Hi all
As i'm sure you all may be aware, RIM (Blackberry) have a service that they provide whereby each handset has a PIN number, unique to the device, and this can be used with their software to send messages between blackberry devices if you know the persons Personal Identification Number, this service works over the DATA service
So,
I was wondering if, some developer of WM could perhaps design a piece of software which will do the following:
A central database of people's 'username/PIN' (to ensure that everyone has a unique number)
a program to interface with this service which will effectively act similar to email, but directly to the persons handset
the software will allow the user to input a Username/PIN and a message which would be sent over the DATA/GPRS/HSDPA to gain access to the internet and send the message to the central server/service and relay that to the recipient.
Is something like this possible at all or am i just dreaming and should just go and buy a blackberry instead?!
many thanks!
I think this would be just a pipe dream mate. RIM have the money to invest in the central DB servers required to keep track of all the devices out there. I have a Touch Pro, but also keep my BB for messaging the missus. Bandwidth contraints will more than likely never get this off the ground apart from at the manufacturer level
aside from that, rim continues that madness because its the only consumer like anything they have in their messaging services. What happens when you lose your device? swap a warranty exchange? you guessed it...new pin. What does that mean? no way to get all your friends back...besides email them to ask them for their pin? hmmmmm....that sounds kind of retarded.
pin is a very primitive IM system. let it die a horrible death my friend

LOL!!
I guess I have never even added someone by their PIN anyway, only by their email address (BTW I only have my fiance and my sister as meesenger buddies anyway ) I mean, I have skype, MSN push email, IMAP email etc on my TP, why do I need anything else??
I thought this was a great idea initially but since using BBM and now back to Win Mo, I think that BBM is over-rated.
What can BBM do that other chat clients can't? I use MSN and GTalk to keep in contact with friends and they work so much better than BBM.
I know it has encryption but is that really important?
PIN
I had a BB years ago long before converged devices. i still say the PIN is excellent. PINs are guaranteed delivery. and you know when someone got your pin because you got the D notice on your sent pin message.
I agree that trying to get someone's PIN if you replace your device is a pain in the rear but the system does have it's advantages.
sms is still pretty unreliable. good chance if you don't have signal when it gets sent you are not getting it but with PIN when it was back in signal you got the PIN.
I hate the did you get my text question. with pin thhere is no question. if you got the d they got your message.
jmo
surely someone ought to be able to do something around this,
what if, anyone who wished to make use of this service actually purchased up an old blackberry (which had a valid PIN) and somehow, on our wm devices, this PIN was spoofed and made the blackberry pin service think that our wonderful WM devices were in fact the Blackberry which has that corresponding pin?

Just hold out for the Blackberry Virtualization Suite... It's coming... Then you'll have your precious BBM on your TouchPro 3
(I mean at the rate RIM is going with releasing it, that seems like a reasonable milestone.)
It's proprietary technology, "Spoofing" in just about any sense isn't exactly legal. So have fun finding someone here that's going to try to dupe the BB servers into thinking a WM phone is a Blackberry device, especially when you risk making PINs collide if two join the network at the same time... Not easy and certainly won't be legal. It's like cloning IMEI's...
aaaah fair enough
but i heard that you wont be able to get pin messaging on the virtualisation suite?

I didn't hear that, but I didn't hear it specifically would either. So I guess it's still up in the air, I haven't seen any of the specs regarding it, but taking into consideration that there isn't much of a purpose aside from BBM and the Push email, I don't know why they would bother creating a Suite of just BB OS. I'd imagine it should be a clone of a BB with an individual PIN.

