Blackberry Connect, is it possible? - Palm Treo Pro

Is it possible to get Blackberry connect to work? I used it on my Tilt and this is the only thing I miss with this Treo Pro...I cannot use Exchange as our company uses Blackberry, BES....I have tried all the downloads from SEMS.org and tried changing the AKU to .0.4.2 or .0.1.2 like I did with my tilt and nothing has worked, I still cannot get a pin. I also tried changing the device name to the same as the tilt but still no joy...
How does the Blackberry Server know that I am not using a TILT? and is there a way to trick it into thinking I am so I can get a PIN and get up and running.
Anyone?

it would be great if we get it worked on our treos.

I don't understand why it works on some phones and not others, if you have a computer with Windows as long as the specs can support them you should be able to run the same software on different computers no mater the manufactuer.

Has any one tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368181

I tried...doesn't work with any BBC downloads on sems.org...it just awaits the PIN...
I also tried changing the AKU like I did on my Kaiser...still no joy....
Hopefully someone smarter than me will get this worked out...I have since bought a FUZE because it supports BBConnect but I like the Pro so much more...

$50 Bounty!
I'll put up $50 bucks if someone can get BB Connect working on my Pro.
My company just found me out and shut down my ActiveSync...so now it is get a company provided BB Bold or get BB Connect to work. I'd much rather the second option!!

I have the same problem...which why I am using a fuze now...but I have not sold my Treo Pro and would go back in a heartbeat! You may want to try Emoze as an alternative but it is a little buggy and nowhere near as good as BB connect.

Bump
Bumping, should I raise the bounty?

Tried CompanionLink software for your BB & other syncing?

Well. I had a Treo 680 (Palm OS) and could e-mail one way (from the phone). Now with the Palm Treo Pro (WM 6.1), I have set it up for two way e-mail and calendaring. Stick with me...there MAY be a solution for the BB to work here. (My company does not have Microsoft Exchange either.) Anyway, if you set up a Gmail account, you can then (use their directions) get some e-mail coordinated/synced between your company e-mail (if you have access to your company e-mail through the Internet) and Gmail. Now here's the weird part. You can go to CompanionLink.com and try out their software for 15 days. If you like it, pay. Here is the link:
http://www.companionlink.com/products/companionlink.html
More specifically to BB, here is a link:
http://www.companionlink.com/products/companionlinkforgoogle.html
As you can see, the CompanionLink software is almost $30, but it works (after some tweeking) with my Groupwise company e-mail and calendar.
Did I win? If I did, deduct the $30 for the software, and I'll call it even!

HTC TyTN - Replace your blackberry!

