My3G for Android? - Droid X General

iPhone users have a program called my3g which tricks the phone into thinking you're on wifi when you're really on 3g so you can watch full episodes on tv.com, etc.
Does the droid have anything like this?

For some reason when I asked this question I got a very unsatisfactory reply. I don't think my fellow Android users like playing second fiddle to the iPhone hacker community. My3G was awesome for me when I had my iPhone. Now I have all sorts of problems with certain apps wanting me to be on wifi only with my EVO. It pisses me off and I have not found a work around yet. Let me know if you discovered anything please.

Was there such a program like My3G for Androidd?....

I've never had an app required wifi.... What apps? Maybe we can find a solution.

for example, there is in israel the Bezeq company.
thay got android app that you can use the same number as your lend line phone on the android device... but thay allow only to use it in wifi connection.
thats way i need to imitate wifi connection on 3G internet...
if you search for "bezeq" in the market you will finde the app.
thanks

Also, the market (and Amazon market) force you to use WiFi to download large apps. I have an unlimited plan, and would like to be able to download these on 3g.

I take it there has still been no solution found to this problem? I want to trick my phone to think it's on wifi in order for itv player to work.

I would really like to see my3g (or something like it) for Android. It was very useful on iOS and now that I use Android full time it is one thing I miss. I assume the reason something like this is not as popular on Android yet is in the past it has not been as necessary or useful as it is on a jailbroken iPhone.
Personally, I would pay good money for an Android app to provide this option.

AIM for Windows Mobile.

Who's tried this? I think it just became available recently. A friend of mine told me about it and he liked it, so he told me. Cause we're both trying to find an instant messenger program that works good for AIM.
Here..
http://beta.aol.com/projects.php?project=aimwinmobile&loc=2
I think it f'ed up my phone. I uninstalled it and now the phone crashes every 20 minutes and needs a hard reboot. The app was cool though
I don't see how it can **** your phone up, lol. But yeah, it's probably the best AIM app i've used so far.
is it better than JiveTalk? because that is the best one i've used, i haven't tried this new AIM one though

Yes, I think so. I used JiveTalk too. Just before I tried this new AIM.
it seems really slow to me. and my buddies aren't alphabetical. i guess i'll stay with JiveTalk.
What? Your buddies appear in the order you add them in. That's how AIM is.
i know it is. i haven't used AIM in years, the ads, spyware, near impossible uninstalls have left me using 3rd party clients. every single 3rd party client i have used organizes your buddies alphabetically. AIM still lacks this feature. i love it, i know where all my friends are and where to find them no matter who is online.
and i don't know how exactly AIM work, on my phone it had my friend that i added in december listed first, over people i've had on there for years. i personally think it is just random, or is in order by signup date.
actually, if you right click on a buddy group, you can organize groups alphebetically
when did they add that? i've been trying to do that for years and never found an option.
hi
well i havent tried the AIM beta version. But I did run into this, PALRINGO,vocal IM for mobile phones...Has anyone used this. It says its also free, is it, because i dont have no text plan nor internet plan, the only thing thats connecting me to the internet is thru WiFi
TIA
palringo is good. uses data, unless you connect to wifi before running the program.
i prefer jivetalk over palringo, but palringo allows you to send pictures.
Palringo isn't bad. It disconnects ALOT though, which I hate. That was the MAIN reason I stopped using it. Other than that, there's really nothing wrong with it. I liked Jivetalk better than that though.
always connected program
so is there any program to stay connected to your wifi all day long???because i hate when my phone goes on standby the wifi turns off with it. I know it takes up battery but it will be okie... i want to stay logged into my parlingo acount all the time!
adding to my comment above.. Is there a IM program that can have an 'always on presence'???thanks guys!
I have used slick by Lonely Cat Games
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick
It works great with maybe an error here or there. I did have issues using it with a UI program.. I think it was UL
beta 3 is out
Try Jive talk or Palringo. work well.

Issues installing Epocrates

I'm on CM5.0.3 but is anyone having trouble running Epocrates?
I install it, I open, and it says "Loading..." with that circle thing FOREVER.
works fine for me. try getting it started on a good wireless signal, not OTA
Hey guys does epocrates on android require you to have some sort of data connection? or can I use it "offline" like the good old days with windows mobile? I want to be able to search drug, interaction.... without any sort of data connection is that possible? I mean like Pill ID probably will need it but what about other things.
I am having the same issue. It just sits on Loading...
The phone is connected to wifi but just won't load.
uninstall, reinstall. i just put it on today, and had no problems. using 3g now, and it loads right up.
Same Issue
I have the same issue as previously stated.
Epocrates simply will not load. I am using Cyanogen 5.0.3 and wonder if it could possibly be a factor?
I tried Epocrates through 3G, through Wifi to no avail, uninstalling and installing again.
Installs fine on my stock N1. Works over wifi but never tried it on 3g.
I got the same problem so I uninstall it.
Hmm.. Installed epocrates yesterday when my nexus was stock and it worked fine. Unlocked/rooted today, running CM 5.03, have the loading problem.
Does anybody have it running w/ the CM 5.0.3 also in place? Bummer that we traded the rooting for the functionality of Epocrates. Maybe there is a workaround? Or a new version or update will be compatible?

First time you use it you need a connection to sign into or set up an account but it works fine in airplane mode after that.
I just tried on 5.0.3.1 using the .32 kernal, didn't work for me, loading... loading... loading...
Works fine on a stock N1. Anyone know when paid versions of epocrates (Epocrates Essentials) will be released?

