Data connection full time - Touch HD General

Hey guys.
One of these days I got an SMS from my carrier saying my data plan had been activated (I didn't ask for it) and that my cell would be self configured to use the data connection.
The problem is that since then, my phone seems to be connected full time.
The back plate is hot as hell, the battery doesn't last 6 hours, and every cheap pc speaker set (that suffers interference from cell phone waves) indicates it's connected the whole time.
The first time it happenned, I managed to turn it off with "HD Tweak".
Now I flashed Dutty's "R7 Thriller" and the problem is back, though now I use HD Tweak to disable the connection, set "always on" to false, set "auto disconnect" to 10 seconds and nothing seems to fix this. The only way to make my battery last for more then half a day is to put it in airplane mode.
I even tryied to set the 'priority' order of connections to "My Work Network", and I even deleted the data connection (There's "Vivo Zap", the Edge/3G one, and "Vivo MMS" - this MMS hasn't been deleted by me).
Anybody had any problem like this? How to fix this?!
Thanks in advance!

try this app http://rapidshare.com/files/88130685/MoDaCo_NoData.CAB.html
it disables data connection completely -- install then go to settings, connections and start no data and disable your decided connection!

Thanks a lot, I'll give it a try! ; )
Just outta curiosity: is this normal, this full time connection? I disabled it every way I found, and yet it didn't stop!

Of course it aint normal, but I maybe wrong, cuz i have a completely different operator and completely different data connection(which is turned off for me by the operator)--- full time connection maybe active because something is wrong with your rom or something - try a hard reset if the nodata app doesnt help

NoData didn't run in my ROM (Onkolog's WM6.5 Full). : (
But I installed "Advanced Config Tool" and disabled "GPRS Auto Attach".
Description: "Automatically search GPRS/3G connection on start of radio, or only when a data connection must be estabilished".
It seems cooler now; as soon as I get to my work I'll test it with the desktop speakers (they make some pretty weird noises when there is a cell phone radio frequency emitter near them, like a cell phone trying to connect to the 3G or GSM network).
I'll post it back when I get back!

I disabled my data connection like this
Settings>Connections>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks...
And in those two drop down menus select "My Work Network"
Worked for me....

I tried that too, but that didn't work.
Indeed, the only way to make the battery last more then 6 hours is to use "Advanced Config" and disable that 3G lookup thing.
Weird, uh? Anybody had a similar problem...?

Want IE to use WiFi, not GPRS, like Skype does!

Hello all. I have a Cingular 8525 (WM5) that I have successfully setup to use my home WiFi connection. Skype works great. My signal strength is good. In the "Network Cards" applet, it shows my WiFi network (it's the only one listed) with four bars and a "Connected" status. Everything seems fine.
When I try to use IE, though, it always tries to use GPRS to connect! Under Connections->Advanced->Select Networks, I have chosen "My Work Network" for both options. It still tries to use GPRS!
I don't even have a SIM installed, so I have no phone service whatsoever. So why in the blazes is it trying to use it instead of WiFi?
Anybody got any ideas?
Edit:
Well, I got it to work by toggling flight mode on and then back off again. Then, I had to turn WiFi back on again (bringing the phone out of flight mode doesn't re-enable WiFi). After I did that, though, IE used my wireless connection. Go figure.
I wish I knew the real reason, though. Someday, I'm going to install a SIM in this thing and I want to make sure it's not using that over my home wireless connection. Guess I'll have to look into those GPRS hacks I keep reading about.
maybe not much help but I had the same problem recently. I turned the phone to 'off' (even though it had no sim in it) and left it - it resolved itself and it working fine!
Thanks Frank. Glad I'm not the only one.
As a sidenote, I checked the registry settings (hack) for GPRS and there were two ISP's listed: one called My ISP and another called Cingular ISP (or something to that effect). In both cases, they were already set to 0 (off), so I would think they should have already been disabled.
GPRS lock
Hey guys I found a program called NOData these program allows you to disable the gprs so you dont suffer the conectio while you're using wi-fi and loose signal strenght works great and really easy to use.
Cheers
Same Problem
I have a T-mobile MDA and it has the same problem. I can fix it by going to the communication manager, turning off "data connection", and then toggling the wifi off and then back on. That always seems to fix it. Also, just going to flight mode does the same thing.
my X01HT always connect to gprs..i dont know how to turn off it..i`ll try MoDaCo_NoData..
gprs lock

