Being a newb SUCKS!

Ok so.. I finally after months flashed my second rom
HAd some trouble, I have to admit..
DC~~
I had trouble and I did some wiping and messing with my SD chip and that was the only way I could functionally get a flash..
I just spent a day and a half setting my phone up to my liking and its become apparent apps2sd isn't working and my SD card only has one 1.5 partition out of 2 gb.
Sorry if there are posts with directions of how to work from this point to keep everything while enabling apps2sd and transfering
I dont know where to start searching.

get a app called dconfig, it has an option to move your apps so they're on the card.
other than that im not sure what youre asking.
it might be simpler just to flash your phone, format your card and start from scratch.

do some searching on here, goggle & ppcgeeks for how to root, flash a recovery image, partition your sd card and flash a rom. just make sure the guide you are using and the rom you use is for a cdma based hero.

I'm rooted I might just need to flash the Rom with the SD card.formatted correctly... I'm going to try to re find where the apps are stored and save them... id love to just be able to correct my SD config and set up apps2sd and move em over so I can keep my home screen set up as well as the info supplied in my apps and todo lists..

Maybe I'm not a newb, I'm just stupid... I rooted using ubuntu karmic and I had apps2sd working before I moved to damage control

hmm.. Damage control rom comes with Dconfig and it has apps2sd enabled and move apps to sd checked.
Ok heres the thing..
I had a Modaco rom before and with apps2sd enabled and the SD formatted properly.
Plugging my phone into a computer would open up 2 drives... One 1 designated to be 1.5 gb and another .5 gb
How ever now I only see one.. the 1.5 gb
My memory is running low as if everything i've installed is in the phone.
searching through the phone i can't seem to find where these apps are being saved...
Are they on the elusive .5 gb partition I can't seem to see??
i think not... I just rebooted and my available space is 63.74mb
It's all becoming a no brainer that i should reflash the rom with the correct specifications to the SD chip...
But what I want to know, is there a way around this. ( I don't see any options, but I'd love to reformat my SD correctly and get apps2sd working on my own, moving all my apps over there while keeping any stored data intact...) <--- is this possible??

For the moment, Ill back up my SD contents and hunt down how to partition correctly.. then I'll see if I can't find the folders where it is storing downloaded apps... then I'll disable then enable the apps2sd setting in dconfig and download an app... if all goes well i'll start pushing my apps over and do the whol "fix apk uid" in the recovery menu...
Hell maybe ill even decide to get a newer recovery besides 1.2.3 while im at it hahah.. any suggestions would be appreciated

So... Why is my memory so low???
I'm about to take my SD chip out and see if I cannot access the contents of these folders without it in...
MY APPS2SD IS WORKING AND HAS BEEN WORKING
Sorry guys... somethings just up[or rather DOWN] with my memory and my SD card reads differently...

There's only one way to stop being a n00b: Learn.
You're doing fine. My suggestion is to not take it all on at once. Focus on one problem, fix it, learn from it and move on to the next one. You'll be a pro in no time.
I would guess that you need to repartition the SD card when moving from one ROM to the next, but I've never really played with apps2sd. See? You know more about it than I do!

download app: quick systems info
to see if your a2sd is working and how much is being used.
use the dconfig to make sure you have dalvik cached moved to sd... reboot the phone.
i am guessing at this....
you say you had a2sd working before with Madaco and could see 2 drives... that sounds wrong to me. if a2sd was working, then you should not see the 2nd drive. you are only able to see the main larger drive and that is it.. the others are used by android and not available to us.
now that you can not see the 2nd drive. sounds like a2sd is working. the app i suggested should confirm for you.

I did get everything working and my memory remains the same when I install applications.... perhaps I could see the second drive because I'm running Linux and/or the way I formatted the sd or the extension...

I think what you are describing is your SD-EXT partition (the a2sd partition you made). If you have a 2GB card and partitioned your card to be .5GB EXT, then it will appear your SD is 1.5GB. You get what I'm saying?

I used to be able to see 2 partitions as well. I think it was only with 1.5 ROMs.
If you want to mount both partitions then all you need to do is reboot into recovery and select the USB mount. Then both partitions will show up.
But you really don't need to mess with that second partition. Go to the market and download Titanium Backup. That will backup all your apps and settings. Restoring is a little annoying to do since you have to click for every app but if you buy the donate version then you don't have to do that.