I'll admit, I take a lot of good info from these boards and am usually far too busy to post. But this time I feel I have something great to share.
I bought a TyTN the other day...got here Wednesday. I was sick so I didn't start to play much with it until today.
Let me just set the tone here: I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET AROUND MY CORPORATE IT DEPARTMENT FOR YEARS. FIRST I GOT MY SPRINT TREO TO GET BLACKBERRY EMAILS, BUT NOT TRUE PUSH...THEN I GAVE UP FOR A WHILE AND USED A SPRINT 7250...but BB's are A WASTE, LESS FUNCTIONAL, and just a POOR CHOICE for today's mobile professional.
Now I have found today: The HTC TyTN can VERY EASILY be made into a corporate BES-connected Blackberry if you so desire, and conencted to YOUR CURRENT corporate BES account, without their intervention! I have done this with my Sprint 7250 BB account, and done it back and forth all day from T-mo to Cingular (Cingular wins out because of 3G of course...gotta have good slingbox when I can!)
All you need is a 'blackberry enabled SIM card' (really, just add the unlimited BES ENABLED (NOT THE "PERSONAL") blackberry plan to T-mo or Cingular) and a corporate BES account (that you haven't been able to touch for years, LOCKING you to a USELESS paperweight of a dumb-phone!) I know some others were lucky enough to have a Cingular SIM card in their corporate BB already and this wasn't a big deal. But I was not and I see many other are having trouble starting out with with non-Cingular blackberry devices. So check out how I ended up getting my way, finally after 4 years!
0) Insert (or go buy) a personal, non-blackberry-enabled Cingular (3G) SIM card. You should be able to surf for UMTS/HSDPA data and all that...
1) Install BBConnectr_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 on the HTC TyTN.
2) Install Activesync2.1.1.9 for mobile on the desktop.
3) Connect the HTC to the computer via USB, then open PC's Activesync 2.1.1.9. You will be asked if you want to change your PIN -- say YES! (you can always go back. Remember, it DOES NOT MATTER what service your BB is CURRENTLY through...we are going to make it through Cingular for you here in a second!)
4) Call Cingular and have them add the unlimited $49.95 blackberry plan, assumedly on top of your unlimited data plan. While I was willing to pay $145 a month to have everything in one device, just to spite my corporate IT department, here's the catch: They will come back and say you can't have both! Take the Unlimited blackberry plan (which will allow the PocketPC BB Connect software you installed to get through Cingular's network to "blackberry.net" So Instead of $40 for unlimited data, $10 more is getting my (and i have tested it) 3G data and blackberry.net access!
From there, you should be good like me.
I'm still figuring out the nuances, like how to minimize down-time after web surfing for BB connect to get back 'connected' again. I suspect in an all-3G area (in which i am NOT), this may not be an issue.
I have placed the updated, verified as working (on both T-mo and Cingular) versions of Activesync2.1.1.9 and BBConnect_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 in the "upload" directory of the web site. (as well as the 2.1 manual) That is /Hermes/Tools_and_Programs. Hopefully it gets moved over soon.
Keep on rocking everyone -- we are forging new capabilities together that make our lives easier, more fun, and more convenient!
Love and bruises,
Greg
It's your IT group that's at fault btw... I'm the technology guy for our IT group and we're getting rid of the BES and switching to direct push instead. Why? Tell your IT dept this: a BES places a 50% higher IO load on your Exchange server . This is because it must scan all blackberry enabled mailboxes every second or so looking for changes!
Now that devices like the Q have the MSFP, our execs have a nice alternative to their 8700s.
I've also installed LCS 2K5 with an Access Proxy and we are now all moving to Mobile Communicator for IM. This is a great little program that also gateways to AIM and Yahoo.
I believe IT should empower their users with technology, not be a bunch of Nazis.....

Could you please point out what is the difference between your uploads and the file here?

Thanks!

even though this doesnt belong in this forum i figured you guys would know. do cingular blackberrys (the 8700) work on the new 3g network? and can u install AIM (a version that does not use text messages)?
Just tested TyTN with BIS and BES solutions, all works fine!!!
Messages are coming through UMTS channel where UMTS signal is available!
When you get an email via BES, can you read the attachments though?
does it also wirelessly sync your calendar and contacts with BES?
I seem to have it all working but when I restart the tytn, the blackberry service doesn't connect. The config program says 'no connection' (although it was fine right after I installed) Has anyone else seen this and got round it?
Quick config question on BBConnect...
For all those that have this successfully working on a TyTN - did you have to tweak any connection settings on the PPC ?
I've installed BBConnect (2.1.2.16) onto the PPC and BBDesktop (2.1.1.18) onto the PC. Used Activesync and got all my calendar entries over. Now when I come to have the BBC connect wirelessly, it fails to connect and eventually goes into 'Suspended by User' state.
I played around and defined a connection called 'Blackberry' with all the settings 'blackberry.net, rim, password etc..) and can now actually get it to Connect successfully...
The issue now is that no email flows.... in fact nothing flows at all and I can't send a message as it indicates it's a 'malformed message'.
Any ideas ?
I've had Cingular confirm that my data account is set up for 'BlackBerry Connect Unlimited'...
I never had a blackberry before so I'm into new territory here...
Any advice on how to get this working ?
Cheers
Dave
Does anybody knows which is the correct cingular blackberry plan for USA??????
Since some of you appear to have gotten Blackberry Connect working with Cingular on a mobile device I'm hoping you can give me some useful information. I have the service in place from Cingular, and have the understanding that with Blackberry Connect from Cingular I need no other data plan from them. It will cover all of my other data services. This part seems to be working fine. What's not working is the Blackberry Connect software itself. It always gives me "Blocked - Radio In Use". I am wondering if it is because I have a connection set up for "MY ISP" based on Cingulars default installation. If it's supposed to be using Blackberry Connect for data, should I be deleting the MY ISP configuration? Could that be what's keeping the radio in use? I would assume the only thing using the radio should be the Blackberry Connect service since that's the only plan I have.
Help?
Thanks
I get a message that the program cannot determine the type of network and to ensure the radio is on when I try to run Blackberry Connect for Pocket PC on my unlocked HP hw6945. It installed fine from the hosted exe file.
My theory is that the problem is the program is looking for the phone's frequency/band settings in WM5. The HP hides these as it features an automatic band/frequency transition radio. Does anyone know how to unhide WM5's menu and settings for the phone band/frequency?
BTW I have a new 64k Cingular smartcard sim with Blackberry Connect service (verified working with my Blackberry 7100t unlocked).
Hi all !
Was anybody able to run BlackBerry Connect on Cingular 1.31 ROM ?
It was run without any problems for me on 1.34, but does not work on 1.31.
Anybody else with the same problem ?
Regards,
baudy2
I followed HTC TyTN - Replace your blackberry instructions and software installs fine on Cingular 8525. I received system book from BES, but after the 8525 connects, a few minutes latter the Blackberry goes to "Suspended by user" and email is never received. Does anything else need to be setup, ie a different connection in the network connections on the device?
Thanks

