Got a HTC P3450 that won't respond to anything. Plug in USB, nothing. Plug in charger, nothing. Hard reset, nothing.
Throw in the bin or is resurrection possible?
Can you try to press the power + camera button together?
Do you see a bootloader screen.
If the phone still wont start , it maybe one of these issues.
- Battery totally dead
- Motherboard Issue (Which you are screwed)
- Power button issue.
Ok I tried the power + camera button together and nothing happened.
I have two batteries and neither work. I tried power + camera button together with the unit plugged into the power socket and via USB and that didn't do anything either.
So I guess it's down to a bad motherboard or a power button issue. Although if it was just a power button issue the charge light or something would come on or something yeh?
100% no power on, everything tried
I bricked my ELF01000 but Dopod 601 China by ....
shameful mistake of rebuilding the ROM without erasing the "backup" word from: -
backup_GSM.nb
backup_IPL.nb
backup_mainsplash.nb
backup_os.nb
backup_spl.nb
hence now can't even power on from
1. camera+power+reset once and hold camera+power
2. phone dial and disconnect together + reset once and hold phone dial and disconnect
3. regular reset
4. battery removed - plugged in USB
5. battery removed - plugged in adaptor from mains
6. battery inside + USB or mains
7. battery from another elf with over 70% power
8. plugged into adaptor from mains overnight 8 hours
9. all no orange light on the indicator
Even if every software code is wrong, the indicator light should be ON right???
all failed
simply won't power on,
if only can get into bootloader >>...........
Ohmy, thats bad.
Could it be like a bad motherboard or connector issue?
actually it's not my own ELF, sorry!!! misinformed you all.
It's my friend's Dopod S1.
I've surrendered my ELF HK english WWE to him as a replacement.
Currently using Asus P552w GalaxyMini2, although much faster but extremely unstable and buggy
resisting to buy a blackstone , may be will try the rumoured release of LEO ????
Anyway, still hope someone can provide some light to this "can't power on at all issue".

If you are using a genuine htc elf.
You can try the gold card and unbricking methods at the htc upgrading forum.

Get an android phone, under htc, heard that it was better.
Hi Jeremy (nice to have someone to chat with, thanks)
I believe my friend's ELF is a genuine unit, it had pof's SPL 1.11. And a Chinese guy cooked his own rom and named it Guilin2008.02.22. Plus I could dump everything using the "automated backup.bat". Device ID by dsixda also read well.
The problem now is it could not even turn on to white screen or bootloader. I though at least it must have some power response, or else gold card unbricker won't start right?
So you recommend the "android" ..... I haven't study it at all..... though keep to WM, easy WMDC with outlook each..... plus I'm itching to get a bigger screen type, like blackstone, but ouch it's not only big, but expensive too.
Say, ELF's 200Mhz sometimes feel faster than Niki's 400Mhz (my director's unit), and also faster than Blackstone's 528Mhz (my CEO's unit). I think blackstone uses too many 3D ...... if I ever get one, must replace the rom with light versions...
Anyway, learning to cook my own now, only managed to dump, but still don't understand enough to cook.... well keep reading
Hello CX5,
Thanks alot for dropping by XDA, without you, there wont be me, either.
Yeah, I feel that those devices with more processing power, HTC would usually like to cramp lots of useless animations to the device, thus taking up more space and more power and make the phone slower, so you will buy a new set soon.
Talking about your elf, I cant really help, you may have to drop by your closest service centre for a checkup. I am only more technically inclined to software issues, so hopefully, someone with technical knowledge is able to help you with this.
Android is really a good OS, I managed to install it on my ELF recently, just to give a spin on how it works. Its great, good to use and most importantly, open source.
I seen the newspaper recently, and have you heard about that famous MP3 player brand called Creative, those people originated from my hometown, Singapore. They recently lauched a new phone which comes with their own OS or Google Android, and it cost around $120 USD for Telecoms to buy and rebrand themselves.
I clearly see Android being the next OS, and on top of that, Microsoft's Office is teaming up with Nokia, to install Microsoft Office Mobile onto Nokia Symbian phones.
With that,
I wish you all the best for your phone ( A New one, probably )
Jeremy
Thanks again Jeremy
yeah, my friend's send the wrongly_flash ELF to a hwardware repair, let you know outcome later.
say, just realized Iolite is 528Mhz, I'm able to get it at RMB 1.8k ~ USD225, was my favorite choice before laying eyes on Blackstone.
hmmmmmm. android good on ELF eh............
ok, study study study...................
Hahaha, you are from China?
I have so many China friends at my country in Singapore.
They do so well in maths and chinese, good talent!
--
To be frank with you, just choose a phone you like, and suit your budget and get it. Its too hard catching what is new as there is something new everyday.
Even for myself, im studying too. So ya, money is quite hard to come sometimes.
Iolite sound great, Blackstone is better.
Blackstone has so many apps available, and they have more support in their community there.
Have you checked out the android phones, htc magic and htc dream?
They are quite cool.
Best Of Luck in Studies,
Jeremy
Hi again
Actually I'm Malaysian, working in HK, often visit to factory in China, while my main customers in Taiwan, finally with little visit to customers in Japan.
Anyway, I still like the Iolite design, but screen is not big enough , while blackstones screen is big and nice, but complaining it can't fit into pocket comfortable. Anyway......
I haven't got a chance to study the android, magic or dream. Too busy working. But will someday.
Yes, best of luck to studies.
Oh, all the best for your dream phone!

