What are the my options for bricked MyTouch3G phone which boot with Vodafone logo?
1. Indefinitely wait for technical solution to un-brick the phone.
2. Sell the parts
3. Confess to T-Mobile customer service and see if they will take it back with some repair fee.
4. HTC warranty service
5. Just call T-Mobile tech support regarding a red boot up screen.
What have done with your bricked phone (mytouch, magic or g1)?
Anyone try option 3 or 4 successfully?
Update 08/18/2009:
Success on Option 5:
I call T-mobile tech support regarding the red boot up screen issue, after talkingg to two helpdesk person, and try Home+Power a few times and tech support have determined they will replace the phone and since I'm in California within 30 days of purchased, I can go to T-Mobile store and get an exchange. The tech support put a note in the system to indicate exchange will need to be done. Today I walk into T-Mobile store and as usual after a long wait, they exchange the phone without question or even bother booting up the phone. I would recommend anyone with MyTouch brick follow the same procedure and do it as soon as possible. I hope they won't bill me later. T-Mobile customer service is great.
quick question Waacow, can you get into fastboot and/or recovery? Also, I saw in the other thread you said that you successfully switched to the 32A radio, did you revert back to the 32B radio before flashing the OTA Rom?
No I couldn't get into fastboot or recovery. (back button + power / menu + power / home + power). none of them works.
Regarding the 32B radio, after i successfully switch to 32A radio+ROM, I did NOT flash the ION radio first. I just flash the OTA Rom (which also has radio firmware - i would think it is a 32B radio) and I suspect that is the reason why it bricked. I should have follow the Daredevil instruction completely.

In Japan, I called HTC Japan, but they said they didn't handle carrier customized device.
So I should deal with Docomo, but also I should pay $50 for replacement.
I just bricked mine today, chatting with online support. They will replace it, its just a matter of if I can pick one up in store or not.
UPDATE: "_Amber G: The MyTouch is supported as an In-Store Exchange, but we cannot guarantee availability in the store. "
I bricked my phone and it was past the remorse period it would turn on but with the red Vodaphone splash screen so no way to cover that up. Luckily, I still kept my handset insurance on my phone. So I called Asurion, Paid the deductible for the phone and the next day I had a brand new phone and all. All i had to do was send back the phone its self not back or battery. So basically I have extra backing, battery, Case, Wall charger, Everything, Even the black my touch case it came in. Yeah, I paid for 2 phones but hey I don't have to worry about not having a spare battery on long trips I have one and that is the actual branded not some off brand and the spares are 50 bucks a pop.
So I lucked OUT so lucky, And I said I would not attempt to root my phone what happens 1 week after my replacement new root method.
And Yes I did successfully rooted my phone with the 1 Click method. Running CYAN 4.0.1 Rom. LOVE IT. I really want the hero rom but Im not sure I want to do the extra steps to do it.
Anyone else have an experience like mine?
I think i just bricked my MT3G. All i have is the green MY TOUCH screen.I can get the fast boot screen and recovery but no nandroid back up.Its gone.I believe sd card is corrupted.any help would be grateful or am i screwed

I had the same exact experience as you. I tried to root mine the goldcard way the day the method was posted online. My friend and co-worker was also rooting his myTouch at the same time. We both followed the same instructions but he succeded and i failed.
Once I had my hands on my new myTouch i refused to root it because I was too scared and my friend kept bugging me to root it since I got him to root his G1 after I did mine.
Yesterday my friend told me about the 1 click method and I'm also running cyan 4.0.1 rom
So I ended up paying for the full price of the myTouch but I have spare everything. I guess I got lucky too

Since you can get to fast boot and recovery you are not screwed. Look around the forums for help cause there are step by step instructions on how to recover from your situation.

if you can get to a fastboot screen, you can still save your phone. load up Amon_RA's recovery through fastboot and boot up to it.