The Calendar and Contacts works fine!! You need to find the contacts....its the same of BBconnect for Nokia.
But you cant view all the attachments, only excel, word.....
Not read .jpg .mp3 and more.
HP6945 update
I happened to go overseas last week and while there and roaming on O2 I was able to get past the second screen and get the BB Connect to start. However, it would not generate the PIN (status: "pending"). Hoping that once past that obstacle once back on Cingular US I could get further, but no joy.
Right now I'm trying the Xpress Mail product which pushes and syncs calendar and email via a redirector; it seems to be finicky though.

HELP! Dash or MDA? Pocket Office on Dash? (for editing capabilities) Hack or Downloa

HELP! Dash or MDA? Pocket Office on Dash? (for editing capabilities) Hack or Download (or Doea the Hermes also work with T-Mobile???)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've talked to everyone when considering choosing between the MDA and the newer Dash?
Is it possible to get a free version of Pocket Office to put on the Dash so I can have the editing option for Microsoft Documents?
MDA or Dash? Which is more versitile, faster, and good for work & networking on the fly?
Does the MDA have WiFi like the Dash? for free wifi connections.
After too many T-Mobile reps, HTC reps, and other users...I'm exhausted with beating around the bush form the simple, and exact answers I'm looking for. You advice and expertise would truly be appreciated. Help! Thanks.
Ryan
Tough call, Ryan... both are great devices in their own rights. However, Dash is Smartphone platform and MDA is Pocket PC platform. Pocket PC is going to give you more functionality and customization. Smartphone is going to give you more convenience and smoother performance (assuming the ROM is stable and current).
Both MDA and Dash have Wi-Fi.
Based on your other questions and desires, I think Pocket PC platform is probably more what you're looking for.
Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback.
I have been leaning towards the MDA, but didn't want to take a step back in technology advantage, given that I'll have this phone for a while and I'll want to get the most from the device. OR Should I go with DASH in hope of getting an app to edit documents? Is there anytihng coming out soon, or where should i go to find out where to get it? Can I use either device with google's new word and excel editting, without being connected to a free wifi?
Are both devices able to use Skype?
The MDA glitches and complaints do worry me about dependability. Do you believe the MDA is stable, and is the HTC Hermes able to be used with T-Mobile?
The phone I have (Nokia 3660) just died (only shows Nokia when booting up, in a continuous loop). Therefore i have just lost 600 numbers which weren't sync to the new laptop i had ot buy because my old one was stolen 2 months ago. If you have any advice on retreaving these numbers let me know.
Also, do you recommend getting the MDA from T-Mobile for $250 or from eBay? or other cell phone sites you recommend for purchases?
Ryan
I am unsure of the Dash's abilities to edit documents. I believe that there are apps out there for the Smartphone platform that allow you to do it.
As far as Skype goes... minimum requirements to run Skype on a mobile device are 400mhz or higher processor and Wifi or 3G network. That pretty much leaves you with Hermes if you are wanting to go the route of the MDA line of devices. Yes the HTC Hermes can be used on T-Mobile.
The only advice I could offer for extracting your contacts from your old phone is to get it to an authorized Nokia repairman and have them get it out. If your phone can go into bootloader mode, you should be able to rescue the data.
I can't recommend one way or the other on where to buy your phone from other than saying that if you don't buy it from T-Mobile, check around on Ebay.
Savior Pete
Thanks again.
I'm glad your active on here today.
So are you saying the Dash is the only T-mobile provided phone that will work with Skype? I don't believe you can buy the Hermes from T-mobile (just the wizard) Unless you know otherwise.
I don't see a tremendous savings on eBay (maybe $50) which leads me to buy from T-mobile simply for the support and warrantees.
I will be checking back frequently. [email protected] if you like Thanks again.
No the Dash will NOT work with Skype, and neither will the MDA II aka Wizard. Sorry, I was thinking before that maybe you were in the UK where the MDA Vario II is available on T-Mobile... that is the Hermes. I think your only choice if you are definitely wanting to run Skype is to get a Hermes, probably off of E-bay. Just make sure you get it unlocked... most of them will be. Do searches for Tytn and Jasjam. The Jasjam will on average run you $100-200 more than the Tytn.

