Attempt to fix my phone - G1 General

First, my problem started with either updating to the new JFv1.43 recovery, or flashing the new SPL from Haykuro.
Symptoms:
1. Everytime I flash a new ROM, wipe or no wipe, I come back stuck at the T-Mobile G1 boot screen. The only way I've found to get through is to take out battery and boot into ADB (the Camera + Power screen) and "fastboot flash boot boot.img". This almost always work.
2. Nandroid stopped working. Nandroid always errors during the process of backing up, and I'd only have splash1.img and splash2.img in the nandroid folder of my SD card. Kind of want to try reflashing the JFv1.43, or even go back to 1.42 (can't find) for troubleshooting. Also not sure if this would affect the new SPL and cause a brick.
3. "Insufficient storage available" with Dude's and Cyanogen's builds. I'm not sure if this one is related to recovery or SPL. This might be caused by past attempts at doing apps2sd (I've done both symlink and unionfs).
Anyways, losing Nandroid has lost me a lot of time with trying out new ROM's, I'd really like to get it fixed. The boot stuck is a nuisance, but much less troublesome than losing Nandroid.

Its the SPL.

So then I'm stuck in this situation? Since the SPL can't be downgraded.

I'm not positive (***so dont do this without researching***) but i think it would be possible to flash to a different one ( i mean, you flashed another SPL over the original one, right? ).
There is a "mega-thread" that has information on all the SPL's and their features/updates. If the info is anywhere, it's prob in there. Search in the Dev forum.

I could be wrong, but the key is not flashing an older RADIO with the newer spl.
You should still be able to go back to hardspl with no issues.

I have flashed from the New H SPL to the HardSPL i originally had on the phone when I found out people were having trouble with the SPL. I install the NEW SPL again to run Hero, but you CAN flash it back to the older SPL I would recomend HARDSPL though.
*not responsible if this doesn't work but I was able to do this without any trouble. Was just a bit nerve racking.

i am 99% sure the above post is correct, don't flash a different radio, but you can flash another SPL right over the Haykuro SPL. i would double check that as there is a 1% chance it will totally screw your phone and i don't wanna be the guy that told you to do something that bricked your phone, but it should work. just to be safe you should make sure splash1 is the t-mo g1 screen so if it stops you can call t-mo

i flashed from the latest haykuro spl 1.33.2005 , to the original t-mobile spl HBOOT-0.95.0000. I fastbooted and it was showing the original spl installed.

radio upgrade

when using the RUU update to upgrade my radio it says i have image version 2.11.255.1
is this newer than SPL 2.10.olipro?
do i NEED to flash to HardSPLv7 just to upgrade the radio to Radio version 1.41.00.10?
its a softbank X01T WM5
image version and SPL version are unrelated. With Olipro 2.1, you have all you need. Feel free to flash with reckless abandon.
SPL 2.10.olipro = HardSPL v7

well that is the only version # the program gives
i cant seem to get to bootlooader mode to find out more
and if i do decide to flash to that spl, all my data on the device is still there right? it only wipes when u upgrade the rom?
i really really only want to upgrade the radio. is it perfectly safe to do the upgrade without hardSPLv7?
Someone Please Tell Me
i wouldn't upgrade ANYTHING without hard-spl
read EVERYTHING at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/ before flashing
if you don't, please don't come crying here if you brick your device.
btw, not flashing the radio properly WILL brick your device
I seem to be following SkyyBoy in posting recently and giving some of the same advice.
You can flash a radio without hardspl and it is safe as long as NOTHING GOES WRONG. If something goes wrong during the flashing process (such as power failure, PC BSOD etc) then you have a $500 paperweight.
If you put hardspl V7 (or 2.10 - same thing) on your phone before flashing radio then if a problem happens you can recover the brick.
No one here will recommend flashing the radio without hardspl.
Why are ytou reluctant to put this on your phone? If it's for warranty reasons later, this can be removed (also in Mrvanx's guides I think).

Flashing an SPL or a Radio does NOT lose your data.

