Hi people. Im about to change phone. Right now i am/was so willing to get X1, but it looks like that that i liked so much about my N series phone was the ability to install plenty of apps and games with no problems at all. It looks like this WM OS and phones with it differ at lot from each other and there are plenty of compatibility issues (ex. the WVGA screen limit5s games a LOT) emulators too (even with the hgher cpu they dont roon as smooth as in Symbian) and hell, a lot more things. i also think X1 screen, because of its 16:9 nature, is small for it being a touch screen....
im not sure few days ago saw nokia N97 and thought THAT is my thing, but wont be able to buy it on summer, only during this month, so cant wait...(i dont live in USa nor EU)
I was hoping you could give your advice about this, i like advance devices and OS, i somehow like WM, but never thought of its limits. NO, i dont want Touch HD nor any other only touchscreen phone. I liek keyborad, better if Kwerty. and even though BB's tempt me (all my friends have em) not willing to pay that much for such limited cell-phones.
Thanks in advance
I thought a resolution change will always affect the compatibility on any device regardless it is running on wm or symbian or android...
I just switch from a iphone and loving the x1.... it feels much smoother than my iphone... but maybe thats because I installed a lot of apps on it to slow the iphone down
you will need a little time to adjust for the new phone... but once you get use to it it almost feel like its just another touch screen with a keyboard for sms/email...
uhm.. thanks for answering...
any1 else???
went from n73 to this...must say im not looking back..only problem is the n73 loudspeaker was stronger..but who cares really

which N series did you have? If we are talking S60v3, then you should love WM in this regard. No signing of any kind or hacking the phone for doing more than just scratching the surface. I left Symbian mainly because of that (second reason being UIQ is dead and I refuse to be a betatester for Nokia's first touchscreen phones) and looked to what I thought was the best OS at the moment.

uhm well yeah that whole signin thing sucked... but still gotta admit s60v3 had way more apps and games than WM...
most of good WM good apps are kind of old and run at resolutions that would mean a ridiculously small display in a corner at Xperia's WVGA screen
I switched from a Nokia N95 and I hold it was the right decision.
The N95 was slow, the slider was poorly manufactured, the display resolution was bad. I even disliked the "registering 3rd party programs before installing"-crap.
Also the webbrowser crashed with nearly all the sites I use and the EMail-client did not do as I wanted.
And although all the functions I wanted to use did not work, the battery was gone after one day.
Maybe I just had bad luck, but for me it was my first Nokia and it definitely was my last!
I was very disappointed with the N95 because I thought I'll get a smartphone but I just got an overprized ordinary mobile phone with a quite good camera and a 3.5mm phonejack.
Now, with the X1, I really have a pocketpc. It checks EMails every 10min, I can install all the 3rd party programs I want, the display is fantastic and for the games that don't work with the wvga resolution, I simply use WVGAfix3 (the 2nd version made a lot of problems with my phone).
I now have a scheduler, navigation system, messenger, pocketpc and a phone in one device.
Of course, I encountered a few problems, but I'm confident they will be gone with the first update.
I stopped with symbian at the Nokia 6310i (what an amazing battery life - thing wouldn't die!).
From then the Prophet, Trinity, Kaiser, Raphael and now Xperia.
Anyway, I think the Xperia is the best so far, and windows mobile definately has lots of opportunities (just past early adopter stage). I must admit, I spend a lot of time tweaking, customising etc - but it's nice that you can do that.
Previous phones were a little unstable, but so far Xperia is 100% reliable. Haven't had any problems (reliability wise). Expensive though, so maybe its an idea to go try both in the store first?
A friend of mine had the N95 (I think) and cursed and swore every day because he was reflashing it left right and center.
Besides that, I find WM more compatible with the office things I need (at this point).
just try both device before you buy...
I'm using xperia for a month right now, and I'm satisfied with it, I admit that initial firmware/ROM needs lot of fixes, but I'm sure future ROM will improve xperia x1...
with symbian you can't fix issues yourself, with winmobile you can, and both system have issues on new devices.
Afterall the matter is: do you need a phone that can be used a pda (symbian) or a pda that can be used for make phone calls (winmobile)?

