replacement for mogul??? - Mogul, XV6800 General

Ok so during a party.. i dropped my phone in the back yard.... didnt realize it until the next day when i couldnt find it... well when i walked outside (in the cold rain) I found it under 3" water...
well the phone works... still works like a champ... but however only one thing is not working.. I cant get the screen to recalibrate...
i reset the phone.. didnt work... put OEM rom on it and when you boot it up.. it says... tap here to setup ... well I tap and that works (so touchscreen working????) then go to click the middle of the screen but to no avail.....
put the rom in my sig back in.... and on touch flo I can slide my finger across the bottom..... back and forth... but then stops working...... weird...
went to sprint to "see what would happen"... guy opened it up and said that there was this small piece of corrossion... you could barely see it but i wasnt about to argue.... he said i had to go through insurance.... he then said insurance is up to $125!!!! WTF!!!! I pay $7 a month for 2 phones minimum!!!!! to overpay for a replacement!!!!! im cancelling the insurance...
but i do have $175 credit with sprint.... do they have a replacement yet? lady on the phone tried getting me to buy the touch pro.... $575 - $175 - $100 MIR = $300 up front and $200 after rebate.... dont want to put that out right now....
all the palm stuff means all my apps wont work.... so that sucks...

Well the touch pro is wm so I dont know why you think it is palm. And submit a claim online on assursion website. I am fairly certain is is not $125

sorry for the confusion on the palm side... i was trying to say that the touch pro is too much for me right now.. i could go with one of the palms but then all my apps are no good....
also i just checked on the website and the deductible is $100.... so not sure what im gonna do yet.... need a phone...
my wife wants me to use her fusic.... but it wasnt good enough for her....but i guess it is ok for me now... i need my wm!!!!!!! NEED MY XDA ROMS!!!!!!!!!!!

Start the insurance claim. It will state which phone your phone will get replaced with. You might be a upgraded to the 6850 which is the TP. Heck $100 is great for a TP.

You could do surgery. More than likely the corrosion is causing a short. A small fine brass brush & a 5x eye loop could do the trick. I've had to do this at least 3 times with my girlfriends phone (her work environment and constant need to have on hand. Inevitable). I found corrosion (the blueish kind) in the connectors between the head and body & the USB connector. It's amazing how hardy these phones seem to be (3in water. wow).
But reading your post. I would say you still have water in the screen. This causing a short. For a few bucks you can get a screw driver set & pry tool to open.

well I bit the bullet..
$100 through insurance..
this phone appears to be new.... as in I do not see one scratch or blemish on the body or screen. Also there were yellow clear tape on the side buttons and bottom ir.
well this thing also seems really fast compared to my last one... even with the default rom.
I really liked the rom in my sig but im gonna hold off as I got SPB Mobile Shell 3.0 and really like it... was using that before....
It has
rom version 3.56.651.0
rom date 06/16/08
radio version 3.42.02 - gonna go to 3.50 after i get all my apps loaded and test the gps
hardware version 0003
prl version 60652
pri version 2.04_003
so far so good
without SPB running (in ROM stock form) = 24.6mb free
with SPB Running = 18.9mb free

They just recently sent me one too. What you should have done is call retentions and argue with them. Worked for me . They constantly screw my bill up and when I finally needed something they came through. They credited my account $100 then assurion charged me $100 for the claim in my bill so it washed out. Only problem is they sent me a defective one so after more yelling they decided to give me a new one. Also, just an fyi, but the refurbs they send out have new faceplates and casings so they look new but the "guts" are refurbs. I'm told there are usually no hardware probs (except the one I had) and the software is something a good custom rom can't fix.

Dunno if you've had any luck yet or not,. I have a parts unit at home, It used to be my wifes phone until the day she wanted me to replace the casing on it since it was scratched. Long story short, I have a working screen boards but the cable that goes between the slide outs is damaged and I never found a replacement for it.
Let me know if your interested it any of the parts. The keyboard is brand new, casing is new. Screen is used but has no scratches. Im not really trying to make any money but it would be nice to get some money back I invested in this thing.
PS DO NOT EVER RIP THE STUPID CABLE BEHIND THE SCREEN GOING TO THE KEYBOARD. IT IS VERY DELICATE and I gave up on finding a replacement.
I kept the parts incase damaged MY unit but I anticipate not needing them. My contract expires in Jan and I will be dumping my mogul for an android phone.
Anyways PM me if you want to talk about offers on what parts you may need.
Good luck