I Love It !!!
Hey .. thank you for the links !!
I totally love this UMPC.. this is the best device ever released yet ... I have to wait about 6months to have it .. but I want it as soon as possible.
It will be so nice using a big WinMobile screen (better than the small 320x240 on a 2"8 screen). Vista is a so nice OS... I will have my 2 favourites OS on the same device.. I can't believe it !
HTC has put everything needed in the device. The review is nice.. but they should have introduced origami 2.0 ... not just showing the start animation.
If someone want to offer one ... I take it !
Unless they have sorted out the 2 hour battery life, it will remain a gimmick and no buyer will be satisfied with the purchase
I was really into the shift until I spent about three hours with a Fujitsu Lifebook P1620 today. 9" touch-screen convertible, 1.2ghz dual core, 100mb hard drive, vista or tablet xp, PC card slot (hello cheap wireless 3g card), VGA out, fingerprint reader, 3 USB ports, bluetooth, wlan, touchscreen works great for writing/browsing (it is passive digitizer though), you can touch type on it with some practice, and over 5 hour battery life My 2008 budget comes in next week and I am absolutely buying one.
Making calls with shift seems like it will require a hack, no simple soft-reset for the crippled wm6, embarrasing battery life, 5 minute cold-boot time for vista, etc. Why pay nearly $2k for a gimmicky device that in the end doesn't really do what a phone or a laptop can do. We all have a phone anyway...who wants to carry that monster to the pub just so you don't miss a phone call??
Well. I got mine 24 hours ago and I like it. Keyboard is nice. I cand write using my 10 fingers after some training. Battery life isnt bad and if I need more live I ve a power bank that gives me 7 hours more. wifi, hsdpa and bt works very well. It moves Vista nicely. I ve installed my development tools (Visual Studio 2008, eclipse and jboss) and work nice. VGA output letme use hi res at home with a lcd screen. I wasnt very convinced when I bought it but by now I am very satisfied

well .. you are wrong on many things ! ouch ....
1°) making calls is still not sure that it will require a hack ... you can see french sites telling that it is a COMPLETE PHONE... so I think that it could depends on the country you buy it.... we'll see !
2°) for WM6 there are ability to soft-reset it .... because it will be A REAL WM6.. even if they talk about "Snap-Vue" it IS WM6.... what they put upon will never be enough to change it in another OS... it is running WM6 !
3°) embrassaing battery life ? if you are using WinMobile .. you will have about 1 week of battery life.... it's enough ! Vista is so greedy that you should never think about using it without a power supply.
4°) 5 minutes cold-boot time ... oh my god ! .. you are completely wrong !!!!!! it is faster than that .. it is about a minute ... not more than 2 minutes ! And with Vista SP1 it is the same time for hibernate boot ! (hibernate was not good with preview Shifts... because of Vista.. but Vista SP1 is a little better). On the video : vista starts at 6:36 and is running at 7:40 ... 1:04 for resuming from hibernate !
5°) The device is more about 1200$ .. than 2k$ ..
If you don't know anything about the real shift spec.... I understand why unuseful 9" laptop seems interesting for you !

