Proxy for Wifi - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hi Guys,
Did a search on this and it appears WIFI Proxy's arn't available on the Hero which is damn annoying!
Any ideas when this might be available, I did find an app that might work but sadly didn't, it was on some google page somewhere! Doh!
anyone able to either point to another app, or know when this might get fixed!
Rich

Nope... Android doesn't support proxys over wifi at all.
Whilst Android does have a "HTTP Proxy" setting hidden away (the app you got modifys this setting) the only app that could use it was the web browser, but as of Android 1.5... Google in there infinate wisdom stopped or broke even that.
And I don't expect Google to add it any time soon... like most things that are basic fundamental settings that should have been in Android since day one (it was in development for years before it was announced wasn't it?) .

Its damn annoying!!! Can't use it at work at all..........really annoying...hope its fixed soon or someone builds an app!
Thanks for your response

How to access cisco security page on browser

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can find an answer to this problem. Well my school has wifi but its thru cisco. And with cisco you need to sign into a security site on the broswer and from there you can enter a username and passcode for the internet. The problem is the google browser or dolphin browser wont even let me get to the security page. it always says' web pafe not available' and the link im trying to go to is http://1.1.1.1
Is there anything i can do to resolve this issue? thanks
also these people are having the same issue..
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1597
What ROM are you using?
I have tested this specific bug with Dwang 1.7.1 and had no problems accessing the page.
just using the original tmobile rom. tried using the regular browser and dolphin browser but no luck.
Oh, yeah, you are going to have problems then. I reverted and tested the current original T-Mobile ROM a long time ago and found that it still did not work. This bug is not only on Cisco WCS devices, I have also tested it on an Aruba captive portal. (Both of which I have admin rights to.)
I think the issue has something to do with the type of initial redirect that captive portals use. (Which IIRC is an HTTP 301 or 302.) However, I have not really pursued testing since I have rooted my G1 and use custom ROMs that have fixed this bug.
BTW, this bug has been around since release of the G1.
An easy way to check to see if it is an HTTP 300 problem, is to try the following links in your G1 browser:
http://www.seoconsultants.com/w3c/status-codes/301.asp
http://www.seoconsultants.com/w3c/status-codes/302.asp
Both links should redirect you to the home page http://www.seoconsultants.com
Both links redirect correctly in my G1 browser.
Edit: Ahh, I read that open issue, and it seems to be a self signed cert handling problem. That would make sense. Never mind the stuff above then. However, the solution remains the same. Root your phone, use a custom rom (I recommend Dwang 1.7.1) and enjoy your WiFi.

If you lost the ability to see the mobile pages then you need to install the latest MT addition from Cyanogen. There was an issue with the first MT add on he put out and fixed it in the second one.
I recommend going back and re applying the MT add on and you should be able to see mobile pages again.
You can also D/L Google Maps 4.0 with built in Buzz support. Just go to the market, click on the downloads tab, and the update should be waiting for you!
Anyone knows why I don't have the update promted yet? Is it US only? (I'm oversea).
Also, if I go to buzz website on my N1, I can see the interface, but if I post a Buzz.. it keep spinning a small wheel in front of it, and it never completes (nor posts my Buzz)
Any ideea?
I got the same issue. Maybe it is because our gmail hasn't been updated with Buzz yet.
update google maps in the market
Anyone else find it subliminally retarded that Google puts the Nexus one behind the Iphone on its Buzz page ?
heh yeah, I noticed that myself...
However, here: http://www.google.com/intl/en/mobile/buzz/ there is an iPhone surrounded by 2 N1's.
Go figure.
I understand google though - people with androids will probably get buzz anyway in some future update (won't be surprised if it will be come a builtin app/link like google goggles) - but the real challenge is for them to get iPhone users to use it, pushing them more towards the google cloud.

click get buzz on you phone. you will be happy too see it has a nexus one first then a iphone, followed by another N1. if that helps you a bit lol
I'm quite liking buzz. It's so easy for me to see what people in my area are saying and I can just strike up a conversation with them.
Initially I thought 'How will they get people to leave Twitter to do this' then you realise pretty much everyone is already registered (I'm following people already who have never heard of Buzz!) it's just if they choose to use it.

