Hi all,
I've been having problems connecting to the internet now for a few weeks. Only one in 10 connections at best. 'Locating', 'Page Not Found' errors, no email.
I've read some of the posts on here about HSPDA, so I called T-Mobile to enable it, but they said that my price plan would have to increase. I think I'm on one of the lowest, but I didn't know there was extra costs for 'Walk 'n' Web'.
We went through some changes, but it didn't make my difference to my connections.
Has anyone any advice about either connections, or the HSPDA price plan issue? Are you paying the 'normal' price plan but are able to connect to HSPDA?
Thanks guys,
Ratzz
Ratzz,
Your not alone here, i have recently moved to T-Mobile and for the first week all was fine, both gprs and HSDPA were working fine, the later being very quick indeed for a mobile device.
This week has been a different story all together, since saturday morning my internet access has been very patchy, the same 'Locating', 'Page Not Found' errors that you are seeing. I can't offer any explanation, just sympathy and would love to get to the bottom of it myself.
Here's hoping.

For the past 3 weeks I have been using my Vario II as a usb modem and had no problems at all HSDPA working great as for price plan I have the basic web n walk, it is pot luck who you speak to at CS but keep calling and you will get HSDPA enabled once spoke to the right person, ask to be put through to technical.
is HSDPA the same as 3g or different? i'm on vodafone, will i need to get them to "turn hsdpa on" or is it on by default?
Check out the hermes forum over at www.modaco.com there is some indication this this is caused by a the T-Mobile DNS and T-Mobile transparent proxy servers being able to cope with the demand.
I had the same problem and have pretty much eliminated the delays by changing the DNS servers from being server assigned to 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 as many on modaco have done.

Tried that Simon ... same problems.
There is a link below which I found on a thread that worked ok for someone -- but again this didn't work for me.
http://www.manuals.t-mobile.co.uk/maillink.asp?a=3&wm=1a1677a401690a128256
ok, i seem to have found a combination that works for me at least.
I followed the steps on the MoDaCo thread above but used the following addresses.
DNS : 158.43.240.4
Alt DNS : 62.241.160.200
In the proxy settings, tick both "This network connects to the Internet" & This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet" and then click advanced. Tap the HTTP (type) and enter 149.254.201.132 port 8080 and click ok. This works great for me both on gsm (gprs) & HSDPA (UMTS).
Hope this works for you guys too.
Regards.

Hi
I use my Vario II on the train with a laptop over bluetooth everyday between stirling and edinburgh. The coverage is mostly 3G (Linlithgow being the exception), and I get one black-spot just south of linlithgow.
The situation with the original t-mob rom was dire. I am now using the test AKU3.3 rom with radio 1.27 and its much better. Bluetooth PAN seems more reliable than the old dial-up networking.
On my laptop, I have changed the DNS settings for the PAN to non t-mob ones. I was having the same issues everyone else reports with failed resolutions.
Some days it works superbly, some days, its sh1te. This is imho, simply issues at t-mobile. I travel at the same times on each day, so I dont see that the proxy can be loaded more so one day than the next.
I also find that with HSDPA switched off, things are far more reliable than with it on. Having said that, some days I get a good HSDPA connection all the way.
What I could do with is a cacheing DNS server running locally on the laptop that will override the TTL (time to live) for the domains that it caches. I would have installed bind, but its a beast (I use it at home)... Anyone know of a mini DNS server that would suit my needs? Currently I have the sites that I use regularly shoved in a hosts file!
Nigel
I'm having exactly the same problem, had put it down to a problem with my radio ROM, but from reading this thread it looks like a t-mobile problem, so hopefully it will sort itself in due course. In the mean time I'll have a look at changing those settings................cheers.

Hi
I use USB instead of bluetooth where convenient from a laptop. Would you care to do a test @ http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html from your laptop while on HSDPA via USB ???
I get about 550K down and 330K up which although pretty good is way off the headline figures! Wondered if my tests were about the same as yours?

HSDPA
Hi all,
Following on from my original message, I called T-Mobile today and insisted they enable HSDPA on my line for the ongoing internet problems.
They did it (I'm on the BASIC W&W), and within 10 minutes all my problems were solved.
Ratzz
Excellent news - Let's just hope it stays that way. If not give the DNS server settings a try.
BTW what sort of download speeds are you getting? I use http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1 and I tend to get a pretty constant 650kbps down and 350kbps up.
I have heard people getting in 750kbps upto over 1Mbps but not something I've ever managed and definately have HSPDA enabled on the phone and network.
enabling hsdpa seems to have fixed all my problems too.
Have seen speed upto 800 kbps so far.

