IPL & SPL Version Mismacth - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi
My o2 xda mini s - used to hang @ start up soft and hard reset dint work out for me so i tried flashing my handset by this process given by MR Vippie http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
the complaint is still same and now the handset versions is something like this
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.05
GSM 01.12.10
OS 1.5.4.2
pls help

If you did the unlocking that it looks like you were trying to do, then now you have to flash back to an official ROM like T-Mobile 2.26 to get your IPL/SPL back to the same version.

i haven't personally done this version of unlocking, but the common advice is that IPL and SPL should be the same number. if they aren't you should keep reflashing the button rom until they are both 1.05...then CID and flash back to a 2.xx rom. it doesn't hurt to reflash the buttons...1.01 and 1.05 doesn't look right...

ok thankyou for ur precious suggestion i will try flashing with this versions

Another odd thing. When I flashed my wizard I first flashed it back to 1.05 to unlock it. I then flashed it forward to I think the T-Mo 2.26 which was then new. I had to do this second flash twice because the first time it only got the bootloader. From the instructions I had read, though, it appears this is normal or at least not uncommon?

invalid vender id
this update utility cannot be used for your pda phone. please check your update utility
this is the error i get when i flash it with t-mobile 2.26 any other version or some kind of hardware damage

did you go through the unlocking process enablerapi, etc? sounds like you might not have CID unlocked, so it won't let you flash a rom from a different carrier. (in this case, I'm assuming you have cingular). when you flash with buttons 1.05 and both ipl/spl are the same, then go through the unlock process again.

ok sir
will try ur process n post results

I'd also bet that the CID unlocking didn't go through but i don't think it's a big deal having two different bootloader parts as long as the major version is the same. eg: 1.01 / 1.05 or 2.17 / 2.26 (i must try it one of these days)
What happens a lot these days is broken phones due to different major versions. And although nobody took the time to make a study i'd bet that it's a downgrade protection issue from latest bootloaders
cheers
PS:
sorry for the off-topic

Down-Grade

My device is in good condition and running WM6 Black, however, I got a new job that provides a PDA phone, so Im wanting to sell my Cingular 8525 (walking around with two PDA's on my belt is a little much). Before I sell my 8525 I want to put it back to Factory setting so whoever buys it doesn't have problems from cingular. I've read through the forums and couldn't find anything about downgrading a device. I went to HTC and got the latest official rom from them for cingular, but before I try to flash that I just want to make sure it wont brick my phone because of the upgraded Radio and SPL that I have. I need to know if it will put the radio and SPL back to factory versions? if not any way to put everything back to factory/offical cingular release. My device info in listed in my Sig. i'm sorry if this is posted somewhere else, i promise I read through every search result and looked through the wiki. Please help? (unless someone wants to buy a moded 8525 ;-) )

I have done upgrade to WM6 and downgrade to factory ROM a couple of times, and my JASJAM hasn't got any problem.

its the SPL I'm worried about, I've read on here before that when sent back to cingular/HTC for repair or what not that the warrenty was voided and the customer was charged for a new phone because it had a forign bootloader/spl. thats what worries me a little.

You'll have to downgrade the SPL to 1.10 or less first, otherwise that factory ROM won't overwrite it. This is clearly detailed in the Hard-SPL release notes/thread (see link in my sig).

I've downloaded ruu_hermes_1.34.502.1_1.16.00.00_wwe_cws_ship.exe from HTC website for cingular 8525. Should I flash that first, then try to find a factory SPL to flash, then flash the cingular rom again to get the SPL back to what the current released spl/rom settings are? Where do i find the factory SPL, I only see Hard-SPL-V6.zip.

To repeat, Hard-SPL > 1.10 purposefully prevents overwriting the SPL (as do the factory SPL's > 1.04). The downgrade guide doesn't address this, unfortunately.
You'll need to downgrade to Hard-SPL 1.10 (yes, there's something other than V6 still available), then reflash the factory ROM or your repackaged radio/SPL nbh.

