A question about overclocking - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi,
I have Qtek s200 for a few days now, and i want to know what is the best overclock speed for the CPU. I use BatteryStatus and so far I have overclocked to 221. 234 and 247, The highest temperature it reached was about 43 degrees Celsius according to the monitoring of Battery Status.
I think that this temperature is too high for the poor thing, please share your experience of overclocking s200.
Thanks!
P.P. Just a quick question, totally off the topic, does s200 sound a bit quiet in a phone conversation?

overclocking
i put usual overclocking to 204, while im watching video in phone i raise it to 240, think maximum prophet can go is 252 without major problems
& for sound question --sound in phone conversation is fine, only external speaker sux

Thanks for the answer.
What overclocking application are you using?

Your experience with overclocking?

Hi!
Has anyone yet found out good values for the overclocking? Can the overclocking damage the Prophet (O2 XDA Neo)?
Does the overclocked CPU drain more battery power?
that tool is great to overclock the profhet to 240-250 Mhz
you must test it what for you the best config !
I've been overclocking my JAMin since day 1 (about 6 weeks now) and with great results. I have set it up to overclock @240MHz all the time (do a search for the instructions) and it's been stable, quick and with no major impact on battery life.
Since the last ROM update - the JAMin has been stable with no spontaneous soft resets. Just great.
Nir
is the rom-update available for the o2 xda neo, too?
noch nicht wenn es rauskommt findest du es hier...
http://www.o2-online.de/o2/kunden/technikundeinst/exclusive/xda/xdaneo/index.html
The only upgrade you'll get is Imates, qtek s200 or dopods. O2 sucks as far as upgrade concern. Especially in germany. This so called tech support guys still think that you’ll kill the device if you upgrade it! At least this is what they been telling me! The bottom line, get an update, get “fixed” RUU, search forum, and run an update. You’ll loose german rom though unless you back it up using aWizard.
My S200 overclocked about 5 weeks by now. 276 MHz cause spontaneous softreset once or twice per day. 264MHz works fine; it is my current overclock speed. I don’t think it may cause battery drain, but something drains battery randomly. My suspect is Communication Manager.
I'm using smartskey to overclock. When set to 240 it crashes. Anyone knows why? I'm also using O2 and i've made some standard registry hacks (cache size).
264MHz works for me too.
What programs do we use for benchmarking to see what outperforms what
activesync dropout
I can overclock up to 240 but when I connect to active sync 4.1 it keep dropping its conection
Camera problem when overclocking...
When overclocking above 234 Hz w/ BatteryStatus or 216 with Omapclock,... I get strange dots and color in camera...
Anyone having same problem?
Well in the topic about upgrading to one of the latest roms I saw a lot of people having problems with the camera and overclocking. So it seems to be happening when overclocking for sure. Not much you can do about it except clocking it back when you want to use the camera
I have the same Problem. Thats why I use applicationbased clocking with Batteriestatus, setting Kamera and Coolcamera to 195 mHz.
cu seneca
Yeah, same here btw totally forgot to mention that.
I use batterystatus with the CPUscaler option on. At the moment I have it automaticly scaled up to 221mhz when needed. But indeed all the camera apps have it set back at 195.
Not quite sure to what speed I can go safely. Mostly need somewhat more speed with the navigation on in the car. Although that uses the device 100% for sometimes hours. So since most of the people go up to 240 I just though 220 might be a safe number No problems so far.
Anyway, I'm interested in making it a little bit faster. But an overclock of over 20% just seems too much (or too good to be true )...

Thanks in advance.

You need the Version BatteryStatusPlus.Beta1.0.03.zip of BatterieStatusPlugin at the first Message of this Thread
cu seneca
Thanks Seneca...
I had the non.beta version installed, thus not having those options... Is this Beta version stable/well-proven? Why don't they ibnclude this functionaility in the "definitive" non-beta version?
Thanks again, great forum and great support!
Jarel
After finishing the Beta Phase, it will be included in an extendet Version.
On my NEO/Qtek it is very stable. But read the Thread. There are the answers.
cu seneca
With respect to overclocking it has been stable for a long time. With regards to other features they appear to be stable, hence the change to beta status.
The only question is how high you can overclock your specific device. You will need to use trial and error. Note that as the device get hot, the max overclock speed drops. It's a physics thing.

Longterm disadvantages to overclocking?

