Ok I'm pretty sure you have a sdcard slot. Take the back cover off your touch leave it off and put it screen side up. On the side where the stylus is pull out on the middle of the chrome piece right above the camera. Then you can it flip down. There should be a slot inside there.

found it!
I found the sd slot. Thanks!

Potentially Bricked Incredible... SOS

So I attempted the OTA 2.2 update and I'm honestly not sure what exactly went wrong. I waited for Verizon to push the update, but apparently the update was corrupted because the OS was acting very sporadic and my Baseband wasn't upgraded because it was (and still is) on 1.x.
I attempted to upgrade the baseband and thing got really strange... I could try to explain everything I've done to try to fix the phone but I really can't come to a solid conclusion. I've worked extensively in the iPhone jailbreaking scene but the Android stuff is a bit different so I'm still learning how the phone is logically designed, etc the hard way.
Here's where I am now:
I cannot boot into recovery via any means... I'm pretty sure that the partition is deleted because it just jumps straight back to HBOOT. When I was still able to get into recovery, the sdcard couldn't mount as well as a few other things in /dev/block. I can't get HBOOT to recognize ANY PB31IMG.zip's nor would clockwork install them from recovery before I lost recover... when I try to flash recovery with fastboot, it says not allowed. I didn't think it would be an issue because I have S-OFF.
I feel like if I can re-flash the newest clockwork or cyanogen from HBOOT, I can then mount my sdcard and restore to 2.1 and then try to OTA again (after a nandroid backup), but I can't really get around HBOOT's permission hissy-fit.
I can't just take my phone back to the verizon store either because I'm in college and have no car and there isn't one nearby.
Any help is appreciated!

One simple thing to check: is your SD card formatted FAT32? If it's the stock 2GB one, then probably not. You need FAT32 to flash PB31IMG.zip...
Yup, if you can get to hboot you're fine, just make sure its formatted correctly as previous poster said.
Hmm ok well, I read that little bit elsewhere and you are completely right, the card was fat16 so I formatted it as fat32 and it still doesn't offer to update the zip... The only thing I can think of is perhaps there was a problem with me having to use my phone as the card reader? I don't really have any other options there and now I can't mount it in recovery to try again.
I have a blackberry 9650 that could act as the reader I suppose... If I can get it to boot without the battery. I somehow had it pulled and left it all the way back home.
Any tips are still appreciated. Thanks guys!
I am not 100% sure this will work but since it sounds like your phone is not bricked but you have issues getting the right files on your SD card...
Card readers for your computer are dirt cheap, no?
Head to Best Buy, pick one up, and then download and transfer the files you need on it over from the computer. Then put the SD card back in your phone, and start over.
I hope someone will chime in if this sounds like a bad idea for some reason...

The problem is that I can't easily get to a place that sells MicroSD card readers. If I were so able, I would just go to the Verizon Store and get my unit replaced, as the technicians advised me to do on Twitter.
I need a way to format the SD card from fastboot or something else... perhaps my Blackberry 9650 will do it if it's only getting a charge from the sync cable. I shouldn't have left its battery at home. My mistake
Has anyone else had an issue with formatting it from a phone directly?

I completely agree.. however I'm unable to get it formatted. One of my suite mates has a Moto Droid so hopefully it can format it and all will be well.
Here's another question though.. Why can't I flash a recovery image via fastboot? I keep getting "writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allowed)" and I'm using official images with S-OFF set so I don't really see what the problem is. I've searched around quite a lot and can't find much on it. I at least want to be able to boot recovery, or maybe flash the system partition back from hboot via fastboot.
Just curious. Thanks guys!
I had some problems with my SD Card as well (it would not recognize PB31IMG.zip) during hboot, but clockworkmod could read it. I believe there was a problem with the SD Card, kind of wierd to explain, but I replaced it with another SD Card and that problem has gone away. Could be your card is "partially" defective.
this scenario kind of happened to my friends's new incredible. unfortunately he is not rooted nor s-off. After he applied the OTA and rebooted the phone it just FC's after the boot screen animation. I'm hoping that the factory reset/data wipe will fix this thru the stock recovery or hopefully will let me put the signed .zip RUU on the sdcard and flash thru the stock recovery.
Ill let you know how things go, but it seems im in a darker situation than you are as I have no clockwork recovery to play with and get this working.

One of my SD cards is fully defective, but the one from my Blackberry is fine... I just have no means to format it.
And to the poster above me, I don't have recovery anymore since my recovery partition is apparently wiped (my bad ), however I do have S-OFF. It's just all frustrating. Why can't I flash it straight over USB like the iPhone? I miss my beloved DFU Restores with iTunes
You do need to format the SD card to fat 32 and I would do a factory re-set also.