First, sorry to hear about your device. Bummer. I keep it in my back pocket sometimes and I hope I never forget to take it out.
If you're able to keep it, please do donate it for development. Midget_1990 is the one you want to make arrangements with if you don't mind donating it to the cause. This will help us start earlier than previously. Once we get Midget_1990 his phone we can send it to another developer I have in mind. Thanks for the post and offering to help. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
insurers arent open today (how lazy) and as i have no phone or digital camera cant post pics its right accross the screen top to bottom. if i can hold on to it or as much as possible might just send in the main device minus battery keyboard etc i will try posting whats available to Midget_1990. will let you guys know tomorrow assuming i get it sorted and hope to get it back soon ........

if you're using the t-mob insurance they'll want the other one back, and make sure if you get it swapped in t-mob store that you take in everything that came with it, to send back, otherwise they'll charge you full retail price! I've found it best to take the unit and new battery from the offered box and leave everything as is.. this from exchanging 3 universals through that scheme..
They definitely will not send you a new battery and yes you will be charged for anything you don;t return.
I had a nightmare year last year with my Universal - without being aware when I knocked it the screen cracked three times. Each time Orange replaced but I life in fear of my Advantage bought from a 3rd party along with a Vodafone contract (T-Mobile doesn't exist around here) which is only on the house insurance.
So please don't post it this subject you're making me nervous!

Have you tried approaching one of the mobile phone insurers for your own contract. Phonesafe thru T-mobile charge £8.99 pcm - I wonder if they would provide a policy to you direct. Must be worth trying because your house policy excess may be quite high?
A quick google shows lots of mobile phone insurers - see for example: Mobile Phone Insurer reviews
Maybe then you can read this thread without squirming!

I am on my fourth Ameo (1st one GPS stopped), the following ones have all been faulty replacements (until my most recent one, which works).
The point is that when I did the first exchange it was in a T-mobile store and I needed it urgently. The GPS had just stopped working but I did not have the box with me. I asked them to do an exchange on the undertaking that I would bring the box into the store the following week to swap it over. However, when I went in the following week, they said they had sent the other box (i.e. the box from the exchanged one) away and didn't need my box.
The other exchanges have all been through T-mobile's call centre - they send out (by courier) a new handset (not including keyboard, battery, screen protector etc) and take the old one away at the same time. It worked quite well - they given you a morning or afternoon slot, which the courier seemed to stick to. If you don't hand over your handset, they don't hand over the new one!!!
well alll i managed was an extra styli, and replaced my keyboard/case and phone so there all shiney but no extra. damn but i tried my best sorry guys, maybe i can 'lose' it next time and theyl never know....
Just installed pocket hack master and it shows stable @ 728 Mhz my old one couldnt even run stable at 663 only at 624 i know many havent being able to overclock but now i can

buying a used att 8525

i'm buying a used att 8525 thats has scratches and dents but the screen is protected by a screen protector and has no scratches.. the owner says he's been getting dropped signals and believes it to be a software issue.. does anyone know whether it's be a software issue or hardware? it's only 100 dollars as is meant to be a backup for my tilt.. any help would be appreciated..
Never heard of that before. That would raise a red flag with me and I would kill the deal and go look on ebay instead. I've had mine for two days now - att 8525 - I love it.
alright.. i had a 8525 b4 i bought my tilt but just wanted a backup phone.. for when i'm flashing my phone and reinstalling stuff since it takes me a while to fully put everything back with such a hectic schedule.. i remember some radios having bad signal and thought maybe of jus reflashing the radio.. so i just wanted to see other peoples opinions as to whether it could have been a hardware issue..
I picked up my used 8525 on ebay - and the original owner also mentioned that he dropped the odd call here and there - and was having communications issues with the sd card.
I did some reading and searching on this site - and there are radios that have better reception than others - and dropped calls can be radio related.
I thought that the majority of the issues were software related - so took a chance, and picked up the phone.
I payed $50.00 - and thought it to be an okay price to pay on a maybe phone. I unlocked and installed HardSpl and have been flashing roms for a few weeks now.
Not a single dropped call - and no communication issues with the sd card.
Good luck with whatever you choose
Have a good one

I'm having to sell my 8525
I got migrated at work to the blackberry, so I am going to sell my Cingular/ATT 8525.
I re-flashed it to Official WM6 from ATT. It has IPL 1.04, SPL 2.10.Olipro Hard SPL v7. It has been a stellar phone.
It has 2 scrapes on the outer edge( before I got it a helmet) and NO scratches on the screen.
What is a fair price for a buyer and myself? I'm not looking to get over on anyone; I want buyer and myself to be happy.
Would come with all original boxes and power cables, 1gig micro SD, extra battery, charging stand.

