now out from Garmin. I'm going to download it to my phone soon. I haven't has problems with Mobile XT. .3 and /4 have been fine with me.
hey guys, quick question. Garmin works well on my mogul, but i realized it's using the "intermediate driver" My main questions are: What exactly does that mean, and is it a bad thing?
I've tried setting it to use com4, but it searches and i guess automatically sets itself to intermediate. I'm running 4.20.50 btw

At least for me, it seemed like whenever I went to the Intermediate Driver, my time would reset back to a previous time date. That was one of the main problems with any version above 4.20.20wp that I ran into.
Thanks

Oh well actually i was just looking to find out what it means to be using the intermediate driver, as opposed to com4 and whether or not it's a bad thing.

I had the same problem and went back to 4.20.20wp. I'm hoping a new version will fix this.

I think i've deduced that it only screws up the clock if it isn't able to get a sat lock and then you exit. Otherwise it works fine for me, as long as it gets a sat lock, even using the intermediate driver.

.50w runs faster than the previous versions (screen response, route calculation, etc) I've noticed, and much more stable than .30w or .40w.
Seems to me tho that 0.50w will always go for the intermediate driver, and hence the time reset. 0.20w the serial com4 setting stays 'sticky' so no problem with reset time even if a lock not found.
I am having a problem with Mobile XT not closing the GPS connection correctly when you exit the application. If I shut my phone off/on and run mobile XT the program runs great with no issues. GPS is flawless on com4. When I exit the application there is no errors however if I try to restart the GPS never works again. Also the GPS will cease to function in other apps such as Google Maps. A soft-reset does not fix the issue either. I have to actually shut the phone off/on to gain use of the GPS again...any thoughts? Running DCD 3.2.6 and radio 3.42.50
Ok... This is the first time I've tried Garmin Mobile XT. I want to know what the hype's about. What am I missing to get this to work? I downloaded and installed verzion .50.. but without a "Registration code" It won't let me connect to anything but a Garmin device.
I currently use TomTom 7
Hehe well you need to install the app then turn around and grab city navigator to put maps on it. There are "sites" around that provide what you need. As to my issue I think I narrowed it down to when I actually lock the phone with windows mobile. If I do not lock it things appear to work fine...
Now why use garmin XT over the others. Only reason is NAVTEQ. Navteq maps are by far better compared to the crap TeleAtlas has. Living in Iowa, I think TeleAtlas forgot we were a state whereas Navteq at least gives a damn heh.
iGo8, Tomtom = teleatlas
Garmin XT = navteq
Gotcha. Ok.. I got it to allow me to see the GPS... now I just need the maps. I'm trying to get them off of my C330 using gpsdaemon. just not having any luck
hi folks,
how do you folks use gps? I have a p3600, already flashed w/ akeo wm6.1 build 19965; i read somewhere that if it's at version wm 6.1 that gps should already been enabled. anyway, I installed iGuidance version 3.0 and it couldn't find the gps. just thought how you folks use the gps.
thanks!
You should flash your PDA also with latest radio 1.56.70.11. Then you will have good working GPS
Make sure you've got it set to use com9
no luck

i upgraded radio to 1.50, and used com port 9 but still no luck.
it still thinks i'm at another location but i can't get it to figure out that I'm not there anymore.
i recall, as I had another phone to play w/ that, i had to do something similar to that 'quick gps' download, then another one that actually kind of tells gps(?) where i'm at. is there something similar on the trinity? if not, what else can I do? what do you guys use? or the process that you go through.
thanks alot!
Also check the baud rate. Look in settings > system > external gps
mines set to com9 baud rate 115200
Make sure your GPS app is set to the same.
My radio rom is 1.56.70.11 but you should be fine with 1.50 & you're right, wm6.1 does have GPS enabled.
I'm using TomTom 7. It can can up to 10 minutes before it gets a signal. I have tried QuickGPS but am not convinced it makes any difference. Make sure you're outside too.
still no luck.