ok, but many of those 6700 are only minor tweaks, like making this icon bigger, or organization, hundreds of chnage interface things which are not that determining (does that word exist?)
game on WM are mostly boring against Symbian's...(example, WM= 1000 variations of each: Bejeweled, Solitaire, and other blocks/cards games; Symbian has of all genres)
thats what ive noticed on most sites (including warezs) and nice games ive found, already said this, are not exactly very compatible with X1 screen. Yes, there is WVGAFix3 (which, for what ive read, doesnt apply for everything) but still to see half of the screen in black...dunno... :S
anyways, im going al the way with X1 as my first WM device, optimistic.
Hey folks,
being XPERIA owner for two months, I was often annoyed by the slugginess, bad operationality and quite many [small] issues.
Now I've ordered and got an "Android Dev Phone 1" (= HTC Dream = T-Mobile G1) and I love it! The interface is clean and smooth, it feels so much faster now! Sure some things aren't implemented yet (eg. virtual keybord or synchronization with Outlook) but I actually don't need them, and most of them will come already with the next Android update in Jan/Feb.
So I'm now swithing to the "HTC Dream" section and to other forums.
Any questions à la "Android vs Windows" or "X1 vs G1" are welcome here, though.
Best regards,
Vygi
I tried that phone in the T-mobile shop when I was still waiting for the X1 to appear and didn't like anything about it.. still - each to their own!
i like the design of X1 better than the G1. but i like linux (using on laptop to).
it would be nice to run android on X1

The G1 didn't do it for me since it has a low-res 480x320 screen. Even now, with the X1's mighty WVGA screen I sometime wish it was even sharper, something like 1024x600 would do just fine .
Tweaking and a couple of apps loaded onto the phone, my Xperia is working awesome! I love it more than i did my iPhone! startup is a bit slow... meh! but who cares!
Anyways... G1 doesn't appeal to me... and besides - if i do like any next release of Android or even Blackberry OS, i'll unload Windows off of Xperia and load 'em onto Xperia.
Actually I'm still shocked how awful WM is. I used phone and Palm T5 before and I wanted to have all in one package, so I went for Xperia.
While the device is nice, that software is bad, bad, bad. Everything is slow, ill designed, all freeware I found is full of bugs, even lot's of commercial software simply does not work.
What is also shocking me is while my T5 is two years old now, it plays movies 20% better then Xperia (TCPMP on Palm, CorePlayer on Xperia) !
Maybe it's a bit early for Android, but WM is just crap, it must be all started over. PalmOS was great, and there is no replacement.
I say bring on NVIDIA Tegra chip based mobiles with WinMo7. :O

The market & reality tells it all. If PalmOS is so great, it wouldn't be dying like the way it is now. It UI (especially the input method) was so hard to use and handle for ordinary people. It may run smoother and more efficiently than WM, but the real truth is it's does not handle multi-tasking.
It would be cool to have Android on the X1 next to WinMo. I hope the guys over here can get it to work properly:

Not sure if they're still working on it though..

I used SKTools, Advanced configuration Tool, and XperiaTweak to tweak up my Xperia's performance.
I also installed HTC's Touch HD's keyboard but didn't like it, especially when it opened slow at times and so on... so i uninstalled that and moved to SPB Keyboard - which is AWESOME!
Then... i installed IneSoft AddressBook + Phone. Way quicker than Xperia's AddressBook/Contacts and dialer, quicker, and a cool looking Today screen add-in. Really Fast! And i totally love it! (i like the dialer better than HTC's TF3D Dialer as well).
With these tweaks and apps, and a few additional freeware stuff (like flash today screens, battery indicators, and so on) my Xperia is functioning really fast and without problems.
FYI - i also have panels running and TF3D installed as a Panel (which is running way smoother and faster after using SKTools to tweak up the device). I also have Winterface installed, though barely ever use it - it is enabled though in the background. I also have Push Mail enabled on the device which works flawlessly - as it did on my iPhone. And over 10 games installed working without any lags.
I won't lie, but there are occassional hiccups/lags, but not as much for one to notice. (even my iPhone faced quite a couple of lags and hang-ups once i installed apps onto it and so on). The only thing i hate at this point is the startup of the device... oh and the Facebook panel, which has the tendency to crash sometimes...
Best Regards.

