Issue with Wifi - Networking

Good afternoon,
I have the ZDA IIi - 02 - trying to connect to any wifi network is a nightmare - I can get it to connect locally, but when the device asks for the security key, I simply get "incorrect key" I know it's the right key as my iPhone uses the same key. Can anyone, make any suggestions please?

see if this is a simular issue

Webcrawler, please read my post above, and see if it seems like a similar issue. I use WPA to make it happen less frequently.
Most likely you connected successfully the first few times, then all of a sudden it will no longer connect until your WIFI router is rebooted.

Wifi looses WEP key

Hi. This happened to me twice on my Dopod 900 so I'm guessing something is wrong here. I have a 128bit WEP enabled home WiFi network. The Dopod works well on this network but I was asked on two occasions to enter the WEP key again. I enter it and it works for a few days and then all of a sudden it is asked of me again... Anyone else seen this behavior? Any ways to avoid it? Thanks
You're not the only one.
The Universal loses my access points (completely disappears from the list) and wants to re-pair my Bluetooth devices (GPS and headset) (sometimes they are listed, sometimes they disappear from the list, too) every so often. I'm surprised no one else has talked about this either.
I've seen it also. If your universal seems unusually slow to connect ot the access point, you better have to stop it, or it will loose your access poitn info. After a soft reset, everything goes back to normal.
This behaviour is appening rarely though, and is not a major bug to me, as it only appens once every 100 connections. It can also depend on your access point.
I connect my o2 Exec with my own and four different customer's ADSL-router/gateway/WiFi devices and have not experienced this, even when a couple of weeks elapse between my site visits. I normally configure full WPA-PSK/TKIP encryption, MAC address restrictions and use DHCP allocated addresses. A VPN is then used to connect from the wireless side through another firewall to the internal network.
Is there any correlation between the WiFi routers that have given you all problems. I use various ZyXEL models.
Getting really strange... All of a sudden, I'm getting prompted for my Exchange password that I connect to 4Smartphone.net... It seemed to have forgotten the password?
WTF?!?
lose wep
same for me
So it is not only my ****ty non -updated sfr rom ;-)
Are you getting a NO GSM message on your boot screen and/or is your IMEI missing from the Device Information applet?
I'm trying to see if the two issues are related.
I got the NO GSM message, and from that point forward, I lost the pairing of my Bluetooth devices and the wireless access points.
My theory: Any passwords or authentications are encrypted using the IMEI of the phone portion. When the IMEI is not present (shows a blank under Device Information) due to the NO GSM issue, the Windows Mobile OS instantly wipes out those "invalid" passwords or authentications or simply invalidates them, causing you to reauthenticate the device to other devices.

I don't know if it is relevant, but in the last 10 days I've come up with the PHONE OFF display without any reason. When this happens the phonepad appears out of nowhere, instead of my carrier's logo, it says Phone Off and the 9000 freezes.
Only soft reset solves the problem No I didn't have any problems YET with the WEP keys in my wifi connections...
Should I be worried though???
I'm not getting a NO GSM message on my boot screen or my IMEI is missing not from the Device Information applet. Sorry for not being able to confirm your hunch. The only times this happened to me was when I was at an extreme edge of the WiFi coverage and signal was very low. I was flipping in & out of it and eventually the WEP key prompt popped up. Very strange. Moral of the story for the time being for me, stay near that AP... Oh by the way, its a Netgear for what its worth.
Save and Restore Wifi Settings
My understanding is if there is any problem connecting to Wifi, WM6 deletes the Wifi settings for that access point. I think my friends have come up with a quick solution to this problem. Wifi Hero is a little application you can get for $2 that saves and restores your wifi settings using standard Windows Mobile APIs. Search for "Wifi Hero" and you should find it or the direct link is http://www.wireless-apps.net/desc.php?d=d1&id=246823
The coders work for Implicit Software (www.ImplicitSoftware.com) if anyone is interested in a site licence for this tool you can contact them through their web page.
Have you guys tried going to start>settings>connections>wifi>power> and putting it at "best performance." I've heard of similar (also experienced) issues when the bar was at best battery.

Cingular 8525 Wi-Fi issues

I've been having a bugger of a time with the Wi-Fi on my 8525. I keep getting a response that the WEP key is incorrect. I was able to connect once, and have since deleted my settings that the Wi-Fi network, but nothing I'm trying seems to get me connected.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I had a problem with my Wifi working when I first got the phone. But since I wanted to SuperCid the phone I had to downgrade the IPL to do so. I re flashed to the same Cingular 1.34 with IPL 1.06. Since then I have not had any problems with the Wifi.

