How to access cisco security page on browser - G1 General

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can find an answer to this problem. Well my school has wifi but its thru cisco. And with cisco you need to sign into a security site on the broswer and from there you can enter a username and passcode for the internet. The problem is the google browser or dolphin browser wont even let me get to the security page. it always says' web pafe not available' and the link im trying to go to is http://1.1.1.1
Is there anything i can do to resolve this issue? thanks
also these people are having the same issue..

What ROM are you using?
I have tested this specific bug with Dwang 1.7.1 and had no problems accessing the page.

just using the original tmobile rom. tried using the regular browser and dolphin browser but no luck.

Oh, yeah, you are going to have problems then. I reverted and tested the current original T-Mobile ROM a long time ago and found that it still did not work. This bug is not only on Cisco WCS devices, I have also tested it on an Aruba captive portal. (Both of which I have admin rights to.)
I think the issue has something to do with the type of initial redirect that captive portals use. (Which IIRC is an HTTP 301 or 302.) However, I have not really pursued testing since I have rooted my G1 and use custom ROMs that have fixed this bug.
BTW, this bug has been around since release of the G1.
An easy way to check to see if it is an HTTP 300 problem, is to try the following links in your G1 browser:
http://www.seoconsultants.com/w3c/status-codes/301.asp
http://www.seoconsultants.com/w3c/status-codes/302.asp
Both links should redirect you to the home page http://www.seoconsultants.com
Both links redirect correctly in my G1 browser.
Edit: Ahh, I read that open issue, and it seems to be a self signed cert handling problem. That would make sense. Never mind the stuff above then. However, the solution remains the same. Root your phone, use a custom rom (I recommend Dwang 1.7.1) and enjoy your WiFi.

Proxy for Wifi

Hi Guys,
Did a search on this and it appears WIFI Proxy's arn't available on the Hero which is damn annoying!
Any ideas when this might be available, I did find an app that might work but sadly didn't, it was on some google page somewhere! Doh!
anyone able to either point to another app, or know when this might get fixed!
Rich
Nope... Android doesn't support proxys over wifi at all.
Whilst Android does have a "HTTP Proxy" setting hidden away (the app you got modifys this setting) the only app that could use it was the web browser, but as of Android 1.5... Google in there infinate wisdom stopped or broke even that.
And I don't expect Google to add it any time soon... like most things that are basic fundamental settings that should have been in Android since day one (it was in development for years before it was announced wasn't it?) .
Its damn annoying!!! Can't use it at work at all..........really annoying...hope its fixed soon or someone builds an app!
Thanks for your response

Opening links/url from twitter

Hello
When I try to open/read url posted in a twitter client (tried many),
I cant read page and it just sits there with a blank page.
Wifi is working and so does mobile net (GSM) and opening pages manually
in browser both default and dolphin works just fine.
Running HTC Hero with 1.5 ROM version (one that came with the phone
and I just hacked it a bit to get a root access, nothing else)
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this "bug" ?
There seems to be a specific ammount of time you need to hold the url
Hope its sorted in 2.1.
Using Modaco 3.2, and HTC Peep, I've no such issues.
Regards,
Dave
Seams to be working now (as G8D said) but it takes at least 15 sec to show anything in preview or in browser. Hope that 2.x is just around the corner with some speed improvements regarding this bug.

[Q] Stock browser pagination

Hi
Has anyone noticed how the stock android browser "paginates" some web sites. I don't know if that's the correct word to describe it, but I mean when it separates a web site into several pages and you have to click continue at the end to see the rest of the content. Also, when you see the list of open tabs next to the title you see "(1/3)".
I find it very annoying and haven't found a way to disable it. Does anyone know how to do it?
This happens to me using a Galaxy 3, that's why I'm asking in this forum. Could some other user of this phone please confirm if it happens in your phone too?
Thanks.
let me guess. This happens generally when you are using google search and click one of the links.. right?
It happens when using google search, but also when entering the site URL directly. For instance, I just loaded emol.com (local newspaper) and I got the paginated view. I'm also getting it when accessing this very same forum, which makes it almost unusable.
So nobody else has seen this behavior?
I figured this would be a good place to ask, lots of users of this phone. Would you please suggest some other place to post this question if it is not relevant here?
Thanks
Finally, mistery solved. I figured it only happened when using 3G and not when using WiFi. I went to the APN settings and the default APN had a proxy server enabled. I removed the proxy address and now all pages look as they should. So,
it wasn't android browser's fault, it was my network operator's. No wonder I couldn't find anything about this issue.
Sorry for all the annoying posts

[Q] Cannot send email (not gmail)

Using the built in email client I can no longer send email's. I get the on-screen message of "Saved as Draft". I haven't changed the programs configuration to cause it. I did install Droidwall, but I disabled it as a test, no effect. I did also as a test change the outgoing server to a different one for my ISP. both the original and new servers SEEM to test right, i get no error when the email client tests the settings, but I don't get a Success either. I am also on my home network so no issues there with it having to handle extra security by coming through another ISP.
Anyone seen this on the email client in HC3.2?
@Nova5 - My few thoughts on this problem. What is your setup? i.e. (1) Are you rooted? (I'm guessing you are) (2) Are you using a custom ROM, if so which one? (3) Are you using a custom Kernel, if so which one? (4) Have you installed any updates which might be causing the problem?.
I use stock "Email", personal preference, because I like it better than "Gmail" and don't experience any problems. I'm on "KEKINASH's near-stock 3.2HC ROM with stock Kernel". This reply may not directly help solve your problem but may give you or others food for thought.
it was the rooted stock iconia 3.2 rom found on this forum.

Very little if any difference in the rom I'm using. In which case it's cold comfort and not very helpful for me to say that Email runs with no problem on my setup, both receiving and sending. At a loss to suggest why it doesn't run for you. Perhaps some other poster might have an inspiration.

Nova5, since this worked previously and it looks like you installed a firewall (DroidWall), it does sound like the likely culprit. Have you tried uninstalling it instead of disabling it? I'm not familiar with that software but disabling it may not necessary be stopping it from blocking access.
Keep us posted.

[Q] Facebook links not opening in any browser

Hi all.
I updated my N9005 to the latest firmware and faced no problems while residing in the middle east. However, ever since I came back, I have noticed that clicking on any external links posted on facebook do not open in any browser. It just displays "This web page is not available" and when i click on "MORE" button, it shows "the connection to m.facebook.com was interrupted."
I tried changing the client to desktop to no avail. Then I tried using VPN and sure enough the pages loaded just fine. But on other devices, such as Iphone and tablets, I don't need VPN to open such links. Alternatively, I tried manually adding https:// to links and the page opens successfully. Not only is it irritating, but mind boggling also. At first I suspected my ISP but since other devices connected to the same wifi do not pose this problem, it all comes down to this device.
Any help in isolating and solving this problem shall be highly appreciated.
Btw, I am using stock rom. My apologies if this issue has already been discussed but I was unable to find it.
thanks,