You realize that you don't need a micro SD reader if you have the full size sd to micro adapter card that comes with almost all micro sd cards...
Also make sure you didn't rename your file PB31IMG.zip.zip. One zip is enough and if it's a zip file, Windows will put the proper extension on automatically.
If you can get into hboot, you're not hosed yet.

I have read that around... I work on a Mac and I have it setup so that file extensions are always displayed but I was last trying most of these fixes from a Win7 pc that isn't setup that way... the file extensions are hidden but that said, unless I saw "PB31IMG.zip" in explorer, I wouldn't have any issues because there is only one hidden file extension. However, now that most of the people here at my college have gone home for the weekend, I can't verify that =/
I understand that I'm not really hosed... I knew I wasn't bricked, but I'm close and it should get some people to look at this thread just a little bit more. It's a dirty little trick but it works. Hence "potentially"
And yes, I'm aware of the SD adapter thing, if I had one I could just format it through my digital camera... too bad all of my MicroSD cards came with my phones so there is no adapter.
You must be at the only college without a Walmart within walking distance. I hope you get it working, as a new SD card formatted FAT32 should fix you right up - I wouldn't trust your current card given what you've described already.

Much less the only college where you don't have friend or a friend of a friend that has what you need. Much less a resident dorm geek around to ask for help. I'm sure if you ask around someone would have a reader or adapter. Perhaps you will have to use it under their supervision so they make sure it doesn't grow it's own feet, but I'm sure if you asked around.

Stuck on Stick Together Screen

Hey Guys, Im new to the HTC HD2.
I got this phone from a guy at my shop. The previous computer guy did this to the phone and he said if i fixed it i could either buy it or sell it. I am sorry i do not have much information or the specifics to what exactley happened but i do have two pictures that i am including.
I have tried hard and soft reset. Also i have tried to restore to factory settings. I have a 4 gb sd card if needed. The phone is stuck at the stick together screen. Also there is no Serial when i am in the tri color boot screen. Also the phone will not connect via activesync nor will it sense it at all. The computer i am doing all of this work on is a 32bit xp os.
Any help or information would be appreciated.
The Phone is already HSPLed, but the issue you say you cannot establish a connection with PC, did you try the SD Card Flash method? That is by placing your Stock ROM NBH in the SD Card and flash it from there? Just check the General Forum, you will find the step-by-step procedure there.
So your saying do something like this?

And also i do not know all the phone terms. The last time i was here was back in 08 when i had my htc fuze. If you would please direct me in a specific way.

No that link you posted is to instal Android on the HD2. Seeing as you do not know the history of the HD2 youcshould go back to stock first. Go the links I post below and follow my instructions. Go to this link to get your ROM. Look under batterry for IMEI number, ROM downloadclink in step 4.
http://support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm54430.xml
Right click on the file you download and rename it from a .exe file to a .zip file. Then right click it again and select view/explore which ever one you see and find the.RUU_signed.nbh file and copy it to a micro SD card of 8 gig and under formatted Fat 32. Once it is on the micro SD card rename the file to LEOIMG.nbh and then put the micro SD card in the HD2. Boot the HD2 into bootloader and when you see searching on the screen of the HD2 and let go of the volume down button and it should ask you of you want to flash the image, press the end button to comfirm and the ROM will flash. Be advised though this will remove HSPL from the HD2.
Here is a link to the flashing by SD card thread.

Once you have the xxx.tar.gz you need to expanded at two levels. First you are need to uncompress the file to get to the xxx.tar archive. Then you need to open the .tar archive to get to the image file, 8gb_clockwork-0.7.
If you are running UNIX this is a simple process likely to just required double clicking. If you are running Windows you need a 3rd party program like 7-zip.
Once you get the get to the img file you use a utility to burn the image to the SD card. I run windows and used WinImage.
Once I got the files on the uSD card I replaced the uImage and uRamdisk files as described in the instructions.

Ok i think I have most of that down now. I should be getting my SD card in a couple days and then can start hacking it. Are you using CM7 for your NC? That seems to be the best right now. If i have any trouble, ill be sure to ask for help. Thankssss

Questions about CM7...

