I recently left my Cingular 8125 in Bootloader mode over night, connected to my PC not knowing that it couldn't charge while in that mode. I woke up, and couldn't turn it on; I eventually found out that the battery couldn't charge while in Bootloader mode.
The only solutions that I've seen posted are to: (A) Get another charged battery, (B) Charge your battery in a working Wizard
Both solutions aren't possible for me at the moment... what I needed to know is if there is a way to charge using some funky wiring rig using standard AA batteries to power it for about 7-10min. or so.
Cut one end off an old usb cable. Then plug the usb cable into your computers usb port and touch the black wire to the (-) on the batt and the red wire to the (+) on the battery. It takes a few minutes, but the battery will charge. Then put the battery back in the phone and boot into the os. Then charge the phone as usual.

You can jump some wires to your battery from a battery charger to get some power to your battery --- need 5.7 volts -- positive to positve, negative to negative but I would not recommend doing this. Your battery is a lithium Ion which takes a special charge. Take it to a Cingular Store and ask the clerk if they could just charge it up in another phone for a couple of hours. I'm sure they won't mind.
Lithium Ion batteries are fussy about how they are charged, so its best to do it in another phone or a charger made for your battery.

EDIT: I stripped the USB cable, the outer wire is silver and there is quite a bit of it... there are four wires encased in the middle: one black, one brown, one red, one orange... I do not know which wires to connect to the pads on the battery.
Simple questions to the long story I wrote below the line(didn't realize it was so long):
I have two batteries that get a red light when trying to charge and they will not charge. I'm using a travel charger that came with the phone (used, not sure if it is the original charger). Input is 110-220V 50-60Hz Output is 5.5V 500mA. Says model T-HT-8125-SH on it.
Based on my findings, the phone should charge with 1.0A so it makes me think this is not an original charger. Old posts stated if the battery was this empty you need an original charger since it is the only thing strong enough.
The second question regards a new battery (just bought - one of the two above) dropping from having about 50% to having 0%. This is described in the story below, but could switching batteries / putting in a dead battery anything like this cause the new battery to lose it's charge all of the sudden? Or could there be damage to the phone other than the battery causing this issue?
Anyone have experience with this? What specs on a charger am I looking for that match the original charger? I may find other mini USB chargers around and if I have one that matches I can try it. I just don't want to damage the phone.

I have a wizard I bought used a couple months ago. It worked fine until a water damage issue occurred. I let it dry out for a week and then it was back to working fine. The only thing I noticed afterwards was sometimes the battery would drop from about 75% to 25% really quickly when it did not used to.
Last weekend, it was charging overnight and in the morning it would not turn on at all. I tried taking the battery out and trying to charge it again without success. The orange light usually does not come on. I either get no light, or a red light. Sometimes the red light stays, sometimes it blinks, but usually it is red when I first plug it in for a couple seconds then goes away.
I read recently in the manual that red means it is in LDO charging mode, thus the battery is empty. I thought the battery was dead so I ordered a replacement. It arrived, I stuck it in, it worked.
Now the weird part - I let it charge some on the new battery (it was around 18% when I got it). Then I decided to test the old battery and make sure that was indeed the problem. The phone wouldn't turn on or charge. However, I put the new battery back in and there is no charge. I tried charging it and the light was orange as it should be. However, after a couple more battery switches (I found out about the red light / orange light from the manual at this point so I went to test that with the old), the new battery is acting like the old battery. Both get a red light and will not charge.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the details. I suppose mine isn't an original charger as it only has half the power yours does (and is a different model). It is probably some generic third-party charger.
For anyone interested, I did manage to get the phone charging by jump starting the battery with a 9 volt battery (saw an old post about it). Just connect the positive terminal of 9V to positive end of battery, and negative end of 9V to negative on battery. I used the metal from the inside of twist ties to connect the two batteries. Hold for about 15 seconds, then see if it will charge. If not, take battery out of phone again and use the 9V for another 15 seconds..See if it will charge afterwards. It only took a couple tries before it had enough power to start charging with my charger. Just don't hold it too long as the 9V is nearly twice what you need.
Anyways - it's charging now and is at 80%. We will see if it works like it should afterwards. If so, then I will have two working batteries for the phone.
Note - this shouldn't be an issue with an original charger that is 1.0A. It seems the third party ones are less (500mA, or my car charger is 650mA). I imagine the original charger is strong enough to get it started even on a completely empty battery. If not, the 9V battery sure is.
Just an update - not sure what is going on. It finished charging and the light turned green. As soon as I unplugged the wall charger, it dropped down to 51%. Ok...so that was weird...maybe it wasn't really charged. So, I let it charge up to 100% again. Light turns green. Unplugged it, dropped immediately to 39%.
Anyone have any idea why it would lose a large amount of charge when I unplug the cable? I'm charging it for the third time now...I'm not sure what is going on.
This is all with one battery (the old one). I haven't done anything with the new battery yet to try and get it to charge, but this might explain how the new battery lost the charge it did have and became empty like the original battery - perhaps it lost it's charge when I unplugged it just as the old one is doing...in which case this seems like a phone problem...hopefully not though.

