Hi, I have just received my new (to me) SPV M700 from a guy on the internet.
It was originally locked to Orange. Has been flashed a few times by previous owner and has Ausdim on it (don't know what I'm talking about as am new to this stuff). It's been unlocked and upgraded to WM6.1, also has Tom Tom and European maps.
I put my O2 sim in and turned it on. What I got was a white screen with the words HTC, also MO5, BO5, DO3 Ausdim, and a tune played, then windows 6.1 screen came up. That's it. Nothing else happens, phone doesn't work, in fact nothing works. Oh yes, a green light at the top right hand side flashes occasionally.
Also, l had three new styli shipped from Japan. Pushed the white end onto the pen and inserted it into it's appropriate place on phone. Came to get it out and the end has come off leaving the stylus in the holder inside the machine. Oh dear. Not my day is it.
Any advice would be appreciated.
I have experience of flashing psp's and using pandora batteries so the prospect of fiddling with flashing is not totally scarey to me. But I did get to know the machine first and read a lot before trying it. Don't want to rush into such stuff with this phone if there is a simpler solution.
Cheers

Hi guys,
I realise I may have upset people by posting a question before I have contributed anything to the forum.
Will be happy to do so when I have the phone up and running.
Here's a quick introduction......... if that's the protocol.
Am a retired aged person who loves tinkering with new technology. Was first introduced to computers with the Sinclair ZX81 which had 1k of ram, yes 1k!
I even got a 16k rampak for the back. Such wonderful technology, I also had a fiddle with machine code programming.
Then I got a Commodore 64, more fun. Later on, I got a Psion, again more programming and compiling fun. Then laterley I have a couple of pc's and a laptop. Also got recently a psp and liked it so much that I bought another one with custom firmeware on it. Have had lots of fun upgrading and such.
Just got a garmin for the car too for when we go off to France for a few months with caravan.
Just a quick introduction as to who I am. Have had a look at some of the posts and I have lots to learn. Thanks for making it happen to a golden oldie.
Cheers

Hmmm....I feel for you. My Trinity has the original wm5 rom, when I boot it up it starts with the white HTC screen you described but then kicks into windows. I doesn't sound good!
As for contributing first...don't stress about it. We all have to start somewhere
Thanks for the reply, the chap who sold me the phone is going to ring me tomorrow to see if he can sort it out.
My sim is a non 3g, is it possible that this could be the problem?
If it's something so simple I should be lucky.
I was really excited about getting the phone - a bit of a bummer that it isn't working.
Cheers
Lyv
I don't think it is the sim! Does the device boot without the sim? If not then it something deeper!
No, it is exactly the same with no sim in. Oh dear.
Perhaps it can be remedied by re flashing ??? The guy who previously flashed it may have the solution.
Cheers

Before thinking about reflashing, try Hard Resetting. Be warned: you will lose all data on your phone! ...but it could be a solution for your problem.
Thanks for the advice, will speak to the guy I bought it off tomorrow evening and if we don't get anywhere consider the hard reboot. (under guidance).
Regards
Lyv
Sorry.
It was my phone you bought so hello again! It's very strange that it's not getting past the Windows 6.1 splash screen even without a SIM as it was booting fine when I sent it and if it isn't getting past their even with the SIM removed then it may be something more intrinsic although I don't know what.
Hard reset the phone by pressing and holding both the soft keys and then using the stylus to reset the phone and follow the prompts, it will erase TomTom but you have all the back ups to reinstall that and I'll ring you and talk you through the process.
If the hard reset doesn't work then I'll shove a Mini SD to SD card converter in the post to you and walk you through flashing a new ROM from the memory card and if that doesn't fix it then I'm stumped and I'll give you a refund, but I'm sure it won't come to that.
Sorry for all the hassle!
Mike
Or if you're still awake feel free to ring me (don't mind returning the call to save your phone bill) and I'll try and talk you through everything now as I'll be up for an hour or two yet, you should have my phone number in the PM I sent you on YD.
Thanks for the reply Mike, would have been tucked up in bed when you posted so will speak with you tonight. Give me a bell on my landline, notified on yd site pm. I could ask a silly question.......did you load WM6.1?
Cheers
Lyv
Oh dear, all our efforts failed Looks like it's dead. Could have been dropped in transit, thank goodness for insurance.
Will have to look for another phone now.