I perfer Backup For Root Users... does the same thing but is free and is one-click one-shot deal.

New HTC HD2 user again :)

Hi I just wanted to say thank you to all of your hard work on this site. Both admin and developers. I didn't expect much when I bought this phone, I got very good price and it was brand new, so why not. Just got it 4 days ago.
Than I did some youtube and saw some pretty cool stuff, and here I am
Anyway, I tested out Android on SD and it was cool, I like it better than WM6.5 but camera could have been better. Feels like WM6.5 camera is better.
Now today I decided to try out Nand version. Omg it took me like 4-5hours, I know lots of information is already there, so I study, study and study. Decided to go with
[28 MAR][CWM ZIP]★★★★★HyperDroid-CM7-v1.0.4[a2sd+][CyanogenMod7 2.3.3][Tytung_R8.3]
Everything went smooth, except that I almost killed myself, it was not easy but it was fun. Lots of reboot on HD2 thou.
Anyway everything seems to be running fine and it feel smooth and good. About Ram I saw it list 411 but I guess it's correct because system use the rest.
Anyway sorry for making this long, I have one question. I tried to edit build.prop but without success. I tried and copy to memory and than to pc and edit there to make icon bigger. But when I tried to copy it over to root/system it fail. Same thing when I download text editor from Market and edit on phone, it can't save. How can I make icon bigger if I can't save the file?

for editing build.prop you should get root explorer from the market or the internet.
then in root explorer go to /stystem and there is you build.prop
then click open in text editor and you should be fine

You need to make system R/W,its prolly in read only mode so you need to change it to read&write.

Thanks guys, I will play some more with the phone, haven't got time today. Just testing out some games. Since WM6.5 had very bad Market and barely any games. I tried not to ask to much, but do some research for my own, there's already so much written in forum. But sometimes it's kinda difficult to find the answer.

Feels like some stuff that install, can't be remove to SD card. Wont this be a issue? I had a message told me that I have almost no space left :/
And btw games that I have for Android, like Angry Birds. Where does save games go? on SD card? Because I am receiving a new SD card on Friday and would love to use that one but don't wanna loose all save for my games.

well for me on this build most of the apps work while on sd card.
some apps btw don't work on gingerbread builds.
well for the SD card you can just copy all the files you have on there to your new one right? that way you definately won't lose anything

I got 32GB Kingston yesterday, I copy all from my old card to PC, and than copy it over to new one. I had some problem at beginning, files wont install. But than I took new one out and reformat with SDFormatter, it seems to works fine now.
But unfortunately my saves files don't seems to work. I re-install Angry Birds but I have to start all over again.
Btw when you click on Apps button on homepage you get lots of apps/games, and you can make a new folder, and than customize it. But can you delete a folder call "All"

By the way when I flash to newest version of Hyperdroid do I need to make new partition so it work with APP2SD+ to work with exern patition?

And I did the same in clockwork I made 1gb partition and install Rom. But it doesn't seems to work

Not quite sure what you're getting at. When you make a partition, the phone recognizes that partition as additional space, or just available space the phone has. In other words, partition space is phone space according to the rom. So your apps when installed to the partition should say they are installed to phone. Correct me if this is not what you wanted or trying to get at.

Sorry if I didn't explain correctly. What I want is the extra extern space. As you know HD2 have small intern storage. And on my last Rom I did partition 1gb before I install the Rom. And when I install apps/games they all went to that extern instead of phone's intern.
But I did exactly same thing with this Rom, but it seems that games/apps that I used on last Rom, they went on phone's intern instead of that partition I made. Is there anyway I can make sure there's a extern partition? Any program that I can check with?

BTW for density I recomend using 217, its the natural dpis for our scren size & resolution.

Some ROM's you have to turn on auto moving to SD card in the settings. Check there. Anything currently on your phone will have to be moved to the SD card via application manager.
You run any Linux? Easiest way to work with your SD card.

I can't find where I can setup it to move to SD card. Look everywhere in settings. No I use Windows 7, is there anyway to reformate SD card for extra extern without re-install Rom?