well i lent my friend my mda while i was in class and i guess he was trying to get onto the internet, he accidentally deleted the data connection. when he meant to tap connect.
How do i get it back? all help is appreciated
it is a t-mobile data connection. thanks
anyone??? i really need help with this i have no clue as to how to get it back
Just call your phone provider and they will talk you through adding it again.
so thats the only possible way to get back my connection???
What provider? Cingular or T-Mobile?
im with t-mobile i really want this connection back. im paying for the total internet package and cant use it.
i would call but the account is not under my name. so when i call i dont really remember the personal info such as ss# etc.
Hopefully your account is legal as it doesn't sound normal that you would have a paying account, but no access to customer service (as you have to know who's name it is under i would presume).
I'll help this time, but this really sounds like your using a hot phone...
If you're using T-Mobile US then follow the instructions here: http://tmobileusotw.wdsglobal.com/
oh. nahh im using a good phone, its not a hot phone, its jus that my mother put it under her name for me but me and her had a major argument AFTER the connection was deleted and i didnt really wanna ask her anything.
trust me the phone aint stolen.
thanks for the link though

Well don't be so quick to assume. T-Mobile will ask for ssn or security question. You can't do anything even if you have the contractor's name. But support will give the link without needing any of that.

I was assuming simply because it would seem strange to me that he would have an active phone and not know the person's information who's it is under. If he did i would assume calling them up and saying "Hey i need you to be on the line while i call T-Mobile" wouldn't be unrealistic. His reason is one i can understand, but that wasn't given prior to my response and was why i reasoned that way.
Sorry if i offended anyone.
Did the link fix your problem?
Is it possible to get Blackberry connect to work? I used it on my Tilt and this is the only thing I miss with this Treo Pro...I cannot use Exchange as our company uses Blackberry, BES....I have tried all the downloads from SEMS.org and tried changing the AKU to .0.4.2 or .0.1.2 like I did with my tilt and nothing has worked, I still cannot get a pin. I also tried changing the device name to the same as the tilt but still no joy...
How does the Blackberry Server know that I am not using a TILT? and is there a way to trick it into thinking I am so I can get a PIN and get up and running.
Anyone?

it would be great if we get it worked on our treos.
I don't understand why it works on some phones and not others, if you have a computer with Windows as long as the specs can support them you should be able to run the same software on different computers no mater the manufactuer.
Has any one tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368181
I tried...doesn't work with any BBC downloads on sems.org...it just awaits the PIN...
I also tried changing the AKU like I did on my Kaiser...still no joy....
Hopefully someone smarter than me will get this worked out...I have since bought a FUZE because it supports BBConnect but I like the Pro so much more...
$50 Bounty!
I'll put up $50 bucks if someone can get BB Connect working on my Pro.
My company just found me out and shut down my ActiveSync...so now it is get a company provided BB Bold or get BB Connect to work. I'd much rather the second option!!

I have the same problem...which why I am using a fuze now...but I have not sold my Treo Pro and would go back in a heartbeat! You may want to try Emoze as an alternative but it is a little buggy and nowhere near as good as BB connect.
Bump
Bumping, should I raise the bounty?
Tried CompanionLink software for your BB & other syncing?

Well. I had a Treo 680 (Palm OS) and could e-mail one way (from the phone). Now with the Palm Treo Pro (WM 6.1), I have set it up for two way e-mail and calendaring. Stick with me...there MAY be a solution for the BB to work here. (My company does not have Microsoft Exchange either.) Anyway, if you set up a Gmail account, you can then (use their directions) get some e-mail coordinated/synced between your company e-mail (if you have access to your company e-mail through the Internet) and Gmail. Now here's the weird part. You can go to CompanionLink.com and try out their software for 15 days. If you like it, pay. Here is the link:
http://www.companionlink.com/products/companionlink.html
More specifically to BB, here is a link:
http://www.companionlink.com/products/companionlinkforgoogle.html
As you can see, the CompanionLink software is almost $30, but it works (after some tweeking) with my Groupwise company e-mail and calendar.
Did I win? If I did, deduct the $30 for the software, and I'll call it even!