not even flashing the firmware again helped ?
Soft and hard resetting does nothing. I tried connecting the device up to my pc with the usb cable but xp didn't have the drivers so can't access via that method.
Thanks for the reply anyway.
Lyv
You need to download and install Active Sync (at least version 4) before Windows XP will recognise the phone.
Get it here
Thanks IK, will download and try again. I was on an older version of activesync from when I used to use the IPAQ.
Cheers
Lyv
Upgraded my activesync to 4.5 and connected trinity. xp detected that a usb device had been added and activesync attempted to connect. At the end it gave up with a message that the connection to the windows mobile device couldn't be made.
The device itself had the red light at the top to show that it was taking power from the usb and the wm6.1 splash screen is still showing.
No joy, must be dead.
Thanks for help

I shall be writing a long, complaining letter to Royal Mail
From what the OP has said it sounds like the phone's reset button isn't working at all as she can't get the phone to enter bootloader or hard/soft reset the phone and the only way to power it down is to remove the battery so it sounds well and truly bricked.
I'll have a play when it gets sent back to me and may ask you guys for some help sorting it but I'm not hopeful.
Hi Mike,
Money arrived in Bank account. I've posted your phone etc back to you today, special delivery, so you should get it tomorrow or Saturday at the latest.
Hope you get some joy from PO.

Still looking for a phone ...... ah hum, am even thinking of the mda vario II
Got a new phone on the way now - it's an xda trion. Yes, I know, not one of yours.
However, I'm sure I will get loads of fun out of it.
Over to the Hermes sub forum for me.

I know this is a strange request but I need to deliver my phone for repair because of HW issues and since it seems way to hard to recreate the original operator image from the dump, I thought that if I could get the phone into a situation where there is no bootloader then that should be enough.
Any ideas?
Thanx,
Eran

Wish I could but if I break it physically need to pay a fine
simple answer:
HTC doesn't take "the phone was burned" under warranty...
So instead of giving nonsense remarks, you could have said nothing instead.
Of course this is cheating, in a way, but since there are HW issues and HTC doesn't repair unless it's the original ROM on it...
Jocool: One method would be to disconnect during a ROM installation, thou i'm not sur if you can't still get it right after that.
You'd probably have to get it to the original bootloader which shouldn't be too hard and then interrupt it during a Radio flash.
Flash a radio and pull the cable about half way through...i think that should do it!

actually, i thought HTC dont cover software issues?
and if YOU damage the bootloader in the update process is that not your responsibility? as i'm pretty sure the RUU states somewhere that you update at your risk?
if i were you, just do something to fubber up the mainboard, best thing i suggest is to put something into the micro sd card slot which will basically insulate the pins such that it doesnt make contact with the memory card, that way you can get the thing changed like i did with my old charmer!

I need to get this to the operator for fixing. It is actually easy enough to return to an original HTC ROM but that won't work for me
brick your phone???
4 months ago I sent my device for repairing, but they sent it back after 3 months with a note that: "the device can not be repaired any more becasue the Flashbaustein (this is the name in German and I couldn't find the english word) is kaputt"
of course I can assure you they even didn't try to switch on the device in these 3 months... after a long discussion with the T-Mobile agent, I took my device home and tried to re-flash a new ROM on it and everything went as it should be.
be careful with the risks you might cause to yourself
i once did it with my htc wizard ... though i forgot how already ... but I think it did it through the sd card... not sure if it's possible with hermes though since I didn't try that ...
but anyway, i think I modified the first few bytes in the 512 header of the rom with random characters and copied into the sd card to flash my wizard.
Tada, killed the bootloader
I hope that you can do that with the hermes ... I did see a wiki on how to flash your hermes through your sd.
Hope this helps

Hi
Try this, i assure you that will do the trick.
Connect a USB Cableto the HTC, get a 20V AC adapter, connect a wire to the Positive and one to the negative on the AC adapter connector, connect the negative to the outside of the usb cable, and, use the positive in every other contacts, wen you see SMOKE, STOP.
I'am preaty shure that they wont get to the BootLoader
New Idea
I have an idea...
1. Get an anvil
2. Get a sledgehammer
3. Place your Hermes on top of the anvil
4. Drop the sledgehammer on it
5. Pick up the pieces
6. Glue them together
7. Polish it with a fine cloth
8. Wrap it in a fancy paper
9. Send it to wherever you were sending it in the first place
Cheers.