After a few tries I got to post a buzz both from the page in the browser, and from google maps.
But, now I can't delete the two posts...
Lots of spinning wheels. Seems unfinished.
But I like the idea. Hope it will work better in the coming days

I had those issues too - read that it might have to do with the accepting terms thing not registered properly so I wiped my Browser cache and rebooted.
Seems to still do it but then later I'll see it was posted. Also seems to do it straight after a reboot, but then become sluggish. Still glitchy I guess
Dayz
Edit - Just updated maps and the Buzz Layer thing seems to work better than the one via mobile google. What will be useful I think once it takes off, is that you can pop over to a place and look for any buzz about traffic or weather problems that people might post from a location.

Thanks. Reflashing the mt addon allowed me to see mobile pages again. Buzz works fine now.
I've updated my Maps application to version 4 via Market, but I am not seeing the Buzz layer in Maps.
I wonder is it because this is being rolled out on a country by country basis?
The buzz layer is not enabled by default, you need to press the options, and then choose layers->buzz.
The easiest way to check if your gmap version is correct is to go to options->about - it should be 4.0.0 (#4046).

Thanks. My Maps is of the version you have listed. However when I go to Layers, I do not see the Buzz layer available for selection. Maybe, like Navigation, this Buzz layer will be turned on for other countries bit by bit?
Anyway I'll wait and see how it goes.

My3G for Android?

iPhone users have a program called my3g which tricks the phone into thinking you're on wifi when you're really on 3g so you can watch full episodes on tv.com, etc.
Does the droid have anything like this?
For some reason when I asked this question I got a very unsatisfactory reply. I don't think my fellow Android users like playing second fiddle to the iPhone hacker community. My3G was awesome for me when I had my iPhone. Now I have all sorts of problems with certain apps wanting me to be on wifi only with my EVO. It pisses me off and I have not found a work around yet. Let me know if you discovered anything please.
Was there such a program like My3G for Androidd?....
I've never had an app required wifi.... What apps? Maybe we can find a solution.

for example, there is in israel the Bezeq company.
thay got android app that you can use the same number as your lend line phone on the android device... but thay allow only to use it in wifi connection.
thats way i need to imitate wifi connection on 3G internet...
if you search for "bezeq" in the market you will finde the app.
thanks
Also, the market (and Amazon market) force you to use WiFi to download large apps. I have an unlimited plan, and would like to be able to download these on 3g.
I take it there has still been no solution found to this problem? I want to trick my phone to think it's on wifi in order for itv player to work.

I would really like to see my3g (or something like it) for Android. It was very useful on iOS and now that I use Android full time it is one thing I miss. I assume the reason something like this is not as popular on Android yet is in the past it has not been as necessary or useful as it is on a jailbroken iPhone.
Personally, I would pay good money for an Android app to provide this option.

Citrix Receiver - Xoom

Anyone know why the Citrix receiver force closes after entering the cloud information?
Was really hoping that I could use this for work when I'm out of the office.
It actually looks optimized for tablets...
Nope... really bumming me out
Same problem here... hopefully they fix this soon!
For me doesn't force close but after logging in the application icons are just unresponsive.
Out of curiousity are you using an AGEE? Token auth? I'm gathering details to send to the product managers.
not exactly sure to be honest... I'll give you as much as I can though...
I'm entering...
Username
Password
Domain
Description (although this doesn't matter)
I'm checking "use Citrix Access Gateway"
Gateway Type: Standard Edition
Gateway Authentication: Domain Only
--------
After I enter in the right info (i know this because it works on android phones fine)... it auto logs into the cloud and then FCs when I open the app.
If you need an error report... I can try to get one, otherwise let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks man.
I too am interested to see how well (if at all) this works...keep us posted...

