are you using a rom that supports magldr?

great question, i havent flashed a custom rom yet, is this my issue?
Another note, when it boots to android there is activity for a split second in the tool bar and it says that the sd card is near full. i dont know if this means anything.

You dont flash the android rom, you copy it onto your sd card. Providing you have a MAGLDR SD android ROM it will install.
Have you setup your sd card to support dual boot?

I understand. Ive gone through numerous tutorials and have set up my sd card. when booting into wp7 i have 7 gigs and when i mount the sd in my laptop i have the other have remaining on my sd.
i suppose its the magldr sd android rom thats the issue
any insight here?
do i need to do this?

Yes, either that, or just use a compatible one, for example, i'm using markinux's super clean desire hd without sense blablabla x)
You could try that one out, i'm having no issues at all

ok good - sounds like you're nearly there. Make sure your Android partition is set as PRIMARY
- yes that link is where you need to look next - i never bothered with that though.
I searched the sd ROMS that supported MAGLDR. They usually had special instructions to make them work.
otherwise search thru that thread.
Zarathustrax has created quite a few pre-made MAGLDR boot files - search for his posts in that thread.

alright ill try that one
ive gone toe to toe with FEB 04 Copes
it boots to the starting htc screen and hangs there.

it took a good 10minutes of "HTC" hang time before it booted for me first time.
He's releasing a new version in a couple of hours which i'm going to try.

wasnt sure if my radio was the problem so im flashing the one you have in your sig
will report
thanks guys for your support

im running Copes too,
make sure on the fat32 side of your partition that its primary (like Canterbury said) and sometimes ive noticed its fussy in wanting a formatted clean card. yeah takes like 5 or 10 mins for the first boot. youll almost give up waiting lol i know i have plenty of times.

20 minutes in and still on the htc screen..

if you interrupted the first install while it was trying to create the data.img it wont boot no matter how many times you try. If you think that might be the case - delete the data.img file on the sd and try again.

[Q] Dual Android boot up. nand and SD

Hi Guys . Sorry if this has been asked before but i cant find it in the search. I am already using a Nand Rom on my EU HD2 . I would like to know if its possible to still have a second android rom being able to boot from the SD card ? Lets say like a Ram rom booting up from the file explorer like haret was for winmo . Thus shutting the Nand rom down and then booting from the SD.
I know something similer has been done with WM7 but i dont want to take the plunge with WM7 yet as im happy with android. Has thi sbeen done or is it possible ??
Thanks in advance.
Yes you can, you can boot NAND Android, and still use SD Android.
Hold the Power button when you start your phone, to get into MAGLDR menu.
In the Service Menu, set the boot directory to your SD's Android folder, where the zImage and initrc.gz files are.
Usually, /sdcard/android directory, but depends on build.
Then go back and select Boot SD Android, and woohoo, good to go.
Now, when you select Boot NAND AD, you boot from NAND, when you select SD AD, then you boot from SD.
Thanks life u are a star !!!
What build is recomended for this Sd or ram ?? also im getting a error message in boot up from sd it says no newinitrd and continues to reboot . Help appreciated.
Ive got another question. It is possible, or will be possible in the future, to boot Winmo from sd?
I have an app that is dedicated for Winmo only, it is a navigation app.
I would like to have Android in nand, which is much more comfortable than booting it from SD.
Is there, maybe, another way to achieve it?
Well, technically, everything is possible. Booting WP7, booting WM6.5, from SD, etc...
But... The question is, will anyone even bother?

Well, it shouldn't be looking for newinitrd.gz but initrd.gz, if that is what it is looking for, and your directory only has initrd.gz, try renaming it and see what happens. I will go try when I have free time, I probably will be busy for the next couple of days, so I will see!

Actually cotulla posted in the magldr thread that he is going to try to get a winmo build working that can boot from sd. I don't know when he plans to have it finished, or if it will even work out... but he's working on it. I also hope it happens, as I still like using winmo for certain apps... like fpsece works a lot better than psx4droid for playing playstation games.
Oh, thats good to hear.

Your using an incompatible SD build.
You have to use a SD build specifically built for magldr, You cant just use any of the old ones unless you use the edited files with them.