Yep... i updated it. And it is improved, a lot! but still has the tendency to crash at times. Mostly when it is refreshing the main page and i hit the Panel button (not always, but usually) and a few other random occurrences...

My experiences aren't so extreme but I feel somewhat the same: great hardware, but lame operating system, bad and non-uniform operatibility, and so on. When I ask "how to do this" or "how to manage that", often I get advices to apply registra hacks and use special system tweaks or install some additional software. When after them the system is slow of some strange issues appear - then I have to blyme myself, because I have too many things installed and too many settings changed!
Now I have found an alternative which costs 20% less and is about 200% better (faster/more stable) to me!
There are actually just very few things I like more on Xperia:
- better battery
- better screen resolution
- light sensor to change screen brightess
And there are things which are better on DevPlone1 (G1/Dream):
- much much better user interface
- generally much faster, no freezes/blackouts/pauses
- great multitasking/task switching (eg. the browser starts in 0,5 sec)
- compass and g-sensor available
- better keyboard
- better speaker
- great integration of online Email, Contacts, Calendar
- software easy to find and to install
- faster battery charging
Next year many other Android devices will be available, and I maybe I will take another one, but also with the current Dream/G1/DevPhone1 I am much more happy than with X1!
In short... For me, when i played with HTC Touch Diamond (my cousin's) i liked the power of Windows Mobile but was totally NOT impressed by the usual lags and bugginess of the device... so i was really concerned if Windows Mobile would be a good choice (i was looking at the Blackberry Bold as an alternative to WinMo). Eventually, i decided to go with X1 and though initially it was better than i expected but not that good either, after a tweak here and there and a little enhancements the Xperiance has turned out be quite ideal. Sure laggy at times (though not occassional), but it is turning out to be the device i thought it would be, if not better!

Though Windows Mobile is more professional of an OS, and tweaking + optimizing can make the experience better... but there's no denying that Android holds a lot of potential - especially being Open Source!!!
When i look at the G1 phone i'm more like "Bleh!", but i do like Android. When more features come - including Microsoft Exchange and a full office suite (maybe these are already available... not sure) and more - and it all comes loaded into a better looking phone, i might go for it as well. But i'll definitely be holding onto my Xperia. It is by far the best windows mobile device ever! and regardless of the not-so-usual lags and Windows Mobile bugs/limitations... i don't regret purchasing it at all.
I will probably end up buying an Android phone in the near future as well and then have three phones to myself...
Microsoft really needs to step up and get one heck of a Windows Mobile 7 operating system released as soon as possible! And having tested Windows 7 on my desktop - seeing how Microsoft is finally going in the right direction, i'm positive that they will surprise us this time with a Windows Mobile that actually performs better than any other OS out there.
are you selling your X1 i would like to buy it please PM me
Thank you; no Microsoft anymore: not 6th, nor 7th nor 8th++.
Two months were more that enough.
Now I enjoy the speed and power of Android** (the 1st!) every single minute.
**) it might be Nokia N97 with the touch-screen-capable Symbian S60 as well.... it just comes too late to me.

Of course if the so-called "market" (read cartel) had any sort of bloody clue whatsoever, we wouldn't have been held back 10 years on desktop PCs with a crappy, inferior 8086 archtecture. PalmOS isn't any great shakes, but any OS like WM that takes 5 seconds to dismiss a "SMS sent" notification on high-end hardware should have been drowned at birth, and failing that should be put out of it's misery post-haste! Free Software FTW!

