radio upgrade - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

when using the RUU update to upgrade my radio it says i have image version 2.11.255.1
is this newer than SPL 2.10.olipro?
do i NEED to flash to HardSPLv7 just to upgrade the radio to Radio version 1.41.00.10?
its a softbank X01T WM5

image version and SPL version are unrelated. With Olipro 2.1, you have all you need. Feel free to flash with reckless abandon.

SPL 2.10.olipro = HardSPL v7

well that is the only version # the program gives
i cant seem to get to bootlooader mode to find out more
and if i do decide to flash to that spl, all my data on the device is still there right? it only wipes when u upgrade the rom?
i really really only want to upgrade the radio. is it perfectly safe to do the upgrade without hardSPLv7?

Someone Please Tell Me

i wouldn't upgrade ANYTHING without hard-spl
read EVERYTHING at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/ before flashing
if you don't, please don't come crying here if you brick your device.
btw, not flashing the radio properly WILL brick your device

I seem to be following SkyyBoy in posting recently and giving some of the same advice.
You can flash a radio without hardspl and it is safe as long as NOTHING GOES WRONG. If something goes wrong during the flashing process (such as power failure, PC BSOD etc) then you have a $500 paperweight.
If you put hardspl V7 (or 2.10 - same thing) on your phone before flashing radio then if a problem happens you can recover the brick.
No one here will recommend flashing the radio without hardspl.
Why are ytou reluctant to put this on your phone? If it's for warranty reasons later, this can be removed (also in Mrvanx's guides I think).

You need to read up alot more before trying to flash anything.
Flashing an SPL or a Radio does NOT lose your data.

Down-Grade

My device is in good condition and running WM6 Black, however, I got a new job that provides a PDA phone, so Im wanting to sell my Cingular 8525 (walking around with two PDA's on my belt is a little much). Before I sell my 8525 I want to put it back to Factory setting so whoever buys it doesn't have problems from cingular. I've read through the forums and couldn't find anything about downgrading a device. I went to HTC and got the latest official rom from them for cingular, but before I try to flash that I just want to make sure it wont brick my phone because of the upgraded Radio and SPL that I have. I need to know if it will put the radio and SPL back to factory versions? if not any way to put everything back to factory/offical cingular release. My device info in listed in my Sig. i'm sorry if this is posted somewhere else, i promise I read through every search result and looked through the wiki. Please help? (unless someone wants to buy a moded 8525 ;-) )

I have done upgrade to WM6 and downgrade to factory ROM a couple of times, and my JASJAM hasn't got any problem.

its the SPL I'm worried about, I've read on here before that when sent back to cingular/HTC for repair or what not that the warrenty was voided and the customer was charged for a new phone because it had a forign bootloader/spl. thats what worries me a little.

You'll have to downgrade the SPL to 1.10 or less first, otherwise that factory ROM won't overwrite it. This is clearly detailed in the Hard-SPL release notes/thread (see link in my sig).

I've downloaded ruu_hermes_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship.exe from HTC website for cingular 8525. Should I flash that first, then try to find a factory SPL to flash, then flash the cingular rom again to get the SPL back to what the current released spl/rom settings are? Where do i find the factory SPL, I only see Hard-SPL-V6.zip.

To repeat, Hard-SPL > 1.10 purposefully prevents overwriting the SPL (as do the factory SPL's > 1.04). The downgrade guide doesn't address this, unfortunately.
You'll need to downgrade to Hard-SPL 1.10 (yes, there's something other than V6 still available), then reflash the factory ROM or your repackaged radio/SPL nbh.

I downloaded SPL-OliproMFG. extracted. used koch to make the nbh with the SPL.* file (not the SSPL file) and the ruuwrapper to update the phone. I chose SPL-1.11/1.13/1.30/1.40 New bootloader because thats the current SPL on my phone (SPL-1.40) with the option Hard-SPL checked. It connects to the phone, transerfer 100% and resets the phone. After it boots I press the okay and power +reset and it still showes SPL-1.40.Olipro.
Did I download the wrong file or am I using the wrong settins on the RUUwrapper? I'm doing my best to read through everything and actually try, that is what i'm told will not piss off the senior members, you are willing to help those that try to help themselves. so I appreciate everything you guys are offering me. I just wanted to let you know that.