nice !! have you tried installing winmobile application sending a cab by mail ? just to be sure that we will be able to install everything we need .
is there any way to shutdown both (winmobile and vista) ? Something about voice calls?
My main concern is if I'll be able to run full version of WM and access files on hard drive or SD card and work with them. If yes, I'm in! Anyone has been able to hack it so far?
No luck sending the cab because you can save it to disk (outlook doesnt want to execute it because It says is unsafe). But after saving it I dont know how to execute it....
I havent tried phone calls. well, I dont know how. Vista can be turned off, of course. But you can turn off windows mobile. Even I dont know how to reset it (except remove one second the battery). But I am sure we will solve all this issues.
Dani
once saved to disk, press CTRL while tap and holding on the clock. Select run
type FEXPLORE or FEXPLORER (don't remember)
Launch your cab.

CTRL while tap and holding on the clock ?? Seems to be a pretty good hack !
danielherrero .. plz confirm that it works
1. YOu prove my point. phone functions are NOT widely available, if at all. I am glad you red something on a frech website, but I have actually held and used one of these and it did NOT make phone calls out of the box. Yeah, we can hack to do that if bought in a non-voice approved area, and get no support/possibly void the warranty. nice.
2. show me a soft reset hole, cause the one I played with didn't have one. THere is another thread in this forum from a guy who has to take the battery out of the shift he actually has in his hands to soft-reset. Your syllogistic argument is silly.
3. battery life of one week when using the phone...which I already carry one of, if you want to use the pc part of it the battery life is miserable so what's the point of having it there when it must be tethered to a wall wort at all times.
4. Watch the unboxing vids, this thing takes ages to cold boot vista, which i what i was talking about, not the hibernate resume you are quoting. also, the one I used for several hours took about 4.5 minutes to load vista. Desktop PC's fully specced have trouble loading vista in one minute my freind. IF that has been solved on newer releases I would like to hear someone who is holding one right now say that. Thanks for the tip to "never use vista without a power supply" now please continue to prove my point about the pc function of this thing being a joke by telling me how the shift can't be downgraded to xp....
5. The cheapest I have ever seen advertised for the shift is on the edge of $1700 US. Where are you seeing them for $1200?? I have seen them for 1200 EUROS, which is about $1680 US. Note that euros and us dollars are worth a different amount.
I'm not trying to bash the shift. Nor do I want some kind of flame war with you. I am reporting my experiences on actually having used both of these devices. I am sure that for some people the shift fills the little niche that they need. My point was that for me, and I would venture that for a lot of business users, the shift has a lot of shortcomings and is not the right device.
Your post makes me pretty sure that you have never ever actually used either of these devices, so you shouldn't tell people that they don't know anything about something you are even less informed about. If someone who owns one of these and is using it now wants take issues with my statements, I am very ready to listen. Perhaps the models they have are better than the one I used, if so I'd love to hear about it...from people who have one in thier hands!

It was working on a previous ROM. I am talking about the CTRL key from the physical keyboard. Try from the mail app for example. If it's not the clock, it's the battery icon.
As a side note, did you get the unit as a reviewer, or did you actually bought it from somewhere where anybody else can?

