I am taking part in a 1 week cycle for charity. During that time I would like to be able to give people the option to locate me.
I know about sprite terminator but done want to give people the password for that. During th ejournet while I am on the bike I will not have internet access.
Is this easily possible ?
Can I install a program that will accept sms gps location requsts?
Is there some other (better) way to do this ?
many thanks

It is very easy with this...
I use SportsDo. Works great, and you can post to Facebook etc...
thanks guys, do either of these services work via sms? remember I will not have any internet connection while on the bike.
SportsDo doesnt. Check this link out for other programs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=471864&highlight=sportsdo
actually I have just realised that my o2 sim (mobile internet) works in the phone so that provides the possibility of a constant on internet connection (I have a 10GB data plan with them).
So, I am looking at Sportsdo again. The only problem I am seeing is power. The app does not seem to have a power saving (backlight off) mode. Is this correct ? How do other SportsDo users cope with power usage?
many thanks

Can you confirm, does SportsDo have a power saving mode ? How do you invoke it ?

free is absolutely great if you dont care about extras and you just want to chat. other than that.. its a hacked version of an old version of aim. its very buggy. doesnt auto switch from landscape to portrait and vice versa. doesnt show all of your buddies. and the list goes on. but its free and it works. so i dont complain.

yeah, VERY BUGGY. everytime i run the program, when i power off my phone (just by tapping, not holding power button) and turn it back on, it wont turn on. also when i go to the program (while it's already running) from the start menu, more than likely the phone will just freeze, causing me having to reset the phone.
grew tired of it & just deleted it the other day. thinking about looking into either IM+ or Agile. any suggestions between the two??
Here is AIM: www.aol.uk.co/aim/wince/index.html ... <it could be www.aol.co.uk/aim/wince/index.html but not sure...>
to use it, start it, then try to instant message someone by typing in there screen name and a message, at that point the sign in box will pop up and set it to sign u in automatically.
if i had to pick one.. IM+ is def. the best ive used.. its $40 (expensive) but it has a today plugin, custom away messages, keeps you logged in, and has like 4 other services you can use with it.
Great thanks guys. How does 'staying logged in' effect battery life? I mean say you didnt IM anyone but it was on all day, will your battery die quickly? I havent tested Pocket MSN but I thought it seemed to take up more battery when I had it up
Try this aim and see if you like it.. Its Free.

The old aim that was hacked for wm5, works fine here...I use it nightly, goes from landscape to port.
I have a G1 right now and I am planning on purchasing a TP2 when it is available in my area. What I want to know is (and I guess this can be the official thread for this) does Winmo have an "equivalent" or similar apps for the following android apps:
123Spoof: App that allows the end caller to see a different phone number that is not yours.
A2B:Allows you to save your location using GPS so you can find it later.
Anetshare = Touch Pro 2 WiFi Router: Turns your phone into a wireless access point.
Barcode Scanner: Scans barcodes with camera and searches online for cheapest price for that item.
Call Blocker: Allows you to automatically block callers (they will hear a beeping sound when they call you)
Google Voice: allows you to use your account on your phone through an app. From my understanding there is not an app.
SMSBarrage: Allows you to send 100 txt messages to 1 person all at once.
SMS Commander: Allows you to send a txt to your self with a special code that turns off and on settings. EX. if I text "123456" from any phone to my phone it will turn on gps.
I understand that Winmo is Winmo and Android is Android; They are two operating systems with two different goals. This will not at all persuade my decision in getting a TP2 but it would be nice to be able to have a reference for these similar apps.
As members give me answers I will place them next to the equivalent android app.
Thank you
if this isnt a correct spot for this thread can I have the mods please remove it.

Just about any GPS app does this. I think the latest HTC cameras save GPS info in the picture files too so you can take a picture with GPS info embedded. But I'm pretty sure every single one of the many GPS apps you can get will save your location. I use Tom Tom but there are tons out there.

Helo my beloved community!
So, since the HD2 utilizes quite a lot of the data connection quite frequently (mostly for weather updates), it would be good to have an option to disconnet the data connection automatically. I presume that this is probably a registry hack. This feature can be found for example in TD2/TP2 Tools. I don't want to wait until HD2 Tolls (or Tweaks or something else) shows up (I hope it will quickly because its always something very welcome!), so maybe someone could answer quickly where to tamper with the registry to do that?
Thx in advance!

thanks for the reply but ive installed the cab and restarted but it doesnt seem to do anything
I just did the mentioned reg edits but it didn't seem to work. Then installed the cab to countercheck for my mistake. Didnt change the result, didn't work...
Even though I noticed the CacheTime setting existed from the start and was set to 600 (10 minutes).
SuspendResume original value was "~GPRS!"
Data charges are not so much the issue, I'm just concerned it might drain the battery quicker if the connection remains open permanently.

