guys yesterday i was browsing the net and my HD switched off, im was using Duttys 3.4, i thought there maybe a problem with the rom so i switch to onkologs latest rom now the problem has started all over again! is there some settings or something i can go to to fix it? the phones useless if this keeps happening, its happened again while writing this!

When you mean switching off do you mean phone actually turns off and you need to reboot or does the screen just darken and then go black?
If its the latter you will need to go to setiings > all settings > power > and adjust backlight/advanced screen settings.

Sorry to state the obvious, but have you checked battery status (i.we. no power in battery)? Or you may have a faulty battery. Try taking battery out and use usb cable plugged into socket (battery does not need to be in for this) to see if phone still switching off when on AC power instead of DC battery. If phone still switches off when on AC you will know its not a battery issue and maybe a rom related or hardware problem.
Let me know so we can narrow this down
batterys currently on 60%, im not sure what it is it only started when i flashed duttys 3.4, was thinking it might be a problem moving from 6.5 back to 6.1, but today flashed onologs 6.5 rom and after a while it started again, ive changed the power options in settings (2nd post) seems to have done the trick for now, wanted to ask though does changing the radios have any significance?

Generally speaking a new version of radio improves signal, reception, gps fix and battery consumption.
EDIT
I see you have changed 2nd post. Glad it worked. In future when you modify a post can you put a EDIT so when scanning threads its easier to see when someone has changed something. Thanx

Hello all,
First let me say that i have searched hight and low for some info about this but didn't get anything (not just on this site but the internet in general).
I bought a t-mobile UK HD2 and have used HardSPL to flash stock HTC ROM 1.66.405.2 from the HTC website - so far so good...
Now I have two issues:
First - when i first turn on the phone i didn't get the "welcome wizard" that normally sets up the connections and email accounts etc... Its like the first run screen is hidden and never completes, when I turn off the phone you can briefly see the "learn about the on-screen keyboard" wizard as Manilla closes
Second - each time i restart the phone it turns on the wifi, even when i specifically turned it off.
My thoughts are that the startup wizard never finishes so there are some settings that don't retain each reboot?
I have tried several hard reboots, and used Task29 to format and re-install the rom from scratch, the connection autosetup isn't such a big deal for me as i can run them manually however this phone is mean to be going to my brother and i don't want him to have any problems in future if he has to reset it...
Anyone see this before or have any suggestions?

Go into comm manager and switch the phone to off wait about a minute then switch it back on again, the setup wizard should appear after that.
Superb thank you,
Fixed on both counts! Is this quite a well know issue then?

Same here. I found the solution completely by accident but the start wizard being hidden in the background was really starting to annoy me. Glad it's sorted now.

Just switching on airplane mode also brings the wizard on top so you can compleate it.
i had same problems and stumbled over this, great help.. thanks!
Hi, does anyone experience the same thing? HD2 turns off and can't be turned on again. Have to remove the battery for it to be able to turn on, it looks like its stuck in power saving mode.
it is also known as the 'sleep of death' by the xda-people.
just go find a better ROM or radio or check which app is causing the issue.
or do a search. Im sure youll come up with lots of solutions since its quite a common problem.
It shouldn't be hard
good luck

Could it be the below setting that is the cause.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585289Start > Settings > Menu > All Settings > Today > Items
The setting "Today timeout", at the bottom left hand corner,
should not be selected/enabled.
Hi, thanks for that little info. Yes it was enabled, will see if it does it again. Had it since November and never had any issues, but to turn on the phone I had to remove the battery.
Will see thanks.
My phone switches off almost every day now and sometimes several times in one day. I've used about 6 different Artemis roms (I don't think it's rom related) and various radios and also tried MemMaid but still no success. Have just switched back to 8GB from my 16GB card in case that is the problem. Update:switched from 16GB to 8GB card and phone has not switched itself off.
Hi there,
Recently purchased TM Leo and I am on stock ROM 2.13531.1 (90963) WWE.. for last 2 days the cell backlight keeps coming on indicating that some program is running in the background.. causing the battery to drain within 12hrs with little use. Tried flwg to solve the issue:
1] thinkin it cud be due to additionally loaded programs.. tried hard reset and reverted to stock rom but the problem persists. I'd ESET AV, Skype for WM, GPSed, pocket RAR & cleanRAM installed.
Even d cleanRAM Level-2 purge & hard reset has not solved d issue. task manager does not show any programs running.
2] to my understanding some additional process running in d background is causing d issue.. but i dont possess sound knowledge to kill d processes. FYG flwg processes r available to kill thru cleanRAM:
Below list: process name (my understanding.. pls correct, if wrong)
NK (understand its a kernel - cannot be killed)
BTTrayCE (general - shud not cause d issue)
AudioManager_en (not sure)
voicecmd (dont use - can be killed)
AlbumSearcher (dont use - can be killed)
poutlook (required)
SyncManager (general - shud not cause d issue)
imforwarding (dont use - can be killed)
EsetOAMobile (required)
manila (required)
siHome (not sure)
siwatcher (not sure)
tmail (not sure)
BTW.. m in India n using unlocked (code fm T-Mo) Leo on Vodafone india.
Appreciate ur response & help.. its frustrating to charge twice a day..

