Hello
When I try to open/read url posted in a twitter client (tried many),
I cant read page and it just sits there with a blank page.
Wifi is working and so does mobile net (GSM) and opening pages manually
in browser both default and dolphin works just fine.
Running HTC Hero with 1.5 ROM version (one that came with the phone
and I just hacked it a bit to get a root access, nothing else)
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this "bug" ?
There seems to be a specific ammount of time you need to hold the url
Hope its sorted in 2.1.
Using Modaco 3.2, and HTC Peep, I've no such issues.
Regards,
Dave
Seams to be working now (as G8D said) but it takes at least 15 sec to show anything in preview or in browser. Hope that 2.x is just around the corner with some speed improvements regarding this bug.

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can find an answer to this problem. Well my school has wifi but its thru cisco. And with cisco you need to sign into a security site on the broswer and from there you can enter a username and passcode for the internet. The problem is the google browser or dolphin browser wont even let me get to the security page. it always says' web pafe not available' and the link im trying to go to is http://1.1.1.1
Is there anything i can do to resolve this issue? thanks
also these people are having the same issue..
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1597
What ROM are you using?
I have tested this specific bug with Dwang 1.7.1 and had no problems accessing the page.
just using the original tmobile rom. tried using the regular browser and dolphin browser but no luck.
Oh, yeah, you are going to have problems then. I reverted and tested the current original T-Mobile ROM a long time ago and found that it still did not work. This bug is not only on Cisco WCS devices, I have also tested it on an Aruba captive portal. (Both of which I have admin rights to.)
I think the issue has something to do with the type of initial redirect that captive portals use. (Which IIRC is an HTTP 301 or 302.) However, I have not really pursued testing since I have rooted my G1 and use custom ROMs that have fixed this bug.
BTW, this bug has been around since release of the G1.
An easy way to check to see if it is an HTTP 300 problem, is to try the following links in your G1 browser:
http://www.seoconsultants.com/w3c/status-codes/301.asp
http://www.seoconsultants.com/w3c/status-codes/302.asp
Both links should redirect you to the home page http://www.seoconsultants.com
Both links redirect correctly in my G1 browser.
Edit: Ahh, I read that open issue, and it seems to be a self signed cert handling problem. That would make sense. Never mind the stuff above then. However, the solution remains the same. Root your phone, use a custom rom (I recommend Dwang 1.7.1) and enjoy your WiFi.
Is ANyone NOticing the lag in Browsers.
I have tried Miren, Dolphin HD, Opera and STock Browser and neither of these browsers was ale to open even www.streaksmart.com and few other websites.
There is something wrong with the radio signals may be.
I have successfully applied D_Steves Performance tweaks and others mentioned here, Yes, the phone is getting a Quadrant of 1600+ but being not able to Browse some websites sucks big time.
It has nothing to do with the tweaks, Dell ****ed up again, Not to mention there no App with Front Facing Camera usage for Video Chat.....
Why the Hell is this happening???
Anyone else having sluggish browsing, Fards or DJ_Steve coould you Please look into that since you are the only Genius Chaps I know of....
I've noticed this too, I'm on T-mobile 2g and even though that may seem slow, it worked like a charm with 2.1. Then I switched to the 00 baseband with steve's build, and google seems to be the only site that works half the time. I was about to switch to the official 2.2, but hearing that you're having trouble as well is discomforting..
Its an identified bug.
Apparently opera and firefox work fine.
Dell are aware of this problem.

But both Opera and FireFox don't support Flash, Correct me if I am right???
THanks for answering mate!!!

I can't find what's causing the error admittedly I'm no longer on stock so stopped working on it si much) I. Suspect its an error in the dell webkit Source code, and is likely to need a fix from them. they have stopped the roll out to fix it
As I know from dell facebook page, dell is working on this "too many redirects" problem, but I have worse case and I don't know if it's just me or everyone on 12332 build with smokku performance fix, on 3G very often some random websites can't be open (web page not available) even when I start default browser on which google.co.uk is default, it can't be open - it's loading and loading and after a while a web page not available error appears, and just a bit later it works again, so I visit another website and it's loaded stright away but after a while the same problem. I don't have it on 2G or via wifi, the same behaviour is on dolphin hd browser, so it does not depend on the browser, could you check that for me, please?