so you just set these settings - com port, baud rate w/ in the 'external gps' settings, and in tomtom 7, it just works? you don't have to do anything else?
oh i would just love to get this working. thanks!
what rom are you using?
btw, what rom are you using? the default one? or a customized one?
I googled around and came across htc's site where there's a rom download that'll enable gps (and get free tomtom 6) but when I input my serial number it says it's not suitable for my device, did anyone try this?
http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=3&cat=2&dl_id=111
that's right, stick em in and it's all go! I'm currently using g77 wm6.1 rom, the current one in his post in the wm6 forum but it's worked with every rom I've used, from wm5 up. Have you tried any other programs that can use gps? There's a few free ones aout, I know Wififofum can use it.
That's the original wm5 rom, it's old, not sure why it's got a recent date. Think there was a post in the wm6 forum about it the other day.
How long are you waiting for it to get a fix? I've never used iGuidance before, does it say anything like waiting for fix or saterlites?

I downloaded Wififofum and on the bottom it shows "GPS: NotFix (0)", i'm using com port 9, i think this is the correct one as if I change to another com port, it just keeps saying "re-connecting". My radio version is pretty recent - 1.4.6 or so (same as yours actually). could the GPS be defective?
if I use iGuidance, it just says 'waiting for gps signal'
for your first GPS fix, it could take a very long time, even more if you're moving.
When you got some spare time, put your trinity close to a window, start up your GPS app, and leave it there for a while. Trinity has no aGPS, and I'm not sure if there's any software that can get it, and pass the data to any GPS app running.
If you change GPS configs on iGuidance, does the message 'waiting for gps signal' change to something else like "no GPS device" or so?
it works!!! yeh!!
hey guys, thanks so much for helping me out!
It works. I guess all this time, even though I put the phone right by my window here at the office it still wasn't good enough, I had to get out of my office and sit on some benches and after a couple of minutes iGuidance was able to know and show me exactly where I was.
the bottom line was I wanted to make sure that the gps wasn't defective....
thanks so much again for all you guys' help!
Aloha from Hawaii!
Hi,
I still have my Telus branded Touch and was wondering if there was a way to get the gps working even though the phone isnt active any longer with Telus? Before it dialed into some remote server to get a really quick gps lock. I only recently pulled this thing out of the drawer cause I figured I may as well leave it in my car as a standalone tomtom gps unit. It wont lock onto any satalites though.
Any ideas? I used to have a external bluetooth gps receiever but I cant find that anywhere either.
I'm wondering if its just the rom thats on this thing.... I'm running the standard telus rom. If another rom has the ablity to lock onto GPS without the need for a cellular connection I'd be willing to try that out.
Thanks again!

I am on Verizon. I don't know the specifics about Telus. If your GPS is unlocked then technically you should be able to use your GPS without your radio being turned on. Even use it with the radio turned on & use TomTom which does not require a data connection.
As far as getting your GPS to work, I don't exactly know if the process is simular to Verizon. Perhaps someone else will lend you a hand. I did find some threads for you though.
Take a look at NFSFAN's ROM's

I know there is a "hybrid" gps setup on the the vogue that you can tweak in the registry to get only the gps chip to lock. Try searching for "hybrid gps" and such in this forum and the dev/hacking forum. It was discussed at length a little while after the htc rom upgrade releases last year.
If you are willing to upgrade to NFSFAN's Windows Mobile 6.5, you can follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3680840#post3680840 and in Post #5 there is a cab that will disable aGPS so it won't look for a connection to help. With this you will be solely reliant on the phone's Full GPS chip, which may take anywhere from 1-5 minutes to get a full lock. It's not as sensitive as an external bluetooth GPS receiver. You can find this and other GPS/Winmo upgrades in the Vogue upgrading section of xda.

Once he upgrades it will work just like a standalone TomTom unit. I don't sound like he is going to have the phone activated anyway. The Standalone TomTom units take about 1-5 minutes to lock anyway.