Blackberry Connect

Has anybody gotten blackberry connect to work on a Herald?
I just tried it on mine and ended up hardreseting cause it would never boot completely after it.
Help
Are you saying that you cant get the gprs settings for the black berry plan?
I am running the employee blackberry plan on my wing and it works great.
If you are using the black berry internet plan you need to have your gprs connecting to wap.voicestream.com
where did you get the cab for your wing
Cab
I got the cab here:
http://thinkabdul.com/2007/05/30/do...obile-5060-smartphones-and-pocket-pc-devices/
The issue is I install it and it totally hangs my herald up to the poing that not even a reset works. I guess I'll try and see now with WM6, because I did that before upgrading.
Anybody know why it doesn't work?
Thanks
Is this only working on the factory rom or a cooked rom? Im going to test this tonight anyway but i like my Touch layout but wouldnt mind testing this. According the website it changes out the Windows icons and home page to match the needs of RIM.
I will post once i test.
After many hours of testing it doesnt work on the Herald at this time. The software is only good for the Dash. I have to finish my testing from work because it seems to only accept a BES server. I got the service onto the Dash. I will post later how it works but to be honest this process what not worth the trouble.
Maybe someone can work on a cab file to make this compatable with the Herald. Also Xavier, custs of T-Mobile cant use the BB service with the Wing. Employees are able to use it because you are not truely on the BES on windows you are using webmail to bypass the firewall. This software once it works on all Windows mobile phones will generate a PIN which is required for blackberry users to use its service.
Hope this info helps.
Hard reset your device, install the blackberry software, but install the software in the phone memory, and then synchronize etc. basicaly u need to have a clean device to have it working, i encountered the same problem i followed this procedure and it works on HTC P4350. a.k.a. Herald.
is it possible to get BlackBerry Messenger on a winmo device? if u have blackberry connect does that mean you also get blackberry messenger? or is blackberry connect only for emailing? (which new winmo devices from carriers seem to do just fine with push email). thx
Blackberry Connect not working on my Wizard
I'm trying to get Blackberry Connect running on my Wizard. I have a couple of issues that I haven't seen addressed anywhere in the forums.
First, my info:
Device = HTC Wizard G4, Cingular 8125.
OS = WM 6.1 TNT.19199 v2.
Carrier = AT&T w/ a PDA Enterprise data plan, which allows BBConnect
My company runs Blackberry Enterprise Server.
I was able to get Blackberry Connect 4.0 from here: http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=225
Does anyone have a more recent version?
Do you know if I still need to use a hex editor to spoof my OS version? I haven't tried that yet.
Does anyone currently have BBConnect running successfully on an AT&T data plan using your 8125's IMEI number?
I installed BBConnect 4, it rebooted, I tried activating the BB, but it just said "Not Connected". Occasionally if I go to Utility and click "Register" the status screen will say "Service: Network Available" then "Data Tunnel Available" then back to "Not Connected".
Can I please hear from anyone running BBConnect on a Wizard? What is your configuration? What is your version of BBConnect? Where did you get it? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

I am having this very issue. I have a new Wing, I am on Tmobile, I have a BES data plan for my sim. Lastly I have the BBC 4.0.0.97...Installed without issue to phone memory. But will never generate a pin. Even speaking to BES server over GPRS or 802.11 etc, it will not activate my corporate account. I took my card to Tmobile and tested on a true bb device.. Worked no issue.
So I would tend to agree with you regarding these folks not truely on BES service over celluar means. You might be catching internally via 802.11 but even that seems odd.
So, please if the "wing'ers" have this working share the info..