Hi, using Rhodium with SetModelID running on it and "making" my phone model Raphael. I then use BBConnect to get work emails, since the company uses BES. Works well so far. However IT department contacted me "worried" that I use unauthorised device. They see that I use HTC device and BBConnect application instead or real BB device. This does not bother me, but knowing IT department fear to whatever they do not understand or can not completely control, I have few questions:
1. Is there any way I can hide my model, and software I use? So that on Server they would see their joy and pride BB device?
2. Should that be not possible and in case they would dare to cut me off the email access due to "unauthorised device use", I would like to argue the case Do you know if risk, workload or anything else to the server increases once HTC+BBConnect is used instead of BB device? This would help me to understand if they have a logical concern about HTC on BES or if it is only their usual fear of unknown...
Does that mean there is no way to hide model, so that on server side it would be seen as BB phone?
Ok, so here is my dilemma. I guess I should have read more before buying this phone, but I guess some things you just learn with time.
I LOVE this phone , but due to t-mobile's stupid restrictions I would have to return it. I would rather sell it than wait days for Dell to refund me my money.
I bought the 16GB version off contract and have the receipts and everything it came with.
Everything is still wrapped up and never opened.
The only thing that was removed was the phone and battery. The Keyboard is still covered in plastic.
Now my story: I bought the phone because I was planning to give WP7 a try with the most anticipated phone of the year. And when I had it, I was going to use the line as my main buisness line with my Google Voice. Come to find out, I cannot foward my voicemail to google voice because Flexpay or Even More PLus accounts have that disabled. I called Technical support and begged , they refused. So, at this point the phone has no use to me and I don't want a 2 year contract. I Know it is crazy to sell a phone for something that little. But I have 2 phones on my google voice, and when it forards the voicemail from my first phone, it rings my Dell Venue Pro phone instead of going to voicemail, hence a loop. And I do not want T-Mobile handling my VM. I want both numbers to be independent of each other.
Not to bore anyone.
I am selling the phone Brand New as it came. All I Want is the $499 OR BEST OFFER. I don't care for the tax.
Price includes shipping. Pretty much my loss here.
For those in Houston, TX or Katy, TX you can meet me and pick it up.
Please text or PM me. 832-413-3951. First come, First Serve.
Or let me know what you think.
Thanks.
SOLD!!!! Thanks to all those who contacted me. Appreciate the business.

Maybe I don't *fully* understand what you're saying, but there is a switch in Google Voice that says, "When forwarded from XXX number, send to GV VM."
I use this switch to allow my GV number to ring to my DVP, but if I forward it back (decline the call, etc), it forwards back to GV, and GV knows to send it to VM - not loop...
Is this what you're trying to do?

Let me explain a little more.
I have a google voice number GG, and I have my regular cell CC ( setup with google Voicemail), and now Flexpay FP ( does not support google voicemail forwarding).
When someone calls my regular # CC, it rings and if I don't pick up, it should send it to google voicemail. But that does not happen, it sends it to my FP number and rings it and ends up sending the call to my Regular T-mobile Voicemail. I don't want that to happen. I want the calls made to my cell, if not answered to be sent to GVoicemail as setup, not forwarded to my other number. I have disabled this with no luck.
And I understand why it is like this and it sucks. See, when calls are being forwarded to google voicemail, it is treated like a regular call dialing GG. And I have set all calls made to GG to be sent to my FP. So, that must be the issue, and since FP does not support GG Voicemail forwarding, it is sent to my regular t-mobile VM.
If you know a work around, I would love to keep my phone , and where can I find this switch in google voice you are taking about?

I dont understand why you couldnt just send it back to dell. its only obvious at this point you're trying to pull some strings.
i think i know what you're up to.

Believe me , I am pulling no strings. Just that it would have taken a while for Dell to refund me the money. But its easier if I just get the cash or a paypal transfer from someone
Is it available ?
If yes, Check pm pls
If no delete it.

