Hedphone Jack fails to work after call - G1 General

I have a strange problem. In my truck, I have an old Nokia bluetooth hands free that works great with the G1 and I can make and get calls with it. I use a headphone cable to send tunes and podcast to the radio as I drive around.
When I get a call, the music pauses, and I can pick it up on the hands free. But when the call ends, the music resumes but only plays out the speaker on the back of the phone. I have to unplug and replug the headphone adapter before it works again. Annoying if I get a lot of calls and I just know this connector is not going to last with the repeated use.
I have tried a few different headphone adapters with the same result. It does this under the music app and DoggCatcher, the only two apps I have tried.
Is this a bug in the G1 or just my phone? And ideas how to fix?
I am running JF 1.51.
Thanks

r u using the htc dongle connector?

I have the little right angle adapter and the 3-in-1 htc adapter that both have the problem.

i read awhile ago that after cupcake the 3 in 1 htc adapters were having issues. do a nandroid back up. uninstall all paid apps the wipe and re flah ur rom see if it helps. if it doesnt u can alway revert back to ur back up. what recovery image do u have?

I have a nandroid backup and all the apps and data backed up with My Backup. It just takes a good 4 hours to reinstall all the apps and get the phone back to the way I like it. I would rather try another rom at the same time. I need to find time.
I am just wondering if anyone else does this BT + headphone jack combo so I know it's a problem that can be fixed by flashing, or is it a strange bug that I found.

if u want to flash a rom without flashing try cyanogen 4.0.1 u can come from jf apd without a wipe. with nandroid everything is backed up no need to redo set ups if u restore ur nandroid

Ah, I thought nandroid only did a backup of the flashed rom, not the apps and data too. Good to know. I will give that a shot. Thanks.

i remember when this used to happen on the old haykuro sapphire ports...... good times

Well, I am running Cyanogen 4.0.2 now and it still does it. This is getting silly.

No sound on speaker, headones ok though.

Hi guys using a custom rom - kumars leo 2.2 wwe 1/29/10. Seemed to be going fine, but ive noticed (im sure it was working before) that the sound doesn't work. No ringtones, message alerts or alarm sounds, sat nav. Nothing plays in the media player or warning sounds. If i plug the headphones in it works perfectly - everything. The speaker phone works too, but i think that comes out of a different speaker to the main one.
I just flashed to 2.06.50.23_3 Radio to see if that would help but no go. Anyway to test why its not working?
Thanks.

I had a virtually identical problem at one point in the past. In my case the solution involved one very important thing. Perhaps it will work for you.
Sometimes, if you use "clean-up" software, the program may delete a particular folder that's vital to sounds being enabled. You wouldn't think so, but this folder MUST exist. It's called the Volatile folder. It can be empty, but it must exist (don't ask me why).
It should be located in the Device/Application Data folder. If it's not there, create it. As I said earlier, it can be empty. It doesn't matter. Just make sure you have a folder called Volatile inside that Application Data folder.
Yes, there's another Application Data folder on the Storage Card. Not there! You must put the Volatile folder in Device memory.
Good luck!
Peter
P.S. I'm using a stock HTC ROM, so I don't know if this solution will work for you.
P.P.S. Don't forget to soft reset after creating the Volatile folder.
Hi PeterHTC, thanks for your reply. I do have that folder in aplication data. I removed hspl and put the original o2 rom back on, still same problem - all fine with headphones.
So i gave up and took it back to the shop. They are sending it off, should take about 10 working days, so ill report back.
Cheers.
I know my speaker went out about 13 days after purchase. I thought the same thing, that it was something that got wiped playing with a rom. But with one exception I gave the phone a good tap while it was playing a sound clip and I could get the speaker to function for short times. Then it just finally gave up the ghost. I figured bad wiring. I never dropped it or did anything to come close to harming it.
I'm got a replacement sent out(works great so far) and I still have to send back the other one. Starting to wonder if the first few batches were hastily made and now the costumer is paying for it with phones that keep failing in odd ways. It's to be expected till they have all the bugs out. You can do all the testing you want but till something hits the public you'll never find them all.

Repair using PC companion. Maybe a software glitch.
nope still no go didnt work
this never happened with 1.6, theres lot of reports of this happening with 2.1 though
Remove the battery, remove the sim card and clean contacts, remove memory card and clean contacts, wait 5 minutes and put everything back together.
If nothing works, just use your warranty.
I use to get this once awhile..... not so often with the new aosp firmware (mainly cause I haven't been using it the same way I use to.....) but I use to get what you got too. Never able to fix it.
what firmware are you using now? have you got link please?
Same FW everyone is running on. The AOSP 2.1 ROM 007a. Check in the development section
i dont think i have warranty, because i removed the touch module to put a white cover on ect.
now its getting stuck on the sony ericsson and rebooting again
and yes it was doing this crap before i changed housings
i installed rogers 1.6 ( even though im in AUS lol ) and its working fine now.
i wonder if it would be the same on rogers 2.1
Rogers doesn't mess much with the FW so worth a try to update to 2.1.
just tryed, same crap it crashes sometimes on boot and sometimes after 5 mins of use
will just switch off or reboot
i installed that ROM you got using recovery manager
its not where nere as bad as it was before, it only happens about 5 mins into a phone call, i can actually charge my phone, play game ect and it doesnt reboot