Haykuro SPL 1.33.2005

I have currently the Engineering SPL and I am thinking of trying the Haykuro builds that for what I have been reading require the SPL 1.33.2005, for what I understand it frees up memory for Haykuro builds, my question is would I lose the functionality of the Engineering SPL? Is the SPL 1.33.2005 like the standard rainbow SPL? Would I be able to return to the JF builds if I decide too?
Could someone go about the pros and cons of going to the SPL 1.33.2005? Thank you all in advance.
pros more space and compatible with all builds
cons you may brick your phoen to a point that we cannot fix
thank you have a nice day
I agree to me its just a normal spl and I already tried flashing to id 1.51 and it worked fine. U have to be carefully web flashing that spl because if urnot carefully it will brick Ur phone. Just do more research
Thank you for the answers guys, one more question would I be able to use fastboot with SPL 1.33.2005?

also, since it hasn't been mentioned in this thread...make sure you have a PVT board before applying this SPL (check by booting to your current bootloader / SPL / skateboarding android screen and read the text @ the top)

yes you can.
Guys, I already have the 261 radio which i believe is the latest one, do i still need to reflash the radio before i flash the latest spl or can i just skip the radio?
You have the correct radio, so as long as you have a PVT board, you should be okay. Just don't flash back to an older radio version with that SPL.
Does It Have Hard SPL Features?
Does anyone know whether this has the same features of the HardSPL? I don't want to lose the ability to do nandroid backups, or to have a busybox console to get into.
If this is just a modified HardSPL then I'll probably take the plunge, otherwise I think I'll wait until Haykuru's modifications get added to the HardSPL.

That's the deciding factor for me. I like being able to flash back and forth between radio roms. The original 1.22 RR seems to work better for me with most of the updated roms.
Sorry to ask but I searched for this answer to no avail - how can I tell if I have a PVT board? I had my G1 before release (employee), I am almost positive it is, but is there a terminal command to show what version I have?

i had HardSPL then finally decided to flash H's SPL. be careful because it is possible to brick your phone!
the most noticeable difference i saw was the more internal memory. from a wipe, from 52mb norm to 62+mb i think.

And it went to the flash loading bar and just resets and nothing happens. I tried the alt-w first and flashing just doesnt work.
I know now that was a bad idea but it didnt do anything anyway.
Where did the extra System space come from?
I have a question about Haykuro's SPL. I understand he bumped up the System size. But where did he allocate space from? Will that space be needed in the future? Sorry, if this is a noob question.
Thanks

if it's haykuro's spl...
Hopefully, you READ & FOLLOWED the directions and flashed the RADIO first, then flashed the SPL. If you did not, then your phone is bricked.
if u cn get into recovery reflash ur rom. and like everyone else says hope u flashed the radio 1st
I did the radio first
I was able to boot into recovery, i tried a wipe and a few things but couldnt get it.
Eventually I got it by reflashing cyanogenmod.

This may sound like a silly question but please forgive me as I have not yet flashed the haykuro spl.
Once you've flashed the new spl, instead of flashing the update.zip of the cyanogen rom, can't you use nandroid restore? Or will that restore the previous spl as well (in my case HARD SPL)?
I ask because I would like to try the spl, but I'm so comfortable with my rom and settings that I would hate to wipe just to try Hero which is still in development. Call me crazy, but I like stable and finished builds. But I am curious and with a lot of time on my hands but not so much that I'm willing to lose everything just to try something that I'm not going to keep.

Regaining Root with New SPL

I have a quick, simple question that I have tried searching for:
I lost root trying to upgrade to the newest Cyanogen (I think I rebooted when I wasn't supposed to). I am unable to get into fastboot as my computer will not recognize the drivers. I have also lost my recovery image. I have Haykuro's SPL (.005) and wanted to reroot using the DREAIMG RC29 process. My question is: is this possible with the new SPL? Do I have to go back to the HardSPL or can I just downgrade to RC29? I know that I can not change the radio version at this point... I just need to regain root without ADB/Fastboot!
If someone can point me in the right direction or help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

Don't flash the RC29.. it contains an old radio and you'll brick. I think the best thing you can do is revert to the original hardspl, then flash RC29 and root again from scratch.