Just purchased a Huawei Watch 3. I'd already read up on the single provider in France (my country of residence) that supplies an eSIM for this watch.
However, it's not quite straightforward. Am thinking my "issue" is to do with the installed OS (Harmony OS 2.0) or the "health app" on my phone. I'll explain:
Best value SIM package I have is from a local supermarket chain, much like e.g. using Tesco in UK as a phone provider. In my case it's Reglo Mobile. I happen to know (it's hardly secret) that since Reglo Mobile have no infrastructure or network of their own, they have some leasing arrangement with SFR, and simply brand their SIM packages accordingly. All of their voice, data and SMS goes via the SFR network.
SFR are the single provider recommended by Huawei. But their data and call packages are more than double the cost.
I currently have two eSIMs waiting for activation on my watch: one from Reglo Mobile, and one from SFR. The thing is that BOTH of these eSIM connections use the EXACT SAME carrier address and details - they are IDENTICAL - because, of course, both Reglo Mobile and SFR are the same thing under the skin.
Yet trying to proceed via the health app to "activate eSIM" just automatically opens a login page at SFR. For other reasons (entirely irrelevant here) I haven't been able to continue, but my question is this: surely it's now just something embedded in Harmony and/or the health app that is forcing me to log in via SFR? I have full account at Reglo Mobile, but am not given any option via the app or the watch... but were I able to, I know that I could activate this eSIM (my preference) because it is basically the same thing.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a workaround? Would I be mad to consider rooting a brand new watch? Could I brick it? Anything else I should consider (I may just return the watch and give up completely).
Hi,
I also own this watch, and I am also from France.
I found out after I bought it that ESIM is not compatible with my network (Orange/Sosh).
I was told it's only compatible with SFR but I found very little information, so I wasn't confident enough to move there and I gave up on ESIM.
I understand you want to hack it to make it work with another network?
It's a very nice watch but I am disappointed by the support/updates so far.

Candas

I understand your frustration. To be fair to Huawei, they did put extensive documentation online, and in that documentation made clear that presently, the only provider that the watch works with is SFR. So I understood that part at least.
Where things got decidedly annoying were:
I went into local SFR and spoke with them. I returned with the watch. They were helpful, and aware of the watch, and I was able to purchase an eSIM account from them. Let's leave aside for a moment the HUGE extra costs this incurs.
I went home, ready to at least test out the eSIM capability, understanding that of course it would be on a new random number. I can deal with that later. First hurdle is... the store set the new eSIM number as the contact number, while mis-spelling my email address. So, in order to confirm my new account at SFR... there was no way to receive any confirmation!
I return to the store, they correct the issue. I wait a few hours and try again. Success! So now, expecting everything to be right, I open the watch, go to the "activate eSIM" bit and which then directs my health app to sign in at SFR. I do so, only to be met by a message telling me that since I don't have a physical SFR SIM in my phone, the eSIM won't work!!
Costs: my current provider, who I think I mentioned above, actually contracts their own packages via the SFR network and infrastructure (!!!) but doesn't qualify as a partner with Huawei?? Currently I pay 5,99 p/m for all calls and texts, plus 100Gb. SFR want 17,00 p/m for calls, text and 5Gb! To purchase what I have now via them would cost me seven times what I currently pay!
Well done Huawei. Thanks. Really useful device you've made.
To date it's not actually clear that the watch eSIM would even work, were I to transfer my number to SFR and be gouged on price (I won't). Further, it's not clear whether once it might work, the watch could make or receive calls outside of bluetooth range of my phone - which renders the entire idea a bit pointless.
Since the US banned Huawei, this watch isn't really "Android compatible" in any meaningful way. IIRC Harmony OS is Huawei's in house attempt to reproduce all the good stuff Google can do for us, but can't because of lawyers. Although I'm in France, and fortunately here they don't suck up to US like gods but tend to think independently, there's clearly no new agreements in place, so the watch doesn't really do much beyond notify me. It doesn't, as such, really run any Android apps.
I agree that the fitness and health monitoring side of it looks impressive. Thing is, I'm so pissed off with the watch that I've worn it once since purchase, and recently responded to Huawei's invitation to "complete a short survey" by telling them I'll probably just chuck their brand new watch in the bin, because it's basically useless if extremely impressive as technology.