That's where you turn on auto moving. Anything already installed will need moved manually via settings -> applications -> manage applications. Click on a program and choose "move to SD card".
Easy partition creation:
Reformat the whole thing in Win7 using default allocation size.
Boot into MAGLDR -> AD Recovery to enter CWM Recovery Mode
Once in CWM choose advanced, then choose Partition SD card, then choose the size of the partition (Maximum of 1024M recommended)
The choose 0 for the swap and partition away.

We are using the same ROM. Did you check in settings? Mine has the cyanogenmod settings.
And yes to the partitioning. That's how I did mine. Not sure if the ROM need reinstalled as I've always had my card partitioned before the install.

[Q] How do I drop files into the system/app folder?

I'm running B&N 1.2 rooted with ManualNooter 4.4.28 and I saw a couple posts where people said they dropped some apks into their system/app folders to install apps that wouldn't install from the market. When I plugged my Nook into the computer, I don't have access to the system folder in order to copy the apk over. I tried just putting it on the sd card and using the Astro file manager and the ES file explorer to copy and paste into that folder, but it won't let me. What do I need to do in order to do that?

You need to remount the /system as read/write, it's read-only by default.
You'll probably need a terminal emulator, or preferably get adb setup. A little googling of the "mount" command and/or adb should get you there.

Thanx for the info. I installed adb and got it working with my Nook now. Remounting the /system was easy after i searched for the command to use.

FWIW Root Explorer works great. Best four bucks I've spent so far for Market progs.

I agree, best $4 I spent too. I got the Amazon App Store installed using it, also Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio.

Hey i'm having trouble with something similar. A real challenge though, as I have 1) no non-adhoc wireless network 2) no genuine nook cable so ADB is not an option. I need to get access to the file system so I can apply the Ad-hoc fix, but I can't find any way to do so without a file manager, and I can't find a way to install an apk without ADB or market. (i'm running 1.2 rooted) Any genius ideas would be much appreciated!

Search "SU File Manager & Terminal" on Android Market. It's the best app working till now. It has "Mount System/Data RW" option, makes it easier to mount the partitions as RW without executing any commands and copy the APKs from SD card to any System or Data partitions.
It has quick option to mount the partitions as RO.

Do you have any microUSB cable that you can connect to a computer with? You don't need the genuine cable... if you don't have market, and can't install any apks via terminal/connectbot or ADB, then i'm not sure what you can do...
edit: maybe you could dual boot CWM and go through that to install files?

Thanks for the reply. I've tried a micro USB cable but it didn't seem to recognize the NC, and in 1.2 there was no notification that USB was connected. Perhaps I have something wrong with my USB port? Also, I don't really know how I would install files through CWM; I have it on SD, which is how I've been making changes. Could you point me in the right direction on that?

Those using Root Explorer, I'm running CM7 from an SD card using verygreen's method, but don't have any SD reader other than the NC, so I can't install gapps/market. I have sideloaded Root Explorer, but can't find anywhere to drop the gapps...zip where it will install on a recovery boot. I don't even have a way to format my one-and-only SD card to attempt a root of the stock OS and get more functionality out of CWM.
I don't mean to thread-hijack, but it seems quite related, and I can't post in the dev forum yet.

The specific package is gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip, for CM7 7.0.2. I have the file, and normally you would use a PC to drop it in the SD card's boot partition, but like I said, the only means I have of getting at the SD is over USB to the Nook, and I can't access the boot partition that way. I'm wondering if I can reach the boot partition via Root Explorer, or is it totally off limits while CM7 is running off the SD?

yeah, i haven't played any with CWM / sdcard boots, so i'm no help. sorry...
as for the micro USB cable and such - i'm using a generic one, which is working. is it not even reading as a storage device? have you tried removing and reinstalling the drivers? do you have nook color tools installed so that you can toggle 'debugging'?

I'll try to clarify:
1) Running CM7.0.2 from SD, will the SD card's boot partition be visible in Root Explorer?
2) If so, in what specific directory do I need to place the zip file for the system to recognize and install it on a recovery boot?
Perhaps I'll start a more specific thread on the matter. If I end up having to get a card reader, so be it, but I've overspent my gadget allowance for at least a week or two, so I'm trying to get as far as possible with what I have. I do have the Amazon app store set up, and even minus the Google market, CM7 is preferable to stock.

