Flash LED missing from camera mode?

I almost never use the camera mode on my Trion, but last night I wanted to take some shots at a party. When I tried to turn on the flash the icon was gone from the screen. I tried the function list it has flash on/off but when I hit "on" nothing happens. Like I said I almost never use the camera, but I know it use to work. The only thing I did recently was add Hermes Tweek from fit4cat. I have tried soft reset, but I realy don't want to hard reset just for a stupid flash. I'm not the most tech savey guy, so I live in fear of bricking my phone every time I rom update. I like the way its set up now, so if it has no flash so be it.... But the pictures I could have had of last night.....Well, photo ops like that don't happen every day!!!

You probably know this but in case not - as you don't use camera often, the flah icon will vanish if the camera has slipped off straight picture mode into the mode where it takes a series of pictures. i.e if you look top left corner you should see a logo of a camera not three symbols of pictures lying on top of one another. I find mine constantly slips off straightforward picture mode because the jog wheel gets moved without noticing. The jog wheel cycles through all the different camera and video modes.

Nope its in single shot normal camera mode, but thanks for the tip on the scroll weel I did not know that. I think one reason I don't use the camera more is I hate using the styles when I'm taking a picture, so if you have anymore hardware button tricks you want to share.

Don't need stylus for camera. Start camera with button on side of case.
Take pictures with the Dpad button ie one in centre between the two phone buttons.
Accept the piture by pressing it again and your ready for the next picture.
Exit camera by pressing OK hard key button.
Mike
You are ok how ur now mate.....the flash is useless if not u want to use it for torch....even pictures taken from 5-6 feet away dont get any diffrence with flash on and off at night....though 1-2 feet picture will give you a lot of change...all white washed brighten up dude!!!!! i did took atlist 200+ picture with my tytn but i cant remember a picture which were benifited from the using of flash....
anyone any comment??
Night photos
Yup, Sajib, you're right - day photos pretty good, night photos rubbish. Flash 80% useless except for certain angles when taking night photos in macro. I have nothing I would need to photograph in macro in the dark but there maybe many who have!?
Mike
Well I guess I will just have to find my keys with the light of the screen, as that seems to be the only thing it good for. Thanks for the tips. Who knows mabey the flash will come back when I get up the guts to flash the Cingular rom.

Notification LED

Hi! On another forum I was told, that the Touch HD has the LED for signaling missed calls/sms/e-mail etc. built into the power button. Does somebody have any pictures or a video of this in action? Just curious how this looks. Thanks!
Hi all,
I too would like to know this... and I also noticed that www.gsmarena.com says it has video out functionality???? But this feature is not listed on htc.com
Did anyone hear anything about this???
The guy of the frensh video on youtube was live on yahoo a few days after the release of the video.
While he was showing the device it looked to me that the on/off button was blinking or emitting light. At the time i didn't know what it was, but reading your msg i think this must be the LED signal.
So yes, it has a LED signal in the on/off button
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431850
check out this forum thread for the TV out stuff... at the moment it is unlikely that the phone will have this feature, like Raphael, because Raphael was the only one with the required USB connection... Videos show that no such port is on the Blackstone... still hoping though.
The DPad showing the status was a good thing as I got it in the cradle all the time. Having such function on the power button makes it harder to see, but cool nonetheless.
Wish they did it Blackberry style - placing a single very bright LED near the speaker hole on the front... Subtle yet rarely overlooked.