Looks like this is a common problem with CM5.0.3.1, as i have this issue as well....
There's got to be a way around it, I gotsta get me some epocrates!!!
if you're a pharmacist I wouldn't pay for this. Epocrates doesn't warranty their info (according to the free iPhone version's disclaimer) I'd much prefer paying for Lexi-comp or clinical pharmacology or uptodate. That way if you get sued, those are actual trusted sources. Epocrates isn't and should only be used as quick reference or knowledgjust my .02
but I would luuuve to get it working on 5.0.3 since all I have now is skyscape and epocrates info is a bit more complete than that.

if u are relying on your phone to be a physician, i feel sorry for you and your patients. epocrates is a guide, not a rule.
medicine requires more than opening an app on your phone. people are not something to be plugged in
who said anything about relying on my phone? believe it our not, health care professionals don't memorize everything and doses and interactions will need to be looked up. having this on your phone is a huge plus. just letting people know not to fully trust epocrates for that and I suggested some alternatives since people were expressing interest in purchasing the fuller version.
Maybe we will be able to run the alpha version when it's released.
Why don't you use Merck Medicus. It'S free, you have also a drug db, but also an Harrison Practise, Merck Manual, a guide to diagnostic tests, and Reuters Medical News. This app is great!!!

Do any of the tethering apps work yet?

I'm picking up my phone tomorrow. I was wondering if any of the tethering apps work with or without root on this phone yet. I know the more popular one requires a kernel with netiptables enabled. I'm not sure if the default kernel supports this or not.

I'm sure PDAnet works or you can just change the APN settings to use native hotspots without getting charged.
"native hotspots".... as in.... anywhere a 3G connection is available?

Like the built in tethering option and yeah pretty much anywhere you can get a data connection.
I got the Barnacle Wifi tether working without much challenge thanks to the Devs in the other threads. Could not install it from the AppBrain market but was able to follow the links to download the APK and install it from the internal sd card. Tried to get the widget to donate too,but could not do so from the market place.

Me either, this is my first Android phone. I did a search for wifi hotspot in the AppBrain market and it came up. My limited test with it was good. Used the APN setup from other threads and rooted the phone, also described elsewhere. Then downloaded the APK and installed it. A fairly straight forward process.
Problem with PDANet is the huge cost when I'd only really use the feature when traveling. How is barnacle wifi? Does it support encryption?
I am using a basic WEP key, not sure what you want out of the encryption. Better to check developers web site, I know there are some challenges but it is a little out of my league without spending a long time reading about it.
Well WEP/WPA/WPA2 type of encryption so someone doesn't steal my limited data. Does it support WPA/2 by the way? WEP is pretty easily cracked these days, but it is better than nothing at all.

[Q] Communication Apps Out of Country?

First off I'd like to apologize if this question is int he wrong section I figured it was an Android general question and didn't know where else to post it.
So a few friends and I will be going to Canada for Spring Break, and one issue that we know might come up is if we all get lost we don't think our phones will work due to being out of the country. Does anybody know if there are any messaging apps or any app in general that will allow us to communicate easily and efficiently while there? Bonus if there is an app you guys know of that is on the iPhone market as well since at least two of my friends have one. Thanks in advance!
use heywire app which is a sms app which works over wi-fi or 3g, you can send text through out the world for free, ive been out of the state for a while, and it helps to stay in touch, you can download it from the market, when u install the app it will guide u through registration which includes only providing your email add and u r done, hope it helps.

Grooveshark work around

Has anyone been able to find a way to use the Grooveshark desktop site without getting the "problem loading flash" error? I have read having flash 10.2 installed and using the Dolphin browser set to desktop user agent would work, but so far have had no luck on my Xoom or D1 without getting the error message. Also tried Skyfire and the stock browser with the about:debug trick, no dice. Anyone had any better luck, or other solutions that worked?
Have you tried TinyShark on the market?
Yeah that's what I have been using lately, but I would like to be able to load my playlists and everything from the grooveshark desktop site.
Am i missing something? Why not use the Grooveshark app in the market?

Oh ok, makes sense. I forgot i'm subscribed already.
Tinyshark lets you load your playlists too. The only benefit to the Grooveshark player is the offline cache ability. I tried it for a month and Tinyshark fit my needs just fine without paying $9 a month. When it was $3 a month it may have been worth it but triple the price and I'm out.
I think everyone that has replied has missed the point, I also am wondering if there has been a work around or if anyone is working on it, I think that with a tablet, we should be able to hit the real site and have flash work, why would we need to pay for an app or get an app that is made for small phones when we should be able to just go to the website.
I wish I was smarter with these dev things and I could work on it but I dont have the time to learn.
Hopefully someone that is reads this and wants the same thing, I love gooveshark but being that it is free from my desktop, I am not really wanting to pay for an app....
just my just my .02, thanks
Good luck man, I am hoping the update to the flash player will maybe work, but aside that I have had no luck in getting the desktop site to work on the Xoom and just started using the TinyShark app in the market. Not nearly as nice, but I will take what I can get until someone figures this out.
Flash also reports the client platform/OS, independent of the browser user agent, when connecting to a streaming server. I don't use Grooveshark, so I don't know if this is the reason you get the error, but it's a strong possibility.
Some people have had success with opening a file in Flash (first honeycomb release) in a hex editor and replacing the string "AND" (Android) with "WIN" (Windows). There were also some high jinks to get the change to persist, but a modified APK was made available that seemed to work for some users to access Hulu. I haven't followed it lately, but you could probably find more info searching for "flash for hulu".
EDIT: Here's the link: [MOD] Flash 10.2 Working HULU Updated: 4/29/11
Best case scenario is that someone has put out a modded APK for the current Flash release that also works with Grooveshark. If not, there might be another, less elegant solution.
I'm still debating on which tablet to buy xoom, asus or wait for newer models.
Does the GS app work on the honeycomb? Atrix users was complaining on their forums so that's why I'm asking