In case anyone is interested, I found a simple solution: CMW. Verygreen's SD-install allows you to flash CMW to the Nook's eMMC without affecting the stock OS, and from CMW you can mount the SD card with USB plugged in and Windows will see the boot partition. I initially wanted to get CMW on the NC without rooting, anyway, so things worked out perfectly

That's a terrible idea. Installing CMW to the NC internal memory wipes the nooks built-in recovery. Getting CMW on an sd card is very simple, more functional, and can even be installed alongside verygreen's setup.

Any elaboration on why it's a terrible idea to replace the NC's built-in recovery with something more full-featured? It's advised or assumed in pretty much any dev thread for writing any ROM to eMMC, except most of them say "root first," which appears unnecessary. I did think I'd wiped the stock OS at first, but basically decided to deal with it later and finished installing gapps, after which the stock OS suddenly reappeared. It was perplexing, but after some more fiddling, I puzzled out the boot behavior and it is consistent:
1) power on with SD card inserted, and I get CM7.0.2.
2) hold home key and power on with SD card inserted, and ROM Manager will check for new ROMs/zips.
3) power on with SD card ejected (not necessarily removed) and I get stock 1.2.
4) hold home key and power on with SD card ejected, and I get CWM
I'm new to all of this, so I welcome feedback, but "It's bad, mmkay?" doesn't go far. Will having CWM in place of "factory mode" cause instability? Would a CWM install on the SD allow me to mount the SD boot part to USB? Why do we all keep wanting to write it "CMW?"

It's actually kind of a pet peeve of mine, along with the root first mentality you mentioned.
It won't cause instability, but it locks you out of doing a factory reset, and can lock you into recovery mode.
If things go wrong, you can't reset your device, can't get out of a bootcount induced bootloop, can't (in theory) take it in for warranty, etc.
Honestly it's the easiest thing in the world to switch between the two, or just fix the problems from cwm--if you know what you are doing. BUT!
I really can't count how many threads I've seen with people who've installed clockworkmod and have run into issues and have absolutely no idea what to do. They are just screwed and pissed off (rightly so) because they read somewhere that they needed CWM. Which they didn't. And now none of the howtos for fixing it work because they just have CWM, not the stock recovery mode...
And really there is no reason whatsoever to do this to begin with. I mean in order to get CWM on your nook, you have to have a spare sd card, and you have to know how to burn an image. So why not just make an sd with CWM and save the headache, keep the builtin functionality, not worry about getting locked into recovery mode, and still have all the benefits of CWM?
Maybe i should do a writeup howto on how to add CWM to the size-agnostic cards....

Would CWM's "factory reset" option only wipe the data in the stock OS, then, and not restore the old recovery? I see where you're coming from--obviously there's value in keeping idiotproof recovery on the table, and why risk your warranty if you're running from external media anyway? But again, the original problem that CWM solved for me was getting the gapps package into the SD card's boot partition. I had 1 card and 0 card readers at my disposal. Would CWM have been able to mount the SD card's boot partition if it were installed to the card itself?
I would definitely be interested to learn how to integrate CWM into one of verygreen's "size-agnostic" cards, especially if it would still be able to mount the CM7 boot partition over USB. As is, Flash CWM installs on eMMC by default, and the Boot to Recovery commands within CM7 don't work from SD--they just reboot.

[Q] SD Somehow transferred cyanogenmod to Nook Color

I've tried to do a search for this but can't find it. I'm such a complete novice I may have run across it and not even known I did. I tried to make a bootable SD to be able to use the google app store. I've seen so many instructions now I don't even know where the first one I used is. I think I used CM7 (my Nook Color is version 1.4.1...don't know if that matters). So far, nothing I've done has added the shopping cart but first things first.
Evidently I must have really screwed things up because the cyanogenmod is now on my nook instead of the SD card (which explains why I had so many problems when I tried to redo it). The first thread I found doing a google search was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720&highlight=restore+to+stock.
After reading through it on the last page someone posted that it was a very old thread and to go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25354258#post25354258 and go down to 15A. But, having the technical skills of a pencil eraser, I can't even figure out which software to download, let alone how to accomplish the restoration. I actually managed to jailbreak my iphone but that was just a matter of downloading software and running it. This doesn't appear to be as simple.
I did manage to find all the files required by the first thread to do the restore, but then I got to this: Select "Restore virtual hard disk image" from the "Disk" menu. My winimage doesn't say that. I am using a new SD card so perhaps that's why. It's at that point that I read all the way through the thread to discover that method? or the firmware? was obsolete.
All I really want is to know which file(s) to download and, if possible, a link to instructions a 5 year old could follow. If I knew a 6th grader I'd just ask them because I'm pretty sure this is hard wired into their DNA. I'm 53 so that's probably half my problem. I can usually figure these things out but this has me completely stumped.