GPRS tries to connect when already connected to Wifi

Hi, i have a very strange and unpleasant problem with my Hermes.. At home I am using my wifi connection to receive mails etc. My Hermes connects to the wifi network normally, but when I want to use internet connection (IE, Outlook..) it will start GPRS. I have to turn wifi of and back on to be able to use it. It is pretty annoying as you can imagine. Now I am using latest Tytn WWE rom, but i have had same problems with T-mobile rom.
My old Wizard is connecting normally and has never done something stupid like this Do anyone have some clue what may cause this strange behaviour?
Have you confirmed that the home WiFi connection is configured as 'Connects to: The Internet'? In comm manager turn off the WiFI then go into settings/connections/Network Cards and you will be presented with all the networks used or previously found by your TyTn wireless card.
Select you named home wireless connection and you will be presented with the screen "Configure Wireless Network". Make sure that the entry against "Connects to:" i sset to The Internet - then press OK (top right), then dismiss the settings windows.
Try the connection again - it worked for me a while back. If already set at "connects to the Internet" then try deleting the settings and creating the entry again: press and hold on the connection (your home WiFi) then select "Remove Settings". Then turn on networked and set it up again remembering to select "connects to the Internet" when asked during the configuration of the WiFi connection. Of course you will again be prompted for a network key if you have a secure wireless router.
- if you all this then sorry but you didn't say. Hope it helps
I have already set it to connect to the internet few days ago. But i will try to remove those settings and do it again.. Hope it will solve the problem.
Thanks for your help. I'll report later..

Mine does the same thing and I am set the same way, even though it connects to GPRS etc it still uses the WiFi (ran speed test on IE to confirm)
Hi
I hear good things about Danielherrero's bandswitch app. This is a long thread and I think there are revisions along the way so best read through a sample of the pages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844&highlight=danielherrero
Whether it will solve your particular issue I don't know - but worth a look?

Hmm.. I am already using that band switcher. Really a great program but unfortunatelly it cannot solve this issue.
But.. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel I've deleted my network settings and than set it again. And now it seems to be working! Hmm.. cannot be quite sure if it isn't just lucky day, but I've tested it more than 10 times and it seems to be OK.
Anyway... thanks for your help
Hopefully it will continue to work.
PS Is "cancer man" still alive or have the ciggies killed him off?
Mike
Glad to hear it worked OK. I too found it was teh only way to get mine initially working - since deleting and recreating the link it has worked OK (3 mths plus)
Aaah.. I heard that cancer man is still alive. But.. trust no one Hope he will not follow the Marlboro Man..
And by the way.. After few hours it still seems to be working. Thanks guys!!
Out of a month of use it has happened to me only once. I just turned off wifi then turned it back on. I believe the tytn is not recognising that it has a valid Internet connection.

Disable Data Connection - Keep MMS

Hi,
There's a lot of people asking how can I disable my data connection, but keep MMS capabilities, and the short answer has generally been "you can't"
They're wrong.
YOU CAN....!
This works for me...
1. Keep all your data connections to their maufacturer default - whatever they happen to be.
2. Go to Settings \ Connections \ Advanced TAB
3. Select Networks
4. Change "programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using" to My Home Network (this is your WiFi connection)
5. Hit Edit, then go to the Proxy Settings TAB
6. This is the most important part - Tick: "This network connects to the internet"
7. Hit ok and you're done...
Trust me, this works. I had my set up like this for a while and never had any problem - I could send and recieve MMS and would only connect to WiFi for data (or via ActiveSync)
The other day, I re-flashed my device, and found that today I was somehow connected to a data download (had been for 90 long and expensive minutes)
I finally narrowed it down to step 6 and now the problem is gone...!
Try it for yourself - follow my settings, then try to connect to the internet - it won't work... now try to send an MMS to yourself - not only will it send, but you will also receive it back...
I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me...
Let me know if you do or don't have any success this way...
Cheers
BTW - if you find it's not working, repeat steps 4 to 5 with all your data connections, but make sure step 6 is un-ticked...
or use nodata
head over to modaco.com and search for nodate
Thanks so much! Seems to work perfectly so far. I was looking for this the other day and gave up. Just randomly decided to look in the General discussion area, lucky me
This will not work on the default VZW rom.
Verizon has an app that will go and change the data settings EVERY time you go and reset your phone. This really ticks me off because I have to have my data totally disabled.
If there was an app that changed the default connection every time the phone started up, there may be hope for us pissed off Verizon suckers....