When the time comes... we'll see. Officially i don't think so, but i'm sure we'll see cooked roms flying in in no time!
Hi all,
I have been using WM devices for a few years now and I guess you could say that I'm not really all that impressed. I started with the wizard and then the tytn/hermes. I have flashed roms numerous times and find the whole ordeal to be a bit tiring. It was somewhat of an adventure at first, but after a while I just want a phone that works right and doesn't take much work.
Is the X1 that phone? Is it a straight WM6 rom or has SE made its own enhancements to it? For a guy who just wants the phone to work well right out of the box and not to mess with it a whole lot, might this be the phone for me?
I very much appreciate any opinions you might share.
I have had my first WM device X1 for only about 4 months, but I totally agree. I had SE W960 (with UIQ) for a year and I'm getting tired from all that modding-and-still-not-working, too.
But on the topic, X1 has some SE things like the panels and panel manager, phone interface, from R3A firmware SW keyboard and xtrakt game and maybe some other stuff. Although I don't own X1 for too long, but basing on what I read about WM and my own xperience, I think X1's original ROM is stable, fast, without serious bugs and generally well optimized. I'm currently using R2AA008 UK ROM, R2AA010 is said to be even better. So I think X1 will satisfy your needs without too much modding. But it's still WM, you can't avoid it completely.
Just to share one thought, I'm seriously thinking about buying a high-end SE dumb phone as a secondary to X1, it might solve your problem as well
The X1 will perform pretty well out of the box (or at least with the latest official update) but it can also run better with some of the ROM's/MOD's available on this forum. So to answer your question yes this phone will be a good out of the box performer, and the option to mod will always be here should you reattain your thirst for adventure.
I ve had 2 WM phones over the past 3 years. They were very buggy, and required much effort, with custom ROMs, just to to make them decent. Especially my latest one (MIO A701) has never reached a decent level of usability, no matter the very good custom ROMs, due to crappy OEM drivers, which were never updated, by Mitac. BTW, the worst user support I've ever experienced.
X1 is a different animal. There are almost no bugs in the latest official ROM R2AA010.
As long as you just only do a couple of adviced performance tweaks, located easily at this site and you only use official tested & stable apps, most probably you will not face any issue.
Now, if you start messing with beta / experimental / brand new / cool staff then you'll have to invest some effort fixing here and there, but, after all, it's your decision and responsibility.
Personally, I would like to fall into the 2nd category; I somehow like the game; but I can't really do it extensively, because no free time.
But it's good that we have the choice, thanks to this site.
To make your answer very simple - No.
You will need to flash ROMs to make it a good phone. Out of the box, it's best would be ok.

+1. Even I hate iPhone for it's lack of functionalities and limitation. If all your need is out of the box experience and you don't want to spend time w/ WM. iPhone is probably a better choice for you.
Thanks for the input, guys. I actually don't mind flashing a rom once. Twice, would rather not. Three times, definitely not.
Does anyone have experience with the Tytn/hermes? How do you think this device performs compared to that?
My previous phone was a TYTN II (tilt). I find the xperia far superior. It's faster, less buggy, easier to navigate, and has more cool features than the TYTN. The hardware is sleeker and of higher quality. I can hardly stand to do anything with my tilt after using the xperia.
And as far as flashing a ROM to the xperia - I found it quite easy and quick, and somehow less complicated than flashing a tilt.

Same here. But I do missed some nice design of Tytn II. The "tilt" design for reading while eating. Easy to take out the sim and sd card

Ok guys, let's be fair.
I have X1 for 17 months and this device is a really great companion.
Reliable, working, stable, powerful, all fine.
Now it's few days after X2 upgrade and I'm sorry, but right now this is a disaster.
Whether I don't get something or this device is a biggest shame I've seen in my life.
Basically this is unpredictable, unstable, unfinished and not proper
piece of ************* crap I've used.
Current behaviour of X2 is like a first firmwares I've seen on P990,
few years back.
After upgrade I've had like 6 freezes through 48 hours - WTF is that?!
Freezing without any reason - just with normal, ordinary actions I do!
The software is completely not optimized at all, looks like a ****ing BETA!!!
I just can't believe it. Just can't believe
they really released this piece of crap.
Unbelievable. This is constantly crashing device.
Once SlideView crashed. Once camera stopped working - soft reset.
Now it crashed after playing a movie from the Total Commander.
It's even more **** - today I opened default WM image gallery and
used it's basic edit functions - used automatic contrast.
Wanted to save and what! Bum - the device cannot save it! Maybe after cropping it,
the device says.... Like a lack of memory!
I mean - I know what software is, always has it's glitches, right.
But what is happening to X2 is like really really bad joke!!!!!!!
Guys, do you think that the problem may be in a wrong upgrade?!
I don't believe it.
So, in fact the 600 Euro piece behaves like a beta stage.
Definitely, the X2 goes back to SE, I want my money back.
You won't **** with me anymore.
Unacceptable. Too much.
I was a fan of SE smartphones (used P800, P910, P990, P1, X1)
All of them served well.
This X2 not. Over. Never gonna buy any SE in my life.
And I think they'll never learn. Never.
In the competitive and tight smartphone market, they are rude enough
to release something like that. And stupid.
Of course I'll not leave it this way. I'll spread the info around.
P.S.
As regarding X1 people experiences were very different,
but generally feedback was good and deserved.
X2 has huge negative feedback right now and I'm not alone.
Besides xda forums, just look at
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/produc...able/#comments
What is there is amazing. 90% of negative comments after upgrade.
This device didn't bahave like this before!!!
What about you guys?
I'm absolutely agree with you.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is a nice piece of Hardware, but is a complete mess in terms of Software.
Maybe calling Tech Blogs to post this news would help SE to fix the phone.