Anyone else got anything other than the following showing on their 'my t-mobile' page? You'll find it under 'Mobile Phone Summary-->View Or Modify Features Of Your Plan' :-
WAP Call On

Call Hold On
Call Forward to VoiceMail On
GPRS On
Web & Wap 384k Up/2048 Down On Appearently this is the HSDPA setting
International & Premium Calls On
Voice & Data Roaming On
Picture Messaging On

Additionally in another section 'Mobile Phone Summary-->Additional Allowances And Services' I have the following:-
18 Month Upgrade Flag £0.00
Capped Data Rate £0.00
Remove Content Lock £0.00
Video Calling £0.00
£5 Go Direct Discount £0.00
I am wondering what the 'Capped Data Rate' is ?? Its available as a 'service' that can be added as well, but there is no way to remove it. Anyone else got the same showing on their 'my t-mobile' page ??
Nigel
If I remember correctly I have the option to add Capped Data Rate at no extra cost but it isn't applied to my account. I haven't applied it as I don't like the sound of somthing that is "Capped" - I'd love to find out what it is.
What WnW package are you on? I have the WnW Plus (so that I can legitimately use my VarioII as a modem for my laptop and not fear huge bills).
Hi
I am also on web and walk plus
Nigel
'Capped Data Rate'
is for if you dont have web n walk, it means your data carges are capped at £1 a day (midnight til midnight)
Hi,
I have tried for over a month now to get my Softbank X01HT(same as HTC TyTn and tmo MDA?) to work with the t-mobile usa gprs with no luck. I have contacted t-mobile and spent over two hours on the phone with them trying different things to get it to work. I would like to know if anyone out there has gotten this to work and if so please share with me how? Also, is there something preventing the phone from accepting a connection from t-mobile? The phone was purchased unlocked. I am using the HTC TyTn ROM on this phone.
Thanks in advance,
Mine works fine
Hi Braheem,
I have a softbank x01ht and have it connected to the tmobile network here in cali. When I first got it i just dropped my sim card in it and input the network settings from tmobile and I was on surfing the web with no problems. Three days later I couldn't connect. I allowed this to go on for three days and I finally called t-mobile. The first lady I talked to in tech support said everything was fine and nothing was wrong with my account. Then she asked if I wanted to go to pda support so I said sure why not. I just told them that my phone was the same as the mda II and she informed me that what had happened was I was on the 5.99 internet plan and they had a script run through and disconnect ppl that were using that plan with pda's. Only thing I think is maybe seeing ppl with high internet usage and then disabiling it? She said if I sign up with the pda plan for 29.99 then I would be able to get on in 24 hours. 12 min later i was up and surfing the web again and it has been that way for over a week. She said to get to pda support just say pda at the voice menu. Anyway hope this helps. If you need network settings they are on the t-mobile site, but i can help you out more if you aren't sure what to put or where to put them.
DocGSXR
I have an x01ht with the 19.99 blackberry plan in california, usa. Mine has been working all the time. all you have to do is on your "my-tmobile" change your phone to any blackberry and get the 19.99 add-on internet plan and allow 5 to 10 minutes for the plan to activate, on your htc go to start>settings>connections>Connections click on add a new modem connection
and fill everything out:
Enter a name for the connection: whatever you want
Select a modem: cellular GPRS, 3G
Access Point Name: wap.voicestream.com
leave user name, password and domain empty and click finish
Now from here you can have internet but its going to take a while the first time you try to access it. Open PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer), you will see a pop-up notification when the gprs/edge is connecting. load any website. I suggest using google.com to make the load faster. Its going to take around 2 to 3 minutes for the page to load completely.
Now here is something nobody else has done in this forum, something new and fresh. You want faster internet? Here is what you have to do:
First, download and install a registry editor (I personally use PHM RegEdit)
Open it and go to HKEY_CURRENT-USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
now look for "ProxyEnable" click on it and make sure the value data is set to 1 (it will enable proxy to work on PIE), if it doesn't exist (which i doubt) create it, to do that go to edit>New DWORD and fill it out like this:
Value name: ProxyEnable
Value Data: 1
Base: Decimal
click ok.
Now create a string value with the name "ProxyServer", to do that go to edit>new string value and fill it out like this:
Value name: ProxyServer
Value Data: 216.155.165.050:8080
click ok.
Now restart the device and run PIE, you will clearly notice how the pages load faster.
The reason I know this is because I am a network professional, I will not explain in detail why this settings make the internet faster but ill try to make it as clear as possible:
You can get the 5.99 t-mobileweb that will allow you to ONLY use the PIE. You will not be able to use e-mail, stream media or use im clients because the ports are blocked.
The blackberry add-on plan will allow you to do everything possible with internet on your device but they internet speed is slower.
Both plans use the same servers but the ports make the difference in speed, so to take advantage of the best qualities from both plans I added the proxies for exclusive use of the PIE in the registry (since there are no settings in the PIE software to configure the proxies).
I hope it helps you. Please forgive my weird english i'm Colombian. if you need further help feel free to PM me.
I am new to windows mobile devices but I can be of help with things related to networking.
How about on AT&T's 3G network?
Interesting posting. But would your suggested ProxyServer value be good also for AT&T 3G network? Actually, I am trying to use my Softbank X01HT(Hermes200) with a non-AT&T ROM to access its Media Net (with a Media Max bundle plan), but don't know the proper settings.
All I saw so far were postings for Cingular (AT&T) 8525 which is officially supported by AT&T and perhaps >95% similar to X01HT in hardware. But I suspect the ROMs for these two phones are different, so the settings should be different too. Is it true? Can you help? Thanks.
First feeler to find out who else will be getting this device. So far really havent seen anyone (besides jmarice) speaking of the Magic in Japan (and he was luck enough to get a Google version). It comes out tomorrow, and heres to hoping that it isn't going to be as crippled as the mytouch (perfected spl - I've been lurking and reading much). But everything else about Japan's cell phone indrustry says it will, for a country so advanced, their cells really seem to be lacking. Not to mention, from what I understand from Docomo, the android flavor coming pre packaged in the phone will only have a Japanese UI - FAIL. Again, heres to hoping for an easily rooted version!
Smart phones are really a new thing in japan, with the Iphone only droping about 2 months ago. Most phones here are clam-shell style and each generaly have their own propirtary OS. I have been using a AU W62CA - Casio G'z One v3 Latest model, Sharp phone - water proof, Can make calls up to 30 meters underwater(not that you could speak), but texting does work. Great phone but locked beyond belief....
Any one have any info - Leads - Anything...?
*UPDATE* Just got the phone, and it is bilingual...Dumb store clerks...
So it shows