Yeah, I have the same problem too mate, don't worry you are not the only one suffering here, dell screwed us up again, Dolphin hd didn't work at all for me, i was unable to open a single webpage especially in desktop mode, right now i am using skyfire v3.0 and it is working very efficiently, give that a try and let me know how it works out for you, we can only wait for dell to fix this...
Bbtw I hour the same issue but it only started today, everything worked fine before I've been on stock 2.2 for a week now and til today browser, stock and dolphin worked fine
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
ok, so I'm not alone yes, I'll try skyfire then,
do you think that dell can fix that issueing just kind of patch or it has to be complete new froyo build?
cheers
Just checked now I only can't get the default browser and dolphin to work on 3g but on wifi its fine, btw it worked on 3g 2 days ago really weird that it stopped now

As they were mid roll out when we highlighted this, im presuming they will push new complete builds out.hopefully they are looking to fix other bugs in there as well
RE: Slow Browser
my pc's internet connection is very slow too, which always drive me crazy, I want a program to solve my slow computer, several days ago my friend recommend me a software tuneup360, now I'm waiting for the result. i wonder do you guys have any good recommendation?
UPDATED: Release 5.0.1 fixed the problem. Back to being my favorite browser!
If the update to version 5 of Dolphin HD refuses to load pages or won't load them at all on your A500, please go to our blog and comment with specifics so we can refer them to Dolphin in the next day or two.
I had the same problems with the beta version and uninstalled it immedietly. We want to keep this A500 specific, but are interested to know if other devices are having the same issues.
Please comment here:

We are not doing this to make money, so don't click any ad links while on our site unless you see something you just have to click on. (We only make a penny per click anyway).
Let's make sure Dolphin pays attention to this quickly.

works fine for me. i just dont like using it because it doesnt seem to be able to download any file over 1mb. it just saves the html if its over. so im using opera. seems to be a better browser anyway.

Agree i too using Opera Mobile since it can download anything.
Only negative is no Flash in Opera yet.
It's because that Google hasn't open the Android 3.0 source code.
but it seems that Opera Mobile support HTML5.
Yeah, the update gave me problems, it is sporadic and hard to track down. When it occurs the pages fail to load properly, and I have to force the program stopped (application manager or task manager) to restore it to a functional state.
But, when it is working, it is a very nice update...
Same for me...I tried the Dolphin beta and had all sorts of issues where the pages wouldn't load any more. I uninstalled it and went back to the stock browser, which is working pretty well since the update. The previous Dolphin HD version was awesome.
Yesterday I installed the newest released version of Dolphin HD and am sharing it's use with the stock browser. It seems to be working okay, but I haven't done much surfing in the last day or so.
Update
Go the Dolphin home page and under the goole search bar you will see "page loading disturbing you now?". It appears this issue may have been addressed with a new beta. It has worked for me but I have only been using it for a short while.

Solved it for me. I was having problems with both my HTC Evo 4G and my Acer A500 with v5.0.0.
On a brand new A500, updated to 3.1 OTA and I have noticed that the 'find on page' in the stock browser does not work. I usually use it if I browse the long list of XDA forums and am trying to find something specific rather than scrolling forever.
Does anyone else care to test this and see if it's broken for them too?
I tested on a small web page and it seemed to work, but when testing on the root of xda developers forum, it does not work. I restarted the tablet, problem still persists. Then I tried doing a factory restore, still the same issue. I also have a Xoom running HC3.2 and it does not have this problem.
Try searching for text like Acer or Xoom on http://forum.xda-developers.com
It will find the instances of what you search for, but the browser will not scroll to where it's located. = broken!
Rob
using the .11 ota build of 3.1 it seemed to work fine for me on the page you linked. It scrolled to and highlighted both of your test words.
Stock browser, not rooted
Hi,Mine works as well I tried test words acer, xoom, thread, and gingerbread.
Now what I have noticed is it only finds the words on the visable page (whats on screen) and only highlights the search words once you have scrolled it onto the visable page. if it is not on the visiable page then it does not show it in the search results.
I called acer and this is normal function for thier stock browser. have you tried to use a different browser as I am sure the result your looking for is you want the search to cover the whole page even the parts not on screen?