Impressions after 3 days with the HD

Pro's:
- screen (size, sensitivity, resolution)
- fast processor + huge storage memory
- Youtube playback (only use WiFi). Very good quality, only few occasional frame rate issues
- very good phone quality (audio)
- can mostly be operated by finger, although sometimes you do need the stylus. To me that's no problem.
- format (seems big, but fits perfectly it in your jeans' pocket)
So/so:
- Opera. At times I like it, other times I don't. Maybe I just need to get used to it...
- HTC keyboard. It works, but could be improved.
- Camera is OK, but not spectacular.
- no D-pad, although I have barely missed it so far
Cons:
- Soft reset button is behind back cover. Haven't had the need to use it yet but I am afraid this may become annoying
- LED in On/off button looks stylish, but now I have to look closely on top of my device, rather than to get a quick glance from a distance to see if I missed any phone calls or messages
- Device isn't entirely 'flat on the back' because of camera, which causes some instability while operating it lying on a table
- Virtual buttons; didn't find a way yet to assign different functions
- Not all software works (eg. HiCalc). But this will only be a matter of time
Haven't tested yet:
- movie playback
- MP3 playback
- GPS
Conclusion: so far I am pretty happy with the HD. Ofcourse it could be improved. But that counts for all devices out there...
Hah... This is EXACTLY how I view the HD... nice sum-up Apart from Opera, I do like it, even when it's a little sluggish at times, but mainly because it's on the HD i like it, the huge screen makes most of the difference.
For the keyboard I use TouchPal. Google it. Love it.
The camera is GOOD in good lighting conditions but VERY VERY bad in poor lighting, so yeah, so-so average.
Oh, I regard Audio playback as so-so, video playback as PRO despite what a lot of other people think (so-so). My movies play like a breeze and it's all super sharp thanks to the screen (use CorePlayer).
GPS is also a PRO... I used to own the Diamond (which also did an OK job at it) and I don't know what they improved but they did, I easily get 8-12 or even more connections in Google Maps almost instantly. No inherent GPS lag anymore either. I confirmed it was there on my diamond and confirmed it wasn't there anymore on the HD. Except in Google Maps, there is a slight delay, but that has been commonly agreed upon as an issue in GM and not in the HD.
For the soft reset.....
You can either just power down the device (press and hold power button) and then power back on. It's the same as a soft reset.
or...
I use PHM power toys (they are free) and once installed you get a soft reset program icon. Stick that in the program section of touchflo and no need to take the back off

Er... if the phone freezes, then the power button doesn't work - so you need to hit the soft reset button.
I'd like to be able to turn off/change the function of the volume buttons - too easy to accidently press them - and they are very sensitive. When you want to change the volume they seem very nice, tactile and smooth, but they're just too sensitive when you don't...

I'm the guy who sand-papered the faceted back of his diamond, so for me - drilling a small hole in the back cover to uncover the soft reset button would also be an option.
Thats a good point monkeyboy....
....I'll get me coat
I have used the GPS with TomTom 7 and works like a dream.
Tip: Use Quick GPS to download data first - last for 6 days.
I migrated from Trinity to this phone and have never looked back apart
from the camera - is there a way to stop the 3 second delay and take instant photos without autofocus on -perhaps a reg hack?

i cant believ you would actualy do that mate thats realy funny but if you did that wont that cause dust to go into your device and cause damage and how would you sell it of
Hah I still can't believe you sandpaper the back of the Diamond roflmao
But of course he takes the cover off before drilling a hole into it, makes sense don't it
well I am on day two .. its an up and down relationship. One thing doesn't work .. find a how to sort it .. another thing comes up. I wouldn't say that is a phone for the masses.
Day 2 for me and so far:
Pros:
The screen is amazing for ebook reading. Much bigger, clearer & sharper than my Prophet.
I didn't actually realise there was a radio, but it works really well.
The Teeter game is amusing and fun to show off with.
The GPS is very accurate and, because I walk/get the bus, it doesn't need huge amounts of maps, so data's not too bad.
Cons:
TouchFLO has gone. It was too slow for me (no nice run-finger-along-to-scroll)...
No D-pad meant I had to rebind the volume keys to up/down - they work fine now.
The Opera browser doesn't always register my clicks on the links.
I'm very happy with it so far. It does everything I need (which is simple - phone, ebooks, music player!) and does it well with extras. Husband doesn't like it because he likes physical keyboards, but hey!

Take it that goes under the 'Pros' heading then
Day 3 for me too, so I thought I'd share
Pros
blimey - where to start?!
This is my first WM device (see Cons), so pretty much everything is a bonus - but stand out moments have been:
YouTube on the move - I'm not a huge YouTube fan (or at least I wasn't), but I can now while away my time whilst taking a coffee / fag break from work. Beats picking up a book and reading 3 pages before having to put it down.
GoogleMaps. No huge use for me as satnav (got that built into the car), but lots of fun already showing it off to mates LOL
Lots of techy tweaking to be done (yes, I am a Geek at heart...)
Onbviously at lots of this is down to the size and quality of the screen - the main reason that this is my first WM device was being put off by trying to browse etc on a screen the size of a large stamp - the HD size (for me) is about the best compromise - big enough to read, small enough to fit in the pocket.
Cons
becuase it is my first WM device, I'm still trying to desperately get my head around it all!
Getting there though
Congrats on your HD!
Half my friends group has the iPhone, the rest, well, something else. Then I got my HD and lots of them ordered it too, so now it's 4 HD's My father and brother both got the Diamond, and at work many of my colleagues have some version of HTC phone ranging from the TyTNII to the Touch Pro... These things pop up everywhere...

how does it work?