If that means anything to anyone.
Let the learning ensue...
That means you wont be able to flash new SPL on the device until someone finds out how to fix the "perfected" SPL issue.
Hi everyone.
I am living in Japan too and having a softbank X02HT running wm I am really interested in HTC magic but really don't want to switch to DoCoMo. I am wondering if I buy HTC magic from oversea carriers (for example vodafone), will it work with softbank's network? I think it should,'cuz softbank's network basically is vodafone's , before they retreated from japan market and sold their network to softbank.
Thanks in advance.
yehp, picked up the ht-03a too.
Yeah stupid store clerks, they told me it didn't have a full keyboard... *sigh* Anyways, I got the same information regarding the versions. I haven't tried rooting it yet, kind of waiting and seeing....
I got my phone last week too. I'm interested to know what the possibilities are for rooting. Loving the phone anyway though.
the other day I saw a thread in the sofware and devolopment forum somthing like a work in progress, been watching that closely...but as of now.. guess we just have to wait...
I picked up my HT-03A about a week ago. I have since been playing around with it like a little kid and racking up a good bill in the meantime. While I have absolutely no idea as to what you guys are trying to accomplish, I have a small problem that I would be very grateful for if some light could be shed on it.
Since yesterday I have been seeing a folder in my email program titled ".ERROR". I am not sure if that is my fault, mopera U's problem, or possibly a common error across Android. What concerns me about this is if my meddling has caused it and it is also attributing to mopera being very slow at retrieving my IMAP emails.
What service are you tring to IMAP...? With gmail, the stupid built in email program (witch views lables as folders) keeps makeing a new folder/label called trash, no problems, just annoying.
I was actually not referring to Gmail, but the email program that Android comes with. I used it to connect to mopera U through IMAP, but it doesn't work correctly. It will often not inform me of any mails I receive to that address for hours at a time. It also has the problem I mentioned above, the .ERROR problem. I gave up on trying to figure out how to use the system and am using Gmail. That runs much more smoothly, albeit having too many emails coming to me. I figured out that it is not so much the service itself, but the connection the service has with the program. Not sure who is to blame, could be me for all I know. Regardless, it is a nuissance that I would rather not deal with.
hmm... I use the 'email' program in android to check another gmail account (other than the one that is linked to my phone) and hot mail... I havent had any problems, there are setting to tell the program how offen to check for new mail. Are you talking about Docomo's imode email? the one that is inclulded with the mopera account...? I really don't know too much about it as I swiched to docomo just for this phone and never had one of there emails, and now use gmail as the primary phone mail... but one would think that your local docomo shop should be able to shed some light...
I had to cancel my imode email when I purchased this phone in order to use the mopera service, which I was told is the only one I could use with this phone. I was given a mopera U email account, but the man who helped me did not know how to access it and had to call around just to get me instructions off the website on how to set it up. I thought that was weird considering he has the same phone. He told me that Gmail is the better option to use, and now I see why. I tried many many times to set up the mopera U email with the email program, but even setting it to 5 minute intervals on an IMAP setting will not result in it checking. Often I will have to take it off the screen saver mode in order for it to automatically check. I have had instances where it wouldn't inform me of an email for more than two hours after I received it. That to me is unacceptable. imode was always lightning quick with how it operated. I think it might be my phone though, because I notice that the phone will not always switch to my Wifi network even though I am in range. I will often need to take it off the screen saver to have it switch, like I mentioned above. Sometimes it will take Gmail a little bit of time to receive emails as well. I had thought of going in to ask, but I doubt they will know what to do.
I have only had that problem once, I brushed it off as the battery was low, so it may be true... the 'gmail' app has been rather spot on, havent noticed any lag with it yet.
And for wifi, I use an app called wefi, it seems to do really well, it scans for open wifi and tries to connect, but there is a place where you can set up preferred networks.
Also from what I understand, you can use almost any Japanese ISP for the internet service...I don't know where you are but they offered me OCN but I went with what ever..
And I have never met some more poorly trained store employees as at mobile shops in Japan...I never leave less than amazed at what they don't know...
Japanese HT-03A questions
Hi,
I'm looking to buy the HT-03A here in Japan, and I've got a couple of newbie questions.
Are there differences between the Japanese handset and the European/American ones that I'm reading about online?
Would I have full access to the European/American marketplaces?
If I try to flash a "Hero" ROM onto it, will it still work with Docomo's network?
If you know the answer to any of these questions, I'd be very grateful!

