So I'm intensely considering rooting now using the good ole 1-click and installing Cynaogen's latest mod with the built in apps2sd... only one thing is holding me up... the MicroSD Card. I'm NERVOUS about the partitioning process to get an EXT partition, and when I read that (according to Haykuro) you shouldn't even try apps2sd on a class 2 or even a 4 (or expect potentially lots of crashes/reboots)... I get more nervous.
I have a Patriot Class 4 8GB Micro... think it's good enough or should I wait to do this whole process till I have a class 6? I don't want to wait TOO long lest they patch the exploit. :/
ALSO... do you have to do the partition BEFORE you install Cyanogen's build or can you do it after?
Thoughts?
Well I'm running apps2sd on my 8gb class 2 card and it works fine, at first i got force closes, but the fix_permissions command solved that problem for me. Also, I partitioned my card before I got cyan's rom on my phone.
hope that answers your questions

I have a Kingsinton Class 4 8GB and it works perfectly on the HTC hero rom. I wouldn't worry too much about that issue. I wouldn't use the One-click root if I were you though, since u will be missing out on all the android essentials. Rooting is very simple and teaches you the system when you root it the manual way.
Finally, you so do it BEFORE you install the build. good luck!

Sure it may be easy to do but you will not learn such things as adb shell that allows you to control your computer or how to fix your device if anything goes wrong. you may very well end up in a position like this guy, who has no idea what he is doing.

When you root it manually you learn a lot about the phone..
If you use 1click you wouldn't learn adb or how to fix boot loop...or how to flash a new recovery image..

is it because i have a class 2 memory card?
it lags and i get the htc screen alot after i exit from an app.
if i get a class 6, will the phone run as smooth as it did with the stock rom on there?
Which ROM are you using? Could be something else.
If you are rocking a class 2 card, you might want to not use the Apps2SD feature of rooted roms, you have plenty of space on the phone.
When I first rooted my MT3G I wasnt using the SD card for apps and it ran so much faster on the Cyanogen ROM than on the stock ROM.
im using the one click method. im fairly new to the whole rooting stuff, so im not to savvy just yet.
i believe it runs off the memory card if im not mistaken
Be mindful.

If you utilized the One-Click Root Method (correctly) you shouldn't have immediately run into any issues. In fact, if you played it safe and flashed a Cyanogen ROM - hopefully stable at first...then you should be in great shape. Obviously, since that doesn't appear to be the case. Consider this:
- Upgrading your card to a Class 6, the rewrite speeds exceed that of the standard Class 2 and 4 cards.
- Wipe, re-flash, and install your applications to a reformatted SD card.
- If your card isn't partitioned to some extent, might I suggest that you search a tutorial on HOW-TO (one you can fully understand) partition the card properly.
- Always, always, always...NANDROID backup a fully functional ROM - just in case you should ever encounter a problem.

if you are running hero, it will be slow... if you want a fast rom for the mytouch, try cyanogen or jacxrom
How do I disable the apps2sd feature? I'm running cyanogen 4.0.4 if that makes a difference
if you dont have linux ext partitions in the sd card, it wont do it.
The WP7 boots without a hitch, but when i go to boot android via magldr sd, it freezes up? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks XDA

are you using a rom that supports magldr?
great question, i havent flashed a custom rom yet, is this my issue?
Another note, when it boots to android there is activity for a split second in the tool bar and it says that the sd card is near full. i dont know if this means anything.

You dont flash the android rom, you copy it onto your sd card. Providing you have a MAGLDR SD android ROM it will install.
Have you setup your sd card to support dual boot?
I understand. Ive gone through numerous tutorials and have set up my sd card. when booting into wp7 i have 7 gigs and when i mount the sd in my laptop i have the other have remaining on my sd.
i suppose its the magldr sd android rom thats the issue
any insight here?
do i need to do this?

Yes, either that, or just use a compatible one, for example, i'm using markinux's super clean desire hd without sense blablabla x)
You could try that one out, i'm having no issues at all

ok good - sounds like you're nearly there. Make sure your Android partition is set as PRIMARY
- yes that link is where you need to look next - i never bothered with that though.
I searched the sd ROMS that supported MAGLDR. They usually had special instructions to make them work.
otherwise search thru that thread.
Zarathustrax has created quite a few pre-made MAGLDR boot files - search for his posts in that thread.
alright ill try that one
ive gone toe to toe with FEB 04 Copes
it boots to the starting htc screen and hangs there.

im running Copes too,
make sure on the fat32 side of your partition that its primary (like Canterbury said) and sometimes ive noticed its fussy in wanting a formatted clean card. yeah takes like 5 or 10 mins for the first boot. youll almost give up waiting lol i know i have plenty of times.

if you interrupted the first install while it was trying to create the data.img it wont boot no matter how many times you try. If you think that might be the case - delete the data.img file on the sd and try again.