I have tried looking for these, but it's been a long night of not understanding some of this stuff and I've gotten to that dreaded, "I give up, this isn't worth it" point. Because of this I may simply not be seeing the answers right in front of me. These are the things I don't understand right now.
1. I've followed the steps to the letter about installing CM7 on an SD card. Then I try to follow the steps to get gapps on there and can't boot into recovery. I don't think I actually can boot into recovery from sd but it doesn't say no anywhere. Confused.
2. I don't get why there is a dialer on the ROM. It's so strange that it makes me question whether I did something wrong. Am I the only one that thinks this is wierd or is there some backstory to why it's been left built into the ROM? There's gotta be some reason.
3. Still can't find anything that tells me how I would go about installing apps that I have apk files for on my computer, where I copy them to on my sd card, and where I put other files (pdfs, docs, videos, music) that I want to be able to run.
4. Is an sd card ROM install REALLY the same as booting from the nook itself? Or dual-booting? I feel like it couldn't possibly be the same speed or fluidity. i need to have the ROM but I also need easy access to the actual Nook.
Again, I'm probably wrong in my thinking with some of these things, but very often, even in noob guides, these questions aren't really addressed directly. Anyway, if someone can help me understand these things, I'd really appreciate it. I'm almost at my wit's end fishing for these answers.
Thanks, guys.
1) Just let cm7 load up. Then hold power. A menu comes up. Select reboot. Then select recovery. Then it will do its thing.
2) Cyanogenmod's builds it rom for multiple devices, most of which are phones, so there are items in the rom that pertain to phones ie. dialer.
3) Apks can be placed on any storage area of sd card, or even emmc for that matter, all you need is a file explore like Astro or I believe cm7 rom comes with a file explore. Then just go to the location where you saved the apk and you will be given the option to install the apk.
4)This depends on your sd card. Sandisk cards are the pick of the litter and provide a good user experience. If you use a less worthy sd card then yes there will be lag and it will be less fluid. I myself am on emmc but my friend is on a sandisk card and both perform pretty much the same.

1. To boot into recovery easily boot into CM7 then on the homescreen hold down the power button until the power off menu appears choose "reboot", in the next menu choose "recovery" and press "OK". The nook would reboot straight into recovery.
2. Those apps are included to allow more apps to show up in the market. You didn't do anything wrong.
3.To install APK applications on your Android phone do the following:
Copy the APK file you want to install to your phone's memory card and insert the card into your Android phone.
Go to Android Market and search for the Apps Installer, App Installer, z-App Installer or Fast Installer application.
Open it and click on the Install button.
After it is installed, just open it. It will show you all the APK files stored directly in the root directory of your memory card.
Just click on the application you want to install and it will be installed.
You could also just install a file manager app like Astro File Manager and then browse to the APK and install it.
4. Depends on the SD card if you using a sandisk card there isn't really any difference but eMMC is always going to be at least a little bit faster and SD cards are more likely to fail quicker but if your using a sandisk you really shouldn't have a problem.
Hope that helps.

Try putting your sd card back into your computer and put the google apps zip in the boot partition again. Then try the steps mentioned above.
That tiny partition is your boot partition there should be others that were created for storage purposes. I think verygreens process creates 4 partitions. You might need partitioning software to see the other partitions if your computer does not recognize them.
Edit: This thread has some info on the partition software http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187625
I dont know, Im thinking I might not have recovery. Is that even possible?
I had first used the microsd card to try a Honeycomb ROM and then used win32diskimager to place the cm7 rom on there thinking it would completely write over what was there. Should I have formatted instead?
Maybe this is an opportunity to try the rc 7.1?
Sent from the XDA App
Yes I would suggest that you format and start from the beginning using verygreens process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957 and CM 7.1 rc.
As far as recovery no you do not have recovery such as clockwork mod per-say. This part of the process doesn't take you to a recovery menu. What it does is initiate the install process of the google apps zip.
I don't see a 7.1. I only see these: ??

Is that basically what you mean by 7.1? The newest one of these?

What you are seeing is the boot partition. Your storage is on the 4th partition. To access your storage space you should transfer it over through the nook via USB.

Ok, cool. Thanks.
Actually, that is because when you created the image to on the card the software only formatted as much as it needed for the image and left the rest unformatted. Download EaseUS to your PC and you can then stretch the unformatted partition out or create an additional one and get your space back. The app is here and it is free: http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

Even so, you can only access it through usb via the NOOK, at least on Windows since it only sees the very first FAT32 partition, which appears to be the boot partition.
You guys are awesome. I've totally come to understand better this whole process. I was at that deep-end point last night where nothing was making sense, everything was coming out wrong, and ai was ready to give up. Now I have a pretty smooth running and sweet cm7 nook color. I wish it could run Honeycomb but alas... maybe in time.
For now, the only thing missing for me is to know what the best video player is for CM7 and whether Flash runs on this ROM or not in browsers.
Thanks, guys.

Flash a ROM without MicroSD? Gift for my dad, please help!