It's really terrible for you guys. It is very arrogant of SE to do this. They don't have their act together, and they need to pay the price. I like the suggestion above. You might somehow try to get this whole debacle picked up by the gadget sites like Engadget, though I don't know how. I know their editors browse these forums. They might run it on a slow news day (remember they ran the X1 "cracks" story, and they run firmware stories all the time).
It's a frustrating time for WM fans, because there are very few cutting edge choices for us these days.
I dont know whats the cause but when i left the phone alone for a while and then i try to turn on the screen, it stays black, if i slide the keyboard the keys get illuminated but the screen is still off.. so i have to reset for 15th time…
Also i get a lot of troubles with the memory card, sometimes it works and the phone detects it but sometimes it takes several resets and ejects/inserts of the card to make it work…
Whats going on!?!?!?!?!?
I feel exactly the same. it's the worst phone i ever had.
i will not buy any more **** from SE. The X1 was a really nice device but this???
No more. and i am sure that SE is in here on XDA and reading to get some feedback and to you i have just one question:
how can you sleep at nights?
Low_down
SE totally lost its way with smartphones after P910 PERIOD!!. Each new device after P910 was worse than its predecessor. When i thought P990 was unstable and slow (skipping P1i that was too little too late and with its own downgrades), along came X1 which i found out to be even worse than P990. I dont know what the reviewers were smoking when they tested X1 out starting from bad build quality & durability (cracks in casing, keyboard issues etc), hardware (useless camera, speakerphone and illumination gimmik) and right down to software (Windows Mobile, worst call audio i've encountered in any mobile phone i've used so far, video playback and the list goes on)!!
Its quite clear to me that at SE there's no such word as "improvement" and "lesson learnt" anymore. Instead of rectifying their issues with a jewel of a platform like UIQ (which would have been much cheaper and more productive for both SE and Symbian) they choose to sleep around with every other slut of a operating system they can find out on the street. SE is nothing but a lost cow now.

Heh funny
but I feel bad because of different reasons!!!
After P990 which became usable after half a year
P1 was a pleasurable experience.
And than came X1 which is the best of all of them
working beautifully for the last 17 months on stock ROM!
So encouraged by that I bought X2.
And received a massive slap in the face,
I mean this time collectively almost all of the X2 users
agree - this is beyond acceptance.
i thought sony hit their peak with the P1i. near perfect phone in my opinion. i had it over a year and sold it to a friend and hes had it ever since. still going strong and faultless. a joy to use... only took them 6 generations of P phones to do it but then they ditched the series and started again with the X phones.
as to the X2, i firmly lay the blame with microsoft not sony... the hardware was designed by sony this time and is top notch. but all the problems stem from the WM interface. sony try their hardest to hide the limitations of the operating system but it still shows through. i do like WM and the variety of customisation available, but that strength is also its weakness. same as with windows on a pc. because it can be customised so much its impossible to avoid conflicts and bugs. no two X2s are the same. we've all got a different selection of software on our phones with different options and settings. its near impossible to test for all combinations. they fix one bug and another is introduced somewhere else as a result. i dont think its any coincedence that for the X10 and other proposed X phones theyre not using WM anymore....
a new bug that ive spotted thats really annoying:- my phone now randomly turns off! either that or it crashes to a black screen. i have to remove the battery to be able to restart it. done it 4 or 5 times now...
i do like the X2, when it works its brilliant but when it fails it fails immensly. my only hopes are the the next update fixes the **** ups of this update...or someone figures out how to make custom roms and fixes the problems..
I agree. I am designer. I will design a beautiful poster for This Xperia-X2 best stupid phone and publish it on my Facebook address.
I can't stand anymore to this phone. Now I am afraid if I have miscalled or sms. The phone freeze. Damn. Soo... what is X2 for? a telecommunication or decoration?
I remember X1, first release and got bugs too. but we can use tips and trick to custom it. just 1 thing in X1 that I don't like. The volume is too soft. But X2? Huh! what can we do to this stupid phone???