Yes and yes. Use the Hard-SPL link in my sig to get 1.10 - Olipro SPL (a.k.a. "flavour 2"). You have to force SSPL when flashing it, otherwise it won't downgrade (for the same reason your factory ROM isn't downgrading it).
To flash the old spl, put it into an nbh image as in the guide, when you flash using RUU select force SSPL. voila
Everything is back to normal and working GREAT! Thanks for all of your help!

Perhaps you could update your downgrading guide to reflect this? I see "Why didn't my SPL downgrade?" questions all the time.
Also, IMO when reverting to "factory", one should downgrade SPL last, or at least separate from the radio. By doing so, you would retain the anti-bricking and "quick flash" (if > 1.10) benefits of Hard-SPL while flashing the radio, which as we know is the most risky.

Agreed, except that if one has Hard-SPL > 1.10 installed on their device (which so many do at this point), they can't just repackage SPL.nb from the original factory ROM per the guide and expect it to downgrade (which is what krisg0 encountered). Same holds true for factory SPL > 1.04.
Thought perhaps you could take the guide one step further to say that if you have Hard-SPL > 1.10, you must downgrade to Hard-SPL = 1.10 before a factory SPL flash will overwrite it. I believe this to be the primary reason Olipro left v1.10 available.
IMO, adding this bit of info to the guide has the potential of cutting down on a lot of "How do I downgrade my SPL?" questions.
It's your guide, of course -- just thought I'd offer my 2 cents for improving it and maybe even eliminate some repetitive questions on the forum...

You dont need to downgrade the SPL twice, simply package the old the SPL into the nbh image then flash using customRUU....select force SSPL and it WILL overwrite the SPL regardless of the version you currently have.

OK, yeah, that would be the more direct route when disassembling and repackaging the factory nbh and downgrading in stages. I just didn't see anything about forcing SSPL on the SPL part, that's all.

IPL & SPL Version Mismacth

Hi
My o2 xda mini s - used to hang @ start up soft and hard reset dint work out for me so i tried flashing my handset by this process given by MR Vippie http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
the complaint is still same and now the handset versions is something like this
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.05
GSM 01.12.10
OS 1.5.4.2
pls help
If you did the unlocking that it looks like you were trying to do, then now you have to flash back to an official ROM like T-Mobile 2.26 to get your IPL/SPL back to the same version.
i haven't personally done this version of unlocking, but the common advice is that IPL and SPL should be the same number. if they aren't you should keep reflashing the button rom until they are both 1.05...then CID and flash back to a 2.xx rom. it doesn't hurt to reflash the buttons...1.01 and 1.05 doesn't look right...
ok thankyou for ur precious suggestion i will try flashing with this versions
Another odd thing. When I flashed my wizard I first flashed it back to 1.05 to unlock it. I then flashed it forward to I think the T-Mo 2.26 which was then new. I had to do this second flash twice because the first time it only got the bootloader. From the instructions I had read, though, it appears this is normal or at least not uncommon?
invalid vender id
this update utility cannot be used for your pda phone. please check your update utility
this is the error i get when i flash it with t-mobile 2.26 any other version or some kind of hardware damage
did you go through the unlocking process enablerapi, etc? sounds like you might not have CID unlocked, so it won't let you flash a rom from a different carrier. (in this case, I'm assuming you have cingular). when you flash with buttons 1.05 and both ipl/spl are the same, then go through the unlock process again.
ok sir
will try ur process n post results
I'd also bet that the CID unlocking didn't go through but i don't think it's a big deal having two different bootloader parts as long as the major version is the same. eg: 1.01 / 1.05 or 2.17 / 2.26 (i must try it one of these days)
What happens a lot these days is broken phones due to different major versions. And although nobody took the time to make a study i'd bet that it's a downgrade protection issue from latest bootloaders
cheers

sorry for the off-topic

Attempt to fix my phone

First, my problem started with either updating to the new JFv1.43 recovery, or flashing the new SPL from Haykuro.
Symptoms:
1. Everytime I flash a new ROM, wipe or no wipe, I come back stuck at the T-Mobile G1 boot screen. The only way I've found to get through is to take out battery and boot into ADB (the Camera + Power screen) and "fastboot flash boot boot.img". This almost always work.
2. Nandroid stopped working. Nandroid always errors during the process of backing up, and I'd only have splash1.img and splash2.img in the nandroid folder of my SD card. Kind of want to try reflashing the JFv1.43, or even go back to 1.42 (can't find) for troubleshooting. Also not sure if this would affect the new SPL and cause a brick.
3. "Insufficient storage available" with Dude's and Cyanogen's builds. I'm not sure if this one is related to recovery or SPL. This might be caused by past attempts at doing apps2sd (I've done both symlink and unionfs).
Anyways, losing Nandroid has lost me a lot of time with trying out new ROM's, I'd really like to get it fixed. The boot stuck is a nuisance, but much less troublesome than losing Nandroid.
Its the SPL.