Hey everyone, my hd2 died (original 1.48 rom), I already tried soft reset, hard reset, put out my battery, charge it and everyhting that came to my mind but when i turn it on it wont go further than the first htc image.
Is there anything i cant do or should i just take it back to the shop?
Thanks
I would take it back, even if you do fix it. You don't want a phone that may still have a underlying problem.
Htc HD2 BRICK Need HELP!!!!!!!
I flashed Duttys_Leo_Sense_2.5_5.2.23554.5.5.0_1.72_Multi-Lang_6.5.5_Radio_2.07.51.22.2_V1.2_WWE into tmobile htc hd2 cause i was [email protected]$kin goin Rom happy and didnt double check its compatibility and my screen went blank black, cant power on, cant go into bootloader, and cant hard reset but when i plug it in to my computer it recognizes it as a device without a driver i saw it in the device manager on windows 7 ulitmate. I KILL my htc hd2 (BRICKED)
I used HSPL2_1024_RUN.exe i flashed like 5 roms within 24hrs i was trying them out and this one made killed my hd2.
for those stuck on the htc boot image
take off the back cover of the phone and press the little red button, this will restart the phone
AS SOON AS you press it, press and hold the volume down button this will bring you to the bootloader
connect the phone via usb to your computer and flash a different radio rom (look first which are compatible with your rom)
if this doesnt work, using the same method flash back to your original rom.

for tmous with 1gb rom NEVER flash a radio with .51. in the code.
still haven't seen anyone recover from this. if anyone has please let me know.
Damn it captain!!!!!!
I just got it on the 24th shhhhhhhh....... ummm i just will take it to TMOBILE i hope i can get an other one, they may not have one in stock or they WONT give me another. i will see as soon as the store opens.
Sorry to hear about people's problems. Just remember if you have TMobile
USA there is NOT a way to flash another rom onto the phone..Just give it time the wonderful folks here are working on it. If your still in your 14 day grace period just return the phone to the store and play dumb. You might
have to wait for another phone since apparently they did not anticipate
how many people wanted this phone and sold out quickly. I know I was there
at 6:30 and the second in line and they only had 5!
Anyway, the most important thing you can do here is DO a search!

sorry? sure about that? seems to me lots of people have successfully flashed their tmous hd2.
It only goes wrong if you
1 - flash a rom based on anything less than 2.10 rom
or
2 - flash a radio with ..51.. in the version number.

I do not see a little red button under the back cover. I am in the US, just bought phone, slightly used of course, no warranty. It suddenly went dead this afternoon while charging, will sometimes try to power up but will just keep flashing that one screen "stick together" over and over.....
Tried another battery, same thing.

Mine is doing the same thing . . . in the US, the reset button is right next to the SD card slot, and it's yellow. Mine wouldn't come on Friday, and I started a web chat with Tmobile to see if they would exchange it, and then it just came back on. They said as long as the white sticker at the top of the battery compartment is still white (proving you didn't get it wet), then they will exchange it. It worked fine for me the rest of the weekend (AFTER I did a hard reset, and got it running great!!). This morning, I locked it while running MobiTV, then I couldn't unlock it, so I pulled the battery. That was 2 hours ago, and it still won't come on . . .
If it doesn't come on before I leave work, I'm taking it to Tmobile tonight!!
UPDATED 20 minutes later: Just came on . . . no rhyme or reason why?? Just started after MULTIPLE times of taking out and putting back battery, SIM, and SD card. Got the same error that I've been getting the last couple months on reboots (services.exe)?? When I did a CleanRAM, it free'd up 3.36MB . . . so SOMETHING was hung up, but nothing was running in the task manager??
Generally, few task managers show what's really going on with the phone's memory. Use an advanced task manager which will allow you to control the actual processes running on your device, Google for the names of those which seem to cause mischief and terminate them (if possible) or try to find a solution.