The proper behaviour I believe is that the stock browser (like any other browser) is supposed to scroll to where it finds the first instance of what you type and have the letters highlighted. It works (scrolls) correctly on small/medium pages, but fails to scroll to the highlighted text on very large pages like the one I posted. It just sits at the top of the page. The navigation arrows to move to where it found the text (if more than once) also do not work in this case. On a Xoom with 3.2, this feature works fine on the link I provided. I search for 'acer' and the browser scrolls automatically to where it finds the first instance. On the A500 with the latest OTA update, it finds and highlites the text 'acer', but does not scroll to it.
Hope that makes sense.
Rob
mine also does not scroll to the first instance. is it just on the xda web site? or all web pages in your browser? if just xda may have something to do with the web page it self and your browser.

XDA is the first and only one I noticed it on so far. I use the 'find on page' feature a lot because that forum list is so long that it's otherwise hard to find what you are looking for by manually scrolling.
Rob
I have checked my browser and brightness. Both work fine (tested on xda forums) but I'm using a custom browser.apk taken from ASUS Transformer so I can't judge the official version.
I did use the official 3.1 version for a long time (until last week) and search worked just fine. It highlighted and jumped to the first word as it was supposed to. I didn't bother to check if it was the latest version because I'm using a custom rom from day 1 (well actually not day one because we didn't have recovery then but you get the picture ) and I don't get regular OTAs as you guys so maybe it wasn't the latest version.

I tried many times to get the auto brightness working and it would not. Now, coincidentally I just tried it again 1 minute ago and it's working... Go figure .. lol
I'm still trying to figure out this browser glitch...
Rob
Hey rob I dont know if you use custom roms or not but ,I put the new Virtuous XooM H.C. 3.2 on the acer and everything works like a champ. yes its honeycomb 3.2 and fixes all the bugs at least that i can find.
Browser search works right(as mine did not either) wi-fi and gps work like a charm, battery life is way better, the interface is nicer and smoother, it has the new option to make programs tat were made for phone screem fit the tablet screen(nice), and all my media stirages work external usb keyboards harddrives and all, IT just works.
its a shame the tablet is awsome but acers software seems to ruin alot. so far everycomplain i have read about the iconia is not the hardware but acers software thats the problems even the wi-fi and gps issues all seemed to get fixed with software.
Heh. That's why I use Tabonnay rom as a base and then strip out all the Acer and google stuff that I can.
EDIT: Damn now my light sensor isn't working anymore. Meh I'll just get used to it. It's bound to start working sooner or later.
EDIT2: Fixed it.
Not sure if it just me... Since the Touchwiz update I semi to get lots of glitches when browsing web pages... Strangely the problems happen both in stock browser and dolphin hd
1 - often get message that there is a problem with certificate and tipically then if it is a purchase or something following a login then it gets stuck on the page
2 - stalls on random pages... Click on a link and page don't open
3 - can enter information in forms but just some fields...
4 - often can't open hotmail
5 - lots of little issues in facebook.
Etc. Small things but irritating as i had to pull out my pc to complete operations... Even stranger as my android phone never had these kind of issues...
Anybody else with these issues?
Any tips?
the browser crashes when clicking on pull down menu!
I had alot of problems as well including syncing bookmarks. Going into applications and clearing defaults and data seemed to reset the browser for me and haven't had any issue since.

Did anyone notice that if you download a file it shortens the name?
For example when downloading pershoot's kernels this "boot-cm_2636.4_ux-oc-xtra-vfpv3-d16_fp-080911.zip" becomes "boot-cm_2636.zip". Might not see like an issue but if you are downloading the ux version and the non ux there is no way to tell which is which unless you remember which one you download first because the second one will be named "boot-cm_2636-1.zip"

My experience with Xoom stock browser.
I had most of these problems on 3.0.1. With 3.1 update things got better, but still had some problems. I haven't had any problems on 3.2. I set flash On demand, this also helped a little. These seem to be general problems with HC stock browser.
Thanks - at least looks like it might get better as they push out updates to HC - mind you probably Samsung is not going to be in any hurry to do update....
I'd say these issues are not normal, so it's worth trying various things to fix them - I'd start with the already-mentioned clearing of app data, then perhaps a factory reset.
My browsing experience with the 'new' browser that came bundled with the TW update has been nothing but a spectacular improvement. Having flash on-demand and an ad blocking hosts file may also help.
Maybe not relevant, but I read elsewhere that Dolphin is just a front end or skin over the stock browser framework. If true, that might explain why you have the same problem in both. Maybe try Opera and see if it does the same thing?

New browser is incredibly fast and reliable.
Clear your browser's app data in Manage Applications.