I downloaded SPL-OliproMFG. extracted. used koch to make the nbh with the SPL.* file (not the SSPL file) and the ruuwrapper to update the phone. I chose SPL-1.11/1.13/1.30/1.40 New bootloader because thats the current SPL on my phone (SPL-1.40) with the option Hard-SPL checked. It connects to the phone, transerfer 100% and resets the phone. After it boots I press the okay and power +reset and it still showes SPL-1.40.Olipro.
Did I download the wrong file or am I using the wrong settins on the RUUwrapper? I'm doing my best to read through everything and actually try, that is what i'm told will not piss off the senior members, you are willing to help those that try to help themselves. so I appreciate everything you guys are offering me. I just wanted to let you know that.

Yes and yes. Use the Hard-SPL link in my sig to get 1.10 - Olipro SPL (a.k.a. "flavour 2"). You have to force SSPL when flashing it, otherwise it won't downgrade (for the same reason your factory ROM isn't downgrading it).
To flash the old spl, put it into an nbh image as in the guide, when you flash using RUU select force SSPL. voila
Everything is back to normal and working GREAT! Thanks for all of your help!

Perhaps you could update your downgrading guide to reflect this? I see "Why didn't my SPL downgrade?" questions all the time.
Also, IMO when reverting to "factory", one should downgrade SPL last, or at least separate from the radio. By doing so, you would retain the anti-bricking and "quick flash" (if > 1.10) benefits of Hard-SPL while flashing the radio, which as we know is the most risky.

Agreed, except that if one has Hard-SPL > 1.10 installed on their device (which so many do at this point), they can't just repackage SPL.nb from the original factory ROM per the guide and expect it to downgrade (which is what krisg0 encountered). Same holds true for factory SPL > 1.04.
Thought perhaps you could take the guide one step further to say that if you have Hard-SPL > 1.10, you must downgrade to Hard-SPL = 1.10 before a factory SPL flash will overwrite it. I believe this to be the primary reason Olipro left v1.10 available.
IMO, adding this bit of info to the guide has the potential of cutting down on a lot of "How do I downgrade my SPL?" questions.
It's your guide, of course -- just thought I'd offer my 2 cents for improving it and maybe even eliminate some repetitive questions on the forum...

You dont need to downgrade the SPL twice, simply package the old the SPL into the nbh image then flash using customRUU....select force SSPL and it WILL overwrite the SPL regardless of the version you currently have.

OK, yeah, that would be the more direct route when disassembling and repackaging the factory nbh and downgrading in stages. I just didn't see anything about forcing SSPL on the SPL part, that's all.

Yes ofcourse, the only real use for flashing an old radio and old SPL is incase you want to send it back for warranty....however my guide is just for downgrading to WM5

I see your point. In that case, leave radio and SPL out of it.
Personally, I don't know why anyone would want to go back to WM5 other than for warranty purposes!

Wow this really works
I had:
Cingular 8525 Network: Cingular
OS: CUSTEL Windows Mobile VI Professional v2.5 (Cingular Version)
CE OS: 5.2.1413 OS Build: 17741.0.2.1 ROM date: 04/17/07
Radio version: 1.40.30.00 SPL-2.10Oli IPL: 1.04 (SuperCID)
I FOLLOWED directions and put the reg At&t RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship
JUST LIKE NEW - I just had to see if I could do it... loading back my CUSTEL

radio upgrade

when using the RUU update to upgrade my radio it says i have image version 2.11.255.1
is this newer than SPL 2.10.olipro?
do i NEED to flash to HardSPLv7 just to upgrade the radio to Radio version 1.41.00.10?
its a softbank X01T WM5
image version and SPL version are unrelated. With Olipro 2.1, you have all you need. Feel free to flash with reckless abandon.
SPL 2.10.olipro = HardSPL v7