My wizard main battery (wiza16) was very low and the wizard stop with a message “The internal battery is very low”. After coming back home I have tried to charge but it is not taking charge and didn’t turn on anymore. I recently bought a new battery (wiza16, 3.7 VDC, 1250 mAH) thinking that it will work again but still the same problem, wizard is not taking charge or turn on.
Can anyone help me?? What can I do to start my wizard? Do I need to change the tiny little battery (which is inside the wizard)? Kindly help me.

See if when you connect the power plug the led turns red, if yes....
If Charge light is red when plug in AC adapter, it means the main battery is not charge enough and can’t power on,
You just need to continue charge unit the light become Amber
If not, i think you have a problem.
Check if charger its working and if its pluged.

There was no problem with my wizard, just can't turn on after it's battery discharge completely. Even the new battery couldn't turn that on.
You'll need the original charger if the battery has complelty discharged as it will only charge from the computer if the phone is powered on.
This happened to me before.
There is a trick to giving the battery a quick charge which will give it enough juice to boot the phone up and allow it to charge from usb. its not recommended but works.
You will need a spare usb cable, cut one end of, strip the wires back and connect the red wire to + and the black to - on the battery, only do it for a short period, about 30 seconds while conneted to your computer.
You may need to give it a few 30 second bursts to give it enough juice.
Pop the battery back into the phone and switch it on while pugged into the PC
Took me a few attempts to get enough charge in the battery for it to boot up.
Wizard battery
You can also use a 9V battery to jumpstart your battery. But then you have to be more careful. I connected the 9v battery to my Wizard battery for about 15 seconds, then tried to start up my device. If not successful I started again with 15 seconds jumpstart..

yea that's the right one but if you have a friend with a ppc or maybe a razor you can use there charger most ac adapters are starting to use mini usb just a way of saving some money even though having an ac adapter is good
could also try and get one of those usb plugs that you can plug up to a wall and plug in a usb cable into the slot
but don't take my word for this wit hmy wizard i haven't had it shut all the way day
if anybody can verify this would work
AC charger not also working
I have got the AC charger yesterday. When Connect the Ac charger first time the red light on my wizard showed for just half second then dissappear. Still let that connected for whole night but no response.

@Keland44, most Razr chargers dont work, they MUST be at least 850mA in order for the Wizard's battery to receive anything. The older Razr chargers are sometimes as low as 350mA, but the never ones are as high as 1.2A, so you need to read the label on the charger itself to be sure.

Yup that is about right,
If the battery is complelty dead, then you need to original charger.
If you have got the right charger and you get a red light and it goes off. your phone might have a problem.
This happened to my last wizard after stupidly trying to dry out the screen after getting it wet which stopped the touchscreen working (i was drying it out while the phone was still on) well my wizard crashed.
Took ages to get it back on but it was very unreliable then one day, it wouldnt go on and charger done nothing. Unpluging and pluging the charger in several times got a red light on.
Sometimes i could get it to turn on, the charger would charge for about 5 minutes then the phone would die soon after.
Your phone might possibly be bricked.

Yesterday my wizard goes died, i think the battery out
when i came home, i use AC Charger for HTC Universal, for 1st time its red light then off,
after 15 minutes orange light, i try to turn on my wizard and works but only in boot loader 5 minutes again its going off again

Well, this is the first time i have made a thread. I bought an HTC Wizard about 2 weeks ago, i got it from a guy on ebay. The charger that came with it worked great, no problems at all, just happy to have my pocket pc back. the other day i ran in to a problem i was stuck with a dead mda and no charger. I went to the store and bought an iGo charger. i figured since my batt. was completly dead i would have to let it sit on the charger for a while. It charger for 24 hours and nothing, no indicator light not bootloader no power up. i finally got the charger that came with the phone. and it still will not charge. i tested both the chargers and the fuction properly with other phone so that rules that out. i need help i am now out of a phone. can some one HELP ME!!!
Try to charge the battery with other phone,you might need to 'Jump Start' the battery.
A completely discharged battery will only get charged with a wall charger capable of 1 amp out put or jump start the battery and it'll start to charge,but if the battery is gonner and faulty,it won't charge at all,you'll have to get a new one.
I think I'm having the same problem as the OP. My phone ran dead the other day in the middle of a call. I tried to restart it so I could send a text to the person I was on the phone with to let them know that I would call back when I charged my phone. It stuck on the splash screen and I'm pretty sure that it drained the battery completely. Now, it won't charge and the indicator doesn't come on.
Can you tell me more about this "jump start" that you speak of? More specifically, can you explain how to do it and what is needed?
What you need to do is get ahold of a standard 9-voly batter and 2 wires. On your Wizards battery, locate the positive(+) and negative(-) terminals, and hole one end of each wire there, then on the 9-volt, hold the corresponding wire to said terminal(pos to pos, neg to neg) and hold it there for approximantely 30 seconds. After waiting for 30 seconds, put the battery back in the Wizard and connect it to a wall charger that outputs 1AMP or higher and it should charge.
Same thing happened to me -let the battery get too low and then couldn't charge it with the phone. I bought a desktop charger for wizard battery from ebay and a spare battery. The performancde from the battery is much better from the desktop than it is when charged in the phone. For the sake of £3 it's worth a shot.
Hey everyone been using this thread for a few months now it's so useful and I appreciate all the help. I know this has been posted before and I tried all the steps listed in the other thread but last night I let my phone die and when I plug it in it just boots up until the dark forces team screen before it starts over again i tried all the steps listed to get it to charge it just seems not to work. I was able to get into the magldr screen if I plug it in and hold volume and power off. From there I choose to power down and as long as it stays plugged in the orange light comes on but when I try to power it on nothing happens. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much
you cant charge it powered off without winmo, simple.
2 options, borrow battery long enough to flash wnmo on your phone, use your phone to charge battery, or put battery in another winmo hd2 to charge enough to start android. (or, let it sit for an hour or two, they sometimes recover a little charge, perhaps enough to boot. Boot with the usb in, cos ability to charge kicks in about half way thru teh boot process.

