Who's tried this? I think it just became available recently. A friend of mine told me about it and he liked it, so he told me. Cause we're both trying to find an instant messenger program that works good for AIM.
Here..
http://beta.aol.com/projects.php?project=aimwinmobile&loc=2
I think it f'ed up my phone. I uninstalled it and now the phone crashes every 20 minutes and needs a hard reboot. The app was cool though
I don't see how it can **** your phone up, lol. But yeah, it's probably the best AIM app i've used so far.
is it better than JiveTalk? because that is the best one i've used, i haven't tried this new AIM one though

Yes, I think so. I used JiveTalk too. Just before I tried this new AIM.
it seems really slow to me. and my buddies aren't alphabetical. i guess i'll stay with JiveTalk.
What? Your buddies appear in the order you add them in. That's how AIM is.
i know it is. i haven't used AIM in years, the ads, spyware, near impossible uninstalls have left me using 3rd party clients. every single 3rd party client i have used organizes your buddies alphabetically. AIM still lacks this feature. i love it, i know where all my friends are and where to find them no matter who is online.
and i don't know how exactly AIM work, on my phone it had my friend that i added in december listed first, over people i've had on there for years. i personally think it is just random, or is in order by signup date.
actually, if you right click on a buddy group, you can organize groups alphebetically
when did they add that? i've been trying to do that for years and never found an option.
hi
well i havent tried the AIM beta version. But I did run into this, PALRINGO,vocal IM for mobile phones...Has anyone used this. It says its also free, is it, because i dont have no text plan nor internet plan, the only thing thats connecting me to the internet is thru WiFi
TIA
palringo is good. uses data, unless you connect to wifi before running the program.
i prefer jivetalk over palringo, but palringo allows you to send pictures.
Palringo isn't bad. It disconnects ALOT though, which I hate. That was the MAIN reason I stopped using it. Other than that, there's really nothing wrong with it. I liked Jivetalk better than that though.
always connected program
so is there any program to stay connected to your wifi all day long???because i hate when my phone goes on standby the wifi turns off with it. I know it takes up battery but it will be okie... i want to stay logged into my parlingo acount all the time!
adding to my comment above.. Is there a IM program that can have an 'always on presence'???thanks guys!
I have used slick by Lonely Cat Games
http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=slick
It works great with maybe an error here or there. I did have issues using it with a UI program.. I think it was UL
beta 3 is out
Try Jive talk or Palringo. work well.

Even if the cab was released, I'm pretty sure it checks your phone number anyway, considering the way the browser works is completely server side.
Here is your cab and all I did was use the search function... You should try it!!!! 10th tab from the left and 3rd from the right!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378549
As mentioned above, you need to be registered for the beta and they are the ones that allow you to use it.
i'm near fed up with the skyfire beta.
i signed up January 28 (day ONE!) at about 3pm, and still have not receieved an invitation to the beta. They claim to be going first-come, first-serve, but if that's the case, a hell-of-a-lot of people signed up within hours of hearing about it.
They just sent me an update email, saying they'll try to get everyone in Beta 1 by the end of April.
Also, I see no reason to be fed up, considering they're providing you this service. They don't actually owe you anything, let's remember.