Did you set magldr to boot from the folder you're build is in? You need to set that in magldr so it knows which folder to boot from. Settings, then 1st option, then 4th option i think.
Ok I got it to load I think. I had to set the directory. But now it just sits at the black HTC screen and then restarts. What did I do wrong now lol. Also is it normal to have wp7 running without an sd card in. Cause I flashed it without an sd card in. I read that its better to install without sd card. If so ways the point of all the partitioning. Thanks

Not sure whats wrong with the build... it may need to be edited to run from magldr. But about running wp7 without a sd, it'll run fine, but then you have no memory to install anything or do anything with the os. If you check, you probably only have about 10mb of memory left if you are running it without a sd card. That's why we're partitioning the cards, so we can give wp7 some of the space on the sd card and leave some space for android to run from.
Ok thanks. Just realized that once I took two pics of my son and it said low space. It says on the page that his rom can be ran from sd with magldr. But I guess I did sumthing wrong. Wish I could get this partitioning thing right. I can't understand it to save my life lol. I have 8gb sd.

Read this thread starting with post 235... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913815&page=24
Post 235 has the basic directions, but instead of making the unformatted partition primary, you have to make it logical at first and then later use the minitools partition manager posted later in that thread to change it to primary. But it has to made logical at first to work. But read from that post up until end of thread and you should have a pretty good idea on how to partition it with just one card. It only ends up taking around 10 min or less when you do it right.

[Q] Compatible/Recommended SDHC cards?

Hello everyone, I would have posted this under:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881937
but my less then 10 post restriction is not allowing me to .
My problem is once the ROM boots up, as soon as it says "Preparing SD Card", my phone freezes. The only thing I can think of is that I have an incompatible SD card. I am currently using the one that came with my phone which is a class 2 16gb SanDisk. What would you guys recommend that I use?
Use a program called SDFormatter (from Panasonic) .. format it.
Then use windows format utility to give it a slow format 4096 cluster FAT32
Works great for me on "broken" cards.
He's right. The stock card should work.

A class 2 Sandisk should be fine unless it's defective. Maybe you have build setup wrong... have you tried a different build? Try that and see if it works. Are you trying to dualboot or anything like that? Or load the build with magldr?

If you are using magldr, you need a build compatible with magldr or edit the init.rc file in the build to make it work with magldr. Look at the thread in my signature... post 2 has some builds that I edited to work with magldr. I'll be adding more soon.
Alright, well I've formatted my sd card and now it's worse then before. It just stays stuck at the MAGDLR screen and doesn't boot up at all. As far as I know the build is compatible with MAGDLR so I'm not sure what the problem is.

[Q] Why wont my HD2 Accept ANYTHING?

Hi,
I have been on this forum for the past 2-3 days trying to get android on my gf's HD2 and it just wont have it.
I have tried MCCM's HD v4 Desire one
I have tried Froyo 1.5
I have tried DL Desire Series, both SD and MAGLAR.
The ones where you click CLRCAD.exe then haret.exe either say it doesent have certificates to run or parts are missing. Or it goes to a black scree and gets stuck on "Jumping To Kernel" and it stays like that for ages (tested for 1 hour, never budged)
The DL desire series via MAGLAR wont work either, I need HSPL (sp?) to install MAGLAR but HSPL keeps reporting back that the file Rapi.dll is missing.
My SPL version is 1.42**** so technically thats right ( from what I have read )
I have tried formatting the SD card via PC and device, also tried a factory reset and an additional 2 other SD cards. Still nada.
What else can it be? Someone mentioned the radio but there is so many questions being asked in a specific thread that mine gets lost and since this is more of a global issue I thought a thread of its own is deserved
I really want this and will go to any length to get it ( not keen on ROM flashing thought, would like to avoid turning the handset into a hammer rather than a phone)
Hope I havent busted any rules
Cheers,
Gib
You need radio 2.14 or more for Android.
aka, upgrade your ROM.
You are not alone
You are not alone here.
I have been having this problem too, I get stuck on the HTC white screen. though I haven't tried much ROM but I have tried formating and reflahing of my WM ROM.
I once did a stock ROM official update with: (RUU_Leo_S_HTC_NLD_3.14.404.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2 .15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship)
ever since I have not been able to find how to flash using SPL, I have been flashing using SSPL_RU and my radio is 2.15.50.14.
Could this reason be the problem.
I need help please I want to have a feel of droid.
Know the feeling
I have been trying all the different android magldr sd roms and everytime its the same story. First boot fine. Second boot and on it just hangs at the green htc logo. I have tried so many things i don't know what to do next.
Have you tried one of the Energy ROM's? I found on my unlocked HD2 that these were the only roms (going back a while now) that I could get Android running off an SD card. I've since heard that there is a basically blank rom for people who want to run nothing but android. It's a small rom, only about 30mb.
It's in a few places around the board. I can't remember what the name of that one is off the top of my head, but any of the Energy series, or the Miri ROM's apparently work too.
Good luck!