I have used the shift for about half an hour on a demo day (Microsoft Unified Communication launch). But I have not bought it yet.
1. yeah .. but I hope for a hack (without a warranty void !)
2. it seems that there are no soft-reset hole..but I'm sure that we will be able to soft reset with a program without having to have full WM6
3. battery life on my laptop is half an hour.. so the shift is more than what I'm used to ... maybe this is why I'm not worried about. and if you have read my scenario (few threads before) you would see that the Shift is not on a battery life that much in Vista mode.
4. I have watch the unboxed videos and read many reviews about the shift.. and what they said was always "resuming from hibernate take longer time than a cold boot" and that a cold boot take about a minute and a half to 2 minutes but these times were from the "test prototype" of the shift. And if resuming from hibernate take only a minute... you just have to use it and you should not care about the cold boot time ! (I'm on vista on my desktop and always use hibernation mode ... and it comes back in less than 30 seconds .. and from sleep in less than 2 seconds... but it's a faster computer than the shift).
5. I have read a lot about $1200 announced before the official released ... but maybe the price is a higher .. the iphone is 1000€ and I think that it is less than $1000 ... so don't believe that the price in € is significant to the price in $ .. it used to be the same price ($1000 --> 1000€ .. even if $1000 is only 680€) but I can't say if there is shops where the shift will be under $1400.
I don't want to enter in a war with you too .. I'm just sharing my opinion that's all. I have read a lot on the shift for more than a year (like so many people) and I'm not a current owner of a shift.

.. I hope we will find out to do it ... I'm sure there is a way ! because they need to remove snapvue for the support !
I think the clue is to know how the updates will be applied. Probably It will be done using vista side. So I think there will be a way from this side to access flash chip WM6. This weekend I couldnt research about it but tomorrow I will do it because I want to install bandswitch to use gprs with direct push instead of umts to increase battery live. (althought I ve to say battery live is good so far..
Dani
ps. I bought it on shopping center in Madrid, Spain. They have it since last monday.
There is a way from vista, because the manual state you can install a certificate for the WM side from the vista control pannel. I think this is just a com port to redirect on the WM part for getting AS, but if the trick I gave you doesn't work, it's just a question of time before getting access to the OS.
Maybe you could try on you PDA to check what I'm talking about. Presse the center of your D pad instead of CTRL in this case.

Hi danielherrero, do you have any 16 GB SDHC Memeory card? if so can you let us know whether it works fine with the Shift, thanks !
Hi all,
I have a 8125 (Wizard) that I bought used with a broken LCD - I replaced the LCD with hopes of having a functional phone, but I'm not quite there...
It WAS working as a nice little PDA for a while, with the newest Cingular ROM (2.25 I believe). HOwever, I received absolutely NO signal on the radio - the little animation just constantly went like it was forever searching.
So, in my newfound expertise in flashing HTC devices, I decided to flash this to a different ROM. First, I tried the one they call Button 1.05. No bones - it'd drop connection before even going to the tri-color.
Next, I tried the SlimEdition 2.2b of WM6 (I wanted to put WM6 on it anyway, and with this old of a phone, I'm keeping away from excessive gadgets). Same deal as the Button 1.05.
On to the Faria WM6 I found in another forum. This one didn't even find my phone.
Before suggesting I try doing the flashes more than 1 time, I did.. I've been trying to flash this thing for over a month...
Additionally (and probably part of the problem), when I connect the phone to my mini-USB (no, not HTC OEM) it establishes connection about 1/3 of the time....the rest of the time I get a "USB Device not Recognized" warning from XP - I then disconnect it and reconnect it until AS4.5 sees it.
Most recently, I tried putting the Button 1.05 on again, and actually made progress...sorta...
Once I got the RUU running, I actually got it to progress to 2% before the RUU declared a connection failure. Stuck in the RUU screen, I tried all the ROM's I have on this thing, and none get past 2%.
So, NOW, I have an 8125 that's stuck in the RUU screen. I dont know what I can try next, or what might be the problem - however, if anyone knows or has spare parts they're willing to donate to science (I can afford to pay the shipping - that's about it) then I would be most grateful. My initial thoughts are bad USB port or mainboard, but I haven't a clue where to get them.
Alternatively, if I dont hear from anyone soon with good news, I will be offereing for sale 1 hardly used LCD/Digitizer combo for what I paid for it. (approx $45 USD).
Summary (long post, eh?):
1> Can I get out of the tri-color RUU screen, or did it getting to 2% and then dying effectively brick this phone?
2> Anyone have suggestions on what to replace to prevent AS4.5 (or even Windows) from misdetecting the phone when connected via USB?
3> Anyone have parts for above-mentioned repairs/replacements? I'd be most grateful....
TIA!