Hey guys,
So this is the deal...i have a Magic - mt3g with a 4gb sd card.
This problem started around 2 weeks. The problem is,when i put on a new ROM (mostly 2.2) [previously wipe/reset and format the SD card - swap 32/ext2 512/fat32 the rest] the phone/rom works nicely, speedy, smooth etc.But right after when i install some apps (a few hours later) it starts lagging really badly,i mean horribly badly! No matter what type of rom i put on.
But when i go to recovery and do either of apps2sd or rapair ext ,it works nicely again (i do lose all the apps though >_> )
So what's the prob? is the sd card? im losing my mind here
p.s. the sd card r/w speed has dropped to like less then 1MB/s...a lot less!
plz help
What class is the SD card? Could be your problem there, just too much simultaneous read/write for the card to handle.
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
A few questions.
1. How many apps are you installing?
2. Are you giving it time to "think" on the first boot? I always let new roms sit for a solid 10 mins before setting up. Big difference in stability.
3. Are you using the new radio/spl for the extra ram?
I always kept my apps to a minimum, didn't use apps2sd and it ran ok. It's a slow phone with not enough ram though, that's just the way it is.

1. Before this prob : around 20 (not counting the on board apps that u get with the rom) and no problems with lag or anything...after the prob : 5-10 and then the prob starts ...
2. Yup
3. Nope.I never changed my spl/radio ,and all roms allways worked perfectly

***********************************
Like i said, for 5 months no probs, and all of a sudden probs ... without any major changes to the phone/sd card ... just started happening
p.s. should i exchange my sd card (for a day or two) with my friedns (in his SGS) and see if it's the sd card? or not?
A swap would be wise. Most likely the SD card is going out, but that's just speculation. I started running into the same issue with my myTouch 1.2 and I'm pretty sure the CPU was going out.

I suggest you update to latests Radio and Spl, since you said you havnt because nowadays the newer froyo roms require it.

There are a few threads that walk you through setting up fastboot and adb. Do a quick search. Basically you go into the bootloader, select fastboot and issue the commands.
Hi guys, sorry if this is a dumb question but havent had my coffee yet.
Im just wondering if anybody knew of any development going on to be able to flash WP7 from SD crad via MAGLDR?
I think this owuld be a great addition.
I'm at work at the moment and was going to flash WP7 as im bored and realised I didnt bring my USB cable
Since WP7 format your SD during installation process, I think it's impossible ^^

Yeah, the way wp7 uses the sd card would make it very difficult to find a way to make it work.... there's probably a better chance of them figuring out a way to boot wp7 directly from SD (which given the fact that wp7 uses the sd as main memory anyways, performance would probably be the same with a good sd card if the figured out how to do this.... I would love to have android on NAND so I can use clockwork, but I don't want to give up the ability to boot wp7... especially after reading about the multitasking ability that is going to be added with an update... their doing multitasking like WebOS did it, with playing card looking screens that you can scroll through... it looks great)
Not really true.
WP7 only formats your card if it hasnt already been formatted. When ive been trying/testing dual boot in past, I had a pre-formatted WP7 card with WP7 partitions already on and after flashing it didnt format. Well unless im not remembering correctly and dreamt it.
So its probably just a matter of magldr support for it. Unless its a limitation of only been able to perform the partitioing via PC-DFT/USB-MAGLDR flasher.
I do agree though, the coming possibility of running WP7 from SD would be great. Its bit like when we first got Android (me back on Blackstone), ie have your secondary OS on card and primary on NAND. I slowly started to use Android more and more and then just started booting into it by default either manually or via bootloader, then eventually on NAND. I cant see myself getting rid of Android for WP7 any time soon but it would be cool to be able to play with it without having to resort to putting Android back on card.

Installed more than 10 times WP7 and always a SD format...on all roms...
Furthermore it's clearly stated in most of cooked roms and installation tutos topics

Fook knows then, Im sure I managed to use a pre-prepared card without it flashing it at some point, Ill have a go later and see if I can replicate what I did.
Anyway, this doesnt really make a difference because im sure somebody could come up with a modded version that bypasses SD format/check etc.
Will just have to wait and see.
IMO flashing without formatting would be awesome especially to avoid reinstalling apps and reconfigurating system everytime :/
Let's be patient...

Why I would bother is irrelevant to the question. I am simply wondering if anyone has tried it successfully. Obviously, you have not, so why bother answering?

Yes. This is the way I did it on my old G1. Worked great back in those ancient Android days. Of course, now it's a lot easier with recoveries being able to do it so easy now.

The question was meant to help you realize that you're not going to get any MT4G-relevant answers. Recoveries are able to repartition SD cards for a couple of years now, so even older phone users like myself (N1) had no use for this guide. It's ancient history.
On the other hand, if you're trying to learn how to manually use parted - you don't need to be in a phone forum for that, it's a Linux command, you can grab any manual on the net and be sure that it'll work.