I believe it would be more effective with a high voltage... Just imagine pluging it directly into a high voltage power line... It would be better than fireworks
the best way is to cause an electrical fault. just connect a 12V car battery to the battery terminals of your phone. just be careful as you may kill yourself due to the high current flwoing out of the battery regardless even though its 12v.
Thanx to all that gave me ideas some practical and some not
I was able to convince my provider to replace my phone without turning it on so problem solved
I fried my blackberry by just putting it in the microwave for 15 seconds, pop and bam dead
If you wanna brick your phone, just go into clockwork recovery and format your sdcard and so a whole system wipe. That's what I did then took it to verizon and got a new Droid x.
I recently dropped my 8525 hard enough to throw battery out of phone. I reinserted battery and started phone. Though I lucked out as everything seemed to work until I couldn't make a call. During boot I get "no GSM" instead of a battery version. I have done a hard reset, but it didn't help. I going to try to install a new ROM and if needed try to flash a new radio.
Anybody else have this problem? I am afraid it is a hardware malfunction in the radio.
If I cannot get this to work (I have already bought a new phone) I will be more then willing to donate (just pay for shipping) the phone to anyone who would like to work on it or test things on it. I have one half good battery and one good battery as well. Like I said everything seems to work but the actual phone. Let me know if you want it.
meh, that is not good news my friend, hope you get it fixed!
if it is a no go however, i wouldn't mind taking it off your hands
best of luck,
tbae2
Try to reflash original or stock rom. Go with the carrier rom you are supposed to have. It might work as there have been reports to indicate this.
Hope it works for you.
Cheers...
I have recently gone through similar problems, there are numerous things that can cause the NO GSM error on post. So here is the complete solution:
1. Some hard drops can jostle the antenna connection on the board, (a dodgy way of testing if this is the issue is to give the phone a shake and a few soft resets, the NO GSM error will sometimes disappear and state your radio version). There are numerous service manuals that describe how to disassemble and reassemble your handset (read the forums). It sounds scary at first, but so does not having a working phone (be sure you are out of warranty first). You will want to get some electronic circuit board cleaner and give the area around the golden clip on the top left (back facing up) a good spray (while you are at it, why not clean out some dust scroll button detritus). Then dry and reassemble, taking care to force the antenna all the way into the clip.
2. If step one really scares you or you are still in warranty, skip straight to here. A program called mtty (i use vers 1.42 , check the forums) can be used to interrogate the board logic from the bootloader, there are numerous tasks that can be used to clear registers and check gates for errors (for lack of a better word), the wiki has a great entry on all these.
3. A reflash of the radio and maybe even the os isn't a bad idea either... although remember that the latest radio may not be the best for your area/network (READ THE FORUM on this too)
Let us know how you go with it all, and good luck
if you need any further assistance PM me.

This was my idea last night as well. Froze on bootloader. I tried to also Install new radio but also a no-go. I am now downloading a new ROM without radio to see if I can get something other then bootloader. I will keep posted.
I can take the phone apart if I need to, I will make it a last resort. I am not afraid to though as I already have a new phone.
Seeing as I still cannot figure out how to make a ROM to contribute (vista and lack of programing skills) This would be a way I can assist If it would be more useful to someone here not dismantled I would like to look into it.
Update:
The radio hardware must be bad. I cannot flash a new radio or any rom with a radio. Schap's EM6 is working fine. I am going to look into discodergenson 's suggestion of taking the phone apart.
Schematic Diagram
Hi, I have a HTC 8525, with the same problem, doesnt start phone module.. anyway, in my phone, the sim card is not detected. Anybody have schematic diagram for this model? Or any other htc model, for reference.
I think this problem can be caused by dry solder in the driver of sim card, must identify it.
Thanks in advanced