Right, that why I suggested it. Since he won't be using it with service, there's no reason to stick with the stock ROM.
I have a p3300 obviously that i bought with wm6 already on it. The problem is, there is no trace of gps in the registry and in the settings there is only an option for external gps, nothing more. Is there a way to install drivers for the gps only? I'm not sure i'm comfortable flashing seeing as there are so many roms out there for different carriers.. I'm on fido in canada btw

Hi
If you mean GPS program, you could always install Navigon.
http://www.navigon.com/portal/sites.html
There is a 30 days free testversion of their Navigator7.
Just remember to change COM-port from 4 to 7 on either the device or in the program.
Oh my mistake, what I meant was that I can not get any satellites with any program. I flashed it yesterday to WM6.1 (Andrew82) but aside from some slight improvements, it made no difference to the function of the gps. I cannot get a fix from any software that i've tried, it's as if the GPS isn't there (although gps test 1.04 says that the gps is starting up, nothing happens). Are there some drivers or something that I can install?
I tried setting com ports to 7/none/4800/auto However, I though it was supposed to be 4/none/4800/auto in the settings, no?
Also if it helps, I only have a setting for external gps, there is nothing with just GPS there in system...
I've tried all kinds of resets, factory rom, but its the same story im afraid... Any ideas HIGHLY appreciated
Also, the HTC gps tool says "Fix not available"

It is only the NAVIGON software that uses COM7.
Others I have seen, use COM4. - (So unless you change to Navigon, use COM4.)

I also use AndreW82, but it has no GPS software.
So I use Tomtom Navigator 7
If you use other GPS-software, - have you checked that the program asks for COM4?
Probably som .dat file or something that needs to be altered to COM4.
I had the same problem when I tried Navigon.
First it reported "no GPS found" But after I altered one of the .dat files to COM4, it found the GPS.
(But it took a veeeeeeeeery long time before it found the first sattelites.)
If you want to try, I have attached a test-version of Tomtom. (tomtom7.cab below)
According to Tomtom, NO such testversion exists.
But if you try it, you will at least see if your GPS is working.
(I don't know if it has any maps for Canadian Cities, but at least it should let you see if it finds any sattelites.)
1. Install the cab.
2. Start Tomtom Navigator
3. If settings does not come up automatically, just tap somewhere on the screen.
4. Select, Change preferences
5. Tap blue arrow 5 times
6. Tap Config GPS
And wait for it to find sattelites. Be patient, first time it takes a little longer time.
Hello androids,
I'm another n00b trying to kill my phone
I tried to flash some roms from this forum for my Tattoo, with different versions of OS (1.6, 2.1, 2.2). My preferences goes to Pancake 1.0.6; anyway I tried to see if all works and I get stuck with the GPS:
when I turn it on and start a navigator like NDrive or Navigon, they says "No GPS".
If I quit these programs, switch of the GPS from my tattoo and restart one of these programs (of course I tried one by one) they let my switch on the GPS receiver. Then back to the navigator, it tries to reach some satellite without an end. Also, there's no GPS icon in the topbar when the navigator, or another program that uses the GPS receiver, is working.
So I tried to switch back to a backup of my original rom without success. I also tried to flash another rom with 1.6 version like the original one, but without good results.
Can someone help me?
Yeaaah!
I've made a flash with the original rom for the HTC Tattoo and now it works!
Ok, let's retry some custom roms

Good evening,
I have the same problem.
I've switched back to the original rom but nothing work.
The GPS seems on but no application can use it.
Please help us .
Thank you.
I guess this is a very common problem on tattoo. My phone sometimes connects to satelites but sometimes not.I have tryed severals programs like GPS STATUS which show that there are satelites in view , but the programs just don't connect to them.Any solution ?
The Tattoo always needs a lot of time for connecting to satellites. If your inside a building it probably never will. So maybe that's the simple solution. Just go outside where it's got better connection.

My Tattoo needs less then 1 or 2 minute to connect to satellites, but now never. I've tested that the only ROM that is able to connect to satellite is the SP-Froyo AOSP. I've tried lot of ROM, my original nand backup, other 1.6, 1.6 SenseUI, 2.1, 2.2 but nothing to do. The only one is the SP-Froyo AOSP. Anyone can help us with this issue??? Lot of thank in advance.
You may try Ndrive 10 it is the only program that runs smoothly for me and connects to satelites even from my room.
