Is warranty exchange possible on unlocked tmobile G1? - G1 General

I am using an tmobile g1 on at&t. My "p" key is barely working, and the phone is freezing up, then rebooting itself. is it possible to send this phone into HTC for a warranty exchange, or am i out of luck since its unlocked, not on tmobile and rooted?

You need a T-mobile account with the phone on the account to exchange it.

Try unrooting and returning it completely to stock ROM, SPL, and recovery img. If it still does the same things, then I would think that you might be able to return it to HTC on a manufacturer defect warranty claim. Maybe.

returning unlocked phone

Hi. Thanks to these forums, I have been able to unlock, upgrade and tweak my phone. I then lost my phone and bought a new one from someone who had unlocked and tweaked the phone as well.
I started having problems with my new phone and it would freeze a lot, only to be reset by a hard reset. I would like to return this new phone to Cingular and get a replacement.
Cingular's warranty policy is void when installing these upgrades and tweaks, let alone the serial numbers from the phone purchased originally from them is different from the one I have now.
Will Cingular put up a stink about this? What should I do to return my phone and get a new one?
The fact that the serial numbers are different means they probably won't do the exchange. They didn't provide you with a warranty on the phone you have ,they provided a warranty on the phone you lost.

Revert back to the original ROM that came with the phone and make sure you go back to the IPL/SPL then return the phone. They arent going to look to see if its unlocked or not if it looks like they way the ship it out.
I have done this more than once btw and with different phones then the one I was shipped.
Is there a workaround for the serial numbers being different? That is my main problem.
Never had an issue sending a different phone regardless of serial number
Thanks Peraltah.
Has anyone else had similar success sending in a phone with a different serial number?
I've had success, I bought an 8125 from someone, but it started having issues. I then called cingular and they promptly sent me a replacement. Keep in mind the 8125 I bought was to replace my Motorola v551, so different phones and serial numbers!!

return mda/wizard to t-mo, restore factory lock?

I have an MDA from T-Mobile still under the 1 year warranty. I sent one back in because I bricked it (G4) and they sent me a refurb (G3). It was fine for a few months but now has an issue with the screen where a white background and opening a menu will send it haywire (I don’t have a pic right now, this evening I can post one if necessary). I’ve decided to send this one back (never dropped, never abused). As it stands right now, its application and cid unlocked running TNT 5.0. My question is whether I should go through relocking it when I send it back or just load the latest tmo rom and send it in?

Options for Bricked Phone

What are the my options for bricked MyTouch3G phone which boot with Vodafone logo?
1. Indefinitely wait for technical solution to un-brick the phone.
2. Sell the parts
3. Confess to T-Mobile customer service and see if they will take it back with some repair fee.
4. HTC warranty service
5. Just call T-Mobile tech support regarding a red boot up screen.
What have done with your bricked phone (mytouch, magic or g1)?
Anyone try option 3 or 4 successfully?
Update 08/18/2009:
Success on Option 5:
I call T-mobile tech support regarding the red boot up screen issue, after talkingg to two helpdesk person, and try Home+Power a few times and tech support have determined they will replace the phone and since I'm in California within 30 days of purchased, I can go to T-Mobile store and get an exchange. The tech support put a note in the system to indicate exchange will need to be done. Today I walk into T-Mobile store and as usual after a long wait, they exchange the phone without question or even bother booting up the phone. I would recommend anyone with MyTouch brick follow the same procedure and do it as soon as possible. I hope they won't bill me later. T-Mobile customer service is great.
quick question Waacow, can you get into fastboot and/or recovery? Also, I saw in the other thread you said that you successfully switched to the 32A radio, did you revert back to the 32B radio before flashing the OTA Rom?
No I couldn't get into fastboot or recovery. (back button + power / menu + power / home + power). none of them works.
Regarding the 32B radio, after i successfully switch to 32A radio+ROM, I did NOT flash the ION radio first. I just flash the OTA Rom (which also has radio firmware - i would think it is a 32B radio) and I suspect that is the reason why it bricked. I should have follow the Daredevil instruction completely.