well that is the only version # the program gives
i cant seem to get to bootlooader mode to find out more
and if i do decide to flash to that spl, all my data on the device is still there right? it only wipes when u upgrade the rom?
i really really only want to upgrade the radio. is it perfectly safe to do the upgrade without hardSPLv7?
Someone Please Tell Me
i wouldn't upgrade ANYTHING without hard-spl
read EVERYTHING at http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/ before flashing
if you don't, please don't come crying here if you brick your device.
btw, not flashing the radio properly WILL brick your device
I seem to be following SkyyBoy in posting recently and giving some of the same advice.
You can flash a radio without hardspl and it is safe as long as NOTHING GOES WRONG. If something goes wrong during the flashing process (such as power failure, PC BSOD etc) then you have a $500 paperweight.
If you put hardspl V7 (or 2.10 - same thing) on your phone before flashing radio then if a problem happens you can recover the brick.
No one here will recommend flashing the radio without hardspl.
Why are ytou reluctant to put this on your phone? If it's for warranty reasons later, this can be removed (also in Mrvanx's guides I think).

You need to read up alot more before trying to flash anything.
Flashing an SPL or a Radio does NOT lose your data.

Downgrade to original WM5 from O2 no longer possible

Hello,
I used Step I nivid to downgrade to wm5 before I upgraded to wm6 from kamalneet, link to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349603
But I have some major problem with the rom, when I now want to donwgrade back to the official WM5 from my provider O2 it always says that the nbf file is to old and i have to get a newer one.
This problem only occured after I used "nivid wm5" in kamalneet's post for downgrading.
I can downgraded with different "Step1" Roms posed in this forum but not with the original one as it was possible before!
And also after downgrading with one of these roms the error message keeps the same!
Is there any way that I can get my original O2 rom back?
Thanks!!
search for HardSPL and flash it! after that your SPL Version will be: 2.4G.4PDA THEN!!! you can downgrade to ANY SPL. just flash latest o2 ROM and you will be back at SPL 2.20.0001 again!
i've tried it already it REALLY works!!!
i just flashed back to my dopod original rom.
Original rom is still the best.
here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350033
Whoops... i was wrong.. now corrected - SoftSPL!!!

Yep, just as nForce said:
You can use HardSPL.
But if you want to set it all back to the old-fashioned original-values you have to go through an even looooonger way (have done it by myself) - you have to go down to IPL 2.10 or lower to have your device back to IPL 2.15 from original O2 ROM, otherwise it remains 2.20 or higher *caugh* -
but then it's back to original in every aspect.
You have to go into SoftSPL (that whitescreen), then from WIKI back to IPL 2.10 (see wiki), followed by going back into SoftSPL and with whitescreen to SPL 2.15 or lower. After that you can take the nbf from the O2-Upgrade-File and flash with the ROMUpdateUtility_NV_G4.exe from Upgrade_Package.zip.
Just take the nk.nbf from the original O2 Firmware (after starting somewhere in %TEMP% or by extracting setup-file), then put it in "Upgrade Utility" flash it and boot will say:
O2-Screen
IPL 2.15.0001
SPL 2.15.0001
GSM 02.19.21
OS (don'tknowexactly)
regardless of which version you ever have had flashed onto your device before.
Happy flashing.
offtopic: what are these I/SPL 3.0something versions for? Just for preventing going to other ROMs?
Not HardSPL but SoftSPL
whoops... it's even easier than that.
regardless of IPL and SPL-Version just follow the steps to get into SoftSPL (the White-screen) WITHOUT flashing HardSPL
Then do the firmware-update from O2 (the O2-shipped-one) and everything should work fine. (after this procedure your phone should look like a virgin, with no HardSPL, with CID-Lock (if not unlocked before), original ROM and ExtROM)