You probably used ROM Manager and told it to install CWM and update to a new ROM. The problem is, ROM Manager only works on internal memory installations, not SD installations, so it installed CM to internal memory.
Don't use that old thread to flash stock back on to internal memory, even if you did find the files.
And age is not an excuse for not learning, I'm 68.
Go to my thread referenced above and download the stock 1.4.3 zip file from A15. It is linked in the text of A15.
Make a bootable CWM SD. Use that to flash the stock ROM. Download the file CWM-6.0.1.2-bootable_SD.zip and extract it somewhere on your PC. You should end up with approximately a 300MB .img file. Burn that image to your SD using Win32diskimager per the directions quoted here:
To use Win32DiskImager, find it on the web (here, it's free) and install it on your Windows PC. Open it (be sure to run it as administrator) and select the drive (device) that has your card reader with your SD inserted. Then in the image file box put the location where you have the extracted img file. Then when everything is set right, click on the write button. A warning will pop up asking if you want to proceed. When you have verified that you are going to write to the correct device, click on Yes. (One user overwrote their external USB hard drive by not verifying first). If you get an error message about access denied, it means you are looking at the drive with Windows Explorer. Close Windows Explorer and try again. In fact, it is a good idea to close all unnecessary windows when burning, even your browser.

Once the SD is burned, temporarily remove the SD from the PC and then reinsert in your PC. Then copy the Stock zip you downloaded earlier to the SD. Insert the SD into your Nook and boot. Once CWM appears, use the volume up/down keys to move the cursor and highlight "Install zip from SD". Then use the n key to activate it. Select the zip you copied to the SD. Go ahead and flash it.
When it is complete, take the SD out and boot. It should boot to stock.

I think I've probably confused myself by reading too much on too many websites and it takes me a little while to figure out technical things. I do appreciate the help. I probably just need to take some deep breaths and clear my brain so I can start over. I just want to make sure I don't really mess it up to the point it's completely unrepairable.

Notice I changed which CWM you should download. Use 6.0.1.2, it works better for stock.

Sorry to be a bother, I don't know whether this is related. Everything loaded perfectly and it looks just as it did when I first turned it on but now every time I try to use the keyboard, it pops up for probably less than a second and then goes back down. I've tried to "catch" it to see if I could get a letter/digit each time to try and put in but it just goes up and down, up and down. I tried doing the set up with the boot disk in because I know nook reads the sd card first but that didn't help.
However, the version I originally had on the nook color was 1.4.1. Would it make a difference if I used the 1.4.3 instead?

Did you follow the instructions in the thread where you were supposed to flash a format zip? I forgot to add that in the above instructions. It is not to late to do it. Boot to CWM and flash the format zip and boot back to stock and re-register again. That may be the cause of the keyboard problem.
And being 1.4.3 should make no difference.

Yes. Installed that as well. However, I did notice when I put the sd card in my computer a few times windows said "disk might be corrupt do you want to continue?" So that might be the problem. I'll go into town tomorrow and get a new one to see if that makes a difference.

Well, I got a new SD card and it's still doing the same thing, the keyboard just goes up and down, up and down so I don't know what to do now.

