i use it for business and we have a own application that connects the companyserver every 5 minutes to check if there is a new order to work at a customer (filed service).
The HDSPA needs much power so it is annoying that it is a MUST to disconnect manually Before we used a hw6915 - got some other bugs but disconnected itself also after a exchange-sync.
Is it a know bug from the ipaq or WM ? Any idea of a fix?
THX alot.
google 4 wm5 gb-soft-tweak then on device sttings/sys you will find an icon that will let you disconnect gprs at a set time
also you will get more disconnect option
this app is a set of tweak that can be done manualy but i recomend using the app
Thanks this tool is a good solution. So its a ug of the 614c or does it belong to WM ?
Thanks

I haven't seen any wm device with such "interface " (I have seen some devices )
anyway it isn’t the ipaq 614
this tweaks go all the way back to wm2002/3 and are well known
don’t forget that if the timeframe of connecting/disconnecting is to small you will lose more battery establishing connection when you sync
you may also have bugs that may prevent reconnection but will not effect existing connection (you can google for sync problems …)
from what I have tested on my devices the effect of such disconnect on battery life can be neglected
the timeframe between sync is the more effective VAR that can be changed
anyway you got what you want and that is the important part
Btw- from what I have noticed some tweaks are done just because "it can be done"
As 4 your problem if the app that you use have nothing 2 do with activesync (stend alone) then go to start/programs/activesync
Then enter schedule and set it to manual
This will save battery
I had an app called GPRS OFF which worked great , can't seem to find it anymore ..

Hi All
I have a T-Mobile VARIO and I have set it up to search for email using GPRS every 30mins but after it has searched it does not disconnect the GPRS - this is strange as I have a MDA PRO and that had the same OS and that disconnected GPRS automatically.
ANY HELP APPRECIATED ....
Steve
well, i cant help you in this. But my Vario works in exactly the same way, so it is system (or T-mobile) feature, not bug on your device
Same on my XDA mini S too...
Get te GB-soft tweak. It gives you a disconnect button in the GPRS bubble
http://www.gb-soft.cz/XDAII/product_gprs_tweak_en.htm
I believe that's a standard registry hack.
V
i found this, not tried yet but it may work
# Want your GPRS/Edge to auto disconnect (saves battery)?
* HKLM\Drivers\builtin\RIL\GPRSAutoDetach (set to 1 to auto disconnect)
hmm, i found another possible solution for this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Comm/ConnMgr/Planner/Settings/
Value Name: SuspendResume
should be deleted, as for the upper tip also this is not tested by me, i found it in a czech pda forum.
GB-soft does more than just the reg tweak for the GPRS bubble. It also will disconnect for you after a certain amoutn of time (for example 10 minutes).
I wouldn't care if I stayed connected except after an hour or so, the I look connected, but the connection doesn't work. GB-soft has resolved this problem And it's free.
it looks really great. I'll have a play at home. I was just indicating that the disconnect button is a standard reg tweak I think.
V
check out the program before responding
You can also just hold down your red phone button for 5 seconds.
It works for me
Johan
GB SOFT
GB SOFT worked a treat !
Thanks you very very much
Problem solved
Steve
Or so I thought !
Or so I thought - its still not disconnecting
if it says disconnect if not in use for :
surely if the GPRS is connected data is coming through...