hd 2 problems with headphone

have htc hd2 and when i conect se x10i's headphone my hd2 will restarting and again and again restarts can sombody tell me why restarts phone? i have already next rom and phone again restarts , probably wants htc headphones?
I have used many different wired headphones with multiple roms with no problems. I'm not familiar with what kind of headphones you are attempting to use, however, if they are Bluetooth headphones I know many roms have problems when trying use this kind.
I would read up on your next roms to make sure Bluetooth is working at 100%
not bluetuth i have headphone with cable
Hmmm ... I was really hoping the answer would be so simple! Perhaps the problem is simply a glitch that occurred at the time of flashing the rom. Have you tried to task 29 so as to start fresh when you install? If there was anything wrong with a previous rom and then you just flashed over it without completely wiping your device it is very probable that the problem/glitch was carried over with each new rom installed.
If you are anything like me not having use of headphones will be quite the inconvenience for you! Search for the hd2 toolkit and use it to task 29, flash magldr/clk, cwm, repartion your recovery, etc ... This program is THE all-in-one tool for any hd2 user and is VERY straight forward.
High hopes from me that you can quickly remedy your problem. Cheers

I think your headset is not compatible with hd2, you should try with another headset (htc, blackberry, iphone: this are tested as working!).
Another thing to mention is, if the headphones have a slight cut in their cables, or there are connection issues, your phone may randomly start/stop/fast-forward/skip tracks or reboot.
And yes, I'm saying this because I used to have this problem with headphones I was testing.
Test yours on a different device or test it on your pc while twisting the cable from the beginning to the end and see if there is any hiss or scratch noise. (scratch? lol )
Which rom are you using? I'm currently on tytung ics 1.5 and it always has a problem with the default music app. I'm pretty sure its because of dsp manager. I just disconnect headphones and reconnect and restart app and it works for another hour or so before having to do it again.
That's a question a noob might ask, but not a noob question...

I have this EXACT problem. I tried to flash a different rom, several different roms actually. It is the strangest thing. I didn't drop it or anything. The problem is that the phone constantly thinks that a headset is plugged in, even if one is not plugged in. You can use the app Soundabout, and disable headset detection as a workaround. I ordered a new headphone jack, thinking it must be hardware, and something broken in the jack. I replaced the headphone jack, and am still having the same problem.
It's crazy that this exact thing is happening to you too... makes me wonder... when did it start for you? What radio do you have? Have you used a slimport adapter at some point?
The only thing left I can think of is reflashing bootloader and radio. Going to try that now and report back.

Its start this week i have radio 54 but i try every radio and no i dont use this adapterand thanx for the app that you post but this is a Temporary solution
Yes, the app is a temp fix... and it gets annoying. I tried to flash bootloader and radios, and still no luck. I asked about slimport, because it is the only "new" thing I have done with my phone recently. I was on .54 radio too, but switched back to 48 or 44 (cant remember which it is at the moment, the american 4.2.2 radio)
can you verify that the app does allow your phone to work? It is very odd that we have the same pfroblem. Do you flash roms often? I do about once a week
i back to stock rom from miui rom in this week and then the problem start
it seems like mine broke after a rom flash as well. I was on june 10 build of PA, then went to june 14 build. clean flash back didnt fix though

i think this is a Hardware problem Because we flash roms and Nothing help
I am inclined to agree. I wanted to test all options first though. I called Google again last night, and the support guy said he has heard this a few times, and they always wind up replacing the phone.

earphone jack issue?

So, i was having some issues with the earphone i had bought recently, but having a few problems with the same brand sometimes earlier (microsoft really put up a really interesting choice with the low price and really good bass and sound quality for its pricing, but damn, those things had caused me two replacements in earlier models) i was considering taking it to the warranty and getting a new one, fine.
Then i got the moto earphone (had never used it, was in that plastic thingy yet) to get me through the day and i put the ms one in the bag, but when i started walking, the same problems appeared. The volume would get lower, sound getting distorted, and the song started to cut to the point it would recognize as if the headphone has been unplugged and i have to start the music again. i'm no expert but i think we've got some issues here son
I went to master google in search for answers and i've found that people have been having these kinds of issues since the first generation moto g, some even got a replacement and the jack would still come faulty, there were a major "consent" that the fault was the pocket lint inside, and cleaning it would solve the problem, but my phone doesn't have even two goddamn weeks, it didn't even had time to get dirty. (and i tried it cleaning, only a lil hair came out) I am currently listening to music, and it's perfect, when the phone stays still. If i start moving it around or mess with the connector, the issues come back again.
Does someone had this problem here too? found some solution besides the pocket lint thing? i didn't found any post here on xda related to that, and i really don't wanna send it ro warranty 'cause i need it really bad for my work, and i know it's gonna take some time in there, the problem can even come back...
Please, show me a light.
I have a problem where moving the headphone jack a small amount would stop music playback its so annoying. I mostly use Bluetooth headphones though.