Hey I am also Tmobile User and I have flashed a few ROMS luckily I have not Bricked my phone (knock on wood.) I was just wondering how your return went? I have insurance on mine and figured I would just take it back if that happened. I just didn't know if that would work? Did you ever get a new one
Another update . . . used my phone all afternoon, and tried to charge it, and it wouldn't charge??? Luckily, my husband has the same phone, so I checked his with the same charger. Compared the two phones, and the prongs that hit the battery were bent back. I folded them back down, and now it can charge again. Makes me wonder if that is the problem with the phone not coming back on? Maybe putting the battery back in so that it wasn't hitting the prongs has been keeping it from turning back on . . .
Hi,
I was going to install CM6, but didn't get to far.
I was running a rooted stock ROM with sense.
To make it simple I installed ROM manager from market, installed the required recovery, and just for safety I wanted to run a backup from the ROM manager (BIG mistake). After a few seconds it rebooted, showed the "HTC magic" spash, and then rebooted again. Only way to stop it is to pull out the battery. I can't get into fastboot, it doesn't respond to any keys during boot, and doesn't stay up long enough to get the PC to recognize it on the USB port
Any clues?
Best regards,
Allan
Hi Allan,
I have the same situation as yours yesterday. also installed a ROM manager with the latest FroyoRider. After one day usage, it rebooted suddenly and can't get back the fastboot nor recovery menu. It's in HTC care center now....
Hi kenmm,
Too bad, I thought about doing the same, but from what I have heard they just change the mainboard, which cost about the same as a used magic here (
The only mode I can get my device in is JTAG mode (holding scroll wheel, giving a blue LED)
I have been reading JTAG recovery and i think we have both a suitable JTAG interface and a RS232 converter at work so when I have gathered enough energy I think I will try that.
I would be interested in what HTC care center says to you though!
Hi Allan,
The technician tried to hard reset my magic, of course she failed to do it.
They checked my magic is still under warranty, hence they kept my phone. I don't know what will they do on my phone; replace mb or replace new...
Are you sure your magic's warranty period is ended? I'm asking because my magic was bought at the first day it release in hk.
Hi Kenmm,
yes my magic is still under warranty, but I guess that doesn't cover flashing unofficial software.
Big question is if they can detect the unofficial software now when I guess the SPL is nuked?
I could be tempted to try
Yes, it's what I'm worrying, too.
If any charge is needed, they'll inform me first right?
I'll give up the magic if htc quote me the charge as big as you told me.
Very thanks to your hints about "JTAG". After some googling on this word, I found some successful un-bricks.
So, I'll not care htc will fix it anymore, my magic will finally be fixed.
I will send in my phone today just to try it. They should not do any rep. that is not covered by warrenty before first asking.
Yep JTAG unbricking seems promising, but it is still a bit complicated and new. Perhaps in a few months it is more thoroughly understood (and simpler).
hmm..I am in simmilar situation like you since 29th June, I bricked my HTC magic in rooting process(Indeed ..I was successful twice..)... I send my HTC magic for repair in washington DC.I explained the Jtag method to the technician ,mailed him the links how to repair...but he was not confident...(They are asking me to pay for the Jtag cost, cable cost etc. and with no guarranty..)
Today I ask them to ship it back to me .... I am planning to send it to HTC service center...Which seems to the best option at this point of time...
All the best Guys...
I think Somebody should come-up with easier process to unbrick the phone....
My magic was returned from htc today.
They just replaced the mb of my magic. It means they not yet have the technique to unbrick the phone through Jtag, or they feel not worth to spent huge time on thousand phones.
Hence, for a bricked phone within warranty, the best solution is send it to htc. They won't charge you because they don't know the phone was rooted or not.
Hey Congratulations!!!
Unfortunately my Magic is Out ouf warranty by now...
Do you have any Idea,How much they charge and how long it takes , if it is out of warranty?
Thanks!
Don't show them your invoice, the estimated warranty period sometimes longer than actual. My phone was actually bought at Jun.
Kenmm: Congratulations, I hope I will be as lucky!
Hemant_B: Are you sure that your magic is out of warranty? I thought mine was too, but I found the warranty note and there it is stated in numerous languages that the period is 24 months. (HTC branded 32A phone)
I am not sure...I got it last year (June 2009) when I was in Germany..it's Vodafone-HTC Magic 32B ..May be ..I should give a try...
OR
Is somebody out of expert guyz here, who can repair my phone and I will pay the cost for repairing/helping.(As I don't want to invest in JTAG or ORT device)?

deal with bell or future tel directly?
is bell still offering the $100
I remember a year back I try to get a 2 year old phone fix by bell, bell would charge me "fees"
call future tel directly, they had a UPS box sent to my door step ship to them for a quote, if I decide to not have it fix, they would send me the phone back no charges

After lots of Odin flash the phone would logo try to restart and you can see it trying to load the battery charging icon with USB connected or Logo boot loop, I didn't understand that you HAD to pull out the battery when odin said reset or else you couldnt boot the recovery mode, download mode always work
lets seem if i can install dark's rom lol
so try to flash with JL2...

It's dead. Flash a stock JL2 and call it in to Bell.
No one has been able to recover from that error message. The best you'll get is booting into Android with no internal/external memory available.