Many events can trigger the backlight, e.g. sms, email, reminders, alarms, etc. And the settings are all in different places.
Instead of trying to find out what is turning it on, why don't you just change your power settings, e.g. when on battery, dim or standby after 1 minute of no activity. That way, even if it turns on, it will turn off after the inactivity period. You can change the power settings at: Settings|Sound & Display|Backlight

My backlight settings r at 30s/1min. Understand that.. but it happens way too often.. say avg every 3 mins. besides initially this phenomenon wasn't happening earlier n battery wud last easy for a day with similar use.
thanks thou.
When you did a hard reset and without installing any programs, does this problem occur? If not, then install one program and a time and observe if it happens.
If your HD2 is turning on every 3 minutes then something is definitely wrong.
i use netripper's proximity screen off to disable backlight when not in use. look for it here in xda. the backlight turns on for so many reasons we're not aware of and when one of the hard keys is pressed inadvertently, e.g. even inside the bag or pocket. this app turns it off, thus saving battery, using the proximity screen. i always put my hd2 upside down on the table for example and let this app take care of turning off the screen for me.

Did you find a fix for this? My tmo hd2 is doing the same thing, screen keeps waking up every 30 sec to a min killing my battery. Im running kumar 2.9. tried reflashing, hard reset, tast 29, flashed new radio, nothing seems to slove this.
This sounds like the "car kit issue" again. Basically the contacts within the USB port corrode and it shorts out 2 pins that are meant to be shorted out with a resistor when the car kit is plugged in, this signals the HD2 to stay turned on, and to usually launch the navipanel, speaker phone enabled by default in calls.
Unfortunately there is no known fix for this you will have to do a warranty swap though t-mobile. I had to swap mine for this very reason about a month and a half ago.
I now keep tape over my USB port to keep debris and moisture out. i am on the lookout for a rubber plug to fit in there. I charge my batteries using a standalone charger, physically swaping out the battery in the phone every morning. Added benefit of the phone getting a reboot in the morning. It also comes in handy because I now have 3 batteries and can bring spares along when i know ill be away from a power source awhile and be using the phone alot.
There is a whole thread about this issue in the normal HD2 forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619859
Thanks for the info. I looked at mine, it looked ok little dirt nothing big. Cleaned it out, but still did it. So I put it back to bone stock, even took off the hspl. That seemed to do the trick, it not waking up by itself any more. The rom I updated must of messed up the hspl some how.