Did you ever get it fixed? I did (probably) the exact same thing as you did (installed flashable ROM in eMMC), and it took me hours to get it straightened out
Although I can't say for sure... since I wasn't really taking notes with what I was trying... I think what eventually got me going was using a different bootable (step 1), b/c my microsd card was an off brand (lexar 8gb).
What I did was...
1) made bootable SD card with [generic-sdcard-v1.3-CM7-9-10-larger-Rev5.zip] rather than "so&so size gb card CWR.img"
2) added [nookcolor_1_4_3_signed.zip]
Before I got it to work properly, I had various types of failures-
stuck at "n" screen,
wifi wouldnt work (so I didnt get past nook first start-up process),
appeared to work ok but screen would flash all the time (your keyboard problem)
Eventually I got it sorted, and through all this trial and error, was able to properly put CM10 on sd card whilst leaving nook "original". Lol.
*I'm a newbie at this stuff so please make corrections if I jacked my post up! This was a few days ago and I'm at work... so I can't reference my home 'puter

Steps I took to get KitKat on my New Nook HD+

Bought a brand new Nook HD+ with the intention of using it as an inexpensive tablet in my kitchen, primarily to access the web and run cooking apps. Out of the box, I found it laggy and unresponsive to the point of being unusable.
I have some experience rooting/jailbreaking my phones, very little experience with tablets. I was eager to get KitKat on the device right away—it has proven to be so much better on my phone, much better battery life, much more responsive, less buggy, more fluid, etc. Problem is, KitKat is bleeding edge, and there are no official builds, and most of the install guides for dummies (=me) refer to earlier (JB) versions of Android.
It turned out to be quite time consuming to read all of the different versions of the install process, and to patch together a process that worked. I thought I would document what I did, in order to (possibly) save others some of the time that I invested.
Note: this process does NOT install KitKat to the SD card. In plain English, these steps install a bootable recovery image onto a micro sd card. Booting into the micro-sd recovery will allow you to wipe stock from your device and install kit-kat, google apps and an internal recovery. When you are finished, you remove the micro-SD and you have an Android tablet that boots into kitkat. If you want something different stop reading!
1) get a class 4 micro SD (class 4 seems to be the one that boots most reliably in the Nook HD+ (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2288688&page=12 )
2) Download win32diskimager (http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/?source=directory ) and this bootable CWM recovery image (http://nook.rootshell.ru/hd/emmc-cwm-early3.img.gz ).
3) Extract the CWM recovery image, and use win32diskimager to write the image to the micro sd.
4) Download EMMC (internal) recovery image and latest CM11 EMMC from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600572) . You want “Ovation Recovery Image (CWM)” and “cm-11-xxxxxxx-UNOFFICIAL-ovation-emmc.zip.” All recoveries and roms for this device are called Ovation. Download Paranoid Android Google Apps from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942 ). MAKE SURE the version you download is for Android 4.4.x. It will say 4.4.x in the file name. I chose the Google Stock Package. (PA-Google Apps will allow you to enable ART if you want to.)
5) Turn on the Nook HD+, register it, and download all the system/firmware updates until the Google Play Store installs on your device (Google Play and Gmail etc. just recently got added to the Nook, so probably aren’t installed out of the box).
6) Transfer the three zip files (recovery image, CM11 and PA Gapps) you downloaded in step 4 onto the internal sdcard of the Nook itself. (This step is IMPORTANT: the current bootable version of CWM can ONLY read files on the internal SD, so you won’t be able to flash any roms or apps or recoveries unless they are actually on the device) I was unable to use the USB cable to transfer the files directly to the Nook from my computer—others have also had trouble getting Windows to recognize the Nook HD+ properly— and I didn’t want to spend a lot of time figuring it out, so I used the micro sd card as follows. If you can transfer directly from the computer, skip to step 7.
6a) Copy the new internal recovery, new system image and PA Google Apps from your computer to the micro SD card. Eject micro SD from computer.
6b) On the Nook, use Play Store to install a file explorer. I use Root Explorer: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en . You don’t need root to copy files from external to internal SD (and you don’t have root at the moment) so you can download any file explorer you like.
6c) Insert micro SD in the Nook while the Nook is still booted/on. The nook will flash a message saying that it’s mounting the SD card. Once it does, use the file explorer to copy all zip files downloaded in step 4 from the EXTERNAL to the INTERNAL SD. The internal SD card is referred to as “sdcard” or “sdcard0” and the external SD as “ext_sdcard” or “sdcard1”.
7)Turn off nook.
8) Insert micro SD card if it isn’t in already, and turn on the device. You should see the "Nook" logo, which gets overwritten by the "cyanoboot" logo. Keep waiting. It will eventually go into CWM. If it doesn’t, go back and start reading through the thread referenced in step 1. With any luck, you won’t have trouble. I had boatloads of trouble booting from the SD card until I got a class 4 micro SD, and used the bootable image linked in step 2. Since then I can boot every time.
9) Use CWM to backup stock rom, then wipe data/factory reset. (Very good instructions on using CWM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500 ) Flash the internal recovery. Flash the CM11 Rom. Flash PA Google apps. Remove micro SD. Select “Reboot System now”.
10) When you reboot, go to Settings/About tablet/Build number. Tap on that seven times to enable developer options. Go to Settings/Developer Options and select Advanced Reboot which allows rebooting into recovery from the power button.
11) OPTIONAL: Enable ART. ART is not compatible with all applications, so you might experience problems. You can see which applications work and don’t work here: http://www.androidruntime.com/. Enabling it made a very big difference for me in terms of smoothness; others with more experience seem to achieve similar, or better effects by modding with xposed, gravitybox, etc. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579945&highlight=change+and+resolution&page=24) To read more about ART and what it does see: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...-in-secret-for-over-2-years-debuts-in-kitkat/. If you decide to give it a try: Settings/Developer Options/ Select Runtime/Use ART.
12) Reboot—this time will take a while because ART (if you enable it) has to reconfigure itself.
For me, the difference is night and day. I now have a tablet that runs beautifully. Many many thanks to the hard working developers who make this possible, especially Verygreen, who provided the rom and recovery, and e.mote who wrote the "for dummies" thread that helped this dummy make it through the process.
Please comment and change anything that I have garbled. My goal is to consolidate information, not mangle it!