Of course, when it works it's a marvellous piece.
It freezes or refuses to perform basic actions every one or two hours.
I have only 3 or 4 apps installed...
I disagree on the system - I fully blame SE for this incompetent
rude behaviour.
How many other devices on market work on WM 6.5?
Many!!!
If the OS is ****ed - you don't release an update to the customer until it works, as simple as that!
We don't talk about some bugs.
We talk about a basic inability to WORK.
-------
Now it's all clear.
They were ****ed and late with the device from the beginning.
The first version did not operate some hardware planned features - radio, videocall.
Why? They were late, incompetent and poor.
Now, the new release, BESIDES those huge problems
REMOVES some present before functionality like autorotating.
Why? Because they cannot deal with this.
Because they're incompetent.
They remove the games.
Why?
Because:
1. They use motion sensor so now you cannot play them.
2. They implemented too little memory in the device (idiots!!!)
to leave the games WITH added videocall and radio.
There's 3% possibility that I'm wrong
but my theory is:
X2 will never be OK.
It's probably ****ed exactly the same way P990 was.
I can't believe I was such an idiot and believed in anything
they do.
I agree with doministry
They maybe got confused and packed a pre pre pre beta as the final release.. hahaha
seriously, I want my +$500 phone working SE
lol its funny to see the blog is down too with the complaints doministry posted lol

Yes mam!
I've never felt so pissed.
I was waiting patiently for 2 weeks or more for an upgrade
not posting any negative comment.
But what happens now is beyond me.
I also wrote to WmPoweruser and Engadget mobile about this.
lol now i dont feel so bad of waiting on the hd2 to drop its price or buy the htc evo this summer

the p1i was more than perfect even the body build is still the best... the P1i IMO was the best smartphone SE ever made

Well personally I'm even more happy with X1
really.
P1 was a masterpiece though.
SE,Xperia X2
I has use HTC TynT.ll Kaiser
SE.Xperia.X1
and SE.Xperia X2
I feel exactly the same.X2. it's the worst phone i ever had.
i will not buy any more **** from SE. The X1 was a really nice device but this???
- Weaking Signal than HTC
-X2 also can't Download any city Maps from TomTom Navigate ,even 1 free city ( X1 can ,and working with TomTom Navigate )
- X2,camera with 8 Mega Pix sound good but Blury,no good picture.
- Not good technical Suport .just seat and waiting some one find and fix trouble for them , this is bad.
I say. I will never ever buy SE phone again
This make me remember when Sony CO come out Beta Video Tape, all it bad.

Wow. For a while I thought that doministry's account got hacked since he was the #1 person who'd argue with people who had anything negative to say against the x2 (even x2 users)
If that's not case, glad to see you're man enough to admit you're wrong, mate.
Sony is replacing my X1a with an X2a. I had very little interest in the X2a so I am not well informed about this phone.
Should I be happy? I really love the X1. I supplement my nexus one with it when I travel.
I would really love to hear from X1 users who have migrated to the X2. Thank you.
Heh it's a "stinky" subject here.
I mean basically we cannot say different: SE screwed this.
Because they didn't release finished Firmware.
And that is the shame. Big shame.
I did convert from X1 to X2.
And to be honest, in almost every area X2 is better than X1.
Screen, construction, camera, UI, Qwerty keyboard.
I use it as my device.
Besides stability.
Simple:
X1 = Hardware: FAIL / Software: OK
X2 = Hardware: OK / Software: FAIL
Al least, you can protect an X1 with cases. But, the X2 is a excellent phone when it's turned off.
Cheers.
Well, I can say I use it as my only device.
And if I reboot it every few days, it's flawless.
You guys are funny. I had a good laugh because I know the xperia series all have some quirks. Thanks for the info.
I read some reviews saying the screen response was worse than the X1. Any opinions?