Follow up - next day (yes, next day)....
Apparently, the Forum Gods were watching over me as I spewed about my flashing issues......
I tried flashing it one more time, using the Slim v2 WM6 ROM....wouldn't ya know, the sunnovabatch worked....
Dunno why or what I did differently, but I dont want anyone pounding their heads trying to find an answer for this....
(I'll still take any donor phones, though...this one is 'better', but still not 'great')
Thanks for lookin!

Can anyone confirm this? I dont want to mislead you by saying it's easy, in case it just looks easy, and really isn't.....
Also, I think I saw a thread elsewhere where someone had a bunch of the USB connectors that (s)he was selling....search here first - I'm pretty sure it'll be a better deal than you'll find on fleabay....

My son is unable to turn his tytn on, I think the battery has run down completely, as when I turn it on, I get the "smart mobilty" flash screen with the RGB data, then it turns off as if completely flat, when I plug the charger in, the led charging lighton the top of the phone does not light. At the moment I have tried removing the battery for a while to see of that "resets" it, I have also tried soft reseting but no joy yet.
Any suggestions?
Does it charge if you replace the battery and don't attempt to turn it on, just plug it straight in to the charger?
Also are you using the official charger?
Using official HTC charger (tried 2, both work ok on my TP2)
No when plugged in still no lights come on, doing a bit of research last night, It sounds like a fuse has blown? I have been quoted £46 to fix (+ £6 postage each way = £58) is it worth having it repaired?

I agree it sounds like the motherboard fuse has blown (This is usually the case if there is no Red LED lighting up). The only other possibility is that the usb charging port is damaged - but unless it received some rough treatment that is less likely perhaps.
Is it worth repairing - The Tytn was a classic in it's day, but prone to be low on internal memory and consequently can lock up and freeze - requiring soft re-setting quite frequently. Having said that it can still compete with newer phones in terms of the range of functions it can perform. If cost is an issue then I'd consider a second hand TyTn II (Kaiser), if not then take your pick of newer devices.
Having said all that, even now aTyTn for £58 is not completely unreasonable, BUT why did the fuse blow?? It is possible there are other fault(s).

Need help with my imate JasJam
Hi, I have a problem with my JasJam that I need help with. I recently upgraded my i-mate jasjam's OS from Windows Mobile 6 to 6.5. The ROM upgrade was successful and everything seemed to work. But while exploring the new features of WM 6.5, the modem connected to a 3G network or the GPS was activated, I'm not too sure(I live in the Caribbean..there are no 3G networks available here). While on the internet the phone froze, so I took out the battery to restart. When I did the phone froze after the "HTC" screen just after you trun on the phone. Can anyone help? I need help asap...thanks in advance!

Not to be picky or anything, but I posted in the wrong forum by mistake, saw "tytn" and jumped in, but thankyou for your hospitality, off now, bye!
I have an O2 atom with windows 6.1 by PDAVIET with these problems:
1) Its camera hangs when i start it either from application or button, No preview, but control buttons are there (same problem existed with original windows 5.0 rom).
2) Battery remains always full when on AC power , when seen from start>settings>system>power. But, after removing AC source, it comes at 0%immediately (and still the phone works for fairly long time but cant tell when i need to recharge it as it shuts down without any low battery warning).
Looking for any solution to save this device...or let me scrap this device until I manage to save enough money besides paying for my medical education fees to buy any other new one. Thanks to all of you here for help.