Agreed. If you are a Bell customer, call up tech support and tell them your problem (Don't mention flashing, kernels... ect.) and say your phone died while upgrading to Android 2.2 - from there you should expect a $100 credit and the rep to start the replacement/repair process. Good Luck!
you can also call Samsung directly to get your UPS shipping label

The latest I have read is that most phones are not getting replaced but just having the motherboard replaced.. Mind you I hope YOU are right since mine is in for repair right now lol.
most people that received their phone back either from Bell or Samsung, got a new IMEI # and new phone
or in the worse case scenario, you get your old phone back same IMEI with a new motherboard
called bell tech support
rep got me setup for a replacement
asked them should I bring my phone to the store and he said "they have been order to do phone replacement and not to redirect to any store and 100 credit to my account for all the trouble"
also ask if they're doing repairs and he said from what he was told they're suppose to do replacement only
update on my status
I don't know if either I'm sure lucky or Bell is awesome
Call Bell Wednesday received replacement phone today (Friday)
Its a 10.12 brand new phone, comes with all its original accessories (I read somewhere that you only get the phone in bubble wrap)
You have to return the defective phone by 5 Business days, with original battery and charger, also it states if failure is due to client damages there could be $499 repair charge and if not return by 5 business days will be charged full value of the devices.
This process was painless!

And other user for posting their status and testing results XDA FTW!!!
now I will let my phone warm up a bit and let the flashing beginning!!!!!
The Problem: My HTC HD2 touchscreen has progressively gotten worst over 2 months. At first, the keyboard was typing up wrong alphabets, then major function keys begun to malfunction, and later the whole screen. From XDA reviews, I found that changing Radio, WM, or Android ROM do not help.
Solution:
This instruction may apply to Tmobile USA users. In my search for a Do-It-Yourself fix, I searched internet for several days to no avail. Amazon.com sells Touchscreen and Digitizer but their results were inconsistent; the replacement also required time, skills & instruments that I do not have.
Tmobile: Tmobile (800 number) asked me to restore OS, but it did not work. They asked me to take it in the Tmobile store. The store associate looked at the phone, but they did not want to do anything with the phone as I did not buy my phone from Tmobile - they directed me to HTC or a local repair shop. Local repair shop was going to charge $100 for a repair and turn around time of 15 days.
HTC : I called HTC (888 356 2375). As the phone was still under warranty, they offered to take a look at it & repair it. HTC also mentioned that if the warranty is void for any reason, they would charge $39.00 for a triage fee and call me to confirm the repairing cost (in addition to triage fee). HTC mentioned that any illegal softwares found on the device would void the warranty.
Restore to OEM:
I had to restore my softwares to OEM as I installed a newer radio, HSPL, MAGLDR, and a custom windows ROM. To do so, following ROM was flashed :
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50 .07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship
Flashing above ROM restored ORIGINAL OEM radio, SPL, and Windows ROM. It also removed MAGLDR.
After restoring softwares to OEM, I sent the phone in. The repair was done by HTC without any charge. After sending the phone in, I had my phone back in 1 week - fairly quick service compared to all the other options I had at hand.
In the process, HTC kept me informed via email regularly. I talked to several HTC reps and they were very accommodating and courteous. I mentioned to HTC that my battery drains very easily. Promptly (in 2 days), HTC sent me a replacement battery for free. They mentioned that as long as the phone is under warranty, they will replace accessories ONCE for free. I will buy HTC again despite the touchscreen problem.
Immediately after receiving the phone, I installed newest Radio, HSPL, MAGDLR & my first Android NAND [HD2_Core_Droid_Desire_HD_V1.4_NAND_ONLY_LEO1024_TOUS]. The android ROM is rocking even harder straight out of box.
Enjoy.
Had the same, perfect service from HTC.
Got it back in a box that said "im back" .. Took 4 weeks though.
This made my decision to stay with HTC in the future.
Same problem, possible not yet solved
My UK T-Mobile HD2 started this in December 2010, I found that 3 or 4 hard resets got it going, but the next day it did it again so sent to T-Mobile repair center, they stripped it put it back together. No Fault Found. Updated the firmware (well re-installed it as there was no newer version avaialble at the time and sent it back to me.
It worked a treat for 5 weeks then the problem was back. Sent away again, Firmware update. No Fault Found (T-Mobile had now released the 3.14 ROM) so I did get an update this time, again came back working. Even better this time as the new radio version allowed me to run an SD Android Build.
You know where this is going, lasted 3 or 4 weeks, same again, Back to T-Mobile Store, this time I did not try a hard reset prior to taking it in, so they could see the fault, I did one reset in store and the fault persisted as it always did after the first two or three, and then off to the repair centre again.
Its due back in the next day or two, No Fault Found!!! Firmware updated
I guess it will be going back again a 3 to 5 weeks.
Perhaps I should drop an e-mail to HTC to see if they can help.
Do you know what they did to yours, did they replace anything?
Cheers Bashy...
My display was soo broken that an firmware upgrade didnt help, not even for a second.
On the repair note (0eu) it said that my screen was replaced.
I had the same problems as in the OP.
Running beter then ever now.