#1, As far as I know, Japanese unit is shipped with 2 batteries and 2G Kensington micro SD card, then it is google branded.
#2. At this moment, you can access only free apps.
#3. Yes, it will work perfectly as another customoized WM6 units do. But, it's your own risk. (Actually I had my magic bricked while rooting).
If you want to flash, I suggest you should fully read related threads and documents around here.
Finally, it's All of your own risk!

If anyone has a couple minutes, could you go to your

Wireless networks
And let me know your mopera settings?
Minus your user name and password that.
I am running my ht-03a on haykuro, but it didn't keep the mopera settings.
If you on cyanogen or haykuro, please let me know.

You only have the limited market with un paid apps out of the box - but after root you can use the "Market Enabler" app... and get access to all the apps..
and I have run a Hero rom on the Docomo net work with out any problems (Fat1ly's rom I think).
and the APN settings for Bizhodai are
Name: Mopera U
APN: mpr2.bizho.net
Rest default
Alternitives that work (unsure of the impact on billing, so be wary)
Name: Mopera U Settings
APN: 0120.mopera.ne.jp
Rest Default
AND
Name: Mopera.net
APN: mopera.net
BTW, I am running Cymod and havent had any problems (except i forgot to make a nandroid of the default DOCOMO Rom, incase I ever needed to go back, so if anyone would care to zip one up for me, most appreachated.)

That will work if you have mopera email account.
So, if you did not have, that is meaningless.
I don't have a mopera email and it worked fine for me... but like I said, I don't know if it is billed the same as with the Pakehodai or not... so I gave the warning...

Don't worry about it. Mopera U Settings(0120.mopera.ne.jp) is only for mopera email settings, so you can not access internet via Mopera U Settings.
Accorting to rumor(?), Docomo have delveoped and been running new APN system which checks IMEI every time user access bizhodai APN.
Also, the new one is mpr2.bizho.net. So, if you access internet with a unit which is not registered to Docomo, you will receive a huge amount of bill even though you contract to bizhodai plan and set correct APN.
Hi! I am experiencing trouble connecting to AT&T EDGE on my unlocked Topaz. I purchased this phone aware of the fact that I wasn't going to have 3G available but not having EDGE as well is very disappointing.
I have an AT&T GoPhone account and I have also installed the recommended settings from the Connection Wizard that popped up when I had inserted my SIM Card. However, I constantly have a gray E icon on my status bar and I am unable to access the internet. When I test the internet connection by trying to update the weather I get the following error: "The answering modem disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings."
I have called AT&T they kept me waiting for an hour and were not able to help me. They were going to file a report for the tech support to review but they did not file the report that because I did not have another telephone number to give to them beside my cell phone for them to call me back(I am an international college student, I don't have a land line). I then tried to get help from their online chat support but their system won't allow me because my account is a GoPhone. So I am stuck here with my $450 dollar phone not able to enjoy its features to its full extent .
Is there anyone else that has experienced this problem? Or is there anyone that could help me configure the connection settings manually?
Thanks!