In Japan, I called HTC Japan, but they said they didn't handle carrier customized device.
So I should deal with Docomo, but also I should pay $50 for replacement.
I just bricked mine today, chatting with online support. They will replace it, its just a matter of if I can pick one up in store or not.
UPDATE: "_Amber G: The MyTouch is supported as an In-Store Exchange, but we cannot guarantee availability in the store. "
I bricked my phone and it was past the remorse period it would turn on but with the red Vodaphone splash screen so no way to cover that up. Luckily, I still kept my handset insurance on my phone. So I called Asurion, Paid the deductible for the phone and the next day I had a brand new phone and all. All i had to do was send back the phone its self not back or battery. So basically I have extra backing, battery, Case, Wall charger, Everything, Even the black my touch case it came in. Yeah, I paid for 2 phones but hey I don't have to worry about not having a spare battery on long trips I have one and that is the actual branded not some off brand and the spares are 50 bucks a pop.
So I lucked OUT so lucky, And I said I would not attempt to root my phone what happens 1 week after my replacement new root method.
And Yes I did successfully rooted my phone with the 1 Click method. Running CYAN 4.0.1 Rom. LOVE IT. I really want the hero rom but Im not sure I want to do the extra steps to do it.
Anyone else have an experience like mine?
I think i just bricked my MT3G. All i have is the green MY TOUCH screen.I can get the fast boot screen and recovery but no nandroid back up.Its gone.I believe sd card is corrupted.any help would be grateful or am i screwed

I had the same exact experience as you. I tried to root mine the goldcard way the day the method was posted online. My friend and co-worker was also rooting his myTouch at the same time. We both followed the same instructions but he succeded and i failed.
Once I had my hands on my new myTouch i refused to root it because I was too scared and my friend kept bugging me to root it since I got him to root his G1 after I did mine.
Yesterday my friend told me about the 1 click method and I'm also running cyan 4.0.1 rom
So I ended up paying for the full price of the myTouch but I have spare everything. I guess I got lucky too

Since you can get to fast boot and recovery you are not screwed. Look around the forums for help cause there are step by step instructions on how to recover from your situation.

if you can get to a fastboot screen, you can still save your phone. load up Amon_RA's recovery through fastboot and boot up to it.

Exchanging phone with tmobus

I had been having issues with my hd2 thinking it was in car mode and not recognizing it was plugged into a computer so i called tmobile and they are sending me a replacement phone and ill just mail mine back to them. I have a custom rom and hspl on it. How hard is it to revert it back to the original spl/is it even necesarry? Basically i dont wanna get a charge for a 400$ phone on my next phone bill.
There are many guides to reverting back to stock, which you probably would have found if you have tried searching.
T-Mobile, however, will charge you a $100 dollar fee if you have voided the warranty in any way. Whether or not they check if you have HSPL is something I don't know.

[Q] Sending in my HD2 for warranty

Hey guys Im sending in my HD2 to T-mobile for a warranty repair.
As probably some of you know the touchscreen doesnt work sometimes when you try to unlock the pnone.
I reported this to T-mobile and they said they would send me a new one as long as i send in my old one.
My problem is they said they will charge like a $90.00 fee if the phone i send in doesnt show the symptoms i reported (the frozen touchscreen).
This problem happens SOMETIMES but not all the time (basically 2/3rds of the time), my question is how do i finally push the digitizer to the limit and completely make it useless that way i wont have this problem.
My second question is when removing the HSPL wit handroid and everything, does that give me the default splash screen?
I will appreciate any help thats offered. Thanks

Why did you try to contact HTC instead of the carrier. The company that make the device would more likely fix their problem than the network company. If you really have to let T-mobile fix it then insist there is a problem no matter what. But I would check with HTC first what they can do for you.
You ask about HSPL, I assumed you already root your phone. You need to flash the original radio if you have already flashed a different one. Then flash original 6.5 stock. Check this site for further instruction.

Just Flash a Tmous stock ROM thru SD card method....this wipes everything and returns spl to stock as well...