ummmm...... yea what he say
he really does have a point tho
Ive had the software for a little over 2 weeks now and unfortunetely im extremely unimpressed. The software is incredibly slow on my mogul. The only plus side I have to using this software is to watch you tube videos which Core Player already does in a much easier to usse interface. I'll get back to it once Beta 2 rolls around.
i also signed up on the first day and just got invited to use it a few days ago. i wouldn't worry too much, as mentioned before its really not that good. picture this... remote desktop on someone elses server, with sound, thats it. Its no opera mini, but its coming along slowly. Honestly its really not worth waiting for until version 1.0, and their on .5 still.
I got my invite about a week ago. And btw, i am from Finland. So they now allow non-us people too.
I love it. It's slow to browse but:
- Internet map-services work! A local one has sharper satellite pictures
- I can wach CNETTV.com! Picture isnt that good but audio comes always clear. (it also saves the zoom location on bookmarks. So i just click the bookmark and watch)
- Internet radio stations work! The ones that are flash. (like http://www.finetune.com/wii/ )
- I noticed that it also has atleast .wmv plugin installed on the server-side. So you can play direct-video links too.
I've had it for about 2 weeks, and I think it definitely will be the best browser when all the bugs are worked out. It can render basically any page on the internet perfectly. If you go to Youtube, for instance, it looks as if you went there in IE or Firefox on your regular computer. All of the flash stuff works. Google maps? Yes, you can use street view mode, and it's pretty snappy too.
It has two modes for touch input, which I will call cursor mode and hand mode (that's what the icons look like). This way, you can decide if you want to pan the entire webpage with hand mode or if you want to interact directly with a zoomed in flash applet with the cursor mode.
I signed up for the beta a few months back.

Over at this 31 page thread, you can gauge your sign up times with other users, and guess where you are on the list. Skyfire is just going in order of people who signed up, and it looks like they are still sending out invites to people who signed up on the first day still, jan 28th!

yes i have it and you cant get it ...j/k.....its a good browser but I have some reservations..one security....logging into sites that require passwds is not recommeneded with the browser as it is not secure....and the whole video thing is cool but its like logging into my pc using logmein and watching video...choppy....but I think the will improve on it...my 2 cents

Hi all, looking for a good all in one IM app for the HD2.
I have been using in the past
Palringo
Nimbuzz
Live Messenger
All are pretty riddled with bugs and not meant for touch screen, any ideas?.
Mainly for MSN and Facebook.
I like Beejive
what kind of bug are you experiencing with palringo? The only thing I hate about palringo is how it downloads some update and always fail to load it. But other than that, it's probably the most reliable one I've use and far, far less memory hungry as the other IM programs.
A few issues with palringo being it keeps disconnecting, the interface is rather poor, and it does not update contacts properly, but your right it seems to be the best around so far.
I love the nimbuzz interface on the nokia 5800, but the wm version sucks.
I will give this programe a go thanks, although it does not do facebook
I prefer Pigeon. It's the best fingerfreindly and nice looking im ive ever seen. But sometimes it causes a crash on the unlock screen. Im pretty sure its the app causing the crash when its displayed and you lock screen. so before you lock the screen you better press the home button first
I don't like the fact that most new messengers use their proxy server. Which means you simply give all your passwords to third party.
So I use rather old-school, but working, IM-plus.
also a big fan of nimbuzz, the only real problem is you have to use the scroll bar rather than flicking your thumb. I just tried out Beejive, i like it but its missing facebook chat.
Beejive just crashes constantly, so thats a no go
I am using Palringo and I am really happy with it. It supports all the IMs I need and I did not notice any problems. Worked well on my Omnia, works perfect on my HD2.
hi,
i use im+, you have to pay for it, but its worth it's money. supporting lots of protocols an working smooth on advantage and hd2.
mad.
Tried IM+ Its pretty good, but i like to view online contacts all at once, this just sits on the all accounts screen, annoying.
I think i will have to stick with palringo for now.

hi, just play around with the 'show groups' an 'show account' (i dont know how they called in english version of the prog., but the manual ist your friend ) settings, its easy to configure it the way you want. i think both of is what you want.
mad
i tried
palringo (free not bad look gd but cannot save history unless u pay $$ to them)
ebuddy (it using jblend, dont create own icon)
im+ (nt bad, but i dont display the default user profile name)
I have a question to all HD2 TMOUS owners.
It's been stated on the HTC web site that this version of phone will have Google Talk™ software. Can anybody confirm that this is true. And the second thing I would like to know if this software works similar like on Nokia N900. I have friend of mine who has N900 and we just checked that Nokia IM soft can use front cam and you can make a video call. So attractive feature. I was calling him from my home pc via GTalk web, he was using his mobile phone on WIFI and I could see him. Can we perform that on HD2 as well?