I really hope this works. If you load the app you can tell instantly it loads differently than the phone version... which is sort of odd.
The other day at work a guy got the atrix and the dock... but the thing is loading anything through the phone on the laptop dock is sort of meh because it just expands it as much as it can while keeping it in the right aspect ratios.
So it stretches it out and that's about it, while running it on the phone. There is a minimal few that run on the dock fully.
So that's why I was hoping the Citrix app would run well on the Xoom. I/We can hope!
Well I tested it on my EVO, and it works perfectly. On the Xoom, it connects to my app store but the published apps themselves won't open. I can see the app list, but tapping on them does nothing. A bit odd, and no FC's.
I tried to connect using Enterprise and RSA. I got the force close after I entered my rsa and tried to connect. It thought about it for a minute and then FC. I got the same thing using the Labs Receiver.
Same issues on my end. I put in the information for our external web interface, set to Enterprise and correct auth and immediately after hitting OK I got FCs. I tried both the Citrix Receiver and Lab version, same on both.

Same here, loads fine, can see my apps, but nothing launches. Works fine on my coworkers I pad, which he pointed out often and repeatedly.
I've spoken with support and opened an SR. They acknowledge it is broken and do not have an ETA for a fix

Well, if Citrix support is anything like most other front-line support rep's, the person you spoke with may simply not be in the loop with software releases.
Honeycomb is begging for an update to the Citrix Receiver, it would really entice a lot of other admins like me to adopt these into the enterprise. How many of us would love to be able to whip out our tablet and remotely reboot a server?

I'm gain for an update. I to am able to see apps and add them to the home page but will not open. Can't help but wonder if there is a token that needs to be imported, hummmm I guess I need to ask my admin.
Citrix update!
Notes: Support for Android 3.0 Honeycomb.
YAY!
Yep, tested and it works well.

Awesome news! Tested, working as it should!
anyone having issues with installing a trusted source certificate? like register.com. My xoom errors out saying that the certificate is not a part of the trusted store.
THRILLED to see the CR updated for 3.0! Works just as well as the previous version for 2.2. This app alone (for me) makes the Xoom well worth it's purchase price and monthly dues.
It always worked on my EVO, but a tablet screen is oh so sweeeet.

[Q] Unable to access internet with hotspots that require browser action

I have a Nook Simple Touch rooted with the latest Nooter and one issue Im running into is connecting to hotspots that require some kind of browser action to connect to the internet (e.g. hotels/airport that require login or simply "I agree").
After connecting to the hotspot Ive tried Opera mobile and the stock browser but just get a page cannot be found rather then being redirected to the access page.
Anyone have thoughts on how to get this working?
Thanks!
I do usually get redirected when opening Opera Mobile. I know this isn't an answer, but what you're experiencing doesn't seem to be the norm.
Does this happen at all such hotspots, or just a select few?

Honestly, I've only tried this once so far at Logan Airport today, but en route to a hotel for the week so will check again there and report back.
I have Opera defaulting to the "my opera" page, are you saying you automatically get redirected the moment you open Opera or after you try to go to a website?

Ah, LOGAN! I wish you'd mentioned that up front. Logan is an antiquated hell hole that should be condemned. I fly into and out of it several times per month. Their wifi setup is no better, apparently set up by the same clowns that did the signage in Central Parking. Nothing is obvious, and many things are hidden.
I often can't connect at all using Linux. If I fire up Windows, MSIE allows me to connect. They make you watch a BMW commercial or take a survey to access wifi once you find the right stupid button to click. Even then, it barely works.
It's the Logan Lottery. Good luck getting your bags quickly. Good luck with parking. And hope like hell the tunnel doesn't collapse again.
I think you'll find that most post-1990 wifi installations can be dealt with using Opera Mobile just fine. Give up in the Twilight Zone.
Ha! Well good to know. Hopefully Ill have better luck elsewhere. Ill be sure to post back results.
Thanks again!