No doubt, Tmobile attempts to be helpful. But, I consider HTC, as a manufacturer, to be well-prepared to deal with their own product's issues. If you have these problems repeatedly, I recommend you contact HTC directly. They may send you a new replacement instrument altogether. I had several positive surprises from HTC.
HTC No Longer Repairs HD2
I know this is an old thread, but I have an HD2 with a digitizer that quit working that I wanted fixed. I just called HTC and was told that they have not been able to find a proper way to fix the phone and that they would not be able to repair it even if I paid them. This came from the customer service manager. Both the service rep and I were left without words. He couldn't believe that this was the response as he has never heard of such a thing. HTC has taken the HD2 out of their repair database. Seems pretty sketchy to me. Obviously they know about the problem and it sounds like they should issue a recall on the product if it consistently breaks on people with normal use and they have no way of repairing it.
HD2 screen not working
They fixed mine on Feb 22, 2011 for free under a warranty. I suggest you do not give them the diagnosis of digitizer is not working. Instead, just tell them the problems you have and let them tell you what is wrong with the phone.
If is going to cost an arm and a leg to fix the phone or a 1 month of outage from cellphone, I recommend you get a new phone from Craigslist or eBay. HD2 are dirt cheap now. Good luck.
hd2 is dead

Yep - i'm not surprised. I purposely bought the HD2 to get dual boot setup. Lasted two months and then screen stopped responding when screen locked. Eventually could not unlock at all. I stripped the phone, put in new screen and digitiser and new keypad buttons and then flashed back to original rom too.
GUESS WHAT??? STILL BUSTED.
So you can try many fixes found online, but I reckon once it busted don't waste your money just bin it.
SAD

From what i've seen too, it is very difficult to actually repair the digitizer without causing new secondary problems. I paid my repair shop over 155 usd to repair an hd2 with usb and touchscreen problems and they just replaced the virtually the entire hd2 (mainboard+LCD+digitizer). And it still had problems in the end!

Enjoy.

hey dood, i had nand on my US tmoble HD2 touch screen went out, i have a few posts you should follow if you are going for warranty.
i had to download the software from the tmoble website..... You will need an IMEL number for this ...... or go and try to find your stock rom on the interwebs...... have a secondary SD card (not the one in your phone) follow the SPECIFIC steps and drop your new file on the new sd card and replace it with the one in your phone then follw normal booting steps in the tri color screen.,..... i do have a post that is a quck rundown with a little bit more info........ but the main thing is.... if you send it for warranty you have to put YOUR (country/carrier specific) stock rom on or they will fully charge you....... hope this helps....... other than that its a phone issue i belive its the screen digitizers.... so if not under warranty thats what it will cost to fix
Thank you
Thank you. that helped me as well.

Ok well skip this first part if you don't want a story,
I got my nexus around febuary as a gift for my birthday as a little toy and music, I went right ahead and unlocked the bootloader and rooted it for future use as well as going ahead and putting TWRP on it with multirom for ubuntu tinkering but never bothered flashing a new android and only flashed a new kernal to be able to tweek the clock speeds and never bothered with that ether becuase the nexus was fast enfough for everything i could throw at it.
Now a few days ago I decided to do a factory reset from TWRP to put a stock rom on it and clean everything off it, Then it just refused to boot BUT i still had bootloader access so all was well and i used the lazy option and oppted to use the nexus toolkit and told it to just flash the stock rom onto it. It finished then i went to restart it and it died.
Now since that death it will not boot, it will not get to the bootloader or recovery menu, it wont respond to any buttons at all, It won't dispaly the chargeing icon when pluged it nor will the screen turn on at all and to top it all off even when i plug it into my laptop it will not even notace it at all.
I have seen simlar problems but none exactly the same, I tryed to return it today but to put it lightly pc world are a bunch of asshats who woudent exchange or repair it becuase the receipt was slightly damaged so returning it isent an option.
Feel free to call me an idiot and everything but for any help at all I thank you in advance.
You should still be covered under the 12 month warranty from Asus with the warranty card you got along with your device.

Will they not not just tell me to go to the resaler?
My headset from asus broke and they told me I had to set up the rma with the online resaler i bought it from here.
There's no harm in atleast going to the Asus website and make an account then register your tablet.