problem solved after flashing the latest 3.14 rom.. now running stock 3.14 (stock spl) and mattc 1.8 android.. both real smooth with over 24h battery life.
btw.. got my bricked hd2 repaired by JTAG (ORT) n now runnin as gud as new on latest 3.14 rom.
well, i was following a thread about it, but i guess it was deleted cause it was in wrong area...
if a fix was found please tell me! =oP
it seems to be a commom issue: when i try to turn off the phone, it just turn on again...
what i've done until now: i was running cm7 and i believed it was a rom related issue, but i'm back to uk stock (1.32.405.6) and keep it with no root (just ship s-off that remains after flash ruu), and the problem remains, just take a little longer to turn on again... BUT, when i plug it into pc by usb cable it stays off, when i unplug it turns on again...
i'm tending to believe that's a hardware issue, maybe a short in phone plug, but in this case, it is the most commom issue that i've saw...
any idea is welcome
thanks...
Edit:
Okay Folks, looks like the "fix" was found. I made a little summary for the next generation! =oP
this weird issue happened due summer time changes (don't ask why), but after March 27 the phone simply didn't stay off, if you tried, it just turned on again.
The "fix" is:
- disable automatic hour update (just in case)
- remove battery and let it out for around 10 hours, then put it back and turn on!
- Hour and date may reset (or not)
- now you can reactivate automatic hour update if you want.
- the device just stays off properly again
credits for
XL3N7 that found the problem,
Rodomar705 that found how to fix in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014520
And everyone else that probally lost every data (like me) so many times trying find out how to solve it. =oP
I really dont understand why the admins deleted and not removed the thread from the development section.
What really happens: I have my dhd with cm7 around two months now and i always flashed the nightlies.I know the issue, when the phone is powered off and plug a charger reboots in cwm recovery. I never had problem just to "power off" my phone and actually did that every night before going to bed (so i know that the "power off" used to work ok) .Two days ago i flashed RC3 , power off worked ok, then nightly 32 and next morning i had the issue. When i select to "power off", without any charger or usb connected , phone just reboots.Just to remind you that if the phone is powered off and you connect it to charger then the phone goes to cwm recovery! So i tried various combinations :
1. Back to stock 1.32 (both with img file and exe file). After that flashed 3.0.0.5 and the newer version of cwm
Phone powered off correcty and the vol down+power goes to hboot. After flashing cm7 problem appears again.
2. Also had a backup and load it (nightly from 16/02/11) but still the same problem.
Please devs tell me what kind of files you need in order to help me solving the issue.
Also i see posts from guys using other custom roms and having the same problem, so i dont really understand why the admins deleted last night the thread started in development section.
You guys using customs rom just check if your power off works and if you have problem write it here and hope not to be deleted.
@thiagodark I think you have to change a little bit thread's title
same problem!!....i think is a bug of CWM...or there is a conflict between recovery and "idontknow"!!....
this situation is funny ... we are afraid to brick and our DHD doesn't want to turn off...
well, i think my problem is a little different, cause i get this problem even after flash official ruu, i'm all stock right now and the phone keeps reboot when i try to power off. when i select "power off" with micro usb cable connected, it works okay, but when i disconnect, it power on again.
Also, sometimes when i try to power off with or without the micro usb connected, it just dies and the only way i can power on it again is by removing the battery.
suggest me a tittle and i change, as you can see, my engrish is not something i can proud myself! =oP

Ok, I think I have found the problem.
Go to settings --> Date & Time, untick the option to use network values and set the date somewhere before the 27th of March when the daylight changes took place. Reboot and power off. The phone should stay off (at least it did for me). Now power on, go to date & time settings and tick the option to use network times. Power off and it will probably come back on.

No its not a bug of 3.0.2.4 r1(i had 3.0.0.5 when problem appears). As i wrote everything worked perfect (cm7+cwm 3.0.0.5) till one morning (was on cm7 nightly 32+cwm 3.0.05) want to boot in bootloader, so i select to power off. After that never powered off. What makes me nervous is that i didnt install any appl or changed the cwm recovery version.Nothing like that.I always powered off my phone so i know that there is not cm7 nightly related.
So the big question is what changed in a few minutes?
What the f******k?????? Daylight? )))))))))))

I have no idea m8. I've just put 2 & 2 together. The issue first appeared shortly after the time change. Maybe a bug in htc's code? Surely not a cm thing. I have tried fastboot erase system -w and the problem was still there. I have also tried different radios, cwm versions and the issue is still there. Probably HTC. Hopefully one of the greater minds of this forum can pin point the issue.
Perfectly good work around
Hi, If you want to, you can untick the setting in Date & Time and install Clocksync from the Market. Using this app you can sync your phone's time at whatever schedule you like to the atomic clock (it is much more accurate than HTC's provider).
This will enable you to shut down correctly and have accurate time displayed on your device.
You need root though.

So,it is a bug of HTC ?in other words,Even if we do nothing,It still will happen sooner or later?
When I try to use it five minutes in the touch seems to be messing up, its selecting by itself, going to my navigation bar and then does a swipe down gesture on my status bar also seems to be tapping keys on my keyboard by itself
I recently upgraded to android 5.1