I don't think a bad SIM card connection is a problem. Without a SIM card the phone still needs a radio connection to make 911 calls.
also obviously I only have a t8 and higher, not a t6 which is needed to take phone apart. I will update when I get phone apart.
Hello,
I am new on this forum (speaking of posting) i've been reading alot on this forum.
unfortunately, not enough..
Yesterday i got a htc hd2 from my dad because he couldn't work with it.
the only problem was that if he was calling the other person heard him like being in a bathroom or so,
I tought maybe it was because of the software ( i have put android on it about 2-3 month's ago maybe a bad version)
So i decided to put another version on it..
Well everything worked fine for me , set everything up but internet wouldn't open,
So i decided to reboot the phone, but that's where it went wrong, the whole phone died , not responding on powerbutton or anything else,
So as far as i know it's bricked.
the only wat to unbrick it (i know) is by using a jtag riff box, i don't know anyone in my country (the netherlands) who have it.
Now i don't know what to do.
sell the phone as broken for parts like display etc.
of shall i buy a box myself (107 euro without connector)
What are the points of concidering besides of the money,
is it enough to buy the box + connector and then download the software, or do i need to buy licenses too?
if not it's very attracting, an maybe i can even help other people who have bricked his/hers phone
If anybody have a trustable site for me to buy one in europe also please let me know.

No, unfortunatly even that is not working,
The whole phone is not responding on anything.
i can push my powerbutton, but even no light goes on , and nothing appears on the display.
That's why i guess it's bricked (also because i am using a t-mobile sim even it is a HD2 which is sold by a hi (kpn nl) provider)
Nobody has an idea what's best to do? or does know someone in the netherlands with a box?
It would be easier to help you if you would have said what you've done to the phone.
I find it very hard to brick this phone if HSPL was on it, as there is nothing the Malgdr or CWM can do to ruin it (to my knowledge).
Try these two things:
1) Is the battery charged - sometimes that might be the problem
2) Connect the phone to your PC, and see if it recognizes it.
Let us know how it went.

Sorry, don't have a box.
But, Check the battery pins, commonly, one of these are bent, and that's why it won't boot-up.
Does it use Magldr? or cLK? (Eg, when you booted, did you see a black screen with white text, and gogogo as the last line?(magldr) or did it just boot as android(cLK).
If cLK, put your phone in charger and see if the red light turns on.
Hope this helps a bit,
Eelke
I had mine jtag here in teh US I am not sure the cost involved but he can fix it for you if you care to have it shipped here. The person that did it is a member of xda and gave me fantastic service I can send you his website if that interests you. Just PM me if you wish.

Riff?
Never heard of one. Will a repair shop not have one?
Check the battery compartment and see if any pins connecting the battery to the phone are bent in a wrong direction. If so, correct this, put battery back in, connect phone to charger / USB and try turning it on.
Okay, back since a while.
Last week i found my HD2 again, (still not working.. )
So i thought about going to fix it.
I found out it isn't the battery though.. i tried another one in my phone, still dead,
My battery in another phone.. and that works.
So now i want to buy an riff box for sure, i fond some at the internet but i don't know if i can trust those sites...
First one is : http://gsmserver.com/shop/gsm/riff_box_jtag.php
Second one is: http://www.multi-com.pl/
third one is:http://www.ipmart.com/main/
Has anyone of yours some experience with one of these three shops?
1st one would be my first choice because they have all i want to order,
2nd one is the most expensive,
3th, miss something i want, but i can make it on by my own.
So can you please help me figure this out?
Best recommendation from me and your hd2, if you want to learn, is http://www.segger.com/j-link-edu.html (it no need credits, +++ another $, it's tootaly open for all you want with your phone) + great revskills software !!! I am happy user with all that!!! It's not automated process like in riff box but after working with it it's very great and easy!