P4350 problem flashing stock SPL after Hard SPL

Hi guys,
at first i want to thank you for any solution or info you provide in this forum, it helped me in a lot of cases.
I'm looking for a solution for a problem i'm facing, I have two P4350 which the second is from a friend of mine.
This P4350(HERA100 IPL/SPL 4.x the second device) was bought through ebay and had the german windows mobile 6.0 on it. I couldnt flash the WWE edition of windows mobile 6 because of an error saying "Invalid Vendor ID" so i assume it was a CID Locked.
So I did the first thing i found on this forum and after a lot of reading on how to do it, i installed the Hard SPL from Aserg. The problem is when I try to install the extended rom which comes from the distributor here in Greece of HTC Phones.
Apparently they have done something and somehow it recognizes that i have installed wrong SPL and always reboots(it displays an error msg inside the OS enviroment and after 5 sec it reboots) when the WWE OS start after the installation of the programs inside off Extended ROM.
So after some more reading i found that i could have used the USPL method for bypassing the CID Lock. Correct?
Now my problem is that I want to remove the Hard SPL to install the officially shipped edition of SPL + WWE ROM using USPL.
Whichever solution I use to remove the Hard SPL it just wont go away!
I even installed the German edition again with the hope that it will install the stock SPL again. It says that is being flashed but the SPL doesnt even change! While the ROM is being flashed correctly and windows boot without any problem
I have tried Flash Center, Stock Rom(German & WWE) and lots of different removals for Hard SPL but nothing worked!
Is there any workaround/solution for this problem? I have no problem to use any tools or console based ones but I need some information or a tutorial so as to not brick the device.
Thanx in regard for any help and sorry for the long post but I wanted to describe all the steps that I followed to get here.
P.S. If this post is in the wrong thread please tell me so.

HELP NEEDED Please - 8525 brick!

hello, i have read and read all the wiki's, but ive not been able to fix my phone.
i use a cingular 8525 (herm100) phone, and cannot install any rom on the phone. I have two versions of the At&t ROM with radio's and tried them both, but they all stop at 11-12 %.
i have tried usind the sd-card method, and it does not pass the "GSM - " portion.
i guess the radio is not working or is corrupt or something..
my phone is now in bootloader and just says
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
please any help will be appreciated. thank you!!!!
wow.. can anyone even say "sorry"
geez.. 35 views, and not even one reply, or consolation message, or anything??
I would update your copy of Windows Mobile Device Center first (especially if you're using Vista). Flash SPL and the radio, then flash any rom to see what happens. I mean really at this point, it's already a brick... try some crazy stuff, you can't hurt it anymore than it already is. I did the same thing to mine a couple of months ago, and after trying these things, I got it working again without a problem.
update to hard spl ver.7.
try to flash
a). stock rom (sometimes this works)
b). radio only rom.
Also make sure you unlock your phone with this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665

Just to make sure I understand, the unlocker you linked is to SIM and CID unlock, correct ?? And then on top of that - you should update to HardSpl also ??
I have an 8525 on its way that I will be looking to upgrade - just want to make sure I am understanding correctly.

sorry for the late reply
i have been dealing with this for 3 days and finally managed to run official AT&T rom for 4 days wout hard reset.
there is a method dumping an official himalaya rom to hermes. az pof explained in one of his posts all commands except radio commands are different in himalaya so it is safe to use dumping method.
it basically deletes everything in radio rom so you can install official rom.
PS: at first install official rom stucked %12 i said damn but in second try %15 third try success
i am at work now i dont have the link of method but try googling or searching my posts (not too much )
i hope it solves your problem
bartan
thanks guys, i've tried some things
i have tried using Hard SPL v.7 it does not work.
i have tried using official cingular roms too. stops at 11% no success.
i have tried upgraing radio only, stops a 0% and restarts the device.
i have also used mtty, with some text inputs, no success
i have even tried selling the brick on e-bay .... as you can guess no success.!
bill_in_mtl, sorry bout lateness of my reply ( net problems), yes you do unlock sim and cid. Sim unlock means you can use ANY simcard from any carrier and Cid unlock means you can flash ANY hermes rom (both official or cooked). It needs to be unlocked first as the spl is downgraded to 1.40 (I think) and you should REALLY be running with 2.10 olipro (hard SPL ver 7). I wouldnt bother upgrading to Hard SPL ver 9 a this is essentially only ver 7 with some neat features for developers but it does throw up an error message when you finish flashing a rom(no problems t just feels like it).
Hard SPL WON'T stop you from bricking your phone BUT it will make it easier to recover.
roomtek*8525, sorry to hear that but have you tried flashing with a cooked rom? This unfortunately wont fix the phone part but you will have a working PDA...If you've tried MTTY with info 8 and task 2a commands then thats the best to hope for, Sorry bout that..