You could always donate it
That being said, have a look on eBay and see what prices these things are going for. It's easier to get an idea of what the market is doing that way.
Hey .. let me know how much you want for it .. I just had mine stolen and to get a replacement here in Germany from 02 is 699 Euro wish is about 1000 US dollars. =(
I'm military so i do have a USPS address.
i'm actually trying to sell my 8525 as well. i just dont feel i get enough use out of it for what its worth.
think $325 is asking too much? i mean i paid $500 for it. i'd say the phone is in a condition of 9/10. there are two small scratches, one in the upper right and one in the bottom left. the screen is scratch free. its completely functional, i've never had any problems. hardly any wear and tear, i mean a few specs if you get up close with a magnifying glass.
i have all my original accessories & i'm throwin in a 2gb card. plus i have a load of software for the phone. right now it has the official at&t wm6 rom.
ps: if anyone is interested contact me darx07(at)gmail.com
EDIT: i'll sell it to anyone in US $300 shipped. anyone else, $290 + shipping.
I also wanna sell mine too...my sis got 1 cuz she liked the qwert but then now she thinks it's too big
Comes with a bluetooth bought from frys - brand 'Mini Blue', a bluetooth keyboard, a crystal clear case, a 1gb micro sd, and a car charger
i only have the items listed above, i do not have the wall charger, or the earpiece or the y-cable, etc...
there are scratches, but very minor, and the screen always had a screen protector attached.
Currently has K's Final Rom Full Ver and it's unlocked
$300 shipped
Paypal confirmed address only
Please PM me for more info n pics

Im Covered Right?

I got my G1 @ the end of January, and I have never dropped it or anything, there is not 1 scratch on it. The problem im having is with the space bar, when I press it, sometimes it doesnt register, and when it does it usually registers as I pressed it twice, and its getting annoying. I should be able to get a new 1 without having to pay right? Its under warranty(should b) and I have insurance(u still have to pay, idn y I have it), but I should be able to get a free new 1 with my warranty right?
You want get a NEW one...but you will get a use one.

Okay, so lemme put my input on this...
I've been a T-Mo customer of 5 yrs, and have had 6 or 7 G1's since launch (creaky screen, bad WiFi MAC addresses, trackball stopped working). So i can tell you, that you will almost DEFINITELY get a used one, they typically don't ship new ones out if they have "reconditioned" ones in stock. You really won't notice the difference, honestly. But the first thing you MUST do, is reflash the original OS onto it, they will charge your account full price of the G1 if they find you have broken the software warranty by installing a rooted or other than official build on the device. So be prepared to do that.

[email protected] pretty gay if I get a used one, I kno I wont notice, but I like having things like my phone new, but yea I kno about flashing back the original rom etc
Think of it this way. Whatever the phone was exchanged for, they replaced. As well as any scratched/cracked plastic parts that may have been on the other phone. They do everything they can to make it LOOK new. But remember this, too, you'll have to keep your original back. And trust me, mine looks like crap, it's the original one i got on October 20th. With a phone I got in like, March. So it looks off with the colors. But there's not much that can be done about that, because they pretty much never send a new one out. And for the longest time, you couldn't even do exchanges on White or Black ones because they had NO stock to replace it with, simply because they were selling so many of them, they couldn't put any into the replacement pool, new or old. But I have a bronze, so I've never had to worry about that, there's tons of those to recirculate. But trust me, you won't notice any difference, any problems (like the creaky screen) that have had any kind of revision to the whole device, will be done already, so many parts will be new. Maybe the internals are the only old part, but you won't notice that either, because they're putting the same stuff in the ones released in October that they're putting in them now. You'll be good. Plus, they might have 1.5 already on the device when you get it, so you may be in a better spot than the rest of us.
Yeah, reconditioned/refurbished.