BB Connect?? When/how?

HTC made a big deal about 5 devices having BB Connect, but the Diamond2 which IMHO is the best looking device HTC has released has no BB Connect.
Has anyone got it working with other cabs?? I have tried several but the issue seems to be the WM6.1?
Am I the only one
I had a lot of problems with BB and my previous HD. Now I'm still waiting for my diamond 2 so I can't test... Have you tried with the 4.0.0.103? (you can find it here http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?entry_id=276 )
Yeah, tried all sorts... always hard resetting be trying another to be on the safe side, sim is out of my BB and have got working on my TYYN2 before so no issues ion the plan side etc. Just the device
I'm looking for a BB Connect solution as well.
The .103 cab installs fine for me, but it won't actually connect to the BB server.
Don't know if it's the app not working, or if it's my carrier.
I suspect my carrier only supports true BlackBerry phones, and not BB Connect, as I wasn't able to register my BB Connect PIN/IMEI on the config site. It will only register the other BlackBerrys I have.
I've been through the cycle of trying to get the right bbconnect software to work with the right device every time HTC give us a new release.... there are various reasons why some versions do and do not work but often the solution is patience and waiting for the right software, but occasionally its just a matter of getting the most up to date version - This is the >>LINK<< to version 106 - HTC's latest sponsored version at the moment - it works perfectly on the Touch HD and so "may" work on the D2 - I would suggest a clean install rather than an "upgrade".....
Let us know how you get on? If it doesnt work we can look at other solutions such as registry tweaks and HKLM adjustments...
Good luck

BB Connect is software used with a number of Non BB devices, WM devices, Nokia Devices, all sorts.... I have used it over many years, but the challenge is always with a new device. And right now it does not want to work with the Topaz
spent last night hacking/tweaking but still no luck... come on HTC get it sorted!
Managed to get my TD2 to connect and return a PIN number today using 4.0.0.106, although it doesn't seem to be working now
Ran 4.0.0.106 on my Kaiser (on T-Mobile UK) and it worked fine, moved to O2 and it looks like it could be a problem
Anyone managed to use an HTC handset (unlocked) on O2email via WM 6.1 ?
i am missing the pin although I have been getting an IP Address??

As stated in the first post, version .106 of BlackBerry Connect won't work (no PIN). Tried it myself too.
Thanks for the reply though. Hope we'll get a fix for this soon so I can get rid of my TYTN II.
Would love to see BB Connect work on the TP2, as my plan comes w/ BIS, and from what I understand, BB Connect would allow me to use the unlimited BIS internet/email (right?)
ouch....
that will hurt big time... as my htc tytn died completely before i decided to buy the pro 2.
Will no change in the registry or something help, like we used to do in the TyTn?

has anyone tried asking customer support at HTC for a temporary solution?
btw, am getting my phone tomorrow - have been tracking DHL...
no but from past experience they are not very helpful and will probably state it isn't supported. All devices seem to go through this then they are magically supported and a version is released. I have been using exchange push emaul option and it works great. the only difference for me is that my company uses 4 character passwords for blackberry and 8 for exchange.
got my htc tp2. installed bbconnect 106 and the device is connected - has a pin. On the flip side, its been some time since i sent my service books, it has none in the list!
after a few hours of waiting and also one soft reset, the connection is established.
The settings page shows - Data Tunnel Available - but it does not go into connected mode.
However the services page does not have anything listed yet.
Any smart brains around?
i contacted HTC support, and this is what they wrote back! ... hmm.... - looong wait....

Is the Blackberry connect software dependent on HTC or our mobile carrier? (or doesn't it matter).
Would really be handy to get the unlimited BB internet on the TP2.

carrier i believe. I think there is a range of IMEE or something software related that passes through the carrier and if the BB connect software version youa re running doesnt report the right things then it doesnt work. Not sure if I am right or not but i thought that is how i understood it.
hi guys, tp2 just bought and sadly realized that bbconnect doesn't work. any news form your side?