Glad it worked.
Yes, holding the red button usually works...but when mine was in that "state of limbo", it did not. I would have to put it into flight node and back. Or sometimes a soft reset. Very annoying.
And be nice to vijay555, he writes cool free stuff!
cool app - thanks
Hi, i have a very strange and unpleasant problem with my Hermes.. At home I am using my wifi connection to receive mails etc. My Hermes connects to the wifi network normally, but when I want to use internet connection (IE, Outlook..) it will start GPRS. I have to turn wifi of and back on to be able to use it. It is pretty annoying as you can imagine. Now I am using latest Tytn WWE rom, but i have had same problems with T-mobile rom.
My old Wizard is connecting normally and has never done something stupid like this Do anyone have some clue what may cause this strange behaviour?
Have you confirmed that the home WiFi connection is configured as 'Connects to: The Internet'? In comm manager turn off the WiFI then go into settings/connections/Network Cards and you will be presented with all the networks used or previously found by your TyTn wireless card.
Select you named home wireless connection and you will be presented with the screen "Configure Wireless Network". Make sure that the entry against "Connects to:" i sset to The Internet - then press OK (top right), then dismiss the settings windows.
Try the connection again - it worked for me a while back. If already set at "connects to the Internet" then try deleting the settings and creating the entry again: press and hold on the connection (your home WiFi) then select "Remove Settings". Then turn on networked and set it up again remembering to select "connects to the Internet" when asked during the configuration of the WiFi connection. Of course you will again be prompted for a network key if you have a secure wireless router.
- if you all this then sorry but you didn't say. Hope it helps
I have already set it to connect to the internet few days ago. But i will try to remove those settings and do it again.. Hope it will solve the problem.
Thanks for your help. I'll report later..

Mine does the same thing and I am set the same way, even though it connects to GPRS etc it still uses the WiFi (ran speed test on IE to confirm)
Hi
I hear good things about Danielherrero's bandswitch app. This is a long thread and I think there are revisions along the way so best read through a sample of the pages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844&highlight=danielherrero
Whether it will solve your particular issue I don't know - but worth a look?

Hmm.. I am already using that band switcher. Really a great program but unfortunatelly it cannot solve this issue.
But.. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel I've deleted my network settings and than set it again. And now it seems to be working! Hmm.. cannot be quite sure if it isn't just lucky day, but I've tested it more than 10 times and it seems to be OK.
Anyway... thanks for your help
Hopefully it will continue to work.
PS Is "cancer man" still alive or have the ciggies killed him off?
Mike
Glad to hear it worked OK. I too found it was teh only way to get mine initially working - since deleting and recreating the link it has worked OK (3 mths plus)
Aaah.. I heard that cancer man is still alive. But.. trust no one Hope he will not follow the Marlboro Man..
And by the way.. After few hours it still seems to be working. Thanks guys!!
Out of a month of use it has happened to me only once. I just turned off wifi then turned it back on. I believe the tytn is not recognising that it has a valid Internet connection.
Hallo everybody!
First of all let me thamk al the people that provided us hacks 'n triks to better ****f experience: you are all great!
Now comes the difficult part of my (first) post.
I succesfully "liberated" WM on SnapVue side and even after SP1 on Vista everything seems to work fine, except for some things I'm about to ask you.
1. Is there a reason why audio is always muted on Vista side after each reboot/hybernate? It's not a big problem to make some click here and there, but I would like to know if any other user has the same issue.
2. I'm realizing that "USBTools" works only with power plug inserted. Anyone has tried to solve this problem? (Pleas note: I've read that it can be solved by changing the energy settings on Vista, putting them on "Ok, guy: eat my battery", but it really drains battery power).
3. Problems with modem under Vista. I used to surf the web using WM/SnapVue as a USB modem, but this does'nt seem to work anymore (even if WM is connected to 3G and perfectly "surfing on PIE). So my question is: how do I make Vista use my SIM as a modem?
4. From FAQ there still doesn't seem to be a solution to storage card. Any new on this? By the way: is it normal that having no file in "My Document" folder in WM I only have 4 Mb of free space for documents (it means that I have more or less 32 Mb's of Documents used... without a document in it). I tryed to discover which folder was so memory-eater with MemMaid, and I only discovered that "Windows" is 100 and more Mb's heavy...
Thank you for any hint you can give me on this
I'm really grateful to this forum for fixing all my post-SP1 issues. I recognise your point 3. Some top chaps on this forum regognised that the shift has to left in high performance power setting for the modem to stay 100% reliable. you can also create additional power settings, based on the high performance setting, and then you can edit all of the options to be the same as balanced and power saver, giving you modem reliability and battery life.
2. The above should fix this too, although I also disable the modem from control to ensure a 100% reliable connection.
Thanks to the chaps who came up with these solutions.
Some updates (or better: new questions).
Internet connection in Vista now goes through WM side, and I'm still waiting for a solution to that. But the point is: whyt can't I sync my files while surfing? I mean: I'm correctly connected to WM as I'm surfing (if I "disconnect" using USBTools internet connection disappears), but in Sync Center my "device" is disconnected and so I can't syn infos. Should I usually turn off modem in order to get sync?
Thank everybody!!!
Would you kindly share your experiences when using Ipaq 610, 612 and 614 with wifi on? Preferably when streaming with high bitrate (over 64 kbps) continually.
When i use it this way for example when listening to online radio, the PPC stops charging and the device gets hot!
I am currently using the battery replacement provided by HP but it's not showing any improvements. Infact its worse because it's stops charging even sooner than usual.
Am i the only one with this problem? The device recharges again only after i restart it.
Please share.
i do
when u use wifi disconnect gprs/3G connection
u use wifi 4 long time so i recomend using nodata cab 2 keep it disconnected
hello erezyad,
Where can i find this "no data cab"?
Let me just confirm, so your ipaq also stops charging?
Others please comment so we can be sure.
BTW there are lots of freeware internet radios you can install on you ppc to entertain you like Mundu Radio, Pocket Scrobbler, lastfm Pocketpc Player, just to name a few.
google 4 "modaco nodata.cab "
cannt upload [due 2 the dev ...]
if u will not find it i will post the link
good luck
I have looked into the file you mentioned "modaco nodata.cab". I don't think you understand my problem.
The problem is my pocket pc ceases to charge itself using the charger when i'm intentionally connect to WIFI longer than 30 minutes using high bitrate connection. Why high bit rate? Because it generates lots of heat. I would like to know whether others are experiencing the same problem
Thx