Ater trying some nand roms i came back to the orignal firmware( the same as you).
And i also have this problem , it just load into a picture with htc on it.
Have you tried using a different SD card? My Sandisk 8gb didn't accept anything. I had an old 512mb laying around that came with my E90, loaded SuperRAM on it (aprox 450mb including data.img) and it booted straight away.
2.15.50.* is the right radio for most SD builds, make sure you have enough free space on SD. most builds have at least 512mb if not 1gb data.img which gets created when first boot. If runs out of space it will get stuck on boot screen. No hspl required with 3.14 HTC winmo rom
I also try to get Android in my HD2 (energy ROM). I am somewhat puzzled however: I want to flick back and forth between WM and Android and many programs I have reside onto my SD card. I have read in an earlier post that before attempting Android I should format my card - does this mean that I cannot have WM data (programs etc) in the same SD card I run android? or that I can transfer them back AFTER I manage (if) to load Android?. Thank you
The SD card has to be formatted in FAT32. Just to make sure the card is clean I copy all my data to my pc, format the card and transfer it all back.

OK thank you - got it!
Unfortunately I cannot get passed the green HTC splash screen - my HD2 stays there for time no end and the only solution is to take battery out. Any suggestions?
Assuming you've got everything set up properly (right radio, hspl, ...) which you can find on the Android forum. I think you'll have to try using a different brand of sd card. Some cards simply don't play nice with Android.
Got uber annoyed with the SD method, just ended up doing a full scale flash to ROM. Was easier lol

I would almost agree with that except, i have 2 exactly the same 16 gb cards, each with a 3 gb fat32 primary partition. 1 loads android but wont allow me to do things like take pictures[it says there isn't an sd card.] The second card just hangs at the green htc screen. Even if I copy the working partition to the other card, it still hangs.

Thanks for this Info. I didn't take into consideration that the file will be enlarged during booting. The copied Android folder was 508MB in size but this got enlarged to about 1.3GB during boot up. I thought if I just leave about 1.2GB in all the SD card I have been trying that it should be enough. But I was wrong.
Thanks a lot I have done multiple reboot without any problem.
I am enjoying my first Android feel.
Thanks once again.
Android on HD2 hates most SD Cards
From my own limited experience to also having read many posts I can say that most sd cards prevent Android from running properly on the hd2. Mine works fine with radio 2.14/2.15 and the stock Sandisk 16gb card that came with my tmous hd2, but I recently tried a wintec 16gb card that made Android run like a broke-wheel-cart and other sd cards I have laying around make it fail.
I think everyone needs to add what card they are using to their signature, or else we might all just end up howling in the wind.
Based on some feedback from another post I just ordered this Sandisk 16gb card from Newegg. It is Model # SDSDQ-016G-A11M . It is reported that that model# provides class10 speeds even though it is sold as a class2. It's use with Android is supposed to be good.

hmm, odd, not sure but perhaps an SD card issue?
those seem to be the root course for most issues perhaps this is another one! get a different SD card and give that aa shot, dont spend money you dont have because there is a chance that card might not work either! so if you have one kicking about give that a shot...just a thought, it might not be it but its worth a shot.
thanks but I think SD isn't a problem. It worked well for almost a month.

Not saying you are wrong, bit maybe you should consider the fact that it could be your SD card. WP7Cdoes this weird format called RAID to hour SD cardcthe first time you boot it up. This allows WP7 to use the SD card as the internal memory for the phone. This is the same of a native WP7 device, yes they use SD cards for internal memory all of the current ones do. Anyway this format is bad enough on a SD card, but you add the fact that it is constantly being read from and wrote to. This can kill a already overly used SD card, or a cheap sub are SD card.
His right, don't rule it out until you can rule it out! SD issues are huge and can attack at any moment, my own experience is that if I delete some music, approx 200mb it allows windows to use a certain portion of the card for system usage, it will crash and restart, didn't get this for months until I filled up the card to the point windows wanted to access that space, filling it past that space corrected the problem oh an my computer can't detect any issues with the card so its nit a case of being faulty, its a case of not meeting the spec needed for wp7 on that portion of my card
But problem is that it heppened after I installed WP7 even if I changed it for Android.
I'm sorry I forgot to mention that the last time it heppened I was usnig android NAND.

quite a significant oversight not mentioning Android does it as well!
lol
ok, well i suggest you flash back to a official standard WM6.5 ROM, that will erase the HSPL/SPL and MAGLDR, if its still happening then its going to be a hardware issue with your phone.

Only flashing a official Windows Mobile ROM by SD will revert HSPL back to SPL. If you flash via RUU you will have to use HSPL 4 to revert back to SPL.

yes his right, but if you didnt know that then i suggest you search and read up on it, there can be a few wee problems flashing via SD, mostly around the SD card not working, so read up, do it, and see if it makes a difference!