Try to do the regedits like this:
SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
CacheTime=5 (decimal)
VPNCacheTime=5 (decimal)
It works on my TD2, which to my knowledge has the same WM6.5 as the HD2 does. By the way, did You set the end call button long press to "terminate data connection"? If You did, then UNDO it

Right, You can't check it, as none of the HD2's hardware buttons are configurable Just ignore that question. Anyway, I think Ive figured it out to some point. It looks like the registry hack works whenever the phone connects to the web to for example browse the internet or update stocks. But it DOESN'T WORK if the phone connects to download weather updates. It looks like the Sense weather app is somehow preventing the data connection to shut down. But I think it only happens when automatic weather updates downloading is set.
hmm you do appear to be correct... now why is the weather app hanging onto the data session
Well, just tried setting both CacheTime and VPNCachetime and when checking mail I can confirm it works.
Thanks a lot! Mail checking schedule set up.

absolutely no idea I think someone smarter than us should try to find the answer. Ive already done a rather brief look around the registry and tried to find something that would get the weather app such privileges but with no success. Im thinking of addressing a new topic about that, so its more visible to the community

Twitter app doesn't close the data connection either
This is really annoying me. My battery was draining fast and could not find out why. Now I have found out that it is because I am constantly connected to Mobile Web on O2. I have tried terminating it but it starts again. Even after unchecking auto update for weather and twitter it still turns on and never off. I have mail set to download automatically but if i turn that off too then what is the point of having this phone and feature?
I have tried the setting in HD Tweak app to turn off data after 1 minute but noy joy.
Any help? Pleaseee.

Theres one more thing you should check out. The biggest connection-demander was always the NOT PROPPERLY CLOSED OPERA. If you use the opera browser, be sure to close it NOT with the X in the upper right corner, but through Opera Menu->exit function. If you close it with X, it only goes minimized and does not shut down the connection. Even if you close it, because opera is still running, after some time it will want to refresh a page and conect again. Thats why you have the imression that the phone connects by itsself. Thats not the phone, its opera

Also as stated, weather, opera etc will keep your data connection active...so end task and it should shut down a few seconds later.

I have installed a shortcut to taskmgr in my quicklinks - so if i see something constantly running i end task...it shuts it down rather than minimising it which is what happens when you hit the little X in most cases. The taskmgr tip is in the sticky at the top of the page.

Yes I know what you mean but you can't kill the weather app or twitter in this fashion as they run within Sense itsself. Besides, killing processes is not the point. The point is to have an automatic data disconnection, so you dont have to do or kill anything

Hey guys,
Can any one tell me what the VPN cache time was originally set as?
Is there any way to keep track of the amount of data transferred through GPRS.
I currently subscripe to 200mb transfer per month, so I would like to keep track of this or it could become pretty expensive for me
If you google, you'll find a couple of commercial ones, but I found this for free a while ago. To be honest, I haven't a clue where I got it from, but it was definitely free.

You're welcome
It's a good app - very basic, but does exactly what you need. If I remember correctly, it also ensures that it's always running, until you manually stop it, so if you reboot your phone when it's running, it starts when the phone boots up again.
This looks pretty cool.
Shame it's not got a nicer looking icon
Scary how much data browsing full web pages uses but this device is just sooooo good at it

Yeah it sure works perfectly.
Nice to be able to set the date when it's supposed to restore as well.
Actually I don't find it in the task manager, at least not as a program, so it's no risk that one closes it unintentionally, which is great. It's really super
+1
Thanks
it'S a trial version ... go to "about" and it ask you for a serial number.
It most certainly is.
Well, as long as it's not a trial that will expire it works just fine for me, I don't need any other functions.
I seem to be getting red crosses in the connections is that normal?
That happens when your connection isn't active. If you start surfin the cross will probably disappear
Seems to work so far. 25kb just for email (imap4 headers) and weather update But again the problem that the connection doesn't disconnect by itself after 60sec (seems to happen when I update the weather, otherwise it seems to disconnect fine)
Did you do the tweak so it disconnects?
Remember to disable all auto-update, including weather and TIME!
Then it works with the autodisconnect.

Hey there,
yesterday i was searching around the web cause of my battery drain (my hd2 was empty in <1 day).
Then i found an market app: Battery FU
What does it do? It simply disables mobile data connection, when the hd2 is in standby. after wake up the phone, the network is connecting.
now i lost 4-5% of my battery in ~4h in normal use.
Thats great!
Give it a try and post your experience.