i turn on the front camera, in landscape mode, i look at my self and i see my self correctly. i rotate the phone 90 degrees (portrait mode, upright), and i still see my self correctly. i rotate the phone 180 degrees from where i started and i still see myself correctly. i turn again 270 degrees from where i started and i still see my self correctly.
you would think that when i rotate my phone, i would see my self sideways? can someone explain this?
i dont have video call so i dont know how the other person would see me when i turn the phone from landscape mode to portrait.
LOL
Yeah, you should definitely send your phone to a service centre! It's malfunctioning, they should replace it under warranty.
Really now... I hope you're kidding. Right?
no im not kidding. im just a bit puzzle. i have another phone with a camera, and when i turn the phone, the image doesnt rotate and so i will see my self side ways.
i know its sounds weird and im just trying to figure out whats going on or if my logic is wrong. im sure its my logic but im trying to find the explanation.
the phone is turning. your not.
yeah i know that. im still trying to reason it on my own. as i mentioned, my other phone, when i point the camera at myself and rotate the phone, ill see my self sideways.
o lol wow
thats trippy i have no clue how that happens unless you take a picture
are you serious or just mocking me.

prehaps that phone had acceloremeter?
but no matter what, as long as you're still in camera mode(assuming you're still using front camera), and not viewing a picture, to which angle you turn your phone to, you'll still see yourself upright!
now now, but if you were to take a photo at which ever angle you specified at, and were to view it in landscape mode(90 degree normal view) you would see the picture NOT upright. it would appear at whatever degree you held your camera/phone at just now.
yeah i know it doesnt have an accelerometer. my reasoning is screwed but im just trying to see where i am going wrong.
i do know if that i do take a picture, it will be upside down or what ever way i had the camera. i just cant grasp my reasoning at the moment.

OMG,
can you PLEASE take a video of yourself starring into your phone and wondering why on the display you are not hanging from the ceiling
......................
There actually is a reason.
Xperia uses MIRRORED image when using front camera. Front camera acts like mirror .. you rise your right hand .. and the person on the picture will rise his left hand .. which is now on the right side.
But that is not how normally cameras work. Normally you would see your correct, not mirrored picture. If you rise your right hand, the person on the picture will too raise his right hand .. which is on the left side.
Also when you turn both normal camera & display 45 degrees .. the picture will turn 90 degrees compared to the subject. This can be really distracting and confusing when holding the device with both camera and display in your hands. And that is, I believe, the reason why Xperia (and some other similar device, I don't doubt) uses mirrored image. With that the angles does not add, but subtract .. and it acts just like a mirror.
If you have notebook with front camera, I suggest you experiment with it. Most probably the mirrored picture will not be the default, but there will be option to try it too.
If you still don't get it, take some written text, put it in front of you .. and use Xperia with front camera to read the text on the screen .. the use the second phone.
This thread is hilarious .
it not hilarious yet but it is starting to be.
lol highly amusing thread..
when you take a pic the aspect doesnt change, just where you are in it.
when the x1 is held portrait you fill the aspect, when held in landscape you dont.
this isnt a trick of the x1 its just elementary physics
think about when you take the photo in portrait it fills the screen, in landscape it still fills the screen but you appear to take up less of the space
what happens when you take a pic with keyboard open ?
im tempted to try now but dont want a punch in the ear frok the girl sitting behind me on the bus.. although i would have no objections to having a pic of her on my screen
Post of the year!
LOL this post made me laugh, great stuff.
But really, you look in a mirror and rotate it, why doesnt everythig in the mirror rotate with it?
baffled :/
Priceless.
Well the post still has it's value. Since some phones do not mirror the picture and yes, the picture really rotate (unlike mirror, unlike xperia).
Actually I have seen this for the first time, but then my experience with devices like this is minor.
I have the solution - send your phone to me to sell on ebay

Buttons light question

I found an really good condition atrix to sell for a very cheap price, the only problem is that the home and back buttons, doesnt lit very well like the other settings and search buttons.
In galaxy S, it was just an flex cable light behind the buttons, but i didnt found this piece for atrix. its possible to fix this on atrix or i would need to replace the entire screen?
thanks!
I don't know the answer, but I suggest you go to ifixit.com and search for Atrix. That show how to dissamble an Atrix. That might help.
yeah i found 2 vids on youtube, both makes you believe that the light and the screen are the same piece. i gave up from that atrix and bought an new one
you can adjust the brightness of the buttons independantly of the screen. it is a custom option in CM7 and it is tied in directly to the brightness sensor.