Hello HD2 users. i need some help from your possible experience (this might be a bit long to read, sorry)
I got a disassembled HD2 from a friend, which didn't have lcd/digitizer. I took it to a shop in my country which is an expert with htc phones (called htc solutions ). they said they will test the mainboard. if it works, they would put a digitizer and an lcd.
after a week i called back and they said the mainboard wasn't working so i took it back (still disassembled, no lcd/digitizer).
i got bored while studying for exams, so i tried assembling some stuff and testing it. apparently i connected the bottom buttons, the volume buttons, in-call mic and vibrator. i can tell that because i put a battery on the pins, plugged a usb in and it vibrated!
so i tried again... worked again.
then i hold down volume buttons, connected to usb and it was recognized. i even flashed ruu while holding battery with my hands.
then it rebooted, after some time while still connected to usb, orange led went on. after some time too, green one did (it's my other hd2 battery which was charged completely). device was recognized by pc again. i ran windows mobile device center, it showed hd2, asked to register etc...
i decided to try a custom rom, and flash worked and same thing happened.
now, in order to get activesync/wmdc to connect, the phone must completely boot right?
i asked them on their fb page, they said that it didn't work with them, and the expert said it stucked on htc screen.
and since it booted with me and connected to wmdc, then it booted right?
i couldn't test sound because i must put the back cover right? and i'm not expert, even connected the stuff inside the phone without watching tutorials/asking.
they said they can add the digitizer and lcd on my responsibility, (90$) so should i go for it?
also, does android boot if not all hardware is present? i tried to execute clrcad and haret in both roms (ruu and crossbowHD2 wm6.1), but never got adb to connect. i wanted to test clk and fastboot for android, but didn't have time
Yes Windows would need be booted but perhaps the stuck HTC screen was far enough for WMDC to recognise the device.
If it did indeed reflashed fully things sound promising.
Have you tried installing MyMobiler on your PC as allows you to view HD2 screen image on notebook, needs push file to device but can't remember if any interaction is needed on HD2 but worth a try.
Can you see your device in Windows explorer & view content of phone storage ?
Personally I would be inclined to buy a pre assembled lcd/digi combo (around 30USD)or lcd & digi separately if want save a little more & test it myself & rebuild it after reading some tutorials as will save yourself some dosh ($) if things are not 100% & should be able to resell parts to recoup outlay.
Thanks for your reply.
today before going to exams i downloaded and installed my mobiler and booted it. after connecting usb, (still on wm6,1 due to that ruu has install restriction policies for security, and wants me to confirm installation and launch of exe's afaik) my mobiler started installing on the phone automatically. and it showed the screen!
i saw that there was no sim card (cuz there was not) and pressed cancel in winmo, i got to home screen. so it works right? there's no way that pc could control the hd2 and get to homescreen if the screen is stuck on htc logo.
edit: i forgot, yes, i could browse nand or sdcard if connected from windows explorer. it seems very normal
oh, and i'm not gonna try to flash HSPL it's already flashed cz custom rom worked, and not safe at all since i have to keep holding battery with my hands for it to stay on )
Sounds good so far. Due to fact your HTC specialists don't appear to be too special I would recommend commencing with repair yourself.
Rebuilding the device with a pre built lcd/digi assembly is very easy & almost foolproof if you use this forum & research tutorials & do the job right & with a lot of care.
You will save a serious amount of cash & have the knowledge & feeling of achievement of doing the repair work yourself.
well, i can't find any digitizer or lcd replacemet in my country and can't order them, the reason i went to htc specialists.
but i'm not that sure i will come to them. if android boots fine, i might use ubuntu or make something with it

well, i may know someone who could order from ebay so i might do this after all. i think i'm missing the volume buttons, but the htc solutions store would give it to me at no cost. i love these guys but they're a complete rip-off.

Thanks a lot for your help and your support, ( out of thanks ) :good::highfive:
make sure you order the right one, because there are 2 types of connection:
1st plug and play, 2nd with soldering. This is a piece of cake, I repaired mine recently with use of screwdriver and knife. Youtube has good tutorials "htc hd2 disassembly"

1st plug and play, 2nd with soldering. This is a piece of cake, I repaired mine recently with use of screwdriver and knife. Youtube has good tutorials "htc hd2 disassembly"

Not an issue when replace lcd/digi as a combo as they are already paired & it always best go for the plug/socket connector type. LCD to mainboard ribbon is same on them all.
not an issue actually because i got the button board's cable cut accidently (i feel so ashamed) and 90% i'm gonna leave it for spare parts for the working leo i have
Button board is only 3 to 4USD at the most & could probably be ordered same time as screen assembly. Only really worth doing if need 2 working handsets or want sell it or something otherwise keeping as spares is worthwhile but expect first thing you will need is a working digitizer lol