Has anyone noticed any long term disadvantages to overclocking the Wizard? Does the battery life permanently decrease? What speeds are you running yours at, and how long have you been doing it? Have you noticed anything at all which indicates it's not good for the hardware?
Cheers
reply
i believe that it's safe to overclock the mda...just set it at an acceptable rate (264mhz for me) and make sure not to run the battery all the way down...if you overclock the settings too high the device will freeze and reset (this is a fail safe procedure it goes through), so there is no need to worry...also don't overclock the settings too low as the phone becomes disfunctional when too low (about less than 132mhz for me)...the screen flickers because it's not being refreshed quick enough (my guess)...hope this helps...
I would set it to 240. I have done before, i'm just wondering if it's a bad idea leaving it permanently set to that level?
Cheers
yea you should be fine at that speed, but if you want you can overclock it higher if it will let you...just make sure that the phone is stable when using it...like i said in my earlier post my device is oc at 264mhz
Cool, thanks for your replies. How long have you had yours overclocked for? Do you use Smartskey?
Cheers
My self i ownly use it when need the extra speed, only with some games and wmv video files. I think it definitely lowers battery life and i would have worries about overclocking all the time and the long term effect it has on the processor (not so important if you only keep your wizard for a year and then change with a new contract - what i do new device once a year!) I found good speed gains with the registry wizard - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725
have not found overclocking produces that much extra speed.

Mine is also set at 264 24/7. Battery still lasts me all day. Been doing it since the oc program was found which I guess has been a couple of months.
Don't forget, you're wizard is only overclocked when it is active (i.e. not in standby mode). When your wizard goes into standby, it automatically goes back to the default 180mhz. Only when you bring it out of standby does it overclock again (assuming you're running it with smartskey with the option of overclocking on wakeup)
i'm using smartkey to constantly run at 264mhz...i have been doing this for a month now...like i said there is not really any problems with the batt unless you run it down totally...there was a post about this in the overclocking thread...the process is set low so that the phone will have a longer batt life...this was also stated in the overclocking thread...theoretically there is more wear if you overclock it since you are making the processor work harder, so use it at your own risk! if you want to be on the safe side then use smartkey and the overclocking prog in the same directory...then use total commander's note pad (while the ini file is highlighted) and change the value lower when you don't want it to constantly run at 264mhz or whatever speed you want to overclock or underclock at...just use it when needed, but i overclock mine constant 264mhz with great results combined with tweaks2k2, registry wizard, and of course the tmobile custom rom ...internet is a blast...just wish i could get it to run like the IE in a pc
anyways hope this helps out a bit further...
activesync
your activesync will hang allot if you overclock, I have noticed this.
DOnt know why.
For some reason i stumbled onto something, im sure its been mentioned b4 but when running Wisbar advance with a Windows vista skin done by xcillion, i am able to overclock my cingular 8125 to 288mhz at a stable rate with no problems at all, can run warcraft 2 full speed with over 50 units battling it out on screen, almost doubles browsing speed and i can run all the emulators including SNES at full speed with sound. when i dont have wisbar advance running i cant go past 240mhz clocking speed. I wonder has anyone else noticed this or gone higher than 288 without a freeze. Also, my battery life runs steady for a full day of browsing the internet talking on mobile messanger and listening to music at half volume for a full day.

hey sonic, where did you get your copy of warcraft 2 for windows mobile ?
I've never heard of warcraft for Windows mobile, how does it run on a 240 MHz overclock?
I got it from the Wargus engine. i can email you the files if need be, i dont want to jeprodize this sites reputation. The game last time i checked was free though...
Actually I'm not sure if it's the overclocking issue or not but ...
For couple of weeks now my Wizard's red led is on all the time, not like it is when your battery is very low but about half of this brightness. I'm not really worried about that, it doesn't change much but it may be connected with overclocking (it was 240 for about a month).
Another thing - once I had sth like 110% speed of every tone played, either a phone call or an incoming message.
It doesn't really matter to me since it's still working fine but it may mean that overclocking isn't that safe as we might think.

Overclock over 240MHZ...

Hi guys!
I see that my Jamin is stable at 240MHZ... what is, in your opinion, the hi stable overclock for the Jamin... ?
O2 Neo
Hi, i run my O2 Neo at 240 stable. I'll probably try even 252. It's summer so I wouldn't push it higher than that. 252 could be stable, but depends on conditions. Just try it for few days.
Running at 240 MHz, it the battery life MUCH reduced than using factory 200 MHz speed?
My opinion - 'Sligtly' is more accurate then MUCH. But i didn't measure it.
252 MHz for 2 month on my XDA Neo with JAMin ROM, without any problem. Battery life is good, did not really see any difference before and after overlocking.
Well, I have been running my wizard at 264 MHz for 4 months straight and it has never failed on me. i have it on all the time after standby and soft resets. ive also tried 276MHz for a while but i had to soft reset it almost twice a day.
BTW, increasing the clock higher than usual does not heat up your device. the most it would do is soft reset it. temperature running at 264mhz is mostly the same as running at factory speed. (well for me it has) dont know about some of you.