Here's a thought. Why not try the Hitchhiker application. It tends to get round quite a few issues in set up. Also once you've got it working and connected to Wifi you can close it down if you wan to and you'll find it has saved correct settings for your normal way of connecting to wifi. Another benefit is that you can cut the wep key from a text document and paste it into the box it gives you (saves a lot of hassle whenever you need to re-enter the key - which in my case is 28 letters digits long!!) WM5 box as you may have discovered does not allow wep pasting!!
You need to have .netframework installed as well byt the link I give you also has a link for that as well:

I have similar problem too with my cingular 8525. I unlock it to work with t-mobile and also upgrade to wm6 . Now, I can not connect to my home wlan. If I click on wlan, it show my wireless network. But if I click on internet explorer, it show me the default internet window explorer with at & t and window mobile icons. when I click on either one, it take me to media net log in screen. help me
ok, i dont know how but my wifi started working last night!!! b4 it always looked for IP address and eventually disconnects b4 connecting to home network. so i installed "hitchhiker" but no luck either...so i uninstalled and then tried but this time it said connected to network and as soon as i open IE, it disconnects...it looked like wifi connects but then disconnects or timeout due to power settings, so i changed power settings under wifi settings to best performance and now it just connects right away...

Just wanted to let everyone know that switching from "best battery" to "best performance" also solved the "incorrect network key" error for me. Thanks Chakli!

Thank You Thank you Thank You. I've been at this for a few days now. It would have to be that simple.
Just remember you need to run the remove proxy cab file if proxy is has been set to use GPRS/WAP. Also make sure the right network interface is selected - like work uses 802.11 etc..

Can't connect using WiFi on my MDA Vario 2

Hi there,
My WIFI connection worked fine with a Belkin router I had. After upgrading to a 'Netgear Next Wireless ADLS2+ Modem (router)', I cant seem to lock onto the router.
I type in the WEP Key, but then the arrows of the indicator on the top continue moving showing that no connection has been established.
I am not as good as I would like to be with networking, so I need easy step-by-step advise with how I can set up a connection.
Please help.
Many thanks.

Anyone?
well since it worked before maybe the question should be posted in the Netgear forum
i would at first upgrade the firmware of the router if possible
Hi
I've not long had my Vario 2 and I had the same problem, it just refused to connect. I looked in the active Station List in my routers config page but there was no sign of my vario's MAC. I thought maybe the wifi was busted so I took it to work and connected fine. Back to my router then, eventually it appeared in the station list but was being reported as failing the WPA authentication. I must have put that key in I don't know how many times before it finally let me in. I don't know how it happenned but I just sat there repeatedly entering the key and refreshing router config screen.
I suggest you try connecting to another wifi network to test your device. Try connecting to yours with security off, then switch it back on.
I just had to seemingly bully my router into letting me connect, but after some time (several sessions over a few days) it did.

Incorrect Network Key - HTC P3600

Hi all,
I am having a strange problem with my HTC P3600 running WM5. For some days now it refuses to connect to my router (WEP encryption) complaining about the network key. Thing is, I have changed absolutely nothing neither to the router nor to the phone. Obviously I am absolutely positive that I am inserting the correct network key. Plus, the phone is able to connect with no problems to other secured networks.
I tried both a soft and a hard reset but the problem persists.
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly welcome.
Hi,
I presume it's your own network that you are trying to access.
In that case, just logon to the router/wireless access point and simply copy the network key and enter it into your device. Ensure that the key is copied exactly as it is written in the router.

Thanks for the reply and for offering a really good idea.
However it didn't work
Hi,
Sorry to hear that the solution offered does not work. I'm at a loss!
Assuming that your WiFi configuration on the device is correct, this problem should never take long to solve. The device asks for the correct network key, you simply provide the right key, enter it in the Network Key field and do a re-set. That should be it, but for some reason, it is not accepting your key.
Why not ask the network admin for the key. He should know it.

I would first try turning the encryption on the router to off to make sure you can get a connection to the router. The other thing you might try is to reset the router.

8125 wifi problem?

Heyooo
I'm new to my 8125, and am having the damndest time trying to connect to my wifi.
I have a proper WPA-PSK wifi network, and I've entered the network key several times now. Each time I try to connect though it fails and just reads the network as "available". When I look at the network key area theres far more stars than what I've actually entered for a key.
Is it buggering off and putting in the network key wrong itself, or is there something further I have to do to get it properly connected? I've connected to an open network no problem (al bet before I did a factory reset).
Any help would be appreciated =D Thanks!

Hey mods!
You can delete this thread. I figured out what it was (various router settings) that was preventing me and got it sorted.