Hi I installed the same rom over Carbon rom. I went to format my sd card and every time iI tried the Nook would reboot. I went into CWM recovery and formatted it from there but I think it formatted the internal sdcard, Could someone check this out for me as this is my first post I cant post on the developer forum. Not sure what you exactly what you mean, but it sounds like you were trying to format your external SD card from inside your nook? If you write the CWM bootable image to your external SD using Win32Diskmanager you don't need to format it. Writing the image will erase everything already on the external sdcard. You should be able to boot from it and install the zips. Is your problem that you can't boot from the external SD, or that you erased the zips from your internal sdcard?
Go back and read over verygreen's thread referenced in step 4-- I think he may have posted an updated version of CWM that can read the external sd card. Otherwise:
Did you make a backup of your carbon rom install? If so, you could write a bootable (earlier) version of cwm to the external sdcard, copy your backup to the sdcard and restore it, and then start over. (or not, as some people seem to think Carbon rom is just as good-- I never tried it) The thread in step 9 has great instructions that might help with that.

Sorry I didn't explain very well, I installed verygreens KK rom succesfully and wanted to do a backup of it. I put in a SD card and thought I would format it as it had some old junk on there. When I tried to format through the settings section the tablet would just reboot. So I booted into evergreens CWM recovery and tried through there, it formatted something but my external card cannot be read. And some of my settings have been lost, some time ago I used 4. Swapping "sdcard" and "ext_sdcard" from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613. So I think that may be my problem. I have back ups so no problem.

Ah! I thought from your first post that you were quite new to this process, but clearly you are ahead of me on this one. Good luck.

Update: installed the latest build which has the touch screen patch. It's PHENOMENAL. Truthfully, the only thing I need this tablet for is using a website that involves a lot of dragging and dropping. I had to train myself not to accidentally zoom and/or copy. No more! I haven't even enabled ART this time because it's working so well. I would have posted on Verygreen's thread to thank but don't have enough posts.

Great tutorial.
I would suggest around your step 9, after you have made a backup with CWM, before you wipe data/factory reset:
Remove microSD. Reboot into stock Nook and connect to computer. Copy off the backup from clockworkmod folder to your computer. Then boot again with the microSD, and proceed to wipe and flash.
Otherwise, the backup may get wiped.

You must get the nook for android app from someplace other than Play Store, like 1mobile.com.

I got everything running, but my HD+ is running extremely laggy. I did a full wipe, but my internal SD card is still a little over 7 gigs full. Is there something else I missed? The Nook reader is particularly slow.

Yes, a full wipe (factory reset) did not remove your previous media files. To do so you need to boot to CWM and go to mounts and storage and format 'data and datamedia'. That clears out previous files and should improve performance.

no if it successfully flashed last time, you just need to reset-up your accounts and install apps again.