Overclok on Dopod 818pro
Guys, my device is Dopod 818pro, and i was using OmapClock.exe to OvClock my processor, but, when the first time i run this program, the clock speed, says 264 Mhz? is it supposed to be the correct Processor Speed?
I got confused as i read anywhere else that the default factory speed is only at 180 Mhz.
But why is it my device gives me a 264 Mhz on Clock Speed?
also i've tried all the guides and tricks to keep my Clock Speed at certain number (eg. 216 Mhz). such as using a MemMaid and etc. but still, i always got the number 264 Mhz and it won't change at all... neither after soft-reset nor stand-by.
Anyone got the same problems?
I forgot to mention, when the first time i bought this 818pro, i felt that my device run very fast, even faster than my friends HP 6828 and ATOM PURE. Did i get lucky or sumthin'?
Everything on my device is still on factory setting...
i removed the OmapClock and Other Utility Software..
also..... there is one more sw.... 'Pocket Hack Master' from http://www.antontomov.com.... have a look whether it has compatiblity with URs.....
might be helpful.....
Mine has been stable at 240MHz for 2 months so about 6 weeks ago I bumped it to 252MHz and is stable since.

thanks!

Try installing the demo of sktools - its the only program I know that shows the true processor speed.
i did over clock to my device into 240, and it's works normally, but i don't know how to know that my overclocking was success or not, where can i read the speed of processor after overclocked?

Yes you can 2 simple methods here
1. Using omapclockplus - see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56057
2. Use batterystatus plugin - displays Mhz on today screen and has omap functions inc device wakeup overclocking see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=55782
You could also use smartskey or notification queue method but above methods use easy install cabs.

Just tried - I agree, there is no big difference in battery life - similar autonomy than factory settings when running at 240 MHz...
Hi,
I really don't recommand to overclock the prophet over 240mhz.
I overclocked my first prophet @252mhz.
I had no crash problem with this overclocking, but it burned the bluetooth chipset.
Now i have a new one and have a permanent overclock @216mhz, and sometimes i overclock it @240mhz, but usually it' only to do some tests!
The 216mhz is more than enough to do what i want.

HTC Touch Overclock

Hi all,
I would like to know if anyone of you has already overclocked their beloved HTC Touch.
If yes, would you please post some screen captures of your Xcpuscalar configuration? (If I set it >220, my Touch reboot after a few seconds of use)
Which solution is the most reliable? XCPUScalar or OMAPClock?
Thanks a lot!

I am using xscalcpu w/o problems so far. i think mine is clocked to 400mhz and no problems so far (which means in the last 2 hours).

heya cyrilp,
would suggest you use batterystatus (link above), where you can easily set it to wakeup at the choice of speed.
if you're just using teh omapclock.exe then you'll have to insert wakeup @ speed in notifications.
Yes i juste did, it's perfect.
Thanks a lot !!
on my today's screen battery status instead of 260 MHz shown 60 MHz , on yours ?
Mine dispalyed 60 also till I realise it is the text size as there is a service provider overlapping cpu speed
Is it dangerous overclocking the Touch?
And do you notice any major improvement?
Actually I've noticed that if I overclock my Touch > 247MHz (with BatteryStatus), I'll have some sort of "stripes" visible on the 3D Cube background.
Am I alone with this?
stripes
never encounter with stripes problem on 3D cube when overclocking

Higest Overclocking?

i know this might b a stupid question and a question that has been asked alot... i did a search and couldnt find an answer but my question is what is the highest you overclocked your phone and it was stable? im currently running at 240 stable and im sure this will answer alot of questions for anybody who is new to overclocking thx in advanced
dont really think that that many people push it to the max
as both ram speed and sd ram interface being a much bigger bottleneck then cpu
so overclock is more likely to cost precious batt time then anything usefull
I've noticed that my MDA becomes unstable after 230 or so. I'm using an old 1.08 IPL/SPL rom if that has anything to do with it. I have Battery Status so I just use the CPU scaler and it works pretty well.
I'm running @ 232 and have been for months with no noticeable additional battery drain. Running a more-or-less stock WM5.
When i have some high quality video files or a bit more complex software that wizard can't handle at standard frequency (like quake), i run it @260MHZ without any problems. I went up to 273MHz a few times, and it worked fine with TCPMP, but i never used this setting for more than about 20 minutes. When i used different programs (not only the video player) and switched between them (read: normal pda use) i had a few system frezes @273MHz, so i don't consider it a safe setting
I use Battery Status to scale between 147 to 247 with boost set to 260. I have never once in 4 months had it lock up. I use a very stable rom though so that has to help. When using other less stable roms I was getting lock ups often.