@bakse, whats to explain?
get a usb cable,
cut the usb end off,
strip off the silver shielding,
find the red and black wires,
bare the ends,
attach the ends to the battery,, red to +, black to - (it says on the battery which is which)
plug in the usb cable.
After a minute, remove the wires, and try the battery in the phone, and hope it has enough power to start to boot and start to charge.
I read a fair few posts where people were holding the wires to the battery by hand, it is after all only a few volts dc, but i just wasnt that brave and went for gaffer tape.

Ha ha I have been a electrician for 15 years now and I can tell you with 100% assurance that the very small voltage that it takes to charge the battery of any cell phome will never ever affect you in any kind of way. You know I had often wondered if you could charge the battery in this fashion but was not completely sure as my I do not have a full understandimg of yhe iom bstteries yet.

hehe, i did 3 years as an electronics tech in the RAF, (long time ago) so im not usually that nervous around electricity, but i was last night, , generic 3 pin usb charger, generic usb cable, stories of batteries bursting, ANYTHING could have happened!
Ive tried it again today on an old dispensable htc elfin, held it for 5 mins, which is far longer than any posts ive read. Battery got warm, but not worryingly, and when i booted the elfin it had 2%, and managed fully booting plus ten minutes use, and id drained it completely before starting.
Im glad ive tried it, and now i hope i never need to do it again.

I did the USB cord trick and it seems to juice the battery, but when I finally got to the menu me being so caught up in the excitement that my phone wasn't bricked and that I could get it running again forgot to plug in my phone to be charged and it died again... Now I am using the hacked up USB cord to charge my battery, but is doesn't seem to charge it very fast and after about 10 minutes of letting it sit I get to the boot screen in Magldr but the battery dies mid boot. Now my question is should I leave the battery to be charged with the red and black wire USB trick and how long can I let the battery charge like that will it be fine for a few hours? Thanks for your replies in advance.

I don't know if it would be safe to leave the wire connected to the battery that long. To be safe I would only leave them connected to the battery for 15 to 20 minutes 30 minutes max. I would also monitor the battery making sure it is not getting warm/hot or that the batterry does not start to swell.As either of this things are signs that you should disconnect the wires.
Well it worked I got it charged to 5% and it took forever, but when I put it in my phone and it booted it said it was currently charging, but when I woke up dead again...
Charge with wall charger, not via PC,, the current of PC charging is way lower, so for an almost flat battery it may not be enough to both charge and run the phone.
Ive been doing this usb cable hack/trick what ever u wanna call it for a few days now my usb port is completely busted and ive got wp7 on it struggling to find anyone near me that will fix it as im not brave enough to take the phone apart and replace the micro usb port
HTC HD2 running NAND won't turn on after battery died
I spent couple hours last night after my phone accidently died and was unable to turn on even charging with wall charger, I read about trick with cutting usb or charging cable and attaching wires to the battery. Finally, I found great solution by myself. I simply connected phone to my car charger and in less than 1 minute it started Android and after couple minutes I was able to move my phone back to the wall charger
actually you can charge the battery with whatever you have handy.
I charged phone batteries with anything ranging from wires cut off from just about any li-ion phone charger (older nokias, samsung and se preferable), solar panels, other batteries (3 standard aaa alkaline batteries in series will do the job also - almost no risk to phone battery) electrochemical reactions (the best one, getting electricity from mustard using copper and zinc electrodes - also worked but you need 6 "custom made" mustard "cells" ), any sort of usb port etc
My choice depended on whatever i had handy at my disposal at that particular moment.
I also powered up phones with empty (or if i suspect them to be dead) batteries by placing 3 aaa rechargeable (ni-cd or ni-mh.. NEVER USE primary-non rechargeable batteries or any sort of alkaline/carbon based chemistry) batteries in series with the + and - leads over the ones in the phone but WITH the original phone battery connected (it won't work if you simply supply the phone with 3.7 - 4.3 volts.. the center phone battery pin is needed).
They all work and for a one time quick emergency charge, it will be fine (just don't make a habit on doing these to often).