What do u mean id have to keep my original back? my whole phone has shield skinz so it wuld suck since I have 2 take it off and get a new 1, but idc bout the 1.5 since im usings Haykuros anyway
I dunno anything about that skin or anything (it took me a lot for me to get a rubber skin for my iPod), but yes, you keep YOUR original back that was shipped with the first G1 you bought, and they (for the 5 years I've been with T-Mobile) send you just the phone. No battery, no back cover, no SD card, no accessories. You get a little brown box with 2 foam inserts, and freely bouncing inside that is your replacement G1. You put all your original stuff into that G1, and put your original G1 into the box, slap the return label on top of the shipping label, put the tamper evident sticker over the part where the box opens, and take it to a UPS center. Or you could pay like, 10 bucks or whatever for UPS to pick it up (i coulda sworn back in 2004 they would come get it without you having to pay, but the world/economy has changed since 2004)
My USB went faulty and they sent me a replacment last month or so. I called Tmo about it and they conected me to a Blackberry rep. No idea why it was Blackberry rep that took care of me but whatever. He also even said he'll send me a new one. Sure enough 3 days later a new one showed up. It had the plastic screens on the lcd and back. When I pulled the plastic off the back, it wasnt rubbed or scratched from opening and closing the screen.

Damn I guess things do change, when I had a Sidekick 2, my keyboard got messed up, so I called, they sent me a brand new 1 with everything, new sim card, a brand new unopened box, I put my old 1 in the pouch they gave me with the shipping label for it, and I left it outside for the mailman. Y cant we have that now?

Mayb I gotta ask 4 a Blackberry rep then?
Actually it doesn't matter either way who u ask for... the PDA Group of support is officially the WinMo/BlackBerry/Android reps now... they do not have a SPECIFIC place in support for the G1. Sometimes they'll say G1, but trust me, i have the direct 877 number... Try it urself, 877-816-8601. Little did the rep realize that gave that number to me, it puts you in FRONT of any que on the phones. So you get to a rep in under 3 minutes. =) Shh, i didn't give that out though. At any rate, things have changed in years, and the Sidekick II (had one of them, and a 3, and an MDA, Wing, and now have SK 2008, SK Slide, WebConnect AND a G1) was a completely self-contained, sealed device like the iPhone. All you did was slide a SIM card in under the bumper and everything else was for T-Mobile to fix if something went bad. Which was rare on the SKII (mine never had a problem over a yr period)

Ahaha thanks 4 [email protected] number, and yea I owned 2 Sidekick IIs(1 replacement), 2 Sidekick 3s(friend gave me 1, and I bought 1), a Wing, and now G1, and I love my G1 the most, the Sidekicks kinda got old for me, and every1 around me started gettin them so I had to change [email protected]
just gonna throw this out there, if you make a big enough deal and blabber on about your loyalty to them as a customer they will eventually send you a "full kit" just to shut you up(i know it i did it once) that way you will be recieving a brand new phone straight out of the box no one has ever touched anything on it.
Well THAT is interesting. I go on and on for 10 mins about how loyal of a customer I am and they've NEVER sent me a full kit. Damn. I even told them the back to my G1 isn't staying on as easily anymore and they told me I'll have to BUY one... Right.
i've been with t-mobile for 7 or 8 years and been with AT&T for 3

Cracked screen :(

I'm just a little bit miffed today. My phone got knocked off a table at a restaurant, landed on the corner, then came to rest on its back (camera down). I know have a nice spiderweb across the top of screen. Thankfully, only my glass is cracked. The touchscreen still works perfectly, even across the cracks.
Am I going to be able to get this repaired from Sprint? One of my friends got his EVO repaired for free a few months ago with the same type of damage. Do I have similar coverage, or am I going to have to shell out for a replacement?
I'm taking it in on Monday, should I RUU back to stock, or just flash my rooted stock ROM backup? (I'm on CM7 RC4)
That sucks dude.
I'm always afraid of that happening to mine too
I personally don't know if Sprint will do it for free or not (they'll know for sure when you go)
Also, I think it might be best to RUU back (making backups of all your setups, ROMs, data, etc and saving said backups to your PC) Just in case Sprint feels the need to rummage through your phone after they replace the screen (I'm guessing they might to test to see if the screen replacement is working correctly)
You could do your second listed option, up to you. I'm also afraid of Sprint finding out I voided the warranty. See, if you they find out you're rooted, then there goes your warrant and free screen replacement (as long as a screen replacement is part of the warranty)
I'm not sure if they'll replace it for free. I have this "insurance" deal with sprint (which I'm pretty sure is a ripoff, but my mom insisted I get it) that we had to pay for when I first bought the phone that cost $10. It only covers certain types of things, such as hardware errors and the like, but doesn't cover accidental physical damage. It would cost me $100 to get my phone or screen replaced if something like this happened. But maybe the employees at your sprint store are nice and might replace your screen for free.
screen on my moment imploded and took it to the sprint store and asked them to fix it and they looked at me like i was a crackhead that walked in off the street. then they told me to call ausurion and pay the 100 bucks to get it fixed . chances are thats what you will have to do

I have to bring my phone to Sprint for...