Hi, guys. I need some help, if possible. I ordered a A500 as a gift for my dad from TechForLess. It was shipped to me with 3.0.1 demo firmware...which is essentially unusable. When I reset, it just comes back.
I did a search and other people have had this issue. They flashed a ROM using Micro SD. I tried that, but it doesn't appear that my unit is recognizing the card in the MicroSD card reader.
I'm getting a refund, but they're letting me keep the unit, and I'm trying to get it up and running for my dad for Father's day.
How can I flash a ROM (any working ROM) on this unit, not using MicroSD? For what it's worth, my computer recognizes the unit, so if there's a way to do that, it might work.
I'm new to all of this. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Yeah Baby, we can help!!!!
It all depends on what you want to do.
a. Do you want to keep it stock (factory). This is ok with warranty, but seeings it's a demo model, I would guess it doesn't come with much of a warranty. Not to mention a demo model is as useless as teats on a boar hog. So skip to step c.
b. You wanna make it rock? For the best reliabilty and functional use, you're going to have to root. With the OS you have, it's darn simple. Just access the android market, and download acer recovery installer to the tab.
Wait, you're not finished.
Now you should look here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205204&highlight=iconiaroot
Then you can run AcerRecovery and install a custom HC based rom.
c. You want to run a stock update for the tab.
Now, you can't just put any old rom on the tab's sd card, and expect it to install. It doesn't work like that. First, the rom you install, has to be named "update.zip", and it should be a full rom update install. Not a patched one.
Also, the procedure to install, requires some buttons to be held. Most importantly, Holding Vol+ and the PWR button. This forces the tab to look for the update.zip on the Ext SD card.
You need to go here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878
Grab a full update (you might need to decrypt it to pull the update. I would take a ComGen1. (after decrypt, open in 7zip, not extract)
Copy the update.zip to your Ext SD card, and do the step above to boot. This should install a stock full rom to the tab off the SD card.
Not many people get 3.0.1 tabs these days.....

and if that one don't "stuff" your kitten, we got a whole lot of other tricks....

Thanks-- but it's not reading my SD card, so I think the reader might not be working. I'm not worried about that for my dad, but I need a way to get a working ROM on there that doesn't involve the SD card reader. I'm hoping that's one of your tricks!
Your tablet comes with a built in SD card (basically the memory you have on your tablet) 8 gb or 16 gb I've flashed mods through the built in SD card but I've never tried a from so I can't speak on that but I think you will be able to if you just download the rom and try to flash it but I'm not 100% sure so wait for someone to let you know but that that's just an idea to throw at you.

If I can get it going with a normal ROM, it's a win. If not, it's a huge pain in the ass. The SD card not mounting is killing me! There HAS to be a way... Right?
Well, I managed to get it rooted without using an SD card. Then I installed Acer Recover, but it's still looking to install an update from the SD card, which it can't see. When I go into Clockwork recovery and try to flash that way, it finds an update.zip at /SDcard/update.zip. I thought if I could replace that file, it could do the trick...but I can't find it using my computer.
This is driving me insane? Any other thoughts for how I can do this without a working SD card reader in the tablet?

I did get rooted. So, in cwm, I can mount a USB stick, and then run the update from there? If so, that would do the trick. Just need a stick.
Would that work?

Yes. In CWM you will have to mount the USB stick though. Then you can flash from the stick drive. (not capable in the original version of CWM)
I also remember Thor at one time, made it possible to flash from internal memory, but not sure If I remember correctly.
I would suspect after you get running again with a real rom, your SD card will probably start working again. They may have it disabled for demo purposes.
I would just install one of the 3.2.1 customs instead of messing with the update.zip. They were designed to run from SD card. Till you get that issue fixed, I would run custom. You can get a stock rooted 3.2.1 in the dev forum.
Format your Ext SD to FAT32 on your pc after you get up and running.

EDIT: One more thing. "IF" you install a plain STOCK 3.2+ rom, (a non-pre rooted stock rom) you will lose your CWM recovery and root. And the process to "roll-back" is a bit of a pain. Not impossible, just more steps again.
I need a stick to give it a shot, but fingers are crossed. Appreciate the help. I'll report back....

I believe in the newer CWM, you have to mount the USB in Mounts and Storage. Basically I think it switches between EXT SD and USB Storage. Never used it myself, but the option is there.
Also, you can install a zip from internal memory as well in the newer versions of CWM.

In this version, I have the option to mount USB...I'm hoping that does the trick...because it was tough enough to find a root method that didn't involve the MicroSD slot.

Well, you're learning the hard way (always the best, believe me)
You get this thing going, and you lose your n00b status
Tell me, what version of CWM are you running?

It's cwm v5 (thor2002ro rev1.3.2).
Tried to mount the USB, but got an error: "E:Unable to open ums lunfile (no such file or directory).
Crap. There has to be a way to get a working ROM on this thing. When I had my DroidX, I could flash through my PC.
Anyone have any thoughts?