I'm not positive (***so dont do this without researching***) but i think it would be possible to flash to a different one ( i mean, you flashed another SPL over the original one, right? ).
There is a "mega-thread" that has information on all the SPL's and their features/updates. If the info is anywhere, it's prob in there. Search in the Dev forum.

I have flashed from the New H SPL to the HardSPL i originally had on the phone when I found out people were having trouble with the SPL. I install the NEW SPL again to run Hero, but you CAN flash it back to the older SPL I would recomend HARDSPL though.
*not responsible if this doesn't work but I was able to do this without any trouble. Was just a bit nerve racking.
i am 99% sure the above post is correct, don't flash a different radio, but you can flash another SPL right over the Haykuro SPL. i would double check that as there is a 1% chance it will totally screw your phone and i don't wanna be the guy that told you to do something that bricked your phone, but it should work. just to be safe you should make sure splash1 is the t-mo g1 screen so if it stops you can call t-mo
i flashed from the latest haykuro spl 1.33.2005 , to the original t-mobile spl HBOOT-0.95.0000. I fastbooted and it was showing the original spl installed.

if it's haykuro's spl...
Hopefully, you READ & FOLLOWED the directions and flashed the RADIO first, then flashed the SPL. If you did not, then your phone is bricked.
if u cn get into recovery reflash ur rom. and like everyone else says hope u flashed the radio 1st
I did the radio first
I was able to boot into recovery, i tried a wipe and a few things but couldnt get it.
Eventually I got it by reflashing cyanogenmod.

This may sound like a silly question but please forgive me as I have not yet flashed the haykuro spl.
Once you've flashed the new spl, instead of flashing the update.zip of the cyanogen rom, can't you use nandroid restore? Or will that restore the previous spl as well (in my case HARD SPL)?
I ask because I would like to try the spl, but I'm so comfortable with my rom and settings that I would hate to wipe just to try Hero which is still in development. Call me crazy, but I like stable and finished builds. But I am curious and with a lot of time on my hands but not so much that I'm willing to lose everything just to try something that I'm not going to keep.

I'm not actually sure about using nandroid after the SPL flash, but I'm certain that nandroid doesn't copy your SPL (I could be wrong). It would make sense for it to work.

[SOLVED] - HD2 Flirting with the Devil.....

Anyone need a building block?
My HD2 is a total brick. HSPled and flashed rom (Romeos by Monx). Rom installed properly but the device cant start. Even after hard reset the thing is stuck at hTC white screen! Turns out that I should have flashed compatible radio first; But I am learning this after the fact. Nobody told me so.
Now please tell me what to do before i do something stupid. How do I install a compatible radio on a comatose HD2. Can I flash radio from the bootloader? Do I have to downgrade the rom first? Or must I install from the Sd card.
Guys I think a massive depression is setting in.
boot to boot loader, flash the radio using customruu just like you did the rom. job done.

+1 on this.
Don't panic. Experienced the same behaviour with same ROM (and proper radio).
Enter the boot loader and reflash via USB or microSD (both ways worked for me).
l.o.l. yeah, if hspl on and you used customruu it's all fine.
Even if not, you can flash stock always with goldcard.
surprised that it did not say on the first page what radiorom was recommended/necessary. In fact most 2.xx based roms state the need for a 2.07 or 2.08 radio.
1) reset the phone
2) hold on to the volumn down button till the 3-coloured screen (that's bootloader)
3) flash the radio ROM via USB
4) reset
Solved
Problem solved!
Ha ha apparently the panic was as a result of a false alarm. I flashed a compatible radio from the bootloader and all is well now.
Thank you all for the tips. I just needed a true and tested method to resolve the matter. And by the way Romeos rom by Monx is the bomb - better than Windows Phone 13 Series!!!!