Why laugh? I was trying to be informative.
The screen in the latest FW is OK, slightly worse than X1,
or actually I'd say different: X1 required very short touch to response,
X2 requires longer taps. But works well.
the shop gave me x2 in february when they couldnt repair my x1. but if i knew then what i know now about x2 i would rather ask them for moneyback or some other high end device.
X1 in 2009 was a great phone (still my favourite), but x2 in 2010 is hardwarewise a midle range phone (almost the sam cpu and ram as htc tattoo). pricewice is a high end phone. software vise is an sorry excuse for a phone.
i would never take the x2 in february with the experience i have now with it.
i cant imagine that some folks had to pay for this phone (if i can even call it that). its like 400-500€ that got trown away.
my opinion.
I think that the bad opinion about the X2 is due to the old firmwares.
I bought mine 10 days ago and I'm happy with it.
The X2, now, is far from perfect, but isn't absolutely a crap phone.
It is doing everything I need (other than pbap) and I'm still using it instead of the milestone, although the latter is now almost perfect on the sw side, and has a powerfull HW.
I'm still prefer the X2 over the milestone, because the keyboard, because the optical Dpad available in portrait, because I can choose between operamini and opera mobile, because the battery life, because the form factor, because I can watch almost any movie w/o any conversion process, and last but not least, because I don't like the "bigbrotherness" of the android devices.

I've been using SE phones for a very long time so I know how they operate. I like their phones and try to be lighthearted when trying to deal with either their software or hardware shortcomings. Thankfully we have awesome contributors here at XDA who help address these flaws.
I appreciate everyone who took time to read my post and then reply. I will be delving deeper into this forum when I get my hands on the phone.
You must take X2.
Brother in my opinion you must take X2. its a great phone.
Doesnt matter about software soon we are going to get fix for everything..as you have been using X1 you must be knowing that it' software was also crappy in the starting but updates and contributions by developers made it the best phone...i hope n sure that same thing wil happen with X2.
But decision is yours..you cant get any other high-end product from SE. as X2 is the product whether its rate, camera, screen resolution etc.
i use x2:
- screen size (HD2 is too big)
- qwerty
need a little more stable and it will be perfect
Hmmm X2...
I love my X1 to death. I've had it since it was first released! I bought the X2 recently, prepping it as a gift for my significant other. OMG, I'm having a hard time navigating through this thing; menu lagging and slow, confusing options.
I'm so used to the typical WM6 today screen, I'm still looking into the X2 having it.
Its not a bad decision to 'upgrade', but just takes time to get used to I guess.
Good luck!

Hahaha. I know exactly what you are talking about. I flashed a 6.5 rom for the X1 a while back. I used it for a few weeks and gave up. I went back to the stock rom and couldn't have been happier. I liked the X1's today screen because all notifications are conveniently on the main screen.
Oh well time to get used to another interface.
The replacement came in
Well, the replacement phone came in. I have to say that the firmware that came stock with the phone was terrible. It was absolute trash compared to the X1's. I've updated to the latest firmware on 8/26 which I'm assuming is the MR2 referenced here in the forums. It's much faster and more stable than stock. I could say that I can actually work with the thing.
Quick questions:
1. I looked in the FAQs and the last post update was in may. Should I apply the X2 SDfix.cab as recommended or has there been more developments since then?
2. Will some of the functions of XperiaTweek work with the X2 if I install it?
3. Is registry hacking still needed for the accelerometer and gps?
4. Will cleartemp still work?
P.S. I didn't expect the phone to be completely crappy out of the box. Now that I've experienced what you early X2 users have gone through, I wouldn't find your situation humorous.
SDFix is a MUST.
ClearTemp works perfect..
GPS I don't know.......
Accelerometer can be enabled by SE app available in PlayNow.
Gps works perfectly with most sw navigon/igo8/tomtom and so on.
With older sw you need to configure the gps to use the old styled serial port (eg: com4) instead of the newer gpd device.