I got a disassembled HD2 from a friend, which didn't have lcd/digitizer. I took it to a shop in my country which is an expert with htc phones (called htc solutions ). they said they will test the mainboard. if it works, they would put a digitizer and an lcd.
after a week i called back and they said the mainboard wasn't working so i took it back (still disassembled, no lcd/digitizer).
i got bored while studying for exams, so i tried assembling some stuff and testing it. apparently i connected the bottom buttons, the volume buttons, in-call mic and vibrator. i can tell that because i put a battery on the pins, plugged a usb in and it vibrated!
so i tried again... worked again.
then i hold down volume buttons, connected to usb and it was recognized. i even flashed ruu while holding battery with my hands.
then it rebooted, after some time while still connected to usb, orange led went on. after some time too, green one did (it's my other hd2 battery which was charged completely). device was recognized by pc again. i ran windows mobile device center, it showed hd2, asked to register etc...
i decided to try a custom rom, and flash worked and same thing happened.
now, in order to get activesync/wmdc to connect, the phone must completely boot right?
i asked them on their fb page, they said that it didn't work with them, and the expert said it stucked on htc screen.
and since it booted with me and connected to wmdc, then it booted right?
i couldn't test sound because i must put the back cover right? and i'm not expert, even connected the stuff inside the phone without watching tutorials/asking.
they said they can add the digitizer and lcd on my responsibility, (90$) so should i go for it?
also, does android boot if not all hardware is present? i tried to execute clrcad and haret in both roms (ruu and crossbowHD2 wm6.1), but never got adb to connect. i wanted to test clk and fastboot for android, but didn't have time
Yes Windows would need be booted but perhaps the stuck HTC screen was far enough for WMDC to recognise the device.
If it did indeed reflashed fully things sound promising.
Have you tried installing MyMobiler on your PC as allows you to view HD2 screen image on notebook, needs push file to device but can't remember if any interaction is needed on HD2 but worth a try.
Can you see your device in Windows explorer & view content of phone storage ?
Personally I would be inclined to buy a pre assembled lcd/digi combo (around 30USD)or lcd & digi separately if want save a little more & test it myself & rebuild it after reading some tutorials as will save yourself some dosh ($) if things are not 100% & should be able to resell parts to recoup outlay.
Thanks for your reply.
today before going to exams i downloaded and installed my mobiler and booted it. after connecting usb, (still on wm6,1 due to that ruu has install restriction policies for security, and wants me to confirm installation and launch of exe's afaik) my mobiler started installing on the phone automatically. and it showed the screen!
i saw that there was no sim card (cuz there was not) and pressed cancel in winmo, i got to home screen. so it works right? there's no way that pc could control the hd2 and get to homescreen if the screen is stuck on htc logo.
edit: i forgot, yes, i could browse nand or sdcard if connected from windows explorer. it seems very normal
oh, and i'm not gonna try to flash HSPL it's already flashed cz custom rom worked, and not safe at all since i have to keep holding battery with my hands for it to stay on )
Sounds good so far. Due to fact your HTC specialists don't appear to be too special I would recommend commencing with repair yourself.
Rebuilding the device with a pre built lcd/digi assembly is very easy & almost foolproof if you use this forum & research tutorials & do the job right & with a lot of care.
You will save a serious amount of cash & have the knowledge & feeling of achievement of doing the repair work yourself.
well, i can't find any digitizer or lcd replacemet in my country and can't order them, the reason i went to htc specialists.
but i'm not that sure i will come to them. if android boots fine, i might use ubuntu or make something with it
link below ship to Lebanon if you could get around ordering or have someone do it on your behalf.

well, i may know someone who could order from ebay so i might do this after all. i think i'm missing the volume buttons, but the htc solutions store would give it to me at no cost. i love these guys but they're a complete rip-off.
i will see some tutorials on xda and the internet. if i find i'm capable of assembling it, i will do it
Thanks a lot for your help and your support, ( out of thanks ) :good::highfive:
make sure you order the right one, because there are 2 types of connection:
1st plug and play, 2nd with soldering. This is a piece of cake, I repaired mine recently with use of screwdriver and knife. Youtube has good tutorials "htc hd2 disassembly"

Not an issue when replace lcd/digi as a combo as they are already paired & it always best go for the plug/socket connector type. LCD to mainboard ribbon is same on them all.
not an issue actually because i got the button board's cable cut accidently (i feel so ashamed) and 90% i'm gonna leave it for spare parts for the working leo i have
Button board is only 3 to 4USD at the most & could probably be ordered same time as screen assembly. Only really worth doing if need 2 working handsets or want sell it or something otherwise keeping as spares is worthwhile but expect first thing you will need is a working digitizer lol