Moving it also distorts the sound to the point it stops. Normally this happens with detective earphones, but the jack is new to me.
I'm sure it's the jack, I just got new headphones too. What you can do is expand that contact strip in the jack inward, hence better contact? I haven't done this yet though

yea, it is the jack indeed... are you facing this problem too?
i tried pulling it out a bit, but no results. Some random "solutions in the internet tell to put something behing that first metal contact strip... it that so?
So I kinda solved the problem these days... I bought a tpu case, and it has stopped. I guess that the phone is too slim, and it keeps banging in the pocket, making the jack loose and stopping the song. Now the phone is kinda bulky, fits right in the pocket, I can even run with it and the sound is still perfect. Sad that I gotta use this case, makes the phone Hella ugly, but yeah, I solved the problem
If anyone is facing it, try this, might work for you too.
Fixed my problem
I'd just like to add that I also suffered from this same issue (to the letter, volume decrease, distortion and all). It happened once a few weeks in but now, a few months later, it was happening so often that I had to give up using headphones.
Well, here's the thing: I contact Motorola and they give me the old crap about rebooting in safe mode and testing, or doing a factory reset.
As I KNOW this is a hardware issue, I just go ahead and reinstall the factory image (I was previously rooted) planning to send it in for repair/replacement: low and behold: it's fixed. So installing the original firmware and going through the setup (but choosing not to reinstall all my apps -new device option) fixed the problem. I have no idea how this can be. Maybe an app made the phone react too much to slight disturbances in the connection? When I have time, I'll be restoring my backup to see if the problem comes back, and uninstall apps one by one (starting with the xposed modules and other root apps).
I've been using the headphones a lot in the past 5 days with absolutely no issues.
tl:dr OP's exact problem, what seemed like a hardware fault, was fixed by a factory reset.

Now that was unexpected lol. Anyways, thanks for the reply, i've seen much of this kinds of problems on the internet, but none of it came to a conclusion, the posts die after sometime. I hope someone finds the answer in your reply.
So, i bricked my phone sometime ago and installed the factory image. i've been using the tpu case since it came, as i stated before, it has solved my problems (i think mainly because the phone get bulkier, fits into the jeans pocket and stop moving, so the jack isn't affected by any kind of movement and it works perfectly), but after you said that i recalled, there was one day when i forgot the case at home, and unaware of that i went working with the headphone and it worked perfectly, i just noticed i had forgot the case in my way home. I'll do some further testing without the case, but your solution might just have hit the right spot.

Did you, by any chance, have GravityBox installed on your phone when it was playing up? Also/or, where you using an unmodified ROM, as that's what I'm using usually (deodexed but stock) I've just restored my backup (that's rooted and has a few xposed modules on) and sure enough first time I touch the jack with music playing, it plays up (this time it triggered the voice command, which it did do some times). So I think to start by disabling GravityBox as that modifies a lot of stuff... Reboot, and the damn thing seems to work perfectly, I'm tugging and pulling at the jack right now and it's working perfectly.
I find it a bit too much to believe, and I don't want to lose GravityBox as that's a big reason I root.
One explanation I can come up with is that Motorola saw there was a problem and they fixed it in software, and installing AOSP or GravityBox that changes system files, gets rid of that software "fix".

Well, try to trigger the problem a couple of times with gravity box installed. I don't have it, installed xposed once and had major lag, stuttering and FC problems, then i took the ting off. Didn't test the jack thing, but i've never been a hard xposed user.
I really think my problem is hardware-related, but tonight i'll head home without the case and report back here.
If I am on a stock Moto ROM, I have the problem. When I moved to AOSP/CM based ROM's, I can manipulate my headphones without causing it to stop.. I think maybe the stock kernel is a bit too sensitive and stops it with just a little bit of disconnection vs a more lax implementation in AOSP/CM...
So I've ran my tests: climbed stairs, climbed down stairs, run a Lil bit, shake my hips (they don't lie) and messed around my pocket: no sign of Jack problems. I guess that flashing stock firmware again did the job, as you have stated earlier. I'm going to stop using the case and go jogging, or going more often to work listening to music without it, but after today field tests, I'm sure the issue is gone.

Just an update: I give up. I've tried multiple things, including almost bricking my device. I cannot find something definite at all. Installing a clean factory image (or a rom that has not been changed much) will get rid of the problem, even with root. However after restoring my TitaniumBackup of about 140 apps, the problem came back for a while. I noticed it after enabling MotoVoice, so I disabled moto voice and it disappeared, but then re-enabling moto voice didn't make the problem come back... And that is why I give up. I've ordered a pair of Bluetooth headphones.
I think that flashing the stock firmware again is the ultimate solution to solve the problem. After some tests I really couldn't trigger it again, so I guess that's the end of it
The problem is that the issue is so random I can't seem to find a proper way to trigger or to say it is 100% solved. I've read about it happening since the first generation moto g, seems like a hardware issue, but...
My headphone jack wont work properly when i insert the headphones into the jack completely but it works fine when i pull out a lil of the pin of headphones out of the headphone jack whats the deal its too annoying