You can downgrade the spl but not the radio. The problem exists in the communication between radio image and spl.. Haykuro's SPL is only compatible with that one special radio version, anything else will brick it.. but all the other spl's will work with any radio version.
So yes, in this situation you can (and must) downgrade the spl before you try to go back to RC29.

What problem are you having getting fastboot to work, there is a guide on setting up fastboot stickied in theese forums that would be a good reference point to getting it to work. Flashing the spl can be dangerous and can cause bricking, I would recommend trying to get fastboot up and running then you'd only have to reflash your recovery to either cyan's or Amon Ra's with fastboot, then you would be able to use your update.zip files again.

What did I do to my new LEO????

Well I got my new Leo 13 days ago and I've tried to make the stock ROM work to my satisfaction but between the T-Mo junk installed and terrible battery life I decided it was time to try a cooked ROM...
So I read and read and read some more...It's not my first run at this but I wanted to understand everything so I didn't end up with a $449 paperweight.
This morning I download and installed the HSPL-1024....No problems, went just as the instructions said....
I then download a 1024 T-Mo tested/approved Energy Rom and I install it on my LEO.... No problem everything went as it should. I played with the rom and wanted to try another one with a different look so I found another 1024 LEO Rom, the RoMEoS4 or something like that.... Anyway, that install went just fine...
After installing both cooked ROMS I noticed I was having freezing/locking up issues and had to keep soft reseting so after several hours of it locking up I decided to just revert back to the stock T-Mo USA rom.
I then went on here and found the exact shipped rom I had originally (I had documented the versions I had prior to HSPL and the cooked rom's)
http://beta.vbnfiles.com/index.php?...08.50.08_2_Ship.zip&directory=xmoo/Leo/TMOUS&
Instructions on here clearly explained how to revert back (for warranty purposes) so I downloaded the exact stock rom, extracted it to my desktop and renamed the nbh file leoimg.nbh.... I then copied it to a formatted 8gb SDcard and inserted it into the phone.
Instructions said to hold the Volume down botton and the Power button until it boots into the bootloader and then begins to install off the card. I did this exactly and shortly after it began loading off the card it went back to the bootloader and said "Upgrade Rom Code Error, Please try again" it then goes to a gray screen that says "Loading" and stays there...stuck.
Here's a video of what it does when I try to load off the sdcard.....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCD_-EuI1_Q
I have no idea what happened or what to do to get it out of this...
Thanks for your time!
Jess

Put it into bootloader mode, hook it up to your computer with USB, and run to stock image like you did with the cooked roms. That should flash it back to stock. Then, if you want to take the hspl off, you can just run the hspl program again and change it back to your lod spl. No need to use SD card.
Every time a thread like this pops up, I can't help but wish that the "flash from SD card" method and every reference to it could be eradicated from the collective consciousness of this forum and all unwitting participants who fall into this trap... at least long enough to establish that:
1) it isn't a necessary or preferred method to flash.
2) it has the potential to cause stuff like this to happen.

I got those instructions from a very popular chef on here so I was under the assumption that was the only way to revert back from HSPL
I've learned a valuable lesson here.....Leave it the hell alone!!!!

If you can get to the boot loader, then you should be able to fix this pretty easily.
I'd do this:
Get to the boot loader, check the SPL version. Do you have HSPL 2.08?
IF no, install it using HSPL2_1024_RUN, (if you want a custom ROM option), or install the standard SPL if you want to have an "unhacked" HD2, and flash the stock ROM. Done.
IF HSPL 2.08 is installed and you want it like that to install custom ROMs, then I'd do the following, just for good measure:
run MTTY/task29 to clean out all the old stuff (see my sig line)
flash the TMOUS 2.08 Radio
flash a custom TMOUS compatible ROM

No, the new version of HSPL (HSPL2_1024_RUN) has an option to re-install the standard SPL. If I wanted to do that, i'd definitely use HSPL2_1024_RUN to do it.