Flash a new ROM...
Sounds to me line Verizon have a vested interest in you downloading data...
Have you tried Advanced Configuration Tool 3.3 (or NoData - as mentioned above) for permenantly switching these off... Might be what you need
SBSH PhoneWeaver (which isn't free) can be used to set profiles, including the defualt data connection, which will do this after a soft reset. Download a trial and see if it works...
I'm not interested in flashing a new rom. (I've already done a more thorough version of your hack to a cooked rom.) I'm on a Sprint Touch Pro and love the fast Verizon Manila (I've searched forever and there is no cab or theme ).
However I might end up calling up Visual Studio and coding something to fix this pain in the neck problem! I know it happens in a few custom roms too.
Thanks, I was looking for this option for a while now but I couldn't find it myself.
thx a lot, just caught mine data connected this morning for 15 mn again, right after I was to far from my wifi !
crazy phone !! but we still love it

Why does my HD2 keep connecting to the internet? (on its own)

Every now and then, I notice that my phone connects to the internet (t-mobile internet). I find this strange because I've disabled everything (i can think of) from automatically updating or connecting (weather, email and msMyPhone). I have an unlimited data plan so I'm not particularly worried about the cost; however, it drains my battery fast. Just yesterday, I tapped the top of the screen to see my notifications and I noticed that t-mobile internet had been connected for over 2 hours. I just can’t figure out the cause. I've even done the auto disconnect registry tweak (auto disconnect after 60 seconds) but still no joy. If anyone can help or even suggest a process monitoring application, I’d be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Did you disable the rest of the services ( HTC location service, stocks, Internet time sync, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube as well ? In my case the Stock were causing unwanted connections before I figured out..

I think stock was the culprit. I removed it from the home tab from day one and as a result couldnt access it's settings. I put it back on and sure enough it was connecting every 30 mins.
Thanks alot mate. I'll report back in a day or two with the results, though I'm pretty certain it was the stock application.
If you want to be able to turn internet off so it cant connect when you dont want it to then just install the attached cab, run the program then you can enable or disable both settings as appropriate.
I also recommend to use NoData.
Just go to settings->wireless control->connection->advance->select network(choose my work connection if you havent rename it yet) If you would like to use hsdpa/edge/gprs again you will have to change it to as it was before.

Even better, you can use Dial-up Enabler/Disabler: works like nodata but interface is a little better and is more user friendly ;-)

Pls note that with nodata, you disable the internet connection but, if the connection is active while disabling it, you still need to end it manually after exiting nodata.
This sounds weird I know...
With dial-up enabler/dsabler it is a lot easier as you will see two connections: one is the internet connection configured on your phone and the other is the current active connection, and you can disable them at the same time.
In addition it does not have annoying confirmation messages on disabling and exiting

how do u do auto disconnection tweak
HD2 connection problem
Connect your HD2 to your computer and transfer the cad file to your mobile.
Find the file on your phone using File Explorer (on the phone).
Double click on it and follow the instructions.
Then go to Start and locate the nodata programme.
Start it and disable what you want.
I disabled the Orange (in my case) internet connection and WAP.
In my case it is crucial that I donet't g automatic access to internet services when I roam because I am on a PAYG tariff.
£20 last me up to three months normally with a different phone (SIC) and since I started using my HD2 my last top up lasted me less than a week.
It's a rip-off!
Once beaten, twice shy...
I won't be caught again!
Hope this helps

turn off autoconnect of data connection

i just got this prepaid sim, that charges per MB that i use, and i have the APN, so i make a new connection, fill in the user name and password, and then i just connect, but when i want to stop using it, i go in communication manager, and turn off the data connection, but a bit later i realize that it turned back on... i want to prevent that.
and second thing i wanna ask is, they offered me "high speed" connection, suposedly 3G, when i want to use the internet on my phone, i just open a browser and it connects and i start browsing, will it use the 3G automatically? cause when i go to comunication manager i only see "data connection" turned "on"

Hi ibsa03,
when the wifi signal is weak, your PDA will automatically connect to 3G.
I would advise you to change your Data Connection settings as you can disable them via the NoData/Dial-up EnabledDisabler program (search forum for the links to these programs for download or check your current ROM to see if it's already cooked in) to disable 3G.
As Mastoid said use NoData to toggle off data connection when you don't want to use it
thanks! im gonna try it out now.
as to the other doubt i had.. if i start browsing without the 3G turned on, what will my maximum speed be? using a 3G network coverage that is..
You might try using MonteCristoff's HD Tweak (search forums for it)... it has option to set autodisconnect timer (and yeah, it works).
As to your last question, depends how your device is set. If it has band autoselect, it'll try to use highest speed possible... meaning, HSDPA/HUSPA if available by network (and you write it is).
Othervise, if you force GSM/disable 3G, it will use EDGE or other highest GSM speed...
excellent