...a broken front glass. I've had my Evo since launch, naked, and finally dropped it on something hard enough to break it - the parking lot. Needless to say, the glass is cracked, so I'll need to bring it to Sprint (I have TEP), but first, a few questions:
1) I need to unroot (the phone is still very usable), but if I get an exchange, is the newest version of Android rootable for the Evo4G?
2) If it's NOT rootable, I know a guy who replaces glass on iPods, iPhones, and other smartphones, (including the 4G) and he'll charge me for the glass and that's it (<$50). Problem is, now it has a few nicks in the side, and that will bug the **** out of me.
Any ideas/tips from anyone that's gone through this with Sprint or suggestions otherwise?
Thanks
You'll get referred to Asurion unless the tech is feeling exceptionally nice that day.
They've been cracking down on courtesy repairs recently, mainly because the front assemblies are around $100 a pop.
If you get an exchange you will be able to root using Revolutionary (do a search). I've done several.
Go to amazon, the digitizer is anywhere between $11-$20... Not a real tough fix...
I'd go the amazon route as well. My friend fixed his wife's evo pretty quickly and for $15 I think.
Wow, thanks everyone! I do have TEP for the phone, but replacing it myself doesn't look to difficult and I'm pretty handy. I already have the torx and pry tools, so I may just go that route. Thanks for the feedback!
And even if you don't want to do it yourself, there is no need to actually take it to a sprint store. They will just tell you to call Asurion.

So this third party company basically just handles the claims?

Not necessarily. I'm on my 4th screen replaced at no charge from my local store. I have TEP, the sheet shows $35 for screen repair without it. 3 times I walked in and was out in 30-40min. Once they had no screens and gave me a loaner while a new shipment came in.
Perhaps corporate stores are just referring to Asurion now, but all the stores in my area still repair in shop.
I just had to turn in a phone because the USB data lines were not working. They refused to do any diagnosing while it was rooted. You might be able to try a stock-looking ROM perhaps. But I unrooted following guides here, took it in, got the new phone a while later, rooted it, and I'm back.
Nine days later, I drop the phone on concrete face-down. So now I'm sitting with this new phone and a cracked screen. Ebay has a number of complete housings with LCD for $40-60. With that, swap in your motherboard and it should be all good. I will be going this route over the next few days.
Ifixit.com has a guide to take it apart. You have to do the first few steps to see what model LCD your phone uses. Some have a wide ribbon cable and some have a narrower one. I just looked this afternoon and mine is a wide type cable. Maybe older phones are narrow.
Go with number 2 because it should be easy to fix to do. And just deal with the side nicks and scratches. After all it was your own fault for not having it protected somehow.

Nowhere did I say it WASN'T my fault. It's not like I'm out to **** over Sprint. I think having the phone since launch and never dropping it naked is pretty ****ing good in its own right, thank you very much.
I had the Otterbox Commuter (which is an amazing case, imo) from day one (Dec 2010), but have since gone naked. The phone is too sexy to cover it up with anything. I gladly take the risk of dropping it.
Bottom 20% of my digitizer went bad. Sprint said they'd fix it for $35 till they found out it was rooted. They said if I brought it back with stock software they'd still do it. I brought it back with a stock ROM but they claimed water damage and wouldn't fix it. Dirty ****ers.
For $20 and an hours worth of time I fixed it myself with a part from Amazon. You'll need to pick up a safe pry tool kit ($2). I ordered one setup for an iPod and it worked fine. They also say you'll need a T4 driver but you'll need a T5. Lowes has a Torx multitool that works great for $10.
There is a youtube video that shows step by step how to replace the EVO digitizer.

I guess it depends on the store.. I don't have insurance and they also charged 35$ but they never said anything about root. I was running cm7 and didn't even change they boot animation to stock..
There also was no root method at the time..

the day after i got my evo i had to go to the sprint store to do something with it (i forgot) but the tech came out and tried to pull the "water damage" BS they always pull. I told the prick that i just got it YESTERDAY and why the hell you people always try to pull the water damage bs? he had nothing to say. I was being a bit loud in front of everyone in the store and you should have seen teh look on his retarded face. these doosh bag techs at sprint suck!! they would rather find a way out of fixing it than actually fixing it.