Check with your service provider that the edge service is enabled for your account. Then check you have paid for the correct plan (I don't know the procedure that applies to AT&T, but they may require all this).
If you have everything enabled/paid for then there is no technical reason why you should not be able to connect unless there is no service in your area!

pa49, thanks for your reply. I am sure that edge service is enabled for GoPhone accounts (not 3g though) and I am sure there is service in the area. If I am not wrong, the gray "E" icon on my status bar is telling me that there is edge available but that I am not able to connect to it.
I am just hoping that there is someone here that is using an unlocked HTC touch diamond2 in the united states that is able to access the internet via edge.

Ok. Make sure you have the correct settings. Then in Manage existing connections tap and hold the modem connection and delete the entry. Reset the phone and then input the settings again manually. Don't let the phone run the auto connection setup.

Unfortunately what you have suggested is not working also :S.
Maybe I have something wrong with my settings. Even though I have done a lot of searching in order to find the correct settings for an Unlocked Diamond2, I have not been able to find the settings specifically for an Unlocked Diamond2 with WM6.1/6.5. The settings I found were for previous versions of WM or were for another HTC model.

What radio are you running?
I hate to say it but I don't think your going to get it to work. And I'm sorry because its all my fault! See for the past 4 years I have been a DM for AT&T and one day I was braging to our "smartphone support team" about how with my 8925+WMWifi+PayGo account with the 19.95 unlimited data package I could brodcast 3g wifi speeds through out my entire house with no need to worry about being charged overages for the 5GB soft limit (simply because no "real" info is needed to create a paygo account you can just say your name is Jon Doe and the give you one)
Two days later I got an email that the prepaid unlimited internet service had been disscontinued forever :-(..... And much more security was added to the system....
Your best bet to get internet working on the device is to put your sim card in an old moto razor (this way your razr IMEI doesn't flag you as a "smartphone" ) dial 611 and subscribe to the highest data package you can which is like 200MB or something.
Then you can put your sim card back in the TD2 and you should be good to go... for 200Mb's that is.... then your SOL...
and again sorry... you know what they say "loose lips sink ships"
or if you have a credit card or bank account switch to Pick-Your-Plan its a lot cheaper minute wise in the long run and you can have unlimited data just make sure to give them a bogus IMEI to some crappy razr you can find in every household....
Hi I'm Lui, I own an Xperia X1 with a Sun cellular postpaid. I rarely use GPRS/3G to connect to the internet and instead use Wifi. But recently, life pushed me to use Sun internet and I was annoyed that I cannot actually browse using it. I have gone to the Sun Shop for them to try and configure it, but they say that X1 is not yet in their list of handsets.
To get to the point, can you use Sun Internet to surf? what are your settings? how did you configure it?
I am terribly desperate and have combed through google for settings that work, to no avail. For the mean time, I bought a prepaid Smart sim for emergency situations, but considering that X1 has a long reboot time, it really tests my patience.
Hoping for guidance, Lui
you have to run the connection setup to download and configure the settings for GPRS/3G internet. goto;
Start >> Settings >> Connections >> "Connections Setup"
If that doesnt work then your Xperia wont support your cellular provider until its unlocked.
hope this helps
my phone is unlocked. if you read my post again, you'll see that i can use different networks with the handset. i have already tried configuring setup, it doesn't connect. gprs/wap has already been activated by the network.
ehat i'm looking for is if there's some manual settings i need to do. pls do not sugest to me the settings if you've only googled it and did not try for yourself. and definitely not if you use a different network
actually tama sinabi nya im using sun on experia check if your plan has active internet first, then do the one in post above its automatic already for unlocked phones . if all else fails type manually apn: internet, as setting. Some people are trying to help you so dont be an a$$ about it

@xerex999 I'm sorry if you feel I'm being rude in my post above. I'm just stating that since he is not Pinoy and definitely not a Sun Cellular user, he is in no position to give me advice regarding this matter. What I need is tried and tested advice from a PINOY using SUN CELLULAR POSTPAID.
I have already tried several manual settings, auto config. went to sun center. asked around. Somebody has confirmed that they can connect to internet using SUNCELLULAR PREPAID.
So, in short, what I need here is feedback from a fellow PINOY who is also using SUNCELLULAR POSTPAID.
@kenneth_jae who is your mobile provider?