And I think it uses your SMS quota, so sucks if you don't have a plan.
And the application is horrible. I started it, and the status of the people on my list never changed, I never got IMs unless I initiated them myself, and it seemed like the application would never reboot itself, even with a cold reboot of the phone. So it always said I had 2 conversations going and the people were offline, when they were clearly online on my PC. So far I've been pretty unimpressed with the software on the HD2 and have called TMobile about returning the phone. It's such a shame too, its a damn sexy phone and so fast... I'd just rather have android.

I'm with you on this one, but don't have an equivalent android phone to upgrade to. I don't want what t-mobile considers to be the top of the line, and I can't afford the nexus one.
All I need is fully functioning GMAIL and GTALK and windows mobile can't supply either out the box. I don't want to have to pay for apps to do something everyone else gets for free. I'd be happy with GTALK if it just told me when I get an IM. That's right, I don't get any notifications from it at all . If I'm on the phone I'll hear a beep but don't get anything on the status bar. I looked at it today and noticed I had 2 new chats that I missed. And don't even attempt to switch between 2 chat windows...the first window is never selectable

I don't know what you're talking about, I use GTalk all the time and have never had any issues with contacts updating and conversations work flawlessly inbound and outbound.
I'm looking for the best AIM messenger for my EVO. I don't mind whether or not it is free or if I have to pay. I just want a good one. I tried out eBuddy or whatever it was called, but I didn't really care for it. I'm thinking about Beejive but I don't wanna pay and end up hating it. So what do you suggest?

i use ebuddy, works very well for me.
eBuddy is great. Has all the IMs you need all in one.
I tried all the combo messengers and liked eBuddy over all the rest. Nimbuzz was a not-so-close 2nd.
The only problem I have with eBuddy is it kills the battery, but I haven't tried since I started flashing custom ROMs and kernels.
I tried both eBuddy and Beejive and I happy with Beejive, mostly because of the push notifications. Battery usage with Beejive is much better than eBuddy imho. Did you try the Beejive trial?

Trying now, thanks.
EDIT: Wow, really liking Beejive. It seems close to perfect (better than eBuddy). Handles all my accounts seamlessly and supports Google Push to conserve battery life. Awesome!
Trillian, hands down. Cross-platform, and web interface.
The thing I didn't like about eBuddy was the fact that the buddy list didn't show my mobile contacts since like a majority of my friends are mobile. I haven't tried Beejive trial yet. I'll get on that right now.
Edit: So far I like Beejive. It's pretty legit.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Beejive has always been my favorite but it's so buggy now it's almost unusable.
The latest version DOES NOT use push notifications, I had to verify that using a packet sniffer for Android.. It's not really saving any battery life at this point.
It also starts up by itself and logs you on automatically on every reboot, even if you have it set to NOT launch at startup...
Aaaand it will not always quit. Sometimes it will, but most times it will actually restart the app and change your status to available if you were invisible :/
Trillian has been great, though. Push notifications are working great, you just have to make sure it's enabled under settings (Battery saver option). It does not look as good as beejive, but trust me, it sips battery and is very reliable

Best IM application on anything.
I used to use Trillian on my computer a long time ago but have been using Digsby lately. The Trillian app looks pretty interesting. You guys have said its easy on the battery but before I pay to give it ****, how is the Meebo app?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Eh, Meebo is so-so. Tried it for a bit and wasn't impressed with its feature set. I just really love Trillian for two big reasons:
1) Same buddy list, contacts, nicknames, icons, accounts, etc. on web, my computers, and Android.
2) Push notifications for messages help save battery power.
Trillian, I don't care what anyone else says, it's the best. I've tried them all.