tnx
now u know what nodata is good 4
(it will not let gprs contact whan u use WIFI)
enjoy
Please this is urgent,
after reverting the settings back i.e. re enabling modaco's NoData and phone Network setting to Automatic, I cannot connect to gprs/3g connection anymore. It gave an error message something like "No DNS server is specfied".
Why is this?
if u have issus with your data connection u can always go
start/settings/connection/hp ipaq data connect and refrsh your settings
i can only say that i have worked with nodata 4 long time on lots of devces with no issuse
Yes I had done that already...
Ok no problem so it must be something else.
BTW Pockettoolman ( http://pockettoolman.blogspot.com/ ) can also enable/disable data plus many more functions but this ability is relatively hidden within the app.
... but never mind thank you
Hi - I cant seem to get this to work correctly.
I have 2 email accounts set up to connect to and get new emails from every hour.
I have advanced config set up to disconnect my data connection after 1 min. But still it is very random weather it works or not. Sometimes yes most times no (still connected 2 hours later).
I have tried running HD tweak with the same settings but no luck. I have tried HDtweak on its own and both together.
I have also tried changing the time to 2mins or 5 mins.
Does anyone else have this problem? It just does not seem very reliable at all.
Any help would be amazing.
Thanks
anyone any ideas?
Still looking for some help on this one if anyone would be kind enough??
Well, I'm not aware of additional apps that resolves this automatically but the fastest way manually to disconnect is to use the Long End Press Button to disconnect.
Just a thought for the meantime....
Thanks but that is not really practical every 30 mins or so when your phone receives new emails. I cannot believe this amazing phone has such a strange short fall. For people with data shortages on their tarrifs this must be a nightmare?
I suggest to disable data connections in sleep mode. This can be fond under phone->settings->data
If data tab is not available, you can enable it using a cab called "Dutty enable data tab" or something similar (search the forums).
This cab works only for certain ROMs. I am using XNOR and it works perfectly.
Please note that your activesync will continue synchronising as programmed. and automatically disconnecting after.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried searching for this .cab but cannot find it, does anyone have a link to it? I am also using XNOR so it should be a great fix. Thanks

Not to worry, I have found it. Thanks for all the help/suggestions.
xx
I guess you already noticed the battery life improvement.... don't you?
I have this same problem with no fix yet. With the cab that disallows data in sleep mode, wouldn't your auto email check not work or am I not understanding what that cab does?
Thanks,
Ho'okani
Wow, with that cab the battery life really is longer!!! thnx!