Ok thank you....
The SPL reverted back to the original 2.08 SPL when it began the install the stock rom (before it gave me the error) So it does not have the HSPL in it anymore.
I've tried all kinds of different things to fix it but I get an error or no response with everything.
I did try to reinstall the HSPL but when I try I get the below error from the HSPL2 proggie.
Critical Error
Flow 00000003
Error Code 00000004
Discription: BAD MODEL ID
so reinstalling HSPL wont reinstall.....
I believe this is why I've not been able to fix it myself.... I'm usually pretty good with these installs. My Kaiser saw hundreds of new roms if not more and I never ran into this.
Thanks

Make sure you have the sd card out of the phone. So you get into bootloader mode, and you run the rom update from the computer? Maybe try downloading the stock rom again to make sure it's not corrupted. You should be able to flash it from your computer.
Before flashing any rom I would do task29 and completely wipe the internal memory, so you don't have any issues with left over files from the last rom. That is most likely why you started having problems in the first place. I used to think oh I can just flash a rom and it will work like new, but nope I had more problems I could deal with and almost returned the damn thing. Once you know what you are doing WM is a great OS to have and the only other phone I thought even cam eclose toa WM phone was the iPhone anyG, if i'm allowed to say that here. So, task29 first then enter bootloader and the run your customruu with any rom compatible with the TMOUS HD2 1024. Any questions just holla.

Thanks

You should be able to install the T-Mobile Stock rom without needing HSPL I think. Make sure it's the stock rom you have... not a modified or cooked version.

I wouldn't give up hope, but.... Worst case: You don't have HSPL installed, so your warranty is still good! Not the best news, I realize.

No, the new version of HSPL (HSPL2_1024_RUN) has an option to re-install the standard SPL. If I wanted to do that, i'd definitely use HSPL2_1024_RUN to do it.

Yeah that's what I used to put the HSPL in it. It's giving me the Critical error now.
I'll search a copy of MTTY and see if it does anything...I don't have a copy of mtty.

Make sure you have the sd card out of the phone. So you get into bootloader mode, and you run the rom update from the computer? Maybe try downloading the stock rom again to make sure it's not corrupted. You should be able to flash it from your computer.

Thank you, Yes I took it out when it wouldnt load the stock rom off it.
There is no SIM or SD card in it.
No, it's not installing via my computer.....It's still sitting at 0% and been there since I began typing this thread... (30 mins) I thought I may have gotten a bad download so I've re-downloaded the stock rom twice now and still the same thing.... Sits at zero percent.

Here's where I got the stock rom.... Last link in the 1st post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6042320&postcount=1
I got the second one elsewhere on XDA but I can't recall where.
If you can get your phone into bootloader then just do task29. Here is the Mega link.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J3OELQ8I
Once task29 is done, pull your battery out and replace after 10-15 secs. Then enter bootloader again and try the stock or custom rom you want. I have been at the 0% screen before even 70% and 99% and stuck. Mine is the HTC HD2 TMOUS branded and I am currently using the AxLor Leo V9 rom and she works like a dream. Let me know if you need help.

ahh ok, that IS the stock rom, but its a repack of the 2.1 rom, not an official .exe/nbh pack. (Well, my kitchen wont import it, says its not official, and it comes with customruu)
However, look for
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship
which is the packed ship .exe. (and does open as official in the kitchen)
ill submit this, and see if i can find the link.
EDIT - heres a mirror of
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50.07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship.exe

I am glad you pointed out this error on my part. I honestly did not know that HSPL2 and HSPL1024 were 2 different programs....
I was merely referring to HSPL1024 as the second version of HSPL....or HSPL2..... I didn't mean to create confusion... sorry about that...
To confirm I am using HSPL-1024

Every time a thread like this pops up, I can't help but wish that the "flash from SD card" method and every reference to it could be eradicated from the collective consciousness of this forum and all unwitting participants who fall into this trap... at least long enough to establish that:
1) it isn't a necessary or preferred method to flash.
2) it has the potential to cause stuff like this to happen.

so I'm kinda confused...you say that that you shouldn't flash from the sd card. and im sure you know more about this technically speaking than I do but what confuses me is I've been told and read MANY times by people probably more experience than both of us that flashing from your sd card IS the safest way to flash...im not saying your wrong but it concerns me because that is the method I use mainly for convience.but if this has the potential to destroy my very expensive device that I can't afford to replace I would REALLY like to know and know why. if anybody can guide me here why two different stories and maybe some reasons why one method had a higher chance for problems I would really appreciate it =)