+1, give it a try, you won't regret it.
Trying out Trillian now. Seems really solid too. I like it better than the PC version because it integrates more natively with the OS.
My only gripe: how do I get rid of that notification bar icon?
Trillian doesn't seem to auto-start OR stay connected. I open it up and more than half the time it says "Reconnecting..."
What the dilly?
It'll auto-logout after so many hours unless you go in the settings and change that. Plus when it's in the background, the app disconnects from the service and depends on C2DM for notification of messages, and then reconnects to the service when you reopen the app.
As for the notification icon... I'unno of any way to get rid of that.
+1 for trillian, only IM app ive tried that doesnt destroy the battery life. Make sure you turn on the optional "Battery Saving Mode" on in the settings, this turns on google push. Off by default since it only works on 2.2.
(wouldn't be the FIRST time
k, just wanna say i searched the word "texts" and dint get one hit in this thread. Thinkin' THAT can't be right but here goes...
Is there a way to send texts on this or becuz its wi-fi only, OR is that an "eyeroll question"?
Other than that shortcoming, i have to say my 1st 24 hours with this thing has been nothing but great.
I was one of those "whatintheworlddoineedatabletfor" ppl and i have to say i am madly inlove with this thing. i already had bought an ASUS MT91 Touch Tablet last fall (even tho it came with Windows 7 Home Premium, not Starter) but after just a few weeks it was just too slow to use at a desk and too heavy to use as a couch potato prop.
This thing picks up where my EVO leaves off and i'm lovin' it to pieces...
But again, what about sending texts? Is this capable of that? (and don't laugh, i KNOW i must be missin' something?

Ms D
Not from your own number unless you have an android phone too.
Text using Google Voice. Eventually people will recognize your GV number as well as your normal number (or if they're clever, they'll just add it to your entry in their contacts list).
I currently use "TextPlus" from the market, it works great and it's free.
No lag in message sending or receiving that I've noticed.

.... I went ahead and bought & installed SyncMMS for 3 bucks which seems like it'd do the trick EXCEPT for the fact it keeps force-closing everytime i try to Register for a dropbox so it can "do its thing"... I sent a msg to the developer... But thanks y'all, appreciate all the replies : )
In the meantime. here's another dumm q... I know the Market Aps for Honeycomb are very limited right now, but again i MUST be doing something wrong, as i have seen so many posts here and there that say they downloaded thus and such on their Asus TF from Market and when i go there, i never find ANY. Just a handful. I read ALL apps should download but not "look right" or have a big black box around them, i'm not finding ANY apps i recognize....
Is there a way to bypass the Market and d/l straight from Internet, even if they won't look right, i wouldn't mind- i registered with App Brain but i'm not seeing it IF there is a way... : )
thanx again
If you're phone is also an Android device, try TexTab: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133277.
Otherwise, Google Voice is your friend.
I also tried SyncSMS, and I didn't like it at all. It uses Dropbox as an intermediate storage facility and sends messages between devices via WiFi. The problem with that is that you have to set polling intervals. Put them too close (5 min) and your battery life suffers. Put them too far (30 min) and the app is useless since you lose the immediacy of SMS.
TextPlus works pretty well too

I don't think you need to be rooted. Unzip the file and install the apk on both devices. You might have to check the unknown sources box in settings/applications/unknown sources. This will allow you to install the apk through file manager by clicking on it.
I'm gonna download it now and check it out.
Been testing TextTab, known bug that after tge TF sleep I loose connection to the phone. I think once wifi is implemented it will be a great app.
One good things about SyncSms, if say you're going over sea, you can leave phone on at home and bring the
TF, so long a you have internet connection you can get and send sms.

Thanks for checking all that out, i will do it too when i get home. Learned something new thanks 2 u, eventho i've rooted my phone, replaced pngs, installed ROMS, modified things in themes i didn't like, YET i never knew a reg zip file could be installed on an un-rooted phone, so THAN U!
Think i prolly won't be using the SyncSMS after the issue u described, and as for it being good overseas, thats not a plus for ME, since the liklihood of me going overseas is pretty nil. Work, home, Jack In The Box is about as broad a travelling that i do...lol
I tried SyncSMS but the lag was unacceptable...I waited 5 minutes for a text that never came through.
If that could be fixed, then it would seem to be a great app
